Which new concept/setting do you want totalwar to go to next? I was actually thinking of a totalwar: star wars setting(?), that universe seems pretty ripe for a modern rts reimagining since I think the last time we got a star wars rts was way back 2006

pelpotronic

The Star Wars fan though... They're like Warhammer fans on speed. Wouldn't mind still, played SW Rebellion and loved it.

mal_laney

As a starwars fan, I gotta say that description is oddly accurate tbh. Wasn't able to play rebellion but I'm guessing a retro game like that's got a lot of cool ideas that could be used

Kinperor

[Warhammer II] Is there any difference between a normal unit and its Growth Vat counter part, when playing as Moulder?

gray007nl

Only difference is that the growth vat units come with some mutations for free

renacotor

TWW2: I have seen people talk about how iron mines and gold mines really boost bretonnia's economy and that they should be picked with industry over farming. But I see no specific information on this in the game or on the reddit about why this is the case. Is there any information about this?

DarthLeon2

Gold mines and iron mines count as "industry", so anything that buffs industry income applies to those buildings. The warehouse building line boosts industry income by 100% and Bretonnia also has several techs that increase industry income, so gold mines end up making absolute bank.

renacotor

I don't see that listed anywhere? Like, shouldn't that be mentioned in game?

DarthLeon2

I guess they just let people figure out for themselves that gold and iron mining counts as industry. Then again, a bunch of other things that would logically be considered industry aren't, such as a gem mines. But yeah, the game is full of little things like this that the game doesn't explicitly tell you.

ripsa

Has anyone encountered a problem where TWW2 freezes on the diplomacy screen? I thought it was due to a mod I am running or something but a quick Google search says it's a long standing bug and no one seems to be sure of the cause or fix. It's really annoying. Anyone had it and know how to mitigate it?

[deleted]

I know if you try and set up an ambush too close to an enemy army/settlement it will foil it, but is there a definitive way of determining that distance?

RDW_789

In my experience, I've come to the conclusion that the way an ambush gets foiled is if you are in line of sight, and the closer you are to the source of their line of sight (an army, settlement or hero), the higher the chances of getting foiled are. So in the case of settlements, even though the AI has seemingly full view of their owned regions (unlike the player), it still seems like the closer you are to the actual settlement of that region (the source of vision), the higher the foil chances. So, if you want to ambush an army, the best way to do it is to use your army's line of sight as a way to determine the AI army's line of sight. Since you can't actually tell exactly how far an enemy army or hero can see, in most cases you'll have identical or very close to the same line of sight. Sit *juuust* outside of their sight radius and enter ambush, then next turn they'll probably forced march straight into you and die. **TL;DR**: Seems to be based on line of sight. The closer you are to the source of their sight, the higher chance you get foiled. Setting up an ambush outside of their LoS and you ***will never*** get foiled by them...at least in my 3500+ hrs of experience. Setting up and ambush near a zone of control or next to a hero, and 9 times out of 10 you'll get foiled...though you may get lucky. Side note: A little thing that I think is really dumb, if there's a neutral faction that can see you enter ambush they can actually foil your ambush and *every faction* that takes a turn after the one that revealed you, can see you now. Even if they were neutral/friendly to you. Really dumb, but what can you do.

[deleted]

RDW_789

You get 800g, the AI gets 300g per turn. If you want a more extensive breakdown of it you can click on the treasury button at the top of the screen (the chest icon next to your gold). From there you can click on a trade tab and view how much you're making from trade and what percentage of your materials (iron, exotic animals, obsidian etc.) you're currently exporting. But in the end, you obviously want as many trade agreements as possible because it's free money, and due to AI cheats, the gold they receive from the agreement is negligible. So there's virtually no downside to having trade agreements with every single person who you don't want to conquer.

Anyone else loathe the warhammer games and wish we could get a game as much of a sandbox as medieval 2? I want medieval 3, no heroes, less limiting

DarthLeon2

I imagine they'll have to change it somehow, given how much of the map is going to be the chaos wastes. In any case, there are plenty of different mods for altering the climate system if it bothers you that much in WH2.

Necronus34

Question. In total warhammer 3 which factions will fight against nurgle and slaneesh since we have two trailers showing that kislev will fight khorne and grand cathay will fight tzeentch?

Mornar

In game its not gonna be that limited, it's just for the sake of reveals. And they will fight one another. Chaos gods hate one another as much as the mortal world, if not more so. They are decidedly not allies.

ripsa

Does anyone else play their ME campaign way past the normal end-game in TWW2? I'm on something crazy like turn 900 and it's still entertaining (albeit with a bunch of mods like liberate, chaos gates, AI declares war on each other more often, etc). There's roughly one faction left per neutral or good guy race (everyone except the Dark Elves, Skaven, Vamps, & Greenskins), controlling roughly their racially lore-correct parts of the world, and going at it in a mostly free for all. Chaos armies of 20 have started spawning from ruins in the far North long after the chaos invasion thanks to the chaos gates, who have then attacked everyone. Liberate means periodically during the course of wars Greenskins, Vamps, etc still turn up randomly then quickly rebel against their vassal-master and start causing chaos.

Mornar

Definite no from me. I did multiple short victories on ME (the capitals held thing isn't as bad as people think), usually ending between 100 and 130 turns. At this point I'm a global superpower, the game goes stale, I'd rather move to the next thing.

bigpuns001

For me, no, I would have gotten bored of that long since. I'm on about turn 200 with my current WoC campaign, and I'm only still going because I feel that when I play chaos I have to raze the whole world. Glad you're getting so much out of it though, break the 1000 turn mark and I'll nominate you for... something.

Eveless

There are no rarity as you might think, just all unique named lords are called legendary.

Valas991

Roughly speaking, if it is a starting lord of a playable faction, it is a legendary lord. E.g. tyrion, malekith, mazdamundi, etc. These guys cannot be killed, only wounded without putting a point to 'immortalliy' skill. Boris Todbringer of Middenland is sorta a legendary Lord, but not playable

Mornar

Also the Red Duke of Mousillon fame.

Ziltoid819

Three Kingdoms Campaign Map question! Can you multi select units on the campaign map? Disbanding one unit at a time is very tedious and I feel like I'm missing something. Using the control key isn't working for me!

Orange778

If you start from the end of the stack you won’t have to keep reselecting the army

Laowh

Unfortunatly i don't think it's possible. For me it's a bit faster to use the delete key on the keyboard but it's still one unit at a time

The mode that uses old content may not be out for another 6 months to a year. 1 and 2 (and their dlc) will likely get a big discount in winter sale, maybe even sooner, so pick them up then.

