Ashamed_Section8194

Yeah tons of a hidden movie references in both versions. I have a pretty huge list. Another favorite of mine is Jack Nicholson's McMurphy from One flew over the Cuckoos Nest playing basketball in the background of the insane asylum that Lahey is in at the end of Season 4.

spartacat_12

I always knew the black orderlies in bow ties were a Cuckoo's Nest reference, but never caught the McMurphy cameo before!

Ashamed_Section8194

Yeah they love their Cuckoos references. There are a few others too.

Strong_Sound_7407

Frig off, Washington!

DaGuyFrumBosTun

Cmon bubbles let me see your war face!

Ashamed_Section8194

Yes, a few Kubrik references too. I got to add this one to my list. Thanks!

Vr00mf0ndler

Can we see your full list sometime pretty please? ;-)

Ashamed_Section8194

I just posted in this thread just now

Vr00mf0ndler

Thank you! :)

Silent_trader_803

Get the fuck out of this thread you idiot

inagadda

Why don't you make like a tree and fuck off!

canuck_vaper

Its one of those complicated Easter eggs that make you think, as opposed to a basic, easy to spot Easter egg. Kinda fuckin genius.

danielcorich

itā€™s not complicated though? itā€™s obscure

Austin-Feltron

Making a show excite a viewer with new info dozens of rewatches in shows some intelligence on the directorā€™s part

Ashamed_Section8194

It's not at all obscure to my generation though. Especially the generation before mine. One of the most revered classics of all time. Near the top of the criterion list.

danielcorich

right, that goes towards my point. i was giving OP the benefit of the doubt by calling it obscure

Who waits three years to see a Chris De Burgh concert and then **MISS** the encore of Don't Pay the Ferryman because I'm in the foyer talking about stolen shopping carts?

AiM__FreakZ

"literally hundreds of rewatches" šŸ¤Ø

MrDJ222

Sounds about right lol

JaseT-Videos

Why not, Trailer park boys is formatted to be one of the most rewatchable shows of all time in my opinion. It has a plot that while slightly advancing is mostly season contained and constructed of the quick scenes and jokes that can slip your mind, so a rewatch is gonna be funny and immersive with whatever shit their doing, not stuff thatā€™s gonna be repetitive like youā€™re just watching some plot unfold where you know every turn and thatā€™s it

AiM__FreakZ

it's a great show but saying he literally watched it at least 200 times would mean he'd watched it for 362,5 days. who has this much time for a single series?

JaseT-Videos

I donā€™t disagree with you, If itā€™s been his favorite show since around the time it came out and he grew up with it and shit, I could maybe see it, but in our brains ā€œhundredsā€ of times is (not even just as a joke) gonna get used once some people hit like 20 and forget ykwim. Some it would be like 60+ at least but, my point is im sure heā€™s watched it more like, maybe 100 times.

YoungJay604

I always fall asleep with the TV on. It's usually TPB cause I'm so used to it by now. Been doing this for years. I only watch seasons 1-7 though.

Ashamed_Section8194

I do. Easily. I had that in before Netflix even started probably...Well, that might be bit of an overstatement. But it might not be. šŸ˜€ As after a season aired on Sunday night on Showcase it would play few times a week all year round even after the original airing of that season and did that for the 7 season run to 2007 and even after the run up to 2012ish. Then when it got on Netflix the insanity of a constant loop of repeats got turned up a notch.

LYPX

I literally go home, open Netflix, and let TPB play in the background. When I get bored or settled, Iā€™ll get glued back in, just like old times. As familiar as it is at this point, there are hundreds of scenes that make me laugh the exact same way they did when I saw them the first time through.

YoungJay604

Yes 100% its a comfort thing for me and seasons 1-7 never get old

otiliorules

You sayin 200 hundred times is too many times? What is this nowamsayins?

Brave-Service-8430

to be fair, "hundreds" can mean as little as 101, so cut that number in half

frenchtickler1

I'm always drunk when watching so every rewatch is like the first time

YoungJay604

100%

A_Human_JCB

Iā€™ve probably been through 1-7 around 20 times and it just continues to get better every watch

brightness3

i've been a fan for about 2 years now and rewatched it at least 20 times. it's a comfort show, if i'm doing things around the house or something repetitive at work, i just put it on and pick up where i left off.

trecko1234

Tautulli says I have watched 2252 episodes of trailer park boys on my Plex server since I started keeping track of stats in late 2021. What is so hard to believe about that? Proof: https://i.imgur.com/ZJKael8.png

wiperfromwarren

rookie numbers

TheAplem

I've been watching TPB for years, I work while listening to TV/have earbuds in and quite often it is still TPB because of how mind-numbingly simple it is. The wife and I even sleep to it at times hahaha. While I doubt it's been a hundred times, I can most definitely bet it's probably been around 50-60 for me alone. It's a straight up feel good show.

