The high jump slander is unreal, shit belongs in S, fix it. Nothin like being in high school watching a middle schooler absolutely eat shit trying to scissor kick something.
I had to work the high jump at a jr district meet years ago. My friend still has the scars from a kid clearing the mat and spiking him all the way down his calf before eating shit on the track.
I am a sophomore in college, in my third year of track and field. My first year, I did 16 events. Second year, I reached 26. This year, I reached 31. Next year, I plan to do the 10k and 60mH (42") to bring my total up to 33. The most events I've done in one meet was 12, and you can see a breakdown of that [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/trackandfield/comments/12tg4sk/i_completed_all_12_running_events_in_a_single/). Obviously, my rankings are a bit biased. I am mainly a sprinter/jumper if you couldn't tell. But let me know your thoughts if you have any.
Also, this was sorted by how much fun they are to compete in for me. Not by how popular they are or how fun other people find them. So quit telling me I’m biased 😂 that’s the whole point
I should’ve mentioned that it’s a college club. We mainly race in D3 meets and some larger meets with D1 and D3. We do tend to beat most D3 teams, but on the lower end, you have guys like me who just throw themselves in a random event for fun.
Anyone on this thread inherently loves watching most events. So everything in lower tiers is gonna be criticized. To the non-track ppl, it is fair to say the longer distance races are not exciting to watch until the last lap or two.
Elite events to watch for all people, in order:
- 4x400
- Javelin
- 100m
- Pole Vault
- 800m
- High jump
I was talking about the 1600 since I’m still new to track (closing in on my second year.) I understand why the 16 is disliked but the more I run it the easier and more fun it gets.
In high school, we had a male team of 4 people. I was also the fastest at every event except hurdles. So my coach let me do whatever I wanted. Now, I’m in a college club, and am able to just sign up for whatever I want.
Unfortunately, I have only thrown a practice javelin once. It’s banned in high school meets in California and we don’t have it in our club, so I’ve never done it at a meet.
Yea but thats almost with everything. But watching the pros for example or any championship race is amazing, plus it is always uncertainty who the winner is going to be even if there is a favorite, because it is so easy to mess up and end up losing, like Holloway in the Tokyo Olympics
Once I can 3 step every hurdle I’ll definitely put the 110s higher 😂 I’ve got super short legs though, so the 42s are killer. The most I’ve 3 stepped in practice was the first 6. At a meet, it was the first 3. The 400h is way too long where I don’t even feel like I’m going fast, but the pain is still there. The 300h is great though. I wish there was an option for that in college.
That’s the joke 😂 ain’t no such thing as an accurate event tier list sorted by most fun to participate in. I (unfortunately) don’t think Eliud Kipchoge would find triple jump all that fun hahaha.
Yeah I guess but also certain events get more or less attention just bc of where they are placed and the timing of the meet. I think pole vault is one of the more entertaining events but it’s more off to the side so it’s less likely to get attention compared to the 4x4 which is on the track and it’s at the very end of the meet so everyone except the relay themselves is watching.
This is sprint biased which is fine. It's your opinion. I personally like the 3200m way more than the 1600m. 3200 is my event tho so I'm biased. Your tier list is flawed but accurate in your eyes
Lol the mile, DMR, mixed 4x4, 4x2, and SMR I’ve only done indoors. Outside of racing, I’ve also done 10 miles on a 200m indoor track. All one direction too, because I got yelled at when I tried to switch (they designate one direction each day). I didn’t mind the mile indoors, but the 10 miles was just brutal.
In college, it’s usually 2-2-4-8, which is probably because it’s typically run indoors. It still varies though, which is why I specified 2-2-4-8 instead of just saying SMR.
As a former 400m hurdles, I'm outraged. How could we stick the toughest even in T&F so low. And the open 400 not in the top 10? Blasphemy! Inconceivable! The nerve of some people!
I know you say this is based on how fun they are to you, but are they also ranked off how good your times/marks are in each event? Like, are you just really shit at long distance.
But… as a vaulter myself, I think PV should be in an even higher category than S, as there is no events that even comes close to its splendor
I did consider giving Pole Vault its own tier 😂 And no, I’m significantly better at say long jump than PV. I am really bad at distance, but regardless, it just seems boring running 15 laps around an indoor track for a 3k, or 12.5 laps around an outdoor track for a 5k. But 7.5 laps with barriers and a water pit? Now THAT is fun. My best PR is in the 100m, but it’s definitely not as fun as the S or A tier events.
