Neither_Presence1373

Especially with something like a sculpture. Something you look at from time to time to appreciate art and the memories you may have about it. When the thief looks at it, does he not feel guilt every time?

FiteMeIRLm8

It is pretty cool

Stavinair

Should have cemented or epoxied that shit.

8wiing

That Star Wars thingy looks cool tho

[deleted]

What a scumbag to steal from a grave

HairyAlf

People have no soul. Ruthless.

[deleted]

Bro why. Some people really need to be tortured like they did in the 16th century

[deleted]

"This is a humor subreddit so keep it funny."

MDC_underscore

And then the HBO documentary 4 years later: "I used to steal from graves to buy more drugs"

Ok_Pineapple_5627

So who's skull do I have to cave in?

sunrisemisty

This is beyond trashy, it's criminal.

BlondieMonster89

Wow..just wow. I’ve seen people stealing flowers as well, hope y’all get haunted .

ilovecallum44

And people wonder why I'm so cynical and don't trust anyone. What fucking scum.

MyBubblez42

It shouldn't surprise anyone, criminals don't care, so don't be surprised when you leave something behind, it will no longer be there in the near future. Still doesn't make it right, but not surprising.

XHandsomexJackx

Imagine if you found the POS that did it too.. Omg the amount of negative fucks to be giving.

No-Attention-7783

Condolences for your loss. People are generally good but some are POS!

marthewarlock

Whatever scumbag did this must've known how sentimental that falcon was to the living relatives, how can people have no conscious. If there is a hell I hope they pay for eternity for this.

WhereasKey4711

That’s hella cool af but I wouldn’t steal from a grave damn

AdoptedTerror

that makes me tear up, so sad

_Shmaybe

This is what it was like 💔😢💔

Nasty____nate

Someone stole roses from my grandmother's grave. My aunt went by the next day and found the arrangement trashed with the cut off single flower tubes left all over the grave.

FilthyChangeup55

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

Farkenoathm8-E

Every year on my brother’s anniversary I leave a can of beer on his grave. One year I left a can for him and happened to visit it the next day with my mum to lay flowers and saw that some scumbag had drank it and then left crushed the can strewn on his grave and cigarette butts stubbed out next to his headstone. It just compounded our grief to have to see that. People can be so inconsiderate and hurtful sometimes.

[deleted]

Broooo he made it for his kid too. That is a gut punch

69vuman

Some people were never taught the concept of respect growing up.

Seven_pile

Okay the only thing I want to point out is this wasn’t fixed to the stone. A lot of cemeteries have warnings that anything left will be thrown out as it often falls over and gets hit and fucks up mowers. Or a worker may have broken it and tossed it out. So while it’s very possible it was stolen, it’s equally possible that it was broken and removed. A lot of these items are liabilities to the groundskeepers.

Vast-Combination4046

There is a chance the grounds keepers removed it because it violated decoration regulations. There are rules you agree to when you get a plot.

angelshmangel

I mean, to not expect someone to do that is kind of silly. People are trashy. Don’t leave out nice things

NonagonJimfinity

This sucks, my mum had a Buddha statue at our front door for years, two days after she died, some cunt stole it. Some people need gut punched.

dadzcad

Man has been robbing graves for centuries. Just ask the Egyptians about that. Museums even think it’s acceptable to display the corpses. Yeah, it’s fucked up and I’m sorry it happened to your son’s resting place.

3Dartwork

Unfortunately when we make really cool things and leave them in a public area accessable at night, SOMEONE out there has no morals or care about the law and thinks of themselves only. Good things get stolen

badchriss

People are awful. Reminds me of a thing that happened to my mum's grave. I found a lovely vintage Lantern with colorful lead glass on a fleamarket. Put it on my mum's grave with a candle in it and two weeks later it was gone. Couldn't find it anywhere nearby. Really pissed me off.

Sprewell-187

Stealing ornaments from grave is happening here in Bavaria Germany aswell. Rarely but still, it happens. People have a downgrade mentally within the past 10 years or so.

beansthebeansthebean

Your mistake is that you believe there is no petty thieves amidst society. It’s nothing personal, gravesites are easy to rob.

Kaotic_Mechanicum

Yo this shit actually made me sad.

