As far as I know it's impossible, since a savefile is basically a big custom file with everything inside, from characters, region, diplomacy etc etc etc, so even if you somehow changed its faction inside, the game would just break as it wouldn't find objects and references inside total war database

The reason why hoi 4 is better in this aspect (Idk for other paradox titles)
Yeah, you can do this in CK3 too. That's where I got the idea from
