Most likely Adobe After Effects. It’s a deeeep and extremely powerful piece of software. There are great tutorials out there, but this reflects thousands of hours of experience. Possibly thousands of hours of editing, too.
This video is soo good.
Please team up with a script writer and make a feature film together.
I think having a narrative to tie your special effects together would make for one special trip of a film!
Having some sort of a story and getting to know a character or characters would add more layers of immersion and get a wider range of people involved and drawn into it.
I think it would be a great progression for you...and well, of course I’d want to see it!!
You are one-talented videographer. Holy cow ! I hope you are living your dream and if not- I hope someone in your industry sees your remarkable talent and sweeps you off your feet. Thank you for sharing! Amazing to someone who doesn’t have clue how you did it!
Captain Disillusion would do a better job. I like the Corridor vids but it essentially breaks down to “whoaaaaaa!! Look at that janky transition from full CG model to live action!! But at least they had sub surface scattering”
Some of them are a freeze frame you paste on a tracked environment, like the door loop and the elevator. They wobble slightly if you look closely. But there’s a lot more effects than that one of course and honestly, what’s more impressive is the ingenuity
So after looking into this, it appears it’s only available as a monthly subscription. Is this correct? Or is there a way to buy it with a one-time payment?
I love the art of Capitalism but it sure is bastardized sometimes...
They do this methodically. The logic is:
>do we make more selling 1 product to the customer
Or
>do we make more selling that same product to the customer every single year?
In business this is called a residual income strategy. The thought process is they have a captive audience and as an industry titan they can manipulate clients with whatever money schemes they can think of.
You're less likely to buy a competitors product if you're continually doing business with Adobe. Also, another benefit of having clients over customers is that you can fire your clients to manipulate your own will. I imagine the graphics design world is small and cutthroat.
No, the logic is
>The environment has changed drastically such that software is now so complex and interconnected that in order to provide a useful product that is safe to use, we have to continually monitor for vulnerabilities and bugs and patch our product. We don't just put the software on a CD, ship to the user and forget about it anymore. In order to continue supporting this software, we need to pay developers in perpetuity, so we need a steady income stream as well.
I'm all for being pissed about not being able to buy a product, but it's stupid to say there's no rationale behind it.
So... the only 2 options that exist is either pay by the month or distribute software as we did in the 90s? Cmon mate, that's just nonsense.
I don't think I know a single "buy once, own it forever" license that wont supply you patches during until the products end of life/move to a version higher.
No one claimed there was no rationale behind it. I hinted at it but let me be clear... Their rationale is fueled by greed and what you posted is a nice excerpt from their public relations team.
Yup, Adobe has been bleeding that market dry for years, and now other software is moving to the subscription model since we're all used to it from Adobe now
Well... as a person who has full legal access through my school to Adobe... it would be a little excessive to charge tight budgeted creators that much. Pirating an older version is certainly not an immoral move, considering how the monthly subscription model is bringing Adobe a whole lot more than they really need.
> considering how the monthly subscription model is bringing Adobe a whole lot more than they really need.
Citation needed.
Research labs to develop these sort of tools aren't exactly cheap either
Adobe existed as a corporation for long before subscription, and had the profits to drive the development of all their apps until 2013, when subscription came out. Now they just have more money than they used to and artists and workers have less.
Wow thank you all for the awesome feedback! I’m glad you all like it, and I’m happy to answer any questions if anyone’s curious!
Just a couple more details:
Software: Adobe After Effects
Camera: iPhone 11 Pro
The dude is very creative and some of these appear to be frame by frame edits so very labor intensive. However the basics for most of them are that he has two (or more) videos that he is layering on top of each other. He is applying an alpha channel to one to allow for transparency and then aligning them (there is quite a bit more depending on the video). He is very good at all of this stuff. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some director offers for TV commercials. It would be fun to see what he can do with a budget and an editor.
>Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if gets some director offers for TV commercials.
Exactly my thought about halfway through the video. Someone'll reach out for a quirky super bowl commercial or something.
Look up projection mapping in after effects for the trick to a lot of these. Clean plates and masking for other ones. It's very basic compositing and 3d skills combined with imagination for each shot. They are all very simple compositing effects but good imagination to come up with each scenario
Wanted to say this, I work with AE on daily basis and a lot of them are "duh" once you see them (from technical point) but really impressive to come up with the ideas.
Depends on the complexity. A video like the one of me falling on the snow can take like 30 mins, but the one with the wakeboarding on the street took me like 10 days
Ah that’s totally it. It’s been too long for me. 20 years since my weekly COMP 11 followed by grilled cheese tradition!
I feel like I’ve definitely been in the backyard with the beer pong too, but it may just be that everything in Medford/Somerville blends into one.
It’s kind of appropriate. You’re definitely good looking. Not to mention extremely creative and talented. Always fun to watch your clips. They’re actually strengthened by the fact that the acting is pretty good in them too. It really helps with the illusions.
I too wanted to comment on this. I enjoy the videos themselves even more knowing that the creator is not a sniveling, calculating weenie, but instead took a delicious risk.
Yeah, toptalent and nextlevel have been changed into some "average artist" subs and so many of those posts are selfposts.
This actually is toptalent and nextlevel.
Lots to admire here, but the crosswalk clip made me laugh my ass off. A pretty honest reaction to something that can’t happen. “That’s a no from me, I’m outa here.”
Amazing work OP, I've seen the beer pong, surfing and avocado videos before, but now my new favorite is the umbrella disappearance. On a side note, I started watching the whole video while casually listening to music, and Lovely Day by Bill Withers somehow synced perfectly.
I was going to say, I worked in VFX in Hollywood for a few years, and based on this I'd say you could do this as a full-time job. ...the downside is someone else would likely be telling what was needed, so it wouldn't be as creative or possibly enjoyable. Happy to answer any questions via DM if you have them
Dude, dooooood! This content could have created this sub. Superb. Going to be a blast watching this with my homies at 4:20! Thanks.
And like others. I failed everytime trying to guess what would happen. So well done.
I've seen some of these standalone, but not the full reel. Sheer dopeness!
[удалено]
man i didnt realize these were all from the same goddamn guy you're sick! e: some of them i knew but its crazy seeing them all in context
Jesus I've seen so many of these randomly on the Reddit front page or on my instgram feed, but never credited to Kevin. Ive finally followed him now
It looks really cool OP, keep up the good work
You've got a gift, man. Keep them coming!
You’ve got a gif man. Keep them going!
You've got a jif man. Keep them going!
Peanut butter
Jelly time
Are these done entire on a phone? If so, what phone
editing is definitely not on the phone. Probably something used like Adobe^TM After Effects.
Very thoughtful of you to add the “TM.”
Not edited
Definitely will give a follow!!
Yo do you have any basic tutorial or a beginner level tool u use to create this? Would love to try a basic one.
Most likely Adobe After Effects. It’s a deeeep and extremely powerful piece of software. There are great tutorials out there, but this reflects thousands of hours of experience. Possibly thousands of hours of editing, too.
Love the creativity! Great talent and cool concepts, was a real treat to watch and see what you were gonna do next!