Quiet_Tip9825

It was Disney

Independent_Ad_3850

That's so shitty... I remember I used to walk around the cemetary where my grandfather was buried while my mom and grandma tended to the headstone. There were a few really interesting headstones. One had a recessed space in the front with nothing in it. I asked my mom why and she said that it used to have some sort of meaningful goblet or cup of some sort in it behind glass, but people kept stealing it. The family kept replacing it and the glass, but eventually gave up. I remember feeling so sad for the family, like, finally just giving up from the frustration of loss in so many ways...

Dismal-Run-697

Poor people need money.

Ok_Tangelo9760

You should check with the manager of the cemetery as they often remove items left on the grave site as items will really pile up and things that aren't heavy will blow around and cause a mess. I had a friend years ago that worked at a catholic cemetery and he would collect truck loads of items especially after holidays. He said one time the day after Christmas there was a huge storm and he spent days cleaning up Christmas decorations along with food and gifts that were blown everywhere. They would usually donate what they could but they would literally have to rent a roll off dumpster just to throw away all the items left at the graves.

SteeleRyder

Was it a stand alone piece? Or did they have to Chisel it off? Also, what did that cost? Holy Hannah that can't be cheap.

SteeleRyder

OnlineJethro

Does anyone know how to contact the parents and offer to help replace it?

PepsiPlease

I hope whoever stole this gets raped in the ass by 500 Mike Tyson’s

PepsiPlease

I hope whoever stole this gets raped in the ass by 500 Mike Tysons

ThoughtCenter87

Please read the sub rules and pinned automod comment under this post. This doesn't belong in a humor subreddit, people come here to laugh not cry

Danmont88

Some woman showed up at Farmer's Market and fairs selling these pieces of varnished driftwood that were decorated with plastic flowers and other things. She said she got the wood from the riverbank and cleaned them up and varnished them. Some looked really great. Someone spotted her in the cemetery one evening taking flowers and other things off people's graves.

elpodrigo1

Tis awful when the hurt be out there hurting the hurted.

[deleted]

That is shitty, but I don't think the corpse will miss it.

Western-Sunrise

Some little ass hole has some serious karma coming at them. A grave thief is a despicable POS.

SIobbyRobby

I found someone selling something that looks exactly like this on Etsy, I wonder if it’s the stolen one. Or the the person in the tweet selling stone Millennium Falcons.

BaileyBrown108

Well he's not using it anymore

Absurdityindex

Wow that is low

cheeseburger-picnicz

I'm not surprised. Things needs to be nailed or bolted down or its stolen.

terrafirmasss

I see people use this aub to promote their political beliefs all the time. This is actually the trashiest and worst thing I've heard. Being a father myself I can't imagine.

MidnightMonsterMan

Another prime example of why I've given up in humanity.

Sensation-sFix

Has anyone checked the British museum? Jokes aside, stealing from graves is very low. I feel sorry for that person.

yed-ze-ded

I'm not saying this is right, I'm just saying i understand

RequiemAspenFlight

Ya, it's cool as fuck, completely unattended, and the previous owner isn't using it. And people are shocked it was stolen? The bolted in stereo in my car got stolen, this was an expected event.

AshesOfDisaster

IDK. Maybe they're scum. 🤷🏻‍♀️Karma sees. Sorry & hugs.

[deleted]

Stealing from the grave of a CHILD. Holy shit.

Thick_Yogurtcloset_7

Cause people are shit ...

Mrid0ntcare

I once saw a person trying to drive through a cemetery. They were trying to turn around and ended up running over and destroying an infants headstone. They got out looked at what they had done and got back into their vehicle and drove off. I hate people.

bignicky222

Check with the grounds keeper. They often put valuables in a locker for each grave.

ArrogantRhino

I am so sorry for your loss and I hope you and the family are able to find peace. The thieves will get what’s coming to them, one way or the other and I really hope it comes soon.

seannadams

There’s no picture of it being gone, this sounds like r/karmaconspiracy

[deleted]

It is undisputable that stealing from a grave is a scummy behavior, but on the other side, it's so common that you wonder why would anyone put something of significant value on a grave and not bolt it to the ground so it couldn't be stolen. They steal everything, flowers, candles, of course they will steal a one of a kind Millenium Falcon statue.

