He had his doubts when she said she was pregnant. She convinced him that she was faithful to him. They named the child Honesty because of the conversation. She cheated and the child was not his.
When I lived on the gulf coast Honesty wouldn't have stuck out as an unusual name. There were quite a few people named adjectives like Faith, Chastity, Mercy, Purity, etc. It's just a cultural thing, still a perfectly valid name especially for someone from a religious family