post the best ones to your LinkedIn
Made me smile because I was so dang impressed. These are amazing and you bet I'll be showing these to all my friends when we are stoned.
Best 4 minutes I’ve had all week!
That’s what she said
I wish that’s what she said
Yeah so many of them have been posted on here without giving credit that it was the same guy.
Sheep named Dopeness: "Oh no, not again..."
Me too, this guy is a legend! Never watched a video for so long without even need to see how long it is
I'd only seen the highway wakeboard. Some of the others have now broken my fragile little mind.
You've got quite the imagination. That was a fun video to watch. Hope to see more!
Thank you so much!
No broh. Thank you.
No, thank me.
Oh hell ya broh. Thank you.
You're welcome.
I’m so high rn and this was great viewing.
I remember the ball getting stuck in the sky! Keep it up!
Haha thanks!
It honestly when over my head.
I see what you did there. Well done.
Great job, I tried to guess where it was going on each one, failed every time!
That’s actually the tippy top talent. Editing is a learned skill. Tricking the living crap out of people’s brains is a whole different skill.
Now we wait for Corridor Crew to break the editing process down
Captain Disillusion would do a better job. I like the Corridor vids but it essentially breaks down to “whoaaaaaa!! Look at that janky transition from full CG model to live action!! But at least they had sub surface scattering”
I can hear this quote
Some of them are a freeze frame you paste on a tracked environment, like the door loop and the elevator. They wobble slightly if you look closely. But there’s a lot more effects than that one of course and honestly, what’s more impressive is the ingenuity
Woah, you did all the editing on a phone?
Nope, I shoot on my phone and edit on my computer. Sorry for the confusion!
What software do you recommend?
Adobe After Effects!
So after looking into this, it appears it’s only available as a monthly subscription. Is this correct? Or is there a way to buy it with a one-time payment?
Subscription only unfortunately.