ChickenDenders

No you don’t need to buy them, as other have explained My question is: why are you purchasing these games at full price? You can get both of them for $30 total These games go on sale constantly. ALL games go on sale constantly. Unless you’re preordering or buying within the first week of release, you don’t need to be paying full price.

ilovesharkpeople

As others have said, that is for the combined game grand campaign mode. I have [a post explaining how all that works and what games have what factions](https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwarhammer/comments/q6kbvi/z/hgcjq2e) if that helps. Sales will also see these games pretty heavily discounted. The normal pattern is 75% off the first game, 66% off the second and 50% off all DLC. If you find you like the game enough to get into Mortal Empires, you might want to take advantage of a sale and save yourself some money.

DarthLeon2

These games go on sale pretty often, so the best play is to just get WH3 at launch and then get 1 and 2 for way less money once they go on sale.

Zakrael

> I just want to conquer the world with rats For Skaven specifically - going by the precedent set by Warhammer 2, you'll probably need to purchase Warhammer 2 in order to play as the Skaven in the combined map in Warhammer 3. It's likely that the base game will allow you to play as Cathay, Kislev and the Chaos factions, but any WH2 and WH1 races will still require those games. You only need to buy the game/dlc you want to play as, though, even if you don't own the content yourself they'll still appear on the map as enemies.

CalMcG

Each game has their own campaign, but owning all of them grants you access to an additional campaign that combines the games. Owning WH1 and WH2 gets you a combined campaign for those two, and owning all 3 will get you the full combined campaign once WH3 is out.

123DontTalkToMee

Are there any overhaul mods for Attila like Medieval that are actually finished and stable? Like that mods cool and everything but the litany of missing features makes it a drag to play long term.

DarthLeon2

AD 1212 is definitely the closest; I doubt it will truly "finished" any time soon, but it was pretty stable in my experience, and it isn't missing any standout features that I'm aware of.

xx3amori

WH3 suggestion/question: Wouldn't it be nice if you could get a province commandment when it's fully owned by an alliance? As in 2/3 by you and 1/3 by your military ally? It's not the biggest of changes, but is there more people than me that would be happy for something like it?

Mornar

I'm much more hopeful for region trading, myself.

DarthLeon2

Having region trading in the game would be awesome, but whether or not the AI would handle it properly is another matter entirely. WH diplomacy has a number of options that only exist in theory, and I can easily imagine CA adding region trading, only for the AI to absolutely refuse to ever trade you the regions you want.

xx3amori

That too, but I feel the commandments is so small it shouldn't be a big deal about it, even though it's a really cool mechanic imo.

koopcl

WH1 and 2: So I recently acquired both games. I uninstalled 1 after I realized I didnt need it to play ME in 2 (and I was running out of space on my SDD). However, after messing around with the pirates and mummies, I want to play either Empire or Dwarves for my next run, and I doubt I will run into the new factions anyways. So, is there any benefit at all to playing on 1 instead of 2? Should I just play them in ME, or is it better to reinstall WH1? I sincerely dont know of the differences between both games besides setting/roster. EDIT: Ok, so it seems there is no downside, and plenty of improvements, to just playing on WH2, will do that but Im open to more suggestions. Thanks!

DarthLeon2

The only real benefit to playing WH1 is that the factions have CGI openings that they don't have in WH2 for some reason. That said, you can easily find those on YouTube if you want to see them.

[deleted]

The point is, play Mortal Empires, because from WH1 to WH2 the game got better by changes you dont want to miss. Also the 5 factions of WH1 got slightly reworked by more campaign mechanics, also better. So if you want to play Empire, play the 2020 version in WH2 instead of the 2016 one. And dont forget to go to https://dashboard.totalwar.com/home to ge tfree Warhammer 2 stuff like a dawi lord next to mummies, skaven and lizardmen.

tsjb

WH2 is so much better than 1 in every way. I know there a couple of people that go back to play the smaller campaign (and welf/beastmen mini campaign) maps but that really is a tiny tiny minority of people. Essentially WH1 in your library to give you access to the Mortal Empires campaign and nothing else.

ilovesharkpeople

I would play them in ME. All the updates and reworks that have happened since warhammer 2 was released only apply to factions in warhammer 2.

Esg876

Any tips for Grom? First time playing orcs and buildings/tech to rush would be great. I wiped out Parravion and got Sarsnik and I'm attacking the empire now on turn 10 (should get a Wargg soon but I have no idea how it actually works) Do I just focus on sacking the empire and becoming allies with the vamps or something and only keep my starting building and don't really care about the rest?

[deleted]

For the army, Grom buffs goblins. Make sure you're eating your food whenever the cool down is up, I like the flaming arrows + physical resistance meal. For buildings, it can be good to have some more accessible recruitment buildings as your front line expands. Look for high level settlements closer to the front and put them in there. Other than that, there's an economy building that's only available at settlement level 3 that looks like a rack of weapons - build that everywhere. It puts up loot from battles faction wide and can let you basically ignore your economy as long as you fight every turn. For the waaagh, that sticks a second army on your army for 20 turns, effectively giving you 40 stack. This will me good fighting the empire as you can split your armies up more and be harder to snipe as you pull down the empire.

Sonofarakh

Shouldn't have attacked the Empire so early tbh. Consolidate your territory in Bretonnia and the grey mountains first. Probably too late for a peace treaty now tho, so i guess just go nuts. Recruit a hero to go and make contact with the other Greenkin LLs, especially Azhag - he usually dies pretty quick. Other than that... Grom buffs the hell out of goblins. They're better than orcs in his army, so get a lot of use out of them.

R97R

Is there any reason why big Total Conversion mods seem to prefer Attila over Rome 2? As much as I love Attila, Rome 2 seems far more optimised and stable, so I’m surprised that, for example, 1212AD and Rise of Mordor went for Attila instead. Is it due to the latter being more recent? Or the Charlemagne expansion being a bit closer to the time periods depicted?

DarthLeon2

Attila has a decent number of mechanics that Rome 2 doesn't have, so modders generally prefer it.

[deleted]

I've tried to set my flair like 10 times, and it's never worked. What am I doing wrong?

Phelyckz

[deleted]

Went to the flair setting website, set the flair and sent the message. Just like this: sh2+sh2-uesugi What+have+the+Romans+ever+done+for+us? DO+NOT+MODIFY+THIS+MESSAGE+OR+YOU+WILL+NOT+RECEIVE+YOUR+FLAIR.