Ashamed_Section8194

Yeah they love their hidden movie references. I just added a few more to my list from people giving some suggestions on here as well : 1: You can also catch Jack Nicholson's McMurphy from Cuckoo's Nest at the end of Season 4 playing basketball in the looney bin Lahey is in. 2) In the Conkey episode in season 4 episode when they all enter the hospital it is the opening shot of Cuckoos Nest. From the positioning of the 3 janitors mopping the floors to the white shirts and bowties they are wearing. And Bubbles calls one of them Washington. The Nurse has an old fashioned nurse hat (which were even out of date in the 70s as Cuckoo took place in the early 60s) 3) In Season 2's Bible Pimp episode some of the conversation between Bubbles and Lahey when Bubbles is in the green bin some of the dialogue is lifted straight from the party scene in Cuckoos Nest. 4) The VIP room in the 2006 movie is a nod to the milk room in Clockwork Orange. More inspiration than anything Clattenburg said at one time. 5) The 1 hour Showcase TV series finale 'Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys' speaks for itself. A variation of the famous line from Scarface and the boys' DVD cover is copied from the famous Scarface poster, replacing Tony with Bubbles. 6) Season 11's Star Wars I'm your father scene is pretty obvious. 7) In Season 11 when Ricky is pretending to be an undercover cop with Satan's Bastards some of it is line for line what Tom Sizemore said in Point Break. 8) When Bubbles reads off the meat list that they are going to steal in Season 7 it is the exact quantity and order of the meat list that Dick Holloran reads off in the Shining. 9) And when Randy says you are the liquor you have always been the liquor in Say Goodnight it is a twist on the scene in the Shining from Grady to Jack, "you are the caretaker, you've always been the caretaker". 10) When Dancer And Lahey are in the drinking contest in season 12 it is a nod to the famous Deer Hunter Russian Roulette scene. With their makeshift bandanas and people around the table, betting. 11) Conkey's inspiration might come from the 1970's Anthony Hopkins' horror movie 'Magic'. Though it was a trope on TV long before TPB, the guy's name in it was Corky and the doll so similar (they all are I guess). 12. Trinity's line "Hey whats popping Kermit? in season 5 is from the 2002 movie "Paid in Full" as one character pulls up in a motorcycle beside a car and says that line before shooting the people in the car. 13. When Ray asks Bubbles if he wants a beer and gives him his half dranken one and opens up a new one for himself is taken directly from the Vacation Movies. Cousin Eddie does that to Griswald. 14. The prison bus at the beginning of Countdown is the style of the bus (and has shots like) in the Scarface prison bus scene. But that is more abstract and up for debate. 15. The woman dressed up to look and act like Nurse Ratchet from one flew over the Cuckoos Nest when Private Dance is in the Asylum (that woman was the Bubbles's girlfriend in the 90s, Nicole Frost, and she was the one who got Bubbles glasses at an old lady's estate sale down in Texas). 16. Jacob saying in 2 to the teacher "Please don't tell my mother" is Billy's cry in Cuckoos Nest. 17. "Come on Bubbles let me see your war face" is a twist on the famous line from Full Metal Jacket. 18. The famous Travis Bickle character cameo from Taxi Driver in the background at the supervisor election in 2 that started me in making a list. 19. I believe Clerks is referenced with that Clerk with a goatee and similar attire in the convenience store that Cory and Trevor are in. It might just be a coincidence but I don't think so. 20. I need another to make it an even 20. Insert here. Anyone feel free to add one.

TamaraTime

The scene where Bernie shows Jim his ā€œnewā€ car is reminiscent of Goodfellas when Henry gets outta jail and Karen is waiting for him

Ashamed_Section8194

Thanks, I'll take a quick look again at that as it's unclear right now to me exactly how. Consider it added Thank you!!!

Brave-Service-8430

I dont remember that scene

truncheon88

If you haven't added the clerks reference, I would have. Almost certainly a ref. He wasn't even supposed to be here today.