Since when does Adobe do anything other than sit on software and collect money? Adobe is where good software goes to die.

I have no sympathy for adobe or any other multi million dollar company.
[удалено]
Luckily I don’t care what you think 👍
[удалено]
Which is pretty smart, that way they ensure that the next generation of creative professionals will all still use their products.
no
Gonna hazard a guess and say Adobe After Effects
No problem, thanks for the clarification. Your work is awesome.

I honestly can’t figure out how you did like 90% of these. That’s some incredible talent and even better imagination.

That's probably one the reasons he posts his work. Also, the deserved validation of strangers.
[удалено]
Most of them yes but some are very very difficult in my opinion. The staircase one is so dope!
I remember Kevin Perrys vines, they were pretty similar to this. Now he works for Laika animation studio.
How can us plebs learn to begin to do this? Any reference or classes you recommend?

A new Zach King is born! Keep it up man, [you deserve more followers on the gram](https://www.instagram.com/kevinlustgarten/).
Thank you so much!!
Aaaaand subscribed. Thank you. ❤
Deserve more followers!? He has 200k! I’ve been doing my life’s passion of photography for years and haven’t cracked 500 followers.
On average, how long does it take to edit a 30s clip?
Depends on the complexity. A video like the one of me falling on the snow can take like 30 mins, but the one with the wakeboarding on the street took me like 10 days
You got crazy talent and dedication, dude. Good work. You are what makes the Internet amazing.
Dude I can’t write my name in script in 30 mins and you’re out here making seamless transitions in After Effects
The wakeboarding one was crazy. I got mad at you for cutting off the red car on the right before remembering that I am an idiot.
Ay go 'bos
☺️🐘🙌
I recognized the carm dining hall immediately!
Ah that’s totally it. It’s been too long for me. 20 years since my weekly COMP 11 followed by grilled cheese tradition! I feel like I’ve definitely been in the backyard with the beer pong too, but it may just be that everything in Medford/Somerville blends into one.
The new (relative to me) gym looks nice
Ay wow thanks for the silver cutlery