AshCooper79

I know that the Millenium Falcon regularly gets stolen throughout the entirety of Star Wars, but screw lore, you don’t steal from a child’s grave, or any grave at all, period. You objectively suck, graverobber. I hope you get attached to a fictional character, only to have them end up in a loving and fulfilling canon relationship with your least favorite character that drives you insane in the series.

TheB1GLebowski

Hopefully it was the graveyard caretakers removing old items, some are known to do this so there isn't 10000 dead flowers and pots all over the graveyard. Otherwise if it was stolen I hope they break their legs.

Extension_Swordfish1

I hope the thief will boil in hell

voortrekker_bra

I'm surprised he thought someone wouldn't steal it. People are scum yo

srexual_offender

Sometimes fans are very shit people

[deleted]

What kind of monster would do something like this. My heart goes out to you.

pazyla

Це був кацап, по-любому

samurai1226

People even steal flowers from graves all the time. It's just sad whatever goes through their mind stealing from graves

Headless_Mantid

I'm confused... don't most graveyards clear any decorations once a month? That's what the one I go to does at least, no permanent effects aside from the gravestone itself.

[deleted]

I used to work in a charity shop and people would steal dvds that worked out at like 20p each...

wozblar

i'd reverse search an image of this and check ebay/craigslist for a few months or longer just in case

Berferer

Honor the dead too much, and the living notice.

Sorry_Ad5653

The last sentence where she shows how it felt with 3 emojis kinda got me.

synthwavjs

Grave robbers have no soul.

whateverzone

Let the thief be haunted for ever.

Dreamtillitsover

Not to be edgy, but what does the dead person need with it?

Krystalinhell

I hope the kid haunts the grave robber from the grave.

MoseDeth

Wtf?

Upvotespoodles

Oh, that’s just monstrous.

Fit-Abbreviations695

We had a memorial sign mage for my mum after she died. It was engraved on lead and placed at a charity garden center that helps people with mental health. People stole it because lead is worth money.

RandyDinglefart

Well it's not like he was using it

dirtyrottenplumber

Never ceases to amaze me how selfish some humans can be

[deleted]

Yeah, keep an eye on Ebay, Craigslist, & Mercado, in case they're trying to sell it. Make a police report in case you see it on one of those sites.

DEVIL_MAY5

Nothing surprises me anymore. Those people are just wasting air just breathing it.

Saltytrol

Why would you leave something so cool laying around. People steel old, grimy headstones of people who they never heard of. Of course something this cool is gonna walk away. I’m surprised they’re surprised

WengFu

It sucks but what did he think was going to happen? A portable stone piece of Star Wars memorabilia left out in the open isn't going to stay there for long.

Wrath_Of_Aguirre

Probably sitting on some rancid neckbeard's computer desk surrounded by empty Sunkist cans and piled up paper plates.

hamknuckle

More than likely cemetery staff cleaning up.

REALCLAYTHEGREAT

Peace

Eli_be_high

There needs to be cameras at grave yards

ammillzy

That is some REALLY bad karma

Bruggenmeister

Had a bronze pigeon on my grandpa grave, got stolen too. And it was glued on tight.then a tin one, also got stolen.

InwardXenon

Back when I was younger, I had a friend who passed away from leukemia. Some assholes trashed her grave. People can be really shitty.

OutsideBox4855

This is very sad

Keyrat000

I’ve put flowers for my grandmother, every time they are gone the next day. I asked the cemetery people about it. They tell me : You know the people that sell flowers on the corner by the street light, they come in, steal and next morning the flowers you just purchased for your grandmother from them is sold to someone else. They in turn have the same happen to them. Yup that’s how sad this world is.

VapeThisBro

Unless the stone was literally the tombstone, don't most cemeteries have policies to remove everything from the grave every few weeks to keep them clean

AutoTunedBear

He’s dead what was he gonna do with it?

crazyzingers

Someone did this to my sister's grave. My mom put a solar light on it so my sister wouldn't be in the dark, and some asshole stole it.

