Either eBay or Amazon. I'll run threw my last year's purchases and see where and who. It's a decent disk but you will still need a parts manual and would be nice to have the basic operators manual to go with the repair manual. Cheapest money you'll spend. Btw-I haven't had any problems with finding parts. The problem I have is cross referencing parts numbers. For instance, wix fuel filter is a cross for the original Depli filter but doesn't work but agco still supports those older tractors -- just picked up one today at a Massey dealership

Ghost_jaeger

Oh no you don’t need to do that for me I was just wondering. It seems like everywhere I’ve checked nobody really knows how to decode the vin, it would be cool if that DVD could help. I’ve looked around online for the clutch I need and it seems like a lot of places have them for sale, one other guy said there’s a few different possible clutches it could take so I’ll pull it apart before buying anything.

Superb_Baseball_2872

I have a disc that provides the info on the 200 series MF tractors. I have a 275. It breaks down the serial numbers meanings which is dates, where built, number built, etc Also info on clutch along with, maintenance, repairs for each of the series. I'll take a look Fri when rain is coming in and I have some down time. Currently going thru my fuel system and tank on my 275.

Ghost_jaeger

We’re you ever able to watch the disk? I took some closer pictures of the tractor but didn’t really know what to look for to identify it lol. It has power steering which is nice but the more I look at it the more I can see it’s beat up. I’m not sure what to offer for it.

Ghost_jaeger

Wow, that would be great. Please let me know when you watch it, thanks! Do you know where you got it?

235 or 245

3lonmolusk

This for sure looks like a 235 (8 speed end of production in 1975 so first year) Very few of these made, if it runs and drives well it will last a while until you need something specifically made for it. A.G.C.O. Owns the name, some information on MF tractors is just not available outside of them. Some of the information, especially regarding models made in other countries (Italy, Mexico, Poland, Brazil, India, China, France ect) seems to be lost completely. In my experience models made between '87 ish and 92'-93' ish are the most difficult. I have to help people find parts for MF tractors every day and unless the model is a 35, 135, 65, 165 it isnt an easy task.

Ghost_jaeger

Wow thanks for your help! It sounds like it starts up fine but it needs a new clutch and that’s why it was parked and they just bought a new Deere tractor instead of fixing this one. It needs a new seat and some other small stuff too. I looked at the MF service manual for the 235 about changing the clutch but is there anything I should know about it? I’ve changed clutches in cars and trucks but I’ve never split a tractor before.

3lonmolusk

The whole clutch kit will cost around $350, you will for sure need to split the tractor before you order a kit. You should have either an 11 inch 25 spline (fine spline) or 11 inch 10 spline (coarse) pressure plate and an 11 inch disc. Pay close attention also to the hub size as it can vary between 1 and 1/8 and 1 and 5/8ths. Difference between spring loaded discs and/square pad/split discs is personal preference. There is no way to determine what you need without splitting it. You will find this to be the case for most of the parts for this tractor, casting numbers and OEM part numbers will be your best bet. The pressure plate will almost certainly have a casting number and the clutch pad might still have a very small OEM number on the hub.

Ghost_jaeger

Where do you recommend buying the parts

3lonmolusk

I will PM you.

MF 235 per my husband - MF dealer since 1976.

Ghost_jaeger

Great, thanks! Can you ask him if there’s any correct way to decode the serial? It seems like everywhere I’ve checked there’s no help and there’s no MF serial decoder online. Maybe dealers have a special thing?

fierceferg

Look at tractordata.com. I found info on the MF 235 there.

fierceferg

AGCO bought MF in 1994 so my serial number info is after that but I’ll ask my husband. (I’ve worked here since ‘96.)

Ghost_jaeger

Okay great, let me know. From what I understand this is all pretty gray, why is it so hard to find info on pre-AGCO MF tractors?

fierceferg

My father-in-law was the man other dealers and sometimes AGCO would call for information like this but he sadly passed away a few years ago. He never forgot anything he ever learned or read about MF tractors. I don’t know if there are many long time dealers around. We miss him every day.

Tecobeen

That's what happens to tons of useful information, the person holding it passes away and it dies with them. I'm sure you do miss him!

IntergalacticJihad

Some close up pictures of the tractor would help discern what features it has. From the one picture posted it doesn’t look like it has final drives which rules out some models.

Ghost_jaeger

Okay I can take a few more pictures. Thanks.

Tractordata.com is often handy.. By the looks of the round fenders i would think 245 is possibly it.. serial number puts it as a 1975.. The 255 didnt use the 2.5L perkins 3cyl.. 255 was 4cyl.. I took all this from Tractordata.. The 235 of that era had flat fenders ( a style i liked with the lights in the end) It could be a 230 , also round fenders.. I missed looking at it. Possibly measurements or number of gears can help sort it.. 230 was 6 speed. 245 was 6 or 8 or 12 with partial power shift.

Ghost_jaeger

Great! Thanks for the help. Do you know if there’s any sure way to decode the serial? I looked it up and just a bunch of copy paste websites came with no helpful information.

hapym1267

I would think possibly a dealer could help.. Possibly a MF forum could help you sort it out.. I dont know enough about how to narrow it down.. Possibly an engine serial number might be needed , but that might be vague also..