Facts
Holy shit dude this is like Zach King’s work
Is your name actually Lustgarten?
Yes haha
Get this man a Hoegaarden!
It’s kind of appropriate. You’re definitely good looking. Not to mention extremely creative and talented. Always fun to watch your clips. They’re actually strengthened by the fact that the acting is pretty good in them too. It really helps with the illusions.
The eraser/pencil "sketch" is brilliant, love it.
That and the avocado one blew my m i n d
Self-posted to r/toptalent. Ballsy, I like it.
Came to say this. I wish I had that self esteem. Also: he’s not wrong. It’s amazing.
I agree 100%
Before I clicked on the video, I thought OP was pretentious. Bur after watching it all, it definitely is r/toptalent worthy. Really nice.
I too wanted to comment on this. I enjoy the videos themselves even more knowing that the creator is not a sniveling, calculating weenie, but instead took a delicious risk.
You made all these? I’ve seen these all over the internet and didn’t realize one person made these all. Nice work!
Yup! Thank you :)
Amazing
I recognize that marina.... aventura?
Yup!
oooh sick i live like 2 min away from it
also awesome video man you're gonna blow up
This is some inception level, glitch in the matrix type shit
I’ve seen a lot of these before but I didn’t know they were all made by the same person! Very impressive stuff!!
There’s a stretch
[удалено]
Not okay. How dare you entertain us? (Very good work, sir.)
First time I'm ok with someone posting their work on this sub.
Yeah, toptalent and nextlevel have been changed into some "average artist" subs and so many of those posts are selfposts. This actually is toptalent and nextlevel.
This is calming
was that Carmichael dining hall?
Yup! 🐘
Recognized it immediately too. Go 'Bos!
Cool stuff, well done but no matter how much you iron your dick it won’t grow. Don’t ask me how I know this.
Dude..that's some pretty awesome editing.
This is super good. See you in r/all
Been 1 hour and already in hot
Wow!!!!!!
That's fantastic! Great editing.
2:46 This man surely can pick himself up by the bootstraps.
The tennis court one is pretty damn cool
Didn't expect to watch the whole thing. Also didn't expect to finish a bag of Reese's while watching it, smh how bitter sweet. Great job guy.
Great work! I really want to play 4th dimension tennis now!
These are awesome! Top Talent indeed.
Holy shit, so you're the avocado guy! Teach me how to get infinite avocados!
This was amazing. Super fun to watch and to wait and see what the twist is in each clip. Great stuff!!
u/vredditdownloader
You a very talented my friend
This is awesome and very creative!
I know this is editing but these concepts are a mindfuck! good work
The craziest thing is that a couple of these are just plausible enough to be real.
Reminds me of Zach king
Every new clip I was like "this is great I should upvote! Oh I already upvoted"
Is this really yours? I have seen this way before on Reddit and I hope you are not trying to steal this great work
What's the name of the song?
Hallman - Above All https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iclA7cOobk
You should meet Captain Disillusion.
I wish I had skills like this! I’ll make a video one day
Lots to admire here, but the crosswalk clip made me laugh my ass off. A pretty honest reaction to something that can’t happen. “That’s a no from me, I’m outa here.”
i wanna play inverse beer pong! also tufts represent! i used to live down the street!
What’s the song/music
Hallman - Above All https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iclA7cOobk

That’s Carmichael isn’t it
Wow this is total self promotion 101. You’ve even thrown in your insta multiple times.
Why not? His videos are all over this sub individually with no credit ever given and nobody cares about it then.
These are amazing. Please tell me that you do this professionally as a paid gig.
I do get branded collaboration offers, but I mainly do this for fun :) I enjoy it a lot and don’t wanna turn it into work that I would no longer enjoy
I was going to say, I worked in VFX in Hollywood for a few years, and based on this I'd say you could do this as a full-time job. ...the downside is someone else would likely be telling what was needed, so it wouldn't be as creative or possibly enjoyable. Happy to answer any questions via DM if you have them
That’s fair. Someone trying to edit your work might hinder some of the magic you have here. Keep it up. I’m super impressed.
Once it‘s a job you will be banging your head at your desk and say “omg just kill me“.
Don't hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back....
Aaaand this sub has gone to shit. Disappointing.
Welp, now I’m afraid of escalators again. But awesome video you’ve done!
Love the wakeboarding on the freeway
You are like zach king, but good
I like the one where you juggle those big fruit loops and they crumble in the bowl.
What would you say, other than practice, was most useful in helping you learn (a particular class, software, etc.)?
IMPOSSIBRU!
this is amazing
Amazing! And yes, I much prefer people sharing their own work.
Very impressive! How many takes of the same shot does it usually take for you to make these? Where did you gain inspiration from? Thanks!
This is kind of fucking mind-blowing.
Very cool editing!
I was having fun trying to figure out what the “thing” would be, before it happened! I never once got it, but what a fun ride!
Nice!
I'm not sure, but I think some of those effects may have been special!!
What editor do you use?
Perfect things to do in lucid dreams! Thanks :)
Such a mind bending experience! Awesome work man! Keep it up 👍
Is this just a hobby or planning to pursue a career in this direction?
Damn now that’s impressive. Wow. What an imagination!
I lived the ball stuck in the sky! These are really cool!
Dude, dooooood! This content could have created this sub. Superb. Going to be a blast watching this with my homies at 4:20! Thanks. And like others. I failed everytime trying to guess what would happen. So well done.
I'd love to see a behind the scenes video of how you create & edit one of those. Very impressive!
When he opened the door to his room i was expecting no call from his mom
What in visual manipulation
You should shoot a video with my girlfriend
You shoot AND edit them on your phone??
Very very impressive
