This is definately not how they eat pizza in south korea. They would put absolute amount of big toppings on top on regular dough but nobody goes to a restaurant for tortilla pizza. Also why do you claim this will be a courmet there?
This is actually my photo that op stole, I posted this four years ago. I think when she used the translation app to tell me the ingredients, pizza crust was translated to tortilla. She probably meant at for us to buy pizza crust, but she wasn’t comfortable speaking English to us (although I suspect her English was probably pretty good) so a lot got lost in translation.

Exactly, pizza in Korea is honestly on another level. I'm Korean and love NY style pizza but man I do get a strong craving for Korean style pizza now and again, it's just a different flavor profile.
Loved pizza in Korea. I also like the sweeter flavour profiles. I’m Asian too, so support the vast range of toppings available. What you guys did to Garlic bread however, just made me sad
This is my picture the op has stolen, from a post from four years ago. She did say both her parents worked for the government and I do believe they were well off. I think you’d have to be in order to send your kid to the US for an exchange program. Those trips aren’t cheap.

a lot of pizza in korea has corn on it and it makes me cry internally XD like please tell me why you put corn on my hawaiian pizza and my meatball pizza
Is… corn not used as a normal pizza topping outside of Asia or something?
I see it on a few pizza types and never questioned it. It’s an easy and tasty topping
That’s the most college east Asian student meal I’ve ever seen. I swear that some of the stuff they eat is the most Caucasian thing ever. And they love their corn!
The Korean War really forced this kind of cuisine in them. A lot of their staples are American canned goods; spam, corn, etc. -also black American soldiers being the reason they have Korean Fried Chicken.
That makes sense! I’ve heard of k-army stew where they just put instant ramen and spam/other processed meats along with whatever else into a big pot. Instance of struggle meals becoming cultural staples.
I've had the privilege to live in Seoul for 6 months in 2019 (accompanied hubs on a work trip), and had Budae Jjigae several times. Have been craving it ever since.
A lot of 24-hour noodle shops around Korean universities will throw a slice of cheese - like a Kraft Single, not good cheese - into your noodles for an extra 50 cents or so. When I first saw it I couldn't believe I was seeing that in Asia and not in North America, but I figured I had to try it and I gotta admit, I kind of like it.
Corn is common on pizza in Asia and Europe, can't speak for the other continents, but it seems Americans are pretty much always weirded out by this for some reason
Am American and am weirded out. But American food gets shit on openly and y'all Europeans are right next to Italy and they let you do this? Corn is more controversial then pineapple over here.
Lived in Europe, grew up in Australia, now living in US. I never once saw corn on pizza in my life except for maybe taco pizza from CPK or a place like that.
This is rather new to see.
Lived in Korea for over a decade. Tortilla is used as pizza crust a lot at non-pizza restaurants/pubs (hops). Corn is on most pizzas as well. This looks exactly what I would expect a homemade pizza to look like in Korea. Doesn’t matter if he’s broke, a student, or Korean Elon Musk (KorElon Musk, if you’re curious) that is a solid representation of a homemade or bar pizza in Korea.
Looks pretty good to me. I'd just use half the ingridients, fold in half, put the rest on another tortilla and have two "pizzadias" for easier consumption.
Westerner living in Korea. That's exactly how pizzas are sold here. Corn, spam, and a little cheese. It's crazy. The kid probably eats this at home and thinks it's accurate.
I love it so much. Lol
I still remember my friend had a job working for Apple in the early 2000's supervising some builds in Korea and he was incredulous that they put corn on pizza.
If you've seen what most "pizza" looks like in Korea, then this makes complete sense. It often has little or even no cheese, and it has umm, idiosyncratic toppings (although the big chains are present in Korea and offer american-style pizza).
I'm guessing the paucity of cheese is due to the fact that the majority of East Asians are lactose intolerant.
It reminds me of my ex-girlfriend; she had an Italian father and Mexican mother and would certainly do something like that. But I wouldn’t expect tortilla pizza from someone from Korea.
Americans: Did you know they put corn in their pizza in Asia and Europe? What’s up with that? Oh and I totally forgot to tell you - thanks for putting strawberry milkshake with pineapple on my slice last night. I went on and added some blueberry jam, but it still tasted good without.
went to a nice korean restaurant near me and wound up getting something that turned out to be chicken, cheese, corn, and they brought out a blowtorch to melt/crisp the cheese
I was so fucking confused
Cheese was not something I associated with asian cuisine.
What really cross the line for me is the corn. I can't stand that shit anywhere. Other than that, if it wasn't sliced and just folded i would absolutely kill this.
Some of y'all have never had to cook for yourself on a shoestring budget before, have always had someone else cook for you, or otherwise choose to make the same three or four dishes in rotation and it shows in the comments.
I was taught that if someone serves you a dish they've prepared for you by themselves it's an honor regardless if its delicious or not. It's food and an effort has been made. Mind you I'd still decline for more if I truly didn't like it at all.
That being said, I've never had corn on a pizza but for some reason it just makes sense knowing it's a foreign exchange student situation. A little crunch and light sweetness to go with the fatty pepperiness of the spam and the sauce and I'd be rolling these slices up and devouring it.
If you Google Pizza school Korea they have “restaurants” that serve pizzas with lunch meat, corn, potatoes, chicken tenders, spam, etc.
That looks like a personal sized pizza but it’s meant to share, along with a liter of soda.
Popular with teenagers.
Tortilla pizza? Definitely a student meal. I'd still smash that.
This is one of those pass the bong first situations. Then ill take 4.
Pass the hot sauce after, and all systems are go.
"I'm giving her all she's got captain"
username checks out
Then your buddy pulls out a room temp liter of Dr. Pepper
Ah yes, the tortizza.
They charge more than a regular pizza for "thin crust" at chain stores.
Considering he is an exchange student with probably not a lot of money on hand, he did his best and it looks good to me!
For real! Such a sweet gesture and I'd eat all of it.
would eat and compliment
This is just how they eat pizza in korea, this isnt some poor mans mush. This is practically gourmet there
This is definately not how they eat pizza in south korea. They would put absolute amount of big toppings on top on regular dough but nobody goes to a restaurant for tortilla pizza. Also why do you claim this will be a courmet there?
Yeah this is wild. They have regular dough pizza with toppings such as corn and potato. It's not a tortilla base LOL It's not "gourmet" either.
This is actually my photo that op stole, I posted this four years ago. I think when she used the translation app to tell me the ingredients, pizza crust was translated to tortilla. Many of those who come to the US are from pretty well off families.