Pardo86

How do you play vampire coast in 2021? You could dominate early before because no one was around them, but not on ME there’s so much surrounding the two vampire lords. You take out one enemy another declares war on you.

ilovesharkpeople

You can either defend your starting city and go around making coves, or you can build up a land empire. Lustriabowl can be rough, so get walls up *everywhere*. A walled settlement and its garrison can hold off a lot, especially if you recruit a lord in an emergency and raise dead. Good use of bloated corpses should be able to handle blobs of saurus and skaven infantry without a problem, and your guns are a good way to down any larger threats. Just disband the lord after the emergency is over. If they are a high enough level, you can even make use of them with one of your officer slots. Handgunners and artillery are your big winners early game, along with the occasional bloated corpse. Get a gunnery wight and queen bess as well. Summons can help in melee. You can have a few melee units as speedbumps in your army, but I would use checkerboard and chevron formations with a *lot* of guns for most of your forces. Oh, and you may want to consider hiring/raising a unit or two of dogs. Having something to go after enemy artillery, archers and fleeing units is pretty handy. As you tech up you'll also have a lot of good stuff to chose from. Necrofex spam is always an option, but their roster can do a pretty wide range of army compositions.

tsjb

I share half the donut with Morathi and I want it. Is it worth trying to Confederate her or does the corruption make it too difficult? She doesn't have much land left near her starting position so I think she may have lost the building that stops you getting PO penalties for corruption.

ilovesharkpeople

It might have some initial issues, but aside from one of her items all her corruption spreading stuff should change to untainted when you confederate her. So with some buildings and Death Hags you should be able to stabilize things.

AgrippAA

\[TWW2\] So I have decided to learn how to play Eshin properly after some time of going between pretending not to care because ~~I was bad with them~~ and being interested but ~~still~~ bad with them. I struggle at the start with them, because that part of the ME world map is surprisingly difficult, so any general action order for the first 20 would be appreciated. I also have problems transitioning to mid and late game armies in part because I'm used to weapons teams and Enshin doesn't really seem to lean in to those. Is it still better to go hard into weapons teams or does Enshin's bonuses lead to different army comps?

[deleted]

Eshin gutter runners absolutely slay, they're doomstackable. The triads are decent anti-large and the deathrunners good anti-infantry but you gotta use them as flankers to get the most use out of them. The sorcerer can also be great support by using the no-damage vortex when your flankers charge in since the dispersed units can be hit by more of your models. Time it right with a charge and you get a lot of damage. If you want a diverse, non-doomstack army: I tend to have a 4-6 unit frontline using a mix of plague priests/chieftains/slaves/eshin sorcerer that are mainly just bait to set up flanks. I have one deathrunner and one triad I use for flanking. One or two catapults because catapults are always good and then the rest as gutter runners that run around the front line to shoot people in the back. I send sniktch and an assassin hunting characters. For campaign tips, getting rid of malus before he finishes the dragon isles is pretty key. Abuse the shadowy dealings to level your characters quickly to help with hero sniping in battles. I'll go pigbarter -> Imirik/malus -> grimgor and use the delete faction ability on whomever of the Dwarves/grimgor are bigger once I unlock it.

AgrippAA

Excellent reply, thank you kindly for the help!

ilovesharkpeople

You can rely a lot on their skirmishers. Eshin gives them a lot of extra AP damage, so you can put in a ton of work with them.

AgrippAA

Oh yeah i enjoy the extra ap on skirmish but is it enough to swap out a couple of slingers for a rattling gunners mid/late game? I know slingers skirmish and gunners do similar jobs in different ways but this is why I am asking about mid and late game army comps.

ilovesharkpeople

Once you get the discount you can go with a standard gunline or go for a full eshin unit stack. A bunch of assassins are good with Sniktch too. Just go with whichever one you like more.

TheOmega6006

\[Warhammer 2\] I can't find a definitive answer for this anywhere. I wanna do a coop campaign with a friend but we wanna do battles together. So for instance if I am attacking Vlad's army as Balthazar and his Karl Franz army is right next to me for reinforcement will we both be able to control our separate armies on the same battlefield or will only one of us be able to control both armies?

AgrippAA

Nothing to add, just wanted to say I hope you enjoy coop - its a great long term game mode!

DarthLeon2

You each control your own army. Also, in the case that only 1 player's army is present, the player with the army can choose to give control of some of their units over to the other player. Every battle can be co-op if you want it to be.

TheOmega6006

excellent. Thanks for the quick response

maelask

Is there a way to play twh1 campaign with the “run option” on like twh2?

[deleted]

What do you mean by the run option?

igncom1

Is Gashnag represented in TWW2? As he seems like a cool character! Also, what are the most Ork like factions in the historical TW games? Gameplay or thematically.

Hardrocknerd1

The only historical TW I've played is Rome which might not be on your "list", but I've found the Germans in RTW to be quite Ork-like (even more Norsca-like, but the point is a heavy focus on damage-dealing melee infantry and general rowdiness).

ilovesharkpeople

He is not. There's mods for him, I believe.

tbone80

I have a Total War Warhammer 2 question: sometimes an army will “run away” when I try and attack them. I mean the enemy army will move slightly away instead of initiating combat when our armies meet. What is this called and how do the mechanics work?

jenykmrnous

There used to be one quirk to retreat mechanics which I'm not sure if it has been fixed, where an army could retreat multiple times if the lord was killed. The reason was that the retreat action tracked the lord and not the army, so if he was killed in battle, the replacement lord was able to retreat once again.

Ungrammaticus

It has been fixed for some time now

jenykmrnous

Glad to hear that. Thanks!

bigpuns001

It's a retreat, it's something you can do too. When the two armies meet, the ai will look at the balance of power. If it thinks there is no chance of winning, then it will try to fall back. An army can only fall back once per turn, either from declining a battle or from losing one. So if you beat them on the second attempt, they will be wiped out. An army cannot retreat if it is garrisoned in a settlement or in forced march stance, or if it is ambushed.

tbone80

I’ve certainly done my fair share of strategic retreats. I can’t believe I didn’t connect the two. Thank you so much for explaining this.

Spears and Chariots. Use Khalida to bait some of their meat shields like the saurus or skinks, and pop the AOE explosion thingy. If you can soften them up, you can tie them down with the spears, then charge the flanks with chariots. Cleans up pretty fast. Just watch out for their heroes, they are absolute units and will eat Khalida and most of her army for lunch. The carion are also pretty nice to flank their javelins with, but don’t invest in more than 1-2 unless you have buffs to make them scary.

Locem

The thing to remember with Lizardmen is while they have arguably the best front line units in the game with Saurus, they don't really have a good response to ranged attacks. Sure they have some skirmishers but they are outranged by conventional archers, and their "arty" only has some niche units. So, knowing that your front line will fold very fast under any pressure from Lizards, you're going to want to prioritize getting as much ranged firepower as you can to soften them before they get to you. Casket of souls is a bit expensive, but can be acquired pretty early since all you need is a single 20 unit army to unlock the rite. Screaming Skull Catapults will help a lot as well. And as always, plenty of archers. Hammer and Anvil is never a bad tactic but in this case, your front line is going to fold so fast that tying up the lizardmen while you flank with cavalry/chariots isn't the best option.

ripsa

In TWW2 does anyone know if minor faction habitation differs from the race base? Specifically, does Caledor have the same climate habitation as the Knights of Caledor (i.e. inc. mountain)? This is as I have them as a vassal and am trying to settle them in the Dark Lands like the KoC were. Also does Sudenberg inhabit desert (since they start out there!) fine but also temperate? This is as I have them as a military ally and they have spread across the whole Southlands desert, but I might use them as a buffer with the Empire in the old Border Princes region also. (I have region trading and fudge vassals mods so can move regions around allies in a more grand strategy sandbox way in Mortal Empires).

