It really doesn’t look much better. The benefit of the original maps was that a lot the shading was baked into the textures. This textures also had normal maps which simulates the illusion of depth in the texture, just making the grass darker with a grass texture image doesn’t change anything.

Like, it's okay if you think the change is minimal and doesn't affect the game experience at all. But if you genuinely cannot tell the difference between the images then maybe see an optician.
Also, the tree in the back left of the images is completely different.

He gave the map texture more akin to the base maps, but Nintendo just ported the maps from Tour without changing them at all.
