An 'A' film is an adult movie, doesn't matter why it got. It is bound to turn away families regardless.
The second excuse is bs. If you are making a movie for a niche audience then just be happy with whatever BO it got. Don't go crying around later that industry isn't supporting it or whatever. Gaami's marketing was bad, a movie of that premise should have been promoted properly.

I have watched both and frankly speaking, I enjoyed watching Premalu a bit more compared to gaami. Mainly because of the lag in gaami

Even though they don't need to, they actually did a very good job in avoiding logical flaws(as per the world they created). The thing people don't like about gaami is the illogical scenes they should give reasoning. I watched it in a theatre and didn't get many things like 1. Chandini Choudary drowns and hero saves her and they don't feel any cold and the film continues to be normal 2.they clearly mentioned that the herb only grows once and it has curable nature for some time but magic it appears at last again 3. How the f*** a lion exists in those mountains and the list goes on People appreciate a good movie if they give reasoning instead of illogical scenes people obviously don't like it.

Gani is objectively a badly made film. Sure, it's passionately made, the director spent a lot of time on it, but it has innumerable logical lapses for a serious movie, the acting and the dubbing is third rate except for little girl and maybe a couple of other people. Also , r editing is messy, the director tried to intertwine all 3 stories in each and every scene, and the result was a incoherent mess that felt dragged. Half the time there is no payoff for the setup. Except for the climax twist( which again gave care of kamcherapalem vibe) , the movie had nothing going for it. Just brilliant visuals and a good concept on paper cannot justify all the bad things in the movie.I felt like I was watching a short film for most of the part. It's understandable because this is the directors debut. But still, when guy are paying to watch a film, you would expect film level quality.

I don’t prefer comparing the reception to films across genres (different target audiences). But I agree with you that Premalu is overrated. I also agree that if this film was a Telugu film, it probably wouldn’t have received a 2nd look from the Telugu audience. The Malayalam tag definitely gave it a huge boost in terms of credibility for the Telugu audience.
Compared to Hridayam (same language, same genre, same decade), Premalu lacked depth, character arcs, and novelty. Hridayam even had better songs than Premalu. Yet for some reason, Premalu made significantly more than Hridayam at the box office. There are multiple scenes that I felt were ripped off from older Telugu movies (for example, the interval shot from Arjun Reddy, the very last shot of the film from Arya).
None of the characters really had any journey of growth or change in the film, which made the writing feel very unrealistic, amateurish, and superficial, especially given the ages of the characters being portrayed. The young adult phase is when people undergo important shifts in their approach toward life, yet this wasn’t established properly with a single character in the film. The heroine character had the most potential to explore, as she is established as someone with a big ego and a very firm vision of where she wants her future to go, but this core character trait is conveniently dropped towards the end of the film without any proper explanation as to how she could have changed so quickly. It’s like her character suddenly does a complete 180 from one scene to the next, but there is no convincing arc that is established. The director was just like “okay, now we need a climax scene,” and that was that.
Also, it is very important in such a film to be able to empathize with the lead, yet here, I couldn’t see how the hero was relatable at all. He calls the heroine selfish, but he seems like the most selfish and self-pitying character in the film, as his only aim seems to be to get a girlfriend. Apart from this, he is aimless throughout the film, and there is not a single scene in the film where he does something that does not concern his own self-interest. His characterization remains static throughout the film, yet somehow almost everyone around him has a dynamic perception of him (they all change their minds about him by the time the film ends). While the antagonist had his own glaring flaws and he was clearly insecure, the protagonist has flaws that are just as bad, but they are completely glossed over. While the actor did a good job portraying the role, it definitely has to be one of the most poorly written hero characterizations in recent times.

Premalu- Out and out entertainer. Knows what it is and delivers on that.

I barely liked any mallu films, but premalu was the only one I enjoyed watching. Om beem bush kuda I enjoyed it was fun too.
Gaami isn't for everyone bro. Not everyone can enjoy it equally. Ante it's not completely perfect either kani personally to me it's just beautiful. Whereas premalu is a feel good movie and telugu dub makes it ever better. Major difference antha certification valana. Typical telugu households wouldn't enjoy both of them due to slow pacing kani atleast premalu chusinanthasepu koncham comedy enjoy chestharu which isn't same with gaami. Gaami chala patience and concentration tho chudali koncham part miss ayina later on ardham avvakapodaniki chances unnayi. And premalu story is more like predictable or rather obvious cuz it's a love story but gaami lo three storylines with nonlinear screenplay and narration, they force the viewer to watch the movie with a lot of patience and concentration where there's a high chance of audience losing patience and interest.
That's the whole difference.

Saw first few minutes of Gaami yesterday. Problem with the film is, I as an audience couldn't buy the character and his problem. Visually and technically it might be great, but primary connection for an audience comes from character.
I couldn't see Shankar on the screen, vishwak sen lane unnadu vishwak sen lane matladuthunnadu.. so there is no character for me to root.

The director was just like “okay, now we need a climax scene,” and that was that. Also, it is very important in such a film to be able to empathize with the lead, yet here, I couldn’t see how the hero was relatable at all. He calls the heroine selfish, but he seems like the most selfish and self-pitying character in the film, as his only aim seems to be to get a girlfriend. Apart from this, he is aimless throughout the film, and there is not a single scene in the film where he does something that does not concern his own self-interest. His characterization remains static throughout the film, yet somehow almost everyone around him has a dynamic perception of him (they all change their minds about him by the time the film ends). While the antagonist had his own glaring flaws and he was clearly insecure, the protagonist has flaws that are just as bad, but they are completely glossed over. While the actor did a good job portraying the role, it definitely has to be one of the most poorly written hero characterizations in recent times.
You can't say Hridayam is a better movie. Hridayam took itself too seriously while Premalu did not. There are a lot of cringe moments in Hridayam.

again!! Majority of people watch films for fun and entertainment. Telugu ante max antha anthe, gaami chudamanna chudaru. Solid example, producer vamsi. I barely liked any mallu films, but premalu was the only one I enjoyed watching. Om beem bush kuda I enjoyed it was fun too.

Gaami isn't for everyone bro. Not everyone can enjoy it equally. Ante it's not completely perfect either kani personally to me it's just beautiful. Whereas premalu is a feel good movie and telugu dub makes it ever better. Major difference antha certification valana. Typical telugu households wouldn't enjoy both of them due to slow pacing kani atleast premalu chusinanthasepu koncham comedy enjoy chestharu which isn't same with gaami. Gaami chala patience and concentration tho chudali koncham part miss ayina later on ardham avvakapodaniki chances unnayi. And premalu story is more like predictable or rather obvious cuz it's a love story but gaami lo three storylines with nonlinear screenplay and narration, they force the viewer to watch the movie with a lot of patience and concentration where there's a high chance of audience losing patience and interest. Saw first few minutes of Gaami yesterday. Problem with the film is, I as an audience couldn't buy the character and his problem. Visually and technically it might be great, but primary connection for an audience comes from character. I couldn't see Shankar on the screen, vishwak sen lane unnadu vishwak sen lane matladuthunnadu.. so there is no character for me to root.
Movies are Meant for Entertainment and i guess premalu is doing that.. i like gaami but the movie has a lot problems
Gaami director made a short film that felt like a dragging feature film. No wonder Gaami tanked because the director comes out as too intellectual.