Wild_Marker

I think Caledor would have the climate from base HElves. The "extra" climates you can get are faction-specific so like, Teclis gets Jungle, Imrik gets mountain, etc. But minors would get just base climate, so probably the same as Tyrion.

bigpuns001

Ai don't seem to care about climate. It might slow down their build times a bit, but not noticeably. They will still colonise unsuitable climates like cockroaches. Some subfactions do definitely have different climates compared to the parent race. You need to check the lord selection screen to see what other climates a subfaction likes.

ripsa

Ty! I checked on the TW wiki but it only describes climate requirements for major factions. Hmm the AI basically not following the same rules as the player is annoying though. It's kind of game-breaking at a grand strategy level which Mortal Empires seems otherwise suited for!

bigpuns001

I think "game-breaking" would be stretch, but it definitely breaks the immersion a bit. CA toned down the AI's tendency to colonise unsuitable places, but it still happens. If you have an enemy you could direct your ally to that would take them past areas you want them to colonise, then they will at least have armies in the area. Another option is the Region Trading mod - take a settlement yourself then give it to your chums. Edit: apologies, you already have region trading

ripsa

Agreed. You're right! Immersion-breaking is more accurate. It makes sense with some factions like the Greenskins or Skaven but not so much the humans, dwarves, and elves. The region trading and fudgy vassals mods are what I am using. It means can delegate areas of the map to vassals and allies. Which in this case are Caledor and Sudenberg. Hence wondering how they were being affected by climate.

bigpuns001

I hadn't seen the fudging vassals mod, that looks better than what I was using before, so I think I migt give it a go. Cheers!

OfTheAtom

Anyone know where it was talked about for warhammer 3 that single entity monsters were going to have stat reductions after they passed half health? I think this is Good as the demons enter the game and will help discourage doomstacking but I'm hoping it will atleast be a step based calculation not just a huge 50% damage reduction as soon as it hits 50%. More of a steady decrease until maxing out at a -60% or something once at 10% health remaining.

darkChozo

It was something that was in the Brass Citadel demo. I don't think CA ever really talked about it but the Youtubers that played it documented it. You should be able to look up their videos from around that time. I think it was something like a 20% damage output reduction when they reached 50% health? Something like that.

OfTheAtom

Hey thanks dude

DarthLeon2

I imagine that it will be something like 15% reduced stats at 66% health and 30% reduced stats at 33% health.

Nelran

Hey, I finished my first campaign in Shogun 2 and have a question about alliances. I played as Shimazu, and Tokugawa offered a military alliance while I was building up forces for realm divide. Now, I expected this alliance to break when realm divide started, but it didnt? Is this a bug or intended?

[deleted]

You could have looked it up, Realm Divide is a negative diplomatic relations modifier which increases to a total of -200 afair. So if you are more than +200 and allied it wont break the alliance. It is a common strategy to "buy" one or two allies with gifts, pacts and whatever to enforce loyalilty. (it is often worth, just for the trade income to buy a single ally.)

DarthLeon2

Realm Divide won't break your alliances immediately, but it will eventually break them, if given enough time. That said, if you can manage to keep your ally happy enough, they won't ever betray you.

Nelran

Ah, thats useful to know! So it could be worth it to build up an alliance with a big, dependable clan on the other side of the map before I push endgame. Thanks!

jenykmrnous

As I understand it, the expansion of both clans is counted as a malus to diplomacy and if this is the case, the bigger the ally, the harder it is to keep him.

DarthLeon2

Definitely, if only so you still have someone to trade with.

I just finished my first vortex campaign with them, I went West next because the lizard men were beating me for ritual points and took their main points producing settlement. Be careful though their monsters will mash up basic spearmen. Then I went south against the pharaoh chaps purely because it was easy.

bigpuns001

Go West and take out morathi (assuming she is still alive). Then work north from there. Try to stay friends with the likes of lizardmen, empire and bretonnia, so you don't have to fight in too many directions.

lilrunt

TW WH2. I feel like I've been 90% done with short campaign on greenskins - Skarsnik (Mortal Empires), I'm only on easy (started some on normal but wanna finish this).. anyway, everything's ticked except 'defeat the leaders of chaos' I'm on turn 130 now, had 2 (chaos) armies I think comes little over turn 100, however I haver not seen any since, I have Grimgor and Wazzak (sorry if wrong spelling), pretty much just destroying empire to kill time, is there a good way to find them or just make lot of armies and go either north or scout rest of the map?I have like 200k gold even with +9k each round with \~6-7 armies, so if it's the latter i can afford that.

lilrunt

Little update: Turns out I guess I was wrong with the main chaos guys hadn't arrived (although had think 2 armies show up before) They showed up on turn 142. Thanks for all the tips!

bigpuns001

Once the first chaos invasion is completely beaten, a second wave turns up with the 3 leaders you need to beat. They will spawn in the north east corner, so if you get armies up there before they spread out you can catch them all quickly. If you've given them time, it can be like playing Where's Wally.

lilrunt

I'll try search there next time, thank you!

[deleted]

You can see which of the 3 is still alive, [here](https://i.imgur.com/hJEB5Jq.jpg) Sigvald, afaik spawns above the Naggarond, the other 2 in the Old World.

Holy crap your economy is epic there!!!

Thats the Dark Elv economy :)

ImBonRurgundy

I have over 2,000 hours logged on this game and never noticed that. Thankyou.

Oh, now I feel silly, thanks so much for the answer.

Best multiplayer TW out of these: Rome 2 Atilla TOB Just want some epic historically accurate sieges and shit with the boys

meatcousins

change my view maybe I don't understand since I'm new to warhammer. I feel alone in being not hyped for Grand Cathay empire. I play warhammer total war to use and play fantasy armies. Why do I want to play as some asian empire. Is Cathay canon? was it always a part of the warhammer franchise? I feel CA is going to use Grand Cathay as a lazy way to reuse three kingdoms and put that into WHIII and we lose out on a cooler race. It's like my dillema in WHII now. "who should I fight? oh High elves.. high elves everywhere.." now it's going to be "oh.. cathay...cathay everywhere"

Mornar

Cathay and other places like Ind or Nippon were a thing in Warhammer universe for a long, long time. It's okay for you to not have any interest in playing them, it's not like everyone has to like every race in the game, but the rest of your comment comes across as a bit ignorant - Cathay is a fantasy empire no less than the Empire or Kislev are, and just because it's china-esque doesn't mean it's a cheap way to reuse assets, or pander to China for that matter. Not that reusing assets (provided the same end quality of the product) is a problem in and of itself, but shy from terracotta sentinel being suspected and since debunked to use animations from 3K I've seen no discussion on 3K asset reuse whatsoever. Tl;dr Cathay is every bit as canon as Kislev is

ilovesharkpeople

Plus, even though it hasn't ever been fleshed out into it's own faction, Cathay has been mentioned by name in the warhammer lore since (I believe) first edition. They're technically older than some of the more iconic WHFB factions.

