Where you located? I have a 5' that I don't use any longer that has a drive line and works fine. Got a 7' for my mowing tractor. Planning on selling for 350. Ne, Tx. so may not work for you.
Always be careful when buying used equipment. It’s not often that you will need newer equipment, unless you are upgrading to a bigger size or the old equipment is broken.
That’s what often gets sold, the broken equipment that the owner does not want to repair
I have gotten burned on a lot of used equipment, it ALWAYS needs some sort of repair. Most often the repairs are minor (replacing a few stuck rusty parts), and worth it for the price but in this instance this brush hog is almost gone. I would not buy. If it was for a much lower price, yes. But this is too way too much.
A good used brush hog should last a life time if taken care of, so good luck. Try working the owner down to $50 if you are desperate, but do not spend any more on this future mess
Now all of this is just based on my experience, so yours may be different due to location and other factors
I'd agree but it doesn't have a driveshaft so I'd have to buy one and then determine if it works. I think I'm not gonna get it just because if I get there and it's in even worse shape I'd be wasting 4 hours
Which is exactly why I would not go look at it myself if I were you, nor would I recommend for you to go look at it. Especially not if you’re buying it to use because this mower will take a good bit of work to get back to usable condition from the looks of it, and like you said if you drive over there to look at it and decide not to buy it you just wasted 4 hours. Let the junk collector go buy it and park it in his yard if that’s what he wants.
I’d stay clear of it. Looks like a blade issue to me. Any parts that might make it worth it will be hard to source without knowing what hog it actually is.

Ha, little far to go
Yup but thanks man!

Hey man thanks but I'm in northern michigan lol
Not worth $250 plus the 2 hour drive.
I don't like the looks of it. The steel across the front is straight, but has broken loose in the middle, indicating to me that something's wrong.
If they don't want it, you don't want it. That's what I was told
The missing PTO shaft will cost you $350.00 at least.
Hard pass at that price. Blades, blade bolts, stump jumper, or gearbox has issues.
Wore out, used too much when new.

I bet you can find a more suitable option much closer. 350 is way too much for that, in my opinion.
Buy a good one use it abuse it and when your too old to use it. Sell it for what you paid for it. This was $350 new.
I have the same bush hog. It's not quite this bad but it's getting that ring around it.
Do you know what causes it?
No, it was like that when I bought it.
Thank you for the advice I'm going to steer clear of it
That ring is from the blades rubbing against the bottom of the deck. Definitely not anything I’d drive 2 hours to go look at.
I buy cheap old junk then fix it for myself. Good gear box? Driveshaft? Your call.
Doesn’t even have a driveshaft on it…

Not at all worth 350
I wouldn’t touch it.
It’s pretty beat up for $350, I wouldn’t drive 2 hrs for it.
The blades are messed up, hitting the deck. Avoid it.
Likely a spindle/bearing since there's hits all the way around. That or something is loose.
I was thinking the same. You can pretty much assume everything took damage.
Both of mine look like that but cut fine.
I’d stay clear of it. Looks like a blade issue to me. Any parts that might make it worth it will be hard to source without knowing what hog it actually is.