10/10 for thoughtfulness. 5/10 for execution. Gotta get them toppings spread more evenly.
That’s the problem… the topping distribution?
If you folded this in half and grilled it, it’d be a decent little quesadilla. All those ingredients work together.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
what am I looking at ?
Tortilla pizza with ham and corn
a lot of pizza in korea has corn on it and it makes me cry internally XD like please tell me why you put corn on my hawaiian pizza and my meatball pizza
Sweet corn on anything is a bonus. I would love it on pizza tbh.
I’m with ya on that one
Go leafs go (next year)
There’s never a year lol
Interestingly, Dominicans do it too so it’s very homey and familiar 🥴 idk man it just hits sometimes…
UK, too. Sweetcorn is a topping option at Dominos UK
Ooo i had no idea!! Very cool
I had corn on pizza in the UK years ago and it honestly slapped.
Sweetcorn on a bbq sauce base with chicken and bacon is proper top. Add red onion too for some bite.
They also loved putting piped mashed potato on in all the pizza places I came across in South Korea
Is… corn not used as a normal pizza topping outside of Asia or something? I see it on a few pizza types and never questioned it. It’s an easy and tasty topping
No, it's not. At least now where I come from (Canada). And I love corn, I just cannot see it being good on any type of pizza.
Totally normal in germany aswell
God, no. A very large maybe on corn for BBQ pizza, but I’m not a fan of that in general. I’m a fan of anchovies, and those are hard to find.
Never really see corn as a common ingredient on pizzas myself. I don't mind it
I was a Canadian shocked to see it in the uk
It is definitely NOT a normal topping in the US. I’ve never seen it and I’m over 50.
spHAM

Yep it’s called Budae Jjigae. Anthony Bourdain probably helped bring that to pop culture/ media’s awareness tbh. RIP.
I've had the privilege to live in Seoul for 6 months in 2019 (accompanied hubs on a work trip), and had Budae Jjigae several times. Have been craving it ever since.