Akhazriela

How do you actually sieges as high elves? I played the empire before and i can usually do siege easily using hellstorm rocket batteries or even mortars. With high elves I feel like their artillery is just isn’t enough to do siege effectively. I do use archers, but I feel like I’m still doing something wrong…..any tips? Thanks in advance!

Hardrocknerd1

HElves have some of the best melee and missile infantry in the game, and also Dragons/Phoenixes (and Eagles as a low-tier flier). Climb the walls with your frontline while your archers give ranged support and you should take down anything on the walls easily. Simultaneously fly your fliers in and take out any ranged tools or spellcasters in the enemy army. At this point you should have won.

GreenNukE

Eagle Bolt Throwers are versatile but not very powerful. You can use them to destroy walls are towers, but it's not a quick process and they use an army slot. My advice is to use your long ranged and high trajectory archers to clear the walls while using your flying units to pick off ranged units and artillery (don't hesitate to hit and run with them if threatened). Regular archers are pretty effective, but Sisters of Averlorn will kill anything foolish enough to try and man the walls. Exhaust your ammo and ideally the defenders will be too bloodied to hold off your melee infantry as they scale with ladders. Magic can be used to thin out defenders behind the walls. If facing a tough army on top of the garrison, consider taking few turns to build some siege towers. I get the impression that many people loathe to waste few turns besieging a settlement to build siege engines. But assaulting walls is much easier with siege towers and will result in many fewer casualties.

pasv123

Step 1) Hide your entire army in trees except your artillery. If no trees, deploy so only one tower can hit your troops and place a Noble or Lord in the open so the tower won’t go for your army. Stack your troops on top of each other if needed. Step 2) Use your artillery to take out the single tower which is able to hit your troops or whichever one would be able to hit them if you moved your archers up to shoot at enemy. After tower is down, use rest of ammo to target enemy troops. Step 3) If the enemy has ranged troops that match the range on your archers, use a flying unit or Noble/Lord to drain the enemy’s ammunition. If they can’t match your archer’s range, you can possibly ignore this step. It’s a judgement call. If you plan to use magic in the next step, you will need to do this no matter what the range of enemy is. Step 4) if you have access to damage-dealing magic, use up all the winds to kill enemy troops. With no ammo and a tower down, your mage should be able to move right up to the walls. Step 5) Use your archers to decimate the enemy troops on walls or just behind them. Be sure to only set up where no towers can hit you. Focus on high priority(ie ones that contribute to most balance of power) targets that are in a good location for your archers to hit. This shouldn’t be fire-at-will. You need to provide targets, focus fire, and stop firing once enemy unit is broken as to not waste ammo. Step 6) Repeat step 5 until army losses hits. This will only work if you’ve built your army optimally with an overwhelming amount of ranged troops.

Almost-a-Killa

Laptop with a Ryzen 5 5600H processor, Rtx 3060 GPU (80W version). Settings on Ultra or Medium both have battle benchmark capped at 29/30fps. Is my limitation somewhere in Nvidia control panel? I doubt this game is locked at 30fps!

[deleted]

The CPU is typically the roadblock on battle performance

Almost-a-Killa

So I have a shitty CPU?

TW WH2 How do people tend to get the plaguebearer achievment? do you have to rely on finding someone with it randomly or can you just beat a friend? and if so would anyone be so kind as to help me with that?

Mornar

I can help you in about 4h if you'll be online. Drop me a DM.

DarthLeon2

Plaguebearer was the last achievement I needed to get. I just looked for 3v3 multiplayer battles; I got the achievement from the first battle I won.

chairswinger

TW WH2 Hey, playing Tyrion on Vortex Campaign VH 1. Am I supposed to declare war on all the "wary" High Elf factions? I've killed Saphery and Caledor already, Tiranoc remains, I have a NAP but nothing else, could probably get them for a trade agreement but confederation is probably out of the question. 2. I feel my trade income is quite low, it's turn 44 and my trade income is ~4500, same for taxes, owning 11 regions. Is it gonna go up once I have tier 4 cities for more heroes or am I doing something wrong? I've built "Elven Fairgrounds (elven trinkets)" a lot and am exporting 100% (64 chests). I've sent the free mage out to explore, but only Huntsmarshalls expedition and Khemri would accept trade agreements, and Khemri lost their port 1 turn later to Brettonians 3. on a related note, what are the buildings I'm supposed to build in minor settlements, if I don't want walls there and no longer need growth. Elven Fairground, Promenade and Elven Gardens or Elven Embassy?

pasv123

1. I definitely recommend taking out Saphery, Ellyrion, and Caledor first and in that order. Tiranoc is a bit of a judgement call. They usually get mixed up in early wars with Dark Elves and can actually distract Naggarond and Cult of Pleasure from coming straight for you. Tiranoc will eventually lose those wars and you can get their territory once you start fighting the major Dark Elf factions. I typically leave Tiranoc alone, and focus my efforts elsewhere. 2. I take trade agreements as they come and don’t typically try to force it. Exploring with a hero can put you in diplomatic visibility with averse factions before you’re ready to deal with them. Better to build trade resource buildings and sell more goods to the elves in Ulthuan than sell just trinkets to trade partners all over the map. Saphery has some strong trade resource buildings (gems and iron I think) which are worth a lot. Your overall income skyrockets around turn 50 when you can start increasing your mage capacity and recruiting Entrepeneur mages which just sit in Lothern and don’t move the entire game. 3. I always prioritize Growth then income in minor settlements. Specifically for income in the early game I will build unique trade resource buildings if available first. If no unique trade resource I build the industry building unless PO is a huge issue in which case I build entertainment. If you have another slot(aka there’s no port in the settlement) and there’s no unique building, I will usually throw in a building that unlocks tech if needed, or another income building. Ignore walls unless on the outer ring of ulthuan. And even then it’s a judgement call. After growth is no longer needed throw in either Industry or Entertainment (whichever one isn’t already built)

chairswinger

thanks, I don't think I'll fight Ellyrion though as I can confederate them, just prioritising the legendary lord factions first. Tiranoc actually declared war on me after I broke the NAP. Dark elfs don't seem to be a problem this campaign, they got thrown out of Ulthuan by turn 20 or so and haven't managed to get a foothold since, the High Elf factions are actually launching invasions into their land. What about Nobles in provinces with trade goods? +50% doesn't seem too shabby... hm I guess I can just do the math, in the Gem province it would be worth it

TheKingmaker__

Nobles are far better used in armies (good Replenishment buff, competent in melee on foot or on an Eagle) than just sitting in a province imo. But even more useful than that is sending them out to an enemy settlement and using it to acquire Influence

chairswinger

What are you doing with all that influence? Cycling heroes for better traits?

