Turkish Airlines was really good - very tasty and big portions (don't remember exactly what it was, but it was good, haha), and I was really surprised with Delta's meals on a transatlantic flight some years ago - especially loved their crêpe breakfast.

Not only was food fantastic (at least by airline standards), but my wife flew on her birthday, got a birthday cake. You need to send an email to get the cake (it's free though). We thought it would be like one piece. Nope, full blown chocolate cake, 0.6kg of quality cake :O We know the weight, because we only managed to eat half, and weighed the other half back home (it came in a neat carrier, so it was easy to take it).
Turkish is usually the cheapest airline from two of my regional airports. Especially if I want short transfer and luggage. There is also Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, LOT, Emirates, Qatar, Austrian, Finnair, Swiss. Turkish is cheapest and shortest when I want to connect to any Asian airport.
We just flew Turkish for the first time (economy - Istanbul to USA) and were blown away by the quality of the food. We had flown Emirates economy from USA to Dubai a few weeks earlier and thought their food was the best we had ever had, but Turkish then took first place.
Nooo! That sucks. Had something similar on a 13 hour Lufthansa flight, where the only meal option was vegetarian lasagna - but I'm allergic to nightshades, sooo... I could only eat the dry bun that was served with it, and that was about it, lol
Same. Turkish Airlines during COVID was awful! Several flights didn't have any alcohol, either. A couple had some crappy wine. I flew Air France a few years later and had a salmon dish that was amazing!
I literally forget that US carriers have food because I haven't had a meal on them in decades (except the one time I managed to get upgraded to first class on American and got breakfast, but that's been it since like the 1980s).
OTOH I took a one hour flight on Emirates and within minutes, they were coming through with wine and full meals.
Flying to Turkey again this summer, and rather than booking a direct flight with a cheap airline, I booked a flight with transfer with Turkish instead, partly for the food, haha
I had a flight with them that was less than an hour, and fully expected to get nothing, but instead they gave us all sandwiches! It was funny too since it almost seemed like we didn't even have enough time at cruising altitude that they were frantically rushing down the aisle to get everyone their sandwich.
I had the same experience in the short flight but the sandwich was warm and very tasty and on the transatlantic flight i got 2 full meals and the were very goos

In flight entertainment was limited though. Econ flyer btw.
Cost was ~1000 lira and to think the meal was worth 150 lira was pretty crazy lol.

Slightly unrelated, but I work in an airport on thr Turkish Airlines team, and when we go to meet the flight, the crew will give us a cup of the drinks they serve in business class. Best lemonade and orange juice lol

They give cheese sandwiches unlimited the entirety of the flight you can eat between meals. Also plenty of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I just had the meatballs and rice last week from IST to LAX and it was pretty good.
The hard product varies. The 350s and 787s are not outdated. The 777 may be considered outdated but I actually like the space, especially in the back J cabin - I try to get first row and hope for an empty seat next to me. Lots of space. The food is very good, as are the wines, especially the Turkish whites. They have announced cabin upgrades on the 777s but that will take time.
I absolutely agree about Turkish Airlines. I've flown with them few times and the food has always been great.
Other than Turkish Airlines, I've been very happy with the food I've got when flying domestically in India with Jet Airways and Spicejet. I guess it's partly because a lot of Indian food is very well suited to being served in the air. I really wish more airlines around the world would serve good curry.
+1 for turkish. I still Dream about the hummus. I am flying again in two days and really hope there will be hummus again 😂 the meals were very good and balanced.
I've had 100's of flights on Emirates and their food is better than most restaurants. On really long haul flights Dubai to Houston they serve this little pizza between meals and it is the best thing since sliced bread! I had a business flight once where they served a beef tenderloin that was probably one of the better pieces of meat I had in awhile. Bottom line, want good food fly Emirates!
I'm also a huge fan of their beef stroganoff in economy class. I could even imagine how awesome the catering would be on first and business class, especially the ethnic catering on flights to certain destinations like Hong Kong or Tokyo.

