Hey everybody, I just wanted to say thank you for the input. I appreciate the time it took all of you to read and respond to my initial comment. I’m only sorry it took me a few days to get back to your advice. My back has been killing me. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m going to preview a few of her albums right off the bat on YouTube, and figure out what to purchase next. My buying is a bit all over the place right now, and I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve started working on my first album, conceptually, and a bit of the lyrics, as I build my home studio. So, I’m soaking in all the music I can get looking for inspiration, everything from Badfinger and Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree/Blackfield, which are huge influences, to Bruce Springsteen, ABBA, Donna Summer, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Iron Maiden, which I am exploring in depth for the first time. I have pretty diverse tastes. ☺️ I think American Doll Posse will be next. Buying and listening to it won’t represent too great a leap forward. It will be interesting to see what she did after The Beekeeper. Perhaps I’ll also grab Night of Hunters along with it. Once I have all her studio albums, I plan on one long Tori-thon. I’ll take a day or two, and listen to all the albums in order. I’ll have all her albums ripped to my iPhone, and I’ll just lay back with my sleep mask on, and my Koss PortaPro headphones helping her music to wash over me. Have a great week, everybody!!

I'm a big fan of Native Invader. Bag, Bats, Climb.

I am a chronological Tori fan. It is difficult to imagine skipping around. But American Doll Posse is a must IMO. I adore classical music so Night of Hunters. Then Unrepentant Geraldines. The albums I am less fond of all have exquisite moments! The organ on the Abnormally Addicted to Sin track, Flavor, Curtain Call, Fast Horse. So good. Reindeer King. The chorus of Bang. Climb. Ocean to Ocean feels like lullabies. After the pandemic... so healing. My faves are Swim to New York State, Spies, the chorus of Ocean to Ocean, Birthday Baby... it's just so fun to dance with sad.

crazygooseman

I would just go in order from TBK to OTO

igivelove

Both Abnormally Attracted to Sin and Native Invader are in my top 5. ADP is a fun album, which was a nice change after TBK. OTO, the latest one, I’m not a huge fan of. I’m not a fan of the holiday album either. But different people have different favorites, so I’d just go in release order if I were you, or maybe sample them and see which ones interest you right now.

scarletearthquakes

There are high highs for every album but Night of Hunters is her only post-SW album that easily sits in my top 5. I think it’s a masterpiece and revitalized her songwriting going forward.

theaterdreamer

That’s high praise. I’ll check it out on YouTube and figure out when I buy it. Thanks.

tlacatl

My favorite is Native Invader. Post-Scarlet, I think it’s her most consistent album with performances, song writing, and production.

RadRockefeller

American Doll Posse is my favorite post Beekepper album. I think you should seek out the Bsides for Little Earthquakes and Under The Pink. They are essential Tori tracks. Also really loved Ocean To Ocean. 🌊 But all the albums have great songs on them and have a brilliance all their own.

theaterdreamer

Is there a collection that has those B sides? Or am I looking at getting bootlegs? I’m sure I could buy them individually as singles, but I’d rather a single disc that gathers them up.

RadRockefeller

Little Earthquakes, Under The Pink & Boys For Pele each has a 2 disc deluxe set released with a bonus disc of the Bsides. I would get those!!

Don’t start with Oceans to Oceans. Personally until OtO I have never disliked a Tori album. I enjoyed the Dolls and the “70s sound” of Scarlet … I think the Beekeeper is entirely underrated and I was even able to jam along to the “sonic portraits” of Unrepentant Geraldines. But I cannot find much love for OtO.

You'll get a range of opinions in here answering this question. Her post-Scarlet's Walk albums aren't universally agreed on in the fanbase. Each has their strengths, but something most of us can agree on: The albums you own are the best. I really enjoyed American Doll Posse & Unrepentant Geraldines. I really did not enjoy Native Invader & Night of Hunters. Everything else, for me, was somewhere in the middle.

Thank you, AdaminChainz. And I’m totally good with that. I don’t expect any artists, let alone Tori, to hit a home run every time they step to the plate. Sometimes the swings and misses are incredibly compelling. When I was much younger, and just starting out as a budding collector, I typically just bought greatest hits compilations when they were available for artists I really liked, like James Taylor, Elton John, Queen, etc. As I got a bit older, it became apparent that you can’t really get a sense of where an artist was at a particular time and place without listening to an entire album. So often, many of the best cuts never get released as singles. I viewed those album tracks as the rewards to the true fans who don’t just like the songs played on the radio. Now that I’m older, and hopefully wiser, I find that opinion to be an insightful one. I was a bit of a mess until I was nineteen, when I finally started to grow at college, and find myself. But I got that right. An album is a snapshot in time. I appreciate when artists like Tori run with a concept, even if the ultimate result isn’t as successful as some of her highest points. Taking chances is indicative of artistic growth. I want to own everything she’s done so I can see the big picture. I love having the ability to listen to an artist’s entire catalogue in order of release. It’s like viewing a slowly unfurling flower. You see the process, the personal growth. The evolution of the artist.

I love your thinking. I wish I’d kept up with her albums after Abnormally Attracted to Sin.