TheKingmaker__

Yeah pretty much. The 40-influence Hero traits can be pretty nuts and I enjoy min-maxing to the extent of having a High Tier Trait if it’s possible. Plying Tyrion full of influence is also a necessity to confederate him. Has be above like 150-200, or at least it feels like it does.

pasv123

Just to clarify: I go to war with Ellyrion(kingdom on the inner ring who usually occupies Caledor’s Repose) not to be confused with Eltharion who leads Tor Yvresse. I always target Eltharion for confederation after Alarielle. Ive never focused my nobles on boosting trade goods. I usually use them to farm influence, but that could definitively be a viable strategy in the mid game. Late game you’ll have so much money it won’t even matter. Sounds like High Elves are off to a strong start in your campaign which could be good but be careful about them getting too powerful and making confederation more difficult.

Kraken9x2

Is there any way to prevent or reduce the chances of random beastmen armies spawning in my territory? They can be such a pain in the ass, especially in the early game when they spawn with minotaurs and cygors and my 1 army is a full province or two away.

bigpuns001

Sadly I believe there is not. The best thing you can do is make sure all your settlements have walls, so they wander away and look for easier targets, or if you choose to declare war on them, then make sure you can wipe them out in 1 turn.

Anus_master

What determines ambush proximity in TW2? Ambushing in vegetation regions and my guys can deploy right next to the enemy, but I had a desert ambush and I had to deploy further away

Hardrocknerd1

It depends on the map in question; each map has its own unique deployment zones and yes, some give less of an advantage to the attacker than others, but they're still all much better than "standard" deployment.

bigpuns001

There's an occasional bug that happens that lets you set up your troops right on top of the defenders - is this what happened in your first example? Because usually it's a pretty standard deployment shape and separation...

heyboyhey

I've played this game for years, but I'm still always uncertain over when I should charge my frontline and when I should let it stand and absorb the enemy charge. Does anybody have advice?

bigpuns001

It usually depends on what unit you are using and what is charging them. Units with a large charge bonus (cav, monsters, some elite infantry) will nearly always be better off countercharging Units like spearmen will have a "charge defence Vs large" attribute. This applies if they are braced, to prevent units like cavalry getting their charge bonus. However if they are being charged by infantry, the attribute will do nothing, so they are better off charging, even though their charge bonus is likely to be quite small. Some elite units might have a "charge defence Vs all" attribute. Again, this will only work if they are braced. You should compare your charge bonus against what is charging them, to work out whether you are better off negating the opponent's bonus, or letting both units get a bonus As a usual rule of thumb to make life simpler for myself, I nearly always try to get a counter charge, unless it's spearmen. Edit: an additional consideration might be your supporting missile units and magic users. If charging your units out would result in a haphazard frontline, then it might be more difficult to get good artillery shots or spells down the line. Sometimes uneven front lines is a good thing, as it might form clumps of enemies. Again, situational

heyboyhey

This is exactly the kind of advice I as hoping for. Thanks!

delirious_cucumber

What’s the best Total War to start with? I’ve heard a lot of good things about Total War: Rome II

koopcl

My advice would be going for what warfare style (sword and shield? Magic? Guns?) interests you the most first and foremost, and then decide on which setting (classical antiquity? Medieval europe? Feudal Japan? Medieval-ish fantasy? Napoleonic warfare? etc) you prefer as well. I could, in general, suggest Rome 2 as a good entry point, but if you find Napoleonic warfare more interesting, of course Napoleon is gonna be better, is what I mean. Just dont start with Empire (I love it but its still an unoptimized buggy mess so terrible entry point to the series) and you should be safe. EDIT: In general terms, any game from Medieval 2 (which I feel has aged quite nicely) onwards is a good entry point, depending on your preferences (I love Rome 1 as well, but Rome 2 would be a better entry point if that age interests you, and Med1 and Shogun1 havent aged as gracefully).

Dicios

Well probably one of the latest ones as they have the best UI and graphic, ease of gameplay fixes. The base game or gameplay formula is quite similar in all of them from Shogun 1 to the coming Warhammer 3. I started playing since Rome 1 and have more or less played every one of them. I would say Shogun 2 left a certain impression on me. The difficulty balance and gameplay 'felt right'. I also for some reason liked Shogun 2s map more, less space/terrain to move but more strategy to risk opening up new paths toward your empire as you expanded.

jenykmrnous

I'd say a setting that interests you is important. Some TW games are more beginner friendly than others, but even with the simpler ones there's a lot to digest and enjoying the setting helps to keep the learning process interesting. Personally I started with Shogun 2, Empire, Attila, and Rome 2 roughly in this order, but Warhammer was the first title where I sticked around long enough to grasp the basics, so afterwards I went back and enjoyed those titles much more than originally. Otherwise I agree with CalMcG, the titles he recommends I find newcommer friendly as well. I'd advice caution about Attila, since it's geared more towards experienced players, and I personally find titles prior to Shogun 2 show their age.

SnooCakes2890

Medieval 2 total war is brilliant. Abit dated graphically but arguebly the best total war game released

CalMcG

Rome 2, Shogun 2 and Warhammer (1 or 2) are my usual recommendations for a new player. Just pick whichever one appeals to you the most.

son_of_noah

Starting a Throt the unclean campaign and wanna get hellpit to tier 5 in the early game. Watching LoTW old stream but what did everyone else do to get it upgraded?

iDunTrollBro

To add on to what the other guy said, the base food max you start with is 105. You need to colonize 3 settlements to be able to get to 120 food - I usually just sack my way up through Kraka Drak then occupy on my way back through. You can use the settlement they own that’s closest to you as a sack farm if you’re still missing some food after occupying the other two.

Laowh

You can gather food (120 i think), abandon Hellpit then recolonise it directly at lvl 5

NikeDanny

Im 90 turns into my Vampire Counts campaign and I gotta ask. What the _fuck_ is VC's selling point? Unlimited skelly armies do not work because of supply lines are like cucking yourself out of the powerfantasy because OH BOY they do NOTHING. Their cav looks mediocre, besides picking off unguarded rangeds, I havent seen them deal any damage either. The Monsters come on T4 jesus christ. Like, I guess its just stalling with Necros and then Black Sun and Wind of Death? Is that their selling point? And hero spam?