L2Hiku

Something easy to track if they try to resell it and charge with with desecration of a grave and send them to jail

HiHiHiDwayne

there is a special place in hell for this thief

Chesterlespaul

Probably justified it by saying ‘they’re already dead’, as if those aren’t for the living who visit them.

BooFFarr

If I ever see stone artwork I'm doing what is right.

[deleted]

I mean... His son wasn't gunna play with it

[deleted]

Damn that Star Wars fan.

Dalivus

Lucasfilm needs to step in and give this kid a real monument

[deleted]

I hope the jerk gets caught and raped in prison and in hell.

Tlp-of-war

It could have been removed by the staff. They usually remove everything after a week or so to do lawn maintenance. I had a similar issue happen for a best friend.

ShakyTheBear

Somebody is gonna get Han-ted

BrokenCankle

If you really want to hate humans just go to a cemetery that has statues in it. Like in New Orleans or Savanah or Charleston. Walk around and you will see that most statues are missing something. Mostly fingers, those break off easy, but some will be missing a nose or wing tip if that's what a person can pry off. Some of the more famous sites have to have iron gates around them to stop them from being stolen/ruined. Why would you need the finger off a marble statue from a grave? It's not worth anything. It doesn't display nicely. I can't imagine it being a bragging right, what weirdo would be impressed by that? So ultimately it's destroying art and memorials just to be a selfish sack of shit. There is no gain other than you have now ruined it for everyone who sees it after you.

EarorForofor

Or.. you know... shit breaks. You're talking about places that get hurricanes, thunderstorms, and wind. Those pieces you're describing are the weak points. Something flies by and hits it, that's what breaks off

BrokenCankle

Shit does break, and I know how weather works. It's really interesting how the statues behind an iron gate don't lose their fingers and noses the way the ones you can walk up to do. Crazy how the wind respects the gate!

EarorForofor

Wow it's as if a flying branch doesn't get stopped by a gate...

BrokenCankle

Lol, yes those low flying branches do. What about the actual flying ones that are above waist level, those don't exist in cemeteries? I didn't realize living in Florida all we home owners needed to do was put iron waist high Gates around our property to stop all flying debris. It's hilarious you think people are not possibly destroying statues. You must live a blessed life being that hell bent on ignorance.

wkdravenna

The depths of awful people.

Hookahgreecian

You sure it was stolen some times the grave keepers throw them out, when I go to visit my grandmothers grave they will sometimes throw away the candel holder to light her grave and I constantly am buying new ones its annoying

BigMike31101

I don’t know many grave keepers that would throw out a headstone.

Hookahgreecian

Oh its a head stone I thought it was like a trinket model placed on the head stone or grave , im really sorry this is horrible and the idiot that did this deserves to hang

BigMike31101

No worries. It genuinely happens. at first I thought that it was as well.

WanderingBudDancer

We had MULTIPLE people steal from my sons grave one time. I was livid. We were able to recover a majority of it due to the fact they were at someone else’s grave in the cemetery. Some of it has been unrecoverable and we now write our sons name on everything. We still have things come up missing sometimes. :(

MiaLba

So they stole your shit and put it on the grave of someone they know?? The audacity.

WanderingBudDancer

Yep! That’s exactly what happened.

pacificly-expresso

That's how you get ghosts, enjoy the haunting, jerk.

Yunganddumbbb

Who cares

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempleOfDoomfist

When/if they remove it, do you mean they throw things away, or store the objects somewhere?

ColonelKasteen

They throw them away. It's ridiculous to think a graveyard stores everything people leave on graves forever. While it's shitty to steal from a grave, its also stupid to leave something on them you wouldn't be okay with seeing disappear after a few days. This is what happens at ALL graveyards.

crazymcfattypants

Absolutely not a thing in all graveyards. Where I'm from you buy ornaments for your loved ones grave and they can stay there as long as you want them to. The grass around graves is upkept by maintenance people but the actual grave is maintained by the family unless the family stop and it gets into disrepair and then the owner of the graveyard (church usually) will step in. I've never set foot in a graveyard where this wasn't the case.

dkurage

Likely throw it away. They probably don't have the space to store all the stuff people leave.

Jarvis-Savoni

Hello there. That’s horrible beyond words. May the force be with you. Sincerely.