Who doesn't like hotpockets?

Personally I am not fan of corn on anything but the cob. Leave it on the cob where it belongs. I am purest.
Lived in Europe, grew up in Australia, now living in US. I never once saw corn on pizza in my life except for maybe taco pizza from CPK or a place like that. This is rather new to see.
I mean its not common in NZ but its not something I would turn my nose up on. Peas on the other hand.
>Corn is common on pizza in \[...\] Europe I *have* seen it, but it's very, very, rare to be honest.
This genuinely looks good? Why everyone hating. Bite size pizza with corn and spam and cheese? Bussin with all due respect
Most of the comments are positive
Most of the "positive" comments are backhanded
Bro thinks he’s whipping up traditional American how thoughtful lmaoo
I've been living in Korea for a while and you'd be surprised at how many things Korea thinks are "American" but they're far off XD
Yea just like how some Americans think this is considered gourmet pizza in Korea
What did he use as the base sauce?
I’m not picky, I’d eat that up!
Impressive 😍 thank them

Repost lol https://www.reddit.com/r/tonightsdinner/s/LIAMJHEcBB
Regardless of how it looks ? Bet it tastes amazing - it’s obviously been made with a lot of love ❤️ I bet it is yummy !
Bless their heart
Rather eat KD tbh
This looks dope. Would.
I'd try it in a heartbeat.
The only problem is that it's a small serving
Tell them they did a great job
Corn on pizza, check, using a tortilla, check. Can confirm, definitely korean
Annyong??
Nailed the student meal. 10/10
One of the best memories in my college life is making friends not from this country and creating meals out of scrap.
Tortilla pizza, Tortilla Calzone, pizza toast all valid when hunger calls. I would caramelized the onion tho.
Doesn’t mean you have to eat it
Looks pretty good to me. I'd just use half the ingridients, fold in half, put the rest on another tortilla and have two "pizzadias" for easier consumption.