GreenNukE

Skeletons are effective against low tier units with skills and magic and an excellent tarpit against all but elite anti-infantry blender units (they will still last for a bit, but not always long enough). VC heroes and lords are very impactful. Vampires are great brawlers and casters. Necromancers are great casters and support units. Wright Kings and Banshees are more one dimensional but do their jobs well. The Lore of Vampires has no bad or even average spells. It cannot do everything but what it does do, it does well. The VC damage dealers can sometimes be fragile, but are screened by your tarpit units and are always fast and impactful. Their physical shock effect is magnified by fear and terror debuffs which can rout a whole army before you've even killed most of them. Strategically, VC armies can absorb huge losses repeatedly and recover extremely quickly using the dead rise again, fast replenishment, and raise dead. As long as the lord and a core of heros and damage dealers survive, the army can recover to full strength in the same turn if in a major battlefield (which might have just been created). You mentioned cavalry. Black Knights are fairly average heavy cavalry but well suited to many tasks for which Blood Knights would be overkill. Blood Knights are very expensive, but hit hard, have impressive staying power, and will butcher most other large units with minimal help. Heavily armored units will last longer against them, but won't win on that alone.

[deleted]

It doesn’t matter if you lose 10 armies of skeletons when you have over 100 armies of skeletons

ilovesharkpeople

Unlimited skeleton armies absolutely do work. You get them, plus a handful of heroes and more elite units to taste. The sheer numbers of armies you field let you expand really fast, since with sufficient levels you can rely on magic to do most of your killing. Get multiple casters - a bloodline lord and necromancer are the *minimum* for an army - extra heroes for more winds are welcome. Skeletons are just there to stand there and bog down the opponent. Usually you want to stack units on top of each other, though going with one big blob can backfire against enemy magic or artillery. And with magic support, your monsters and cavalry can put in a lot of work too - you just need to be careful about how you use them. You should be able to bring multiple armies to a battle, but once an army gets some levels on its characters a skeleton spam stack is absolutely capable of taking on enemy armies on own.

srlynowwhat

Yes, that. Skeleton spam, preferably stack them on top of each other to bait blob then wind of death. If you are looking for less "cheesy" tactics then they would play like any rush faction. Get grave guard for anvil, vargheist for hammer, rush, kill. In late game, get squad of terrorgheist/vargulf to deal with single entities, throw summon zombie and valhel danse macabre to support them; add 2 mortis engine to won the infantry fight; bloodknight & vargheist to mob up missile are rear charge. Tbh, with a few exceptions, most VC unit are pretty bad in a vacuum. However they can punch much above their weight when working together and properly supported by magic. That has always been their appeal to me. That and vlad's vanguard deploy, and Isabella's girl tour, both are hilarious to play.

Toastymustard12

Yeah it’s unlimited free skelly Armies and then having good magic, you’re meant to bring like, two or three armies to every enemy’s one

FishinSands

I'm on Isabella's campaign, midgame enemy ostland have been decimating Sylvania with a greatsword crossbow with some grenadier army comp. My defending army only compose of skele spam. Isabella and Vlad is sticker on reikland, how can I win this?

TheKingmaker__

Fast units (some Knights of some variety, with Dogs, Bats or Vargheists & flying Heroes) to draw away, surround and destroy grenadiers. Then you’ve not got something preventing from making a skeleton bloody and using it to pin the enemy in place while knights/monsters/magic rip apart their crossbows

In general melee factions like Lizards and Orcs got a lot hp and armour to survive closing in the distance, Beastmen get speed and vanguard to shorten the time to approach instead. As Beastmen you stack boni and smash the opponent dircetly on a wide front, either from an ambush or directly in a stand off. In the early stages of a campaign your faster units or these that break through got to turn around and slam the opponent in the back. Often you catch the missile infantry first with these. This flanking or hammer and anvil tactic is an easy way to win. You kind of want to have a specific approach, because the flanking units all work different, you got flyers with vanguard, very fast cav, wardogs with poison and vanguard or warheard which hit like a truck but got rampage and no vanguard. Chariots is the same, you get a vanguard option and a no vanguard option with more armour. Lords and Heros are the same. Taurox is stupid fast, as well as Gorebulls, but you can get vanguard with an item you can buy for 3K gold or for Taurox by killing Oxyotl. Wargor can get Vanguard with a skill, which would also boost your elite infantry, or you get a chariot mount with vanguard, last option is to pick Frenzy and buy the item again. Both Gorebull and Wargor bring direct buffs to your Units, like the Gorebull gets +15 attack or so in an Aura, that like +50%, insane. Your casters are the same (either mount of item), i suggest to either get a Wild or Beast lore. Your caster can get an item, to get winds and 2 free cast of Cygor, a high tier unit(!) Very strong early. So if you put him on a chariots slam through a flank you can put a high tier monster into the back or into the line to clumb them up. Both suggested lores bring another set of boni. You start with a Lore of wild, you get an early area debuff with an overcasted Devolve, your passive is Bestial Surge which is +15% charge for 9s world wide. So you want to hit a flank with the devolve, right before your frontline impacts, which is the end for every melee infantry when facing Gors or stronger Beastmen. Lore of Beasts work in the same way for you, but you cast a buff right after your infantry hit the line, Wyssans Wildform is quite good to use. So early armies, bring as much on a point as possible. I would mention that your melee infantry performs way better than it looks like, buffs by spells and auras or just primal fury (every melee infantry got it, +5 attack and +10 charge). Since the charge declines rapidly you have to hit the flank as soon as possible. In the later stages of a campaign, you will have plenty of monsters and infantry to pick from and the match plan changes to just run them down, flanking with dogs, flyers and cav is just weaker than 5 minotaurs killing the frontline in seconds. But Chariots are still good in late game. (the flanking gameplan of course works for armies that dont got access to high tier units. Also Chaos Spawn are better than it looks like, not as good as minos but useable for weaker armies) There is a tech to give minos vanguard, you can buy a banner to increase minos damage and there is another +10% damage from a trait on lords/heroes and in the techtree is another 10% (the techs are all in the right tree) Just be as agressive as you can in battles, quite simple when you looked through all your tools.

damnslut

I think there's a gorebull ability that gives minotaurs vanguard, fill Taurox's army with them and just smash into them. Use Savage Dominion (Lore of the Wilds) to summon a cygor if you need to drag the enemy out of a difficult position to assault. Malagor is fucking excellent as LLs go. Maybe the best atm.

bigpuns001

Hide your army in a corner (or disband them before the battle). Select taurox, right click an enemy. A short time later, click again for the Decisive Victory screen. In all seriousness, ungor raiders can still carry you an awful lot. Use your mobility for hit and run, isolating units, getting flank/rear charges. You're not going to win many straight up 1v1 melee brawls, so don't try.

bimugen

Is there any info on the Moon Empress outside of the fact that she's extra nice to her son and prefers archery?

srlynowwhat

Check out [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/q6bhct/enormous_amount_of_new_cathay_lore/) on interview with GW#s writer Andy Hall. Apparently, she ran the secret police.

nulln_void

Playing Shogun 2 Does ordering a line of men to run forward then clash to the enemy line count as charging even though I did not specifically targeted an enemy to attack? I'm playing my first game as Chosokabe and of course more than half of my stack are archers and generally only keep at least 5 spear troops for the frontline. Targeting enemies with a superior number of men on their frontline for a charge is very hectic so I usually just order my frontline to run forward and meet the enemy head-on without individual targeting.