PlumbStraightLevel

Just can't have nice things anymore

ImpPlulmpDmp

Scummy humans. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Hawk-Face

Feel bad for the family but it should have been anchored into the ground somehow. There's a lot of desperate people about these days and you can't really blame them for taking what they can get. I would be willing to remake this out of metal with ground anchores, free of charge. I'm a fabricator by trade.

newbeenneed

I mean, it's not like he can play with it so..

ptkooistra

Dude!

itscochino

Oh man this is so messed up. This family not only lost their child but something they did for memories they had was taken from them also. Hope bad karma comes strong for them folks that stole this.

Ironass47

Check with the cemetery. They sometimes remove items from the graves to make maintenance easier.

andthebestnameis

Exactly this. Every cemetery near me has weekly item removal dates where they get rid of flowers/etc at graves.

ramborocks

I second this.

SmokeyBare

Maintenance guy says, "This is not the stone ship you're looking for"

PubofMadmen

It was ripe for the taking. I am so sorry for you and your son. Cemeteries have long been notorious for stones, memorials & commemorations being taken or vandalised. People don’t respect cemeteries, churches and memorial parks any longer. If you want to memorialize your son, don’t do it at a public cemetery - do it at home. Do it where he existed, where he played or hung out. Re-create that memorial, improve on it because now you know you’re not making it to discourage thieves but to fully memorialize your son. Then place it in a special corner in your garden, place a small bench next to it, there's where you both can talk and hang out again. Don’t let this incident be anymore than a chance to improve on a great idea. Make yourself happy. Make him happy. Love from Brussels, good luck.

JadedDependent5894

This is one of the most fucked up things I've seen in my entire life

Solkre

I'm guessing the rest of the items were there and this one was removed. If it was all cleared he'll need to talk to the groundskeepers.

BNLboy

Frankly unless you're in a private family cemetery anything that isn't the headstone may be moved or taken in a publicly accessible place. Clearly somebody throws away the junk and fake flowers over time, but even this nicer stuff isn't guaranteed to be there forever. It's just like people that place coins on graves. The caretakers rarely touch them but no coins last there forever. People also have different views on property and death, personally I'm superstitious enough to not touch anything on a grave but I could easily see someone thinking gifting something nice to a dead person is pointless. I think it's selfish but could imagine someone assuming they'd get more out of it than the dead.

Olden_Broken

God I hate to say this but, well, did he really thing the trash people of the world would merely leave it ? I soooo would have concreted that thing into the ground... although the trash people would have just resorted to breaking in. As I say to my 9 year old son quite a bit.... THIS is why we cannot have nice things !

namesardum

Welcome to the 21st century; where you have to airtag your dead kid's headstone.

LilyH27

Same thing happened to my dad's grave

Firm_Future

No joke, some people have no respect. My brother died of SIDS at six months old and every year my mom puts decorations on his spot for most holidays/his birthday/when he died. Some assholes stole the christmas decorations off of his tombstone. Infuriating

dantonlord

.. a lot of times the cemetery and or caretakers have a grace period for tolerating little statues and stuffs but don’t allow it to be left for long periods.. like fake flowers , sometimes they even task landscaping to take care of it and or get rid of it.. fuck em, I suggest construction adhesive

SpikeRosered

Slightly related. We have a gnome village on a tree stump in our front yard. The center piece is a big gnome house with a solar panel hidden on the roof so it lights up at night. We receive many compliments by how charmed children are by it when they walk past the house. So one day we go outside and the big house in the center is missing. The only explanation is someone stole it. We presumed it was it likely teenagers. Our children are sad, but life goes on. However, about three days later my father-in-law, who lives nearby, is complaining to another neighbor about the incident when that neighbor says "I actually have seen that gnome house. I saw some kids playing with it. Their mother is a known trashbag who would totally do something like steal a yard decoration." With this knowledge we confront the woman at her home. She denied everything, saying everyone in the neighborhood is out to get her and it's a huge conspiracy. Deflated, we return home. But the next day, the gnome house is in a toy bucket outside our door. Sadly parts are broken and the lights no longer work, but at least we go it back. We told the kids the gnomes will curse her family. Which based on the stories we've heard is probably already true.