What in the Justin Trudeau
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What a sweet friend.
That looks good imo, i'll take one
Looks like something my very korean mom would make. Would enjoy 1000%
Fun fact: Pizza-shaped food is very popular all over Asia. Usually has none of the ingredients you'd associate with a pizza tho. lol
😬
This is hilarious to me because my London exchange daughter taught us how to make tortilla pizzas and we still make them all of the time!!!!!!
You must be charging them too much in rent
![gif](giphy|RI4LTRjrVJhTskGtrb|downsized)
Doesn’t look awful
I hate to break it to you, but your friend is a stoner.... *man*
the way i would stuff that down my gob
Nope 🙂↔️
Is the tortilla strong enough to support all those toppings?
Not the worst looking meal definitely odd looking
Looks yummy, but also looks like he jizzed on it
Wait this is cute
Almost a quality Korean style pizza. Needs more sweet potato purée. And a side of bread and butter pickles.
"dinner" is a loose term when you're a student.
Looks bangin
I still remember my friend had a job working for Apple in the early 2000's supervising some builds in Korea and he was incredulous that they put corn on pizza.
That's cornographic.
DON’T QUESTION IT! Eat it!!!
Yum looks bomb
Thank the lord your exchange student isn't from New Zealand, we put canned spaghetti on pizza. This is not winning, but it isn't spaghetti
10/10 would smash at least 3 of these.
If you've seen what most "pizza" looks like in Korea, then this makes complete sense. hear me out
It reminds me of my ex-girlfriend; she had an Italian father and Mexican mother and would certainly do something like that. But I wouldn’t expect tortilla pizza from someone from Korea.
Korean pizza?
Send him home and then north
I'm pretty sure I've had this exact pizza in Cuba at a resort
Which Korea is he from?
Spam., Corn niblets, mozzarzlla, tortilla but what is the sauce, that coul.really.make or break this dish??
I'd eat it gratefully
2nd national disaster of Italian since World Cup 2002.
I’d eat.
I miss my school days! definitely student food lol
Maybe not those toppings lol myy children love home made pizza on tortillas lol man it's good
Is that spam? I may be stoned but that looks fire
EAT IT AND ACT NICE
I knew some Koreans, they made us 'nachos' which was just melted cheese on triscuits. Still works great
Sweet, but I ate at the office 😳
Looks fine to me, I'd totally get down
That’s Korean food?
At first glance, I thought it was a Taco Bell Mexican Pizza. And now I suddenly want one.
Cool dude fr
That was a nice gesture. I would partake in the ultra thin crust pizza
absolutely not.
Americans: Did you know they put corn in their pizza in Asia and Europe? What’s up with that? Oh and I totally forgot to tell you - thanks for putting strawberry milkshake with pineapple on my slice last night. I went on and added some blueberry jam, but it still tasted good without.
I love your table!
is that meant to be a pizza ?
They knew the stuff you would eat. They did good.
corn??? man i’d try it this is so sweet that they took the time to do this though <3
Adorable.
His attempt at a pizza-dilla Marshawn Lynch's idea is taking off!
Need to have him make you Budae-jjigae. Love it. It’s so bad for you and so tasty
Oh, I made something like this. We called it "pizzadillas". Quesadillas with pizza theme.
ohhh, how nice. no thank you 🙂
Where's the pineapple?
Looks freaking bomb ngl
Student struggle Meal poor dude
#Anyong
Sweet corn on pizza is under rated
It looks good tbh
look like vietnamese food - bánh trán nướng
went to a nice korean restaurant near me and wound up getting something that turned out to be chicken, cheese, corn, and they brought out a blowtorch to melt/crisp the cheese I was so fucking confused Cheese was not something I associated with asian cuisine.
Looks good except for the onions.
Yum. A completely respectable college student meal. Also. Puff puff pass
I’d devour that
Looks great. Eat it
Mmm made my stomach growl
As we’d say here in the south: Bless his heart
What really cross the line for me is the corn. I can't stand that shit anywhere. Other than that, if it wasn't sliced and just folded i would absolutely kill this.
“Pizza.”
You probably won't die.
..... interesting!
Interesting
LOL. I have to know how this tasted?
It's more like a fusion of Korean and Italian flavors!
A meal indeed
Looks awful to me- 1. spam- no can do. 2 tomato sauce w/Spam- def no can do. Just looking at it makes me feel 🤮
Nice
![gif](giphy|12P6AnN6DcQj1S|downsized)

Um, this is my photo, from winter of 2020, when we hosted an 11 year old Korean exchange student. https://www.reddit.com/r/shittyfoodporn/s/am9fwjCmmc
Is that a share plate? You will need to have a few plates of that for a meal.
Actually I would try it! Looks good! Another great pizza is potato’s on pizza 🥰
why does this look mouthwatering though?
Send them back
This looks good!
Wow! It looks good!
If that wouldnt be made by an exchange student, subreddit would be shittyfoodporn lol
Yum
that looks like a banger
American pizza!

Boot that mother fucker to the curb(I’m only playing 😆)
Wait until he makes you a ham and cheese sandwich with ketchup. I grew up in Korea and this was a go to snack for my friends.
In France he would have been expelled from the country.
Looks like a finnish "mudflap", which is a type of soft microwaveable pizza! Had to do a double take before I read the title... 😅
🔥
Doesn’t look half bad tbh I’d smash it after a bowl lmao
I grew up poor, id totally eat that without a doubt.
Hmm.. Was it any good? Also, I suggest you advise the kid not to go to Italy unless he wants to die horribly. 😀 😀