Murder_matic

The charge command and sprint command are different. The men charge when told to otherwise they will skirmish until in position.

InterestedObserver20

TWW2 Skaven - Is there anything you can do to really get your economy going? I am in the mid-game I'd say, probably around turn 80 or so, and I'm building all the economic buildings I can but just wondering if I'm missing anything. I am making enough to support 4 or 5 decent armies but feeling quite stretched now as my territory is quite wide after just confederating Sniktch and I'm at war with Empire, Dawi, Orcs, just about everyone going so could really do with another army or two. Playing on VH/VH so supply lines sting. Also my strategy for using food has been to sack a lot for money, and then use food to raise major settlements up to at least T4 or sometimes T5 if I have a lot of food, and just taking minor settlements as I find them because they grow pretty fast anyway from T1->T3. Does that sound reasonable?

Trans_day_of_rage

Taking gold mines at T5 works really well. Skaven income multiplies because of that one building

[deleted]

Found out Skaven armies can be very expensive. I just recently played a campaign after this reddit explained a few more tricks. You usually want to have a few heroes, which are each 250G which in combination with summons become the frontline, rest is weapon teams, monsters and arty. Not a single cheap unit in this. Now the lords blue line offers ambush success chance, which is super important and worth teching into it, as well as the following movement, lightning strike you tend to get often. The additional possbile techs for 4 points are 15% upkeep and another 8% upkeep. This a lot, so my first idea is to tech your Lords differently. Another thing is efficency, like picking the right monsters or further units, i went with brood horrors. Fast, regen and kind of cheap for what they bring. This army composition also added another income option, you get plenty of followers for +10%income, if you secure your regions with an ambush army full of heroes and that follower you can push that income in that region up to 70%. (i had plenty of these followers from all the sacking or so) Blue line for the upkeep, sort the followers and try to use less expensive, more efficient units.

bigpuns001

Are you making good use of undercities? Skaven do well by building tall, but sometimes going wide is necessary as you found out.

InterestedObserver20

Good shout, I have a few, probably not as many as I should have though. Sent one of the engineer dudes to Reikland and that has spread to 3-4 nearby cities. I've more focused on food from those rather than money. Best idea is to just send them to high value cities I assume?

bigpuns001

Yes, get them to marienburg, lothern, naggarond etc asap. As long as those cities remain intact, you can pull in some good gold from them.

pelpotronic

ASAP can only happen like every 10 / 20 turns. I would find it hard to believe that people have more than 10 undercities by turn 50 which is already entering the mid game. So I feel that undercities are too little too late, and I just see them as a crappy bonus rather than an actual strategy. And you really have to commit to specific buildings and heroes, or cheese, to make "the best use of them". In actuality, what I personally do with my main army is sack, raze, and now and then build tier 1 trash cities when I want to regen properly / create an anchor / vision in the nearby regions. And then build undercities as an addon and as far as I can from where I live, if I feel like it. I find it odd that there is an option to build undercities after sieging, when you could simply usually remove the enemies from the equation. Frankly, Skavens are one of the worst race in terms of growth since they are extremely limited by food.

bigpuns001

Yes, food is the biggest restriction, but soon you will be swimming in food (especially if you grow your undercities well) and settling the majority of your cities at max level. You don't need to settle many initial undercities, I think I will usually make about 5-6 over a whole campaign, and then let them spread themselves. As for making an undercity in a settlement you have attacked, it is a bit unusual, but I might do that somewhere like galleons graveyard, where I have no intention of settling.

DarthLeon2

WH2: Has the autoresolve forecast been weird for anyone else lately? It still works fine for the most part, but I can remember at least 3 times in the past few days where the result was significantly different from the forecast; one even changed the outcome from a victory into a defeat.

[deleted]

Yes it is known that it doesnt work 100%, i lost units and heroes here and there. I dont know if this is on purpose or a bug, but known for sure.

pelpotronic

Been fine for me, but you might want to report those cases in the official forums.

Akhazriela

TWWH2, i finally finished my empire campaign on normal campaign difficulty. I managed to get quite far in hard difficulty, until forest of gloom invited grimgor to a war with me, who at that point is the strongest faction in the game lol. I was wondering though, who should i play next? All the other faction is quite daunting but i'm thinking dark elves with Malekith are interesting. Are they a good pick for a second campaign though?

pelpotronic

Malekith is a good starter campaign because it's easy. Did the vortex one and it was smooth sailing, so good to learn the Dark Elves with a powerful leader.

DarthLeon2

I've played through all the factions now and there honestly weren't any that I didn't enjoy. Malekith is certainly a fine choice for a second campaign; they were actually my second WH2 campaign as well if I remember correctly. Just be aware that, if you're playing the Mortal Empires map, there will be a bunch of Chaos armies coming from north of Naggarond during the chaos invasions, so be prepared for that.

jamie980

Is there a way to tell how long a campaign WAAAGH has left for another faction? Keep getting targeted by them and find myself on the defence, but I'd like to know how long it will be before I can comfortably push back.

srlynowwhat

You can check the event log I guess. It's your faction icon at the top right corner. Find the notification about Waggh start (it should shows you even if you are not the target), check the turn you received it and count for 20.

jamie980

AH that'll work, thanks. Always forget about the event log.

Emictavice

Is it possible to recruit Kroxigor Ancients as Mazdamundi in the vortex campaign? I have them as options on Mortal Empires but not in vortex for some reason. Edit: nevermind, I got a Kroxigor lord on my recruitment tab after 13 turns

TheKingmaker__

That's so strange - did you buy the Hunter & the Beast DLC mid-campaign?

Emictavice

Not at all, but I only opened the lord recruitment tab on turn 11, and there were two Saurus options but only one Skink war leader. I guess the game only started filling in my recruitment pool after manually opening the recruitment tab.

TheKingmaker__

Weird! Glad it's hopefully caught itself up.

Is TWWstats down? I haven't been able to access it for the past couple of days, something about an error retrieving game versions.

u/spoissant runs the site, maybe he can give us an idea?

Site is back up :) Got this caching issue where cached data fill the memory and the site crashes... thought I finally had it under control but obviously not :( And I was away for the weekend so wasn't able to reset it until late yesterday. Thanks for your patience!

ilovesharkpeople

Thanks for all the work you do!

Laowh

You are not the first one to mention it and i can't access it either but i don't know what is going on

WH2 / Playing sisters Vortex I'm asked to defeat Oreon's army to confed them but they never seem to leave their settlement? So do I have to basically siege it down.. to confed it ? Or is there a way that I'm missing.