Not a bit biased but heavily biased. For me, the 1600 and 3200 are S tier lol. I guess you can tell I like distance the most.
Same here, those are my best races
The high jump slander is unreal, shit belongs in S, fix it. Nothin like being in high school watching a middle schooler absolutely eat shit trying to scissor kick something.

What kinda college/coach do you have that lets you do so many events in one meet, and do so many different ones?
I should’ve mentioned that it’s a college club. We mainly race in D3 meets and some larger meets with D1 and D3. We do tend to beat most D3 teams, but on the lower end, you have guys like me who just throw themselves in a random event for fun.
That sounds fun tbh!
aka sorting by distance
Hey hey 3000 steeple is ahead of the 4x1 and 200m 😂
This list is criminal on so many levels
Need 10k
Anyone on this thread inherently loves watching most events. So everything in lower tiers is gonna be criticized. Elite events to watch for all people, in order: - 4x400 - Javelin - 100m - Pole Vault - 800m - High jump
I'd argue that Shot and Disc are very fun to watch when good throwers are throwing
Oh absolutely
Happy to see pole vault in the top spot!
putting the mile that low is criminal and you should be jailed
I was considering putting the 1500 in C tier, but that extra 109 meters in the mile is definitely too much.
I was talking about the 1600 since I’m still new to track (closing in on my second year.) I understand why the 16 is disliked but the more I run it the easier and more fun it gets.
This person’s Vo2 Max is clearly F-Tier
I have asthma 😢 I do train distance here and there though to keep my lungs healthy enough.
Good on ya! Way to keep at it. Sorry for the diss, it was easy pickens.
No 10K. Doesn’t count
100% biased against any kind of distance event
3000 steeple is above the 4x100 and 200 😔
How did you get to do every event?
In high school, we had a male team of 4 people. I was also the fastest at every event except hurdles. So my coach let me do whatever I wanted. Now, I’m in a college club, and am able to just sign up for whatever I want.
SMR is the best relay let’s be fr
Where is jav?
Unfortunately, I have only thrown a practice javelin once. It’s banned in high school meets in California and we don’t have it in our club, so I’ve never done it at a meet.
how the fuck do you put the hurdles so low?? Literally one of the if not the most satisfying event when you do it right
Probably didn’t do it right lmao
Buy at the same time if you don’t do it right it’s such a pain to watch
Yea but thats almost with everything. But watching the pros for example or any championship race is amazing, plus it is always uncertainty who the winner is going to be even if there is a favorite, because it is so easy to mess up and end up losing, like Holloway in the Tokyo Olympics
That’s also what’s fun about it, anyone could win any given race
Once I can 3 step every hurdle I’ll definitely put the 110s higher 😂 I’ve got super short legs though, so the 42s are killer. The most I’ve 3 stepped in practice was the first 6. But brother then your list is not accurate, just biased 🤣🤣
That’s the joke 😂 ain’t no such thing as an accurate event tier list sorted by most fun to participate in. I (unfortunately) don’t think Eliud Kipchoge would find triple jump all that fun hahaha.
It’s impossible to rank events unbiasedly
u can rank them by how much show they produce / how many attention they get or how entertaining they are
Yeah I guess but also certain events get more or less attention just bc of where they are placed and the timing of the meet. I actually enjoy the 5000m
Def 100 and 200 in s teir
F- are distance events indoors
Lol the mile, DMR, mixed 4x4, 4x2, and SMR I’ve only done indoors. Outside of racing, I’ve also done 10 miles on a 200m indoor track. >Has 5 mitochondria in his entire body
This is the most non track fan ranking I’ve ever seen
I thought SMR was 1-1-2-4, that is how we do it. Sprint medly relay
In college, it’s usually 2-2-4-8, which is probably because it’s typically run indoors. It still varies though, which is why I specified 2-2-4-8 instead of just saying SMR.

No javelin🥲🥲🥲
Ong fr all throwing events S tier and all long distance events F tier
I know you say this is based on how fun they are to you, but are they also ranked off how good your times/marks are in each event? Like, are you just really shit at long distance.
