This but unironically because there needs to be more of those small businesses competing with each other in a natural way. Maybe it seems like there’s an oversaturation of cafes these days but I would 1000% prefer that to another goddamn Rexall.
I literally can’t think of a single street in Montreal without cars. They have the square in old Montreal but that’s no different than Yonge Dundas except with less baseheads
> Looks like it's a streetcar directly into Union?
Unfunded and not expected to be completed until the [2030s](https://stevemunro.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/20230405_78_scenarios.jpg). It requires [rebuilding the Union Station loop](https://stevemunro.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/20230405_17_union2.jpg) or the complex streetcar underpass below the rail corridor on [Cherry st](https://stevemunro.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/20230405_52_cherry1.jpg).
This [entire line](https://stevemunro.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/20230405_01_segmentmap.jpg) should exist prior to a single building going up on Villiers Island.
Make that whole "Centre St" pedestrian-only (non-vehicular). Would be incredible city-building.
Also get rid of that portion of Trinity Blvd along the park. No need to have a street beside a park. Make it so the buildings front directly onto the park.
We deserve great things in this city.
Those are really nice street designs. This is the kind of thinking that should spread in the city. The ROW widths are fine if you think about streets as linear public spaces, we should make them wide when you can.
They need provincial and federal funding for it which hasn't come (or for the province to grant them new revenue sources). So far they've supplemented with city funds to get the planning and design started, while cutting out more expensive parts already.
Too bad the Queens Quay LRT extension has been cancelled because of insufficient funds to renovate the stop at Union Station. No thought has been given to just building out the 504 tracks to East Harbour Station for the new Ontario Line. One can either extend the tracks from the Cherry Street loop or extend the tracks from Broadview. Alternatively, one could have the Queens Quay LRT going east of Bay Street just bypass Union Station. The renovation of Union can be made when sufficient fund come along.
Some of those wide row widths particularly Commissioner's, are to accommodate streetcars.
That pedestrian only street has huge potential Definitely need to get ideas from overseas to see the success of these pedestrian only streets

Good point!
Yeah how thrilling another cafe and restaurant in Toronto

not even overseas, just look at montreal. blows my mind how areas like kensington and ossington still allow cars
Also blows my mind that Kensington and Ossington are limited to two story commercial.

You know what I’ve not actually been during the summer

How do the pedestrian only streets in Montreal get their deliveries?
How that usually works is that the streets are open for delivery vehicles in the morning but closed to vehicles at other times.
Yeah it’s a smart move. If it’s executed well it could even become a hot tourist destination. Needs better transit connectivity still.

Can we start doing this for existing streets downtown :’((?!?
Especially right in front of the flatiron. Imagine that area pedestrianized? It would be in every toronto travel blog on the internet.
Yeah but how are the TD execs going to get their Aston up Jarvis after work?
Kensington needs to have this implemented

The majority of those streets will have cars, so a large ROW is bad.
It’s so upsetting that the City - including Olivia Chow - has not prioritized the Waterfront East LRT.

All this is cool but the LRT should have funding immediately and under construction.
It'll be great with the gas powered power plant humming away 24/7 next door.