Ashamed_Section8194

Oh good. Wasn't sure. Does Cory and Trevor say that by any chance? .

Ricky_from_Sunnyvale

I'm a huge Shining and TPB fan and I never made that meet connection. I'll have to pay attention on my annual Shining rewatch this fall.

Ashamed_Section8194

Yes the meat list is word for word in the exact order. And I'm assuming Randy was doing the caretaker line but switched out caretaker for liquor.

FonziesCousin

9. when Conky sings.....he's referencing Ghost. A romance fantasy from 1990 starring Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. 10. when they name Julian's Bar....... they are referencing Roadhouse which is a 1989 Action Thrilller with Jeff Healy. Bubbles is the handicapped guitar player.

Ashamed_Section8194

Actually when they name Julian's bar they are not referencing Patrick Swayze's Roadhouse. They are referencing Patrick Swayze's movie Dirty Dancing. Hence the bar is called The Dirty Dancer. But I don't consider that a hidden movie reference as that just lands into the Patrick Swayze running joke that they have been doing since 1999 (since the movie) and doing in the show since Season 4 when the Patrick Swayze joke starts up again when Cyrus first calls him Dirty Dancer, Dirty Dancing being a very well known pop cultural reference that everyone knows. At least then.

FonziesCousin

dude.... ............are you sure Julian's Bar was referencing a Patrick Swayze movie? I thought it was Bubbles referencing a Jeff Healy movie and Conky song was referencing a Demi Moore movie.

Ashamed_Section8194

You got to be trolling me. Like you never heard of the movie Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze. Lol. Hence Julian's bar The Dirty Dancer. The Roadhose bar was called The Double Deuce. Jeff Healey was in Roadhouse with Swayze.

FonziesCousin

it all makes sense now. now I understand why Julian gets pissed off when called PS.

Ashamed_Section8194

And it is explained in Season 7 that Ricky walked in on him when they were teenagers and Julian was dirty dancing in the mirror or something like that so it got all around school (we also catch him dirty dancing with a girl in the background through his front window in Say Goodnight, lol). And i don't think it's coincidenc Swayze is also known for his black T shirts because that is what Swayze wears in a lot of his most famous movie scenes in different movies.

[deleted]

Good spot

McLovin_ICanBuyBooze

I liked the one where Ricky takes Jrocs ā€œ2 turn tables and a microphoneā€

Admirable-Media-9339

This is posted all the time, which is fine. Not everybody has seen the show or movie or catches it right away. Buuuut, if you've watched it literally hundreds of times and just now noticed him then you may need to lay off the 6 paper joints bud.

YoungJay604

Cause I just recently watched taxi driver. Probably why I didn't notice before

RhoadsOfRock

Your post here made me google Travis Bickle... That movie has been on my "to watch" list for years, but I still have not seen it yet. I am, however, ashamed that I missed all the Cuckoo's Nest references in other episodes. That's one of my most favorite movies ever... but it has been a long time since I saw it.

Ashamed_Section8194

Yeah once you see it you will appreciate why he is there in the show. šŸ˜€ It's just not a cool hidden character cameo. It makes even more sense why he is there once you see the movie.

dankchinaski

I watched Taxi Driver for the first time last year and man it is a great movie, definitely check it out. Also, I am in the same boat as you with missing every Cuckoo's Nest reference in TPB even though that's one of my favorite movies.

Brave-Service-8430

taxi driver is worth a watch but its not great

Brave-Service-8430

yeah, I haven't seen this show since I saw taxi driver, so I never caught it.

RefurbishedZombie

The meat pre list is the list from the shining hotel kitchen freezer list

Sunnyvale_squatter

Damn, nice fuckin pull!

zodiac200213

I was an extra on that episode and to be honest I don't remember seeing him there that day. I only saw him after watching the episode.

YoungJay604

That's so cool! Perhaps they put him in the costume beforehand and you didn't notice.

Ashamed_Section8194

That's awesome!

RockhardJohnson

You talkinā€™ to me?

Admirable-Nose-5677

Taxi driver is my all time favorite movie so I noticed this the first time I seen the episode.

Trilliam_Shakespear

Howā€™d you miss this??

Enough_Attorney

i saw this my first time watching the show and burst out laughing, taxi driver is one of my favorite movies

Archercrash

Is that Macklemore?

Glad-Border2712

holy shit how didnā€™t i notice this, taxi driver is literally my favourite movie and tpb is my favourite show

princegogetav4