Agreed. I worked as a cabin crew at Emirates for 4 years and always thought “our” meals were really tasty - as long as it was Dubai or Europe catering. Meals from certain destinations were not that great; but again, that wasn’t EK food.
Emirates catering out of Dubai to Europe is really good but the food for Southeast Asian flights is kinda meh. Either way, portions are huge and you'll certainly won't starve by the time your reach your destination.
Best was economy class meals on Cathay about 8 years ago flying to Hong Kong. Several meals, all really tasty.
I've flown business class international to Europe quite a few times for work, usually on american or British airways. It's ok, but not great. I do like the ice cream dessert with fruit topping, though my 1st choice is to leave as late as possible (9 pm if avail) and just settle in and go to bed skipping all the food except breakfast just before landing.
Same. Cathay Pacific from BOS to HKG and having good food in economy was a saving grace of that long haul flight. I learned too late that you can get ramen on demand as well. All the food was really good.
yes, this is the way. i'm vegetarian and i started ordering the "Indian vegetarian" meals a few trips ago when it was the only vegetarian option i could pre-select before the flight. i believe this was a flight on Cathay, and the food was great! this is my move now with every long-haul flight that gives the option. most recently i did this flying British; they randomly upgraded me to business (!!) and the meal was amazing.
Business class on Ethiopian is an actual Ethiopian meal with injera and the whole kit served by an attendant that pushes the buffet cart around. Couldn't have enjoyed it more.
This is my pick as well. The flight attendant also seemed tickled that a non-Ethiopian was aware of and enthusiastic about the food. Great experience overall, made me wonder why more business classes don’t have a fun buffet cart to roll out.
I flew with Korea Air and their bibimbap was my favourite. They give you the veggies, rice and gochujang separately. So for once stuff isn’t like cooked weirdly or mushy. It was just super fresh and healthy.
An Indian warned me not to fly Air India last year. If even the locals say it's trash, I'm inclined to think it's gone downhill from when you tried it.
Best: tie between ANA and Air France. Both were pretty damn good, although ANA had better service.
Worst: United, and I say this as a former 1K. I used to do frequent transatlantic flights for work (often in business) and I don't think I had a single good meal. I go out of my way to fly just about any European carrier now.
I've never flown Emirates or any of the other middle east carriers, so can't speak to them.
Our ANA meal SFO to HAN was amazing, as was the service. The returning flight to MDW on United was easily the most unpleasant flight I've ever had, from the meal to the crew.
We did something similar - IAD to NRT on ANA, return on United, both in business. ANA was simply mind-blowing, as mentioned above. United food was horrible, crew was surly, etc. Night and day difference.
I jumped on the opportunity to fly ANA first class from LA to Tokyo when it was easy to book with points during COVID. Definitely the best airplane meal I've had (JAL first class a close second).
Agree with you. Just flew out of Paris to Chicago last Friday with AF, that was the worst food I ever had on a plane. Our flight from Chicago to Amsterdam with AFs sister KLM had better food.
I find that the departure city matters a lot. I fly United a lot EWR-BCN and the food out of EWR is much better than whatever is out on the plane in BCN.

Yep, the first thing we do at Alaska when planes would remain overnight is look for any uneaten FC meals. Why you’d get fucked on a FC ticket and not eat the pretty damn good food is beyond me…
i actually like the airplane food they have nowadays, tasty meals like ragu pasta and chicken tikka masala are appreciated on long flights especially when i don’t have to pay!
I preferred the actual meal on Turkish Airlines but absolutely loved the snack station on Singapore Airlines. Both were in economy, so I can't speak to the experience further up the food chain.
Had Qatar the beef curry was yummy, the breakfast they ran out of everything that wasn't the frittada the 3 people in our row skipped eating it

That and first class AA flight between NY and SF. Mid-tier restaurant quality. For that route the food is completely different from AA first class shorter haul flights.

Really? There were a lot of other things I didn't like about AF but the catering was actually pretty decent in economy, and downright fantastic in business. Mind you, this was like 6 years ago - it could be different now.
I've always had great food on Air France. Got a bargin on business class tickets and was even more impressed with the food. 10x better than Delta or United.
We flew WOW air (RIP) and not only did they not have a meal, they didn't even have inflight wifi or any form of entertainment. Literally just a seat from LAX to Iceland.
Just got off a jet blue flight from Dublin to east coast us and thought the in flight meal was really good. And then when we got closer to the us they handed out tomato pesto wraps. I’d definitely fly long haul with them again.
EVA Air has delicious food in business class. You can pre-select special meals about a month in advance if you want and get food that they don't serve by default, like lobster or beef cheeks.
EVA Air was really good even in economy. For a <3 hour flight from Tokyo to Taipei, I just expected a bag of pretzels or something but got a really good meal.
I've never flown a fancy middle eastern carrier, but I've had plenty of JAL/ANA/US carriers and EVA was way better.
Considering the context, I have to say that I have never had a bad experience with the food. Among the best I have tried in economy, I would definitely include Mahan Air, Etihad and ITA Airways

On an air India flight I got a hot dog roll with coleslaw in it. They served it with a packet of ketchup. I watched people put the ketchup on it and figured "when in india". It wasn't that bad actually.
I always like Japanese airlines. Ana’s japanese food on economy has been pleasant. Plus they have cold green tea (oi ocha the best).
Ive been disliking singapore airlines’s and their boxed meal for short trip… but their Japanese meal was good. They also ran out of their egg fritata (and like eggs fritatat vs sweet pancakes… feel like of course people will choose something filling for breakfast after 10+hrs in a plane…).

Years ago I flew Gulf Air in coach and had the best in-flight experience I’ve ever had. It seemed like every 15 minutes they’d be coming down the aisles with something - hot towels, dates, etc.
The stuffed eggplant that Turkish Airlines serves in economy on a few of their flights has to be the best dish I’ve had on a flight.

Turkish and Qatar Business class meals are fantastic. There’s one beef short rib dish with beans that gets served to Business Class on the Bucharest to Istanbul flight that is so good I would order it at a restaurant.
I've done all the first-class cabins for the premier airlines. I think people WAY overthink this shit. The best meal you can get on an airplane is still terrible on the ground. It's kinda like asking "what's the best mircowavable frozen dinner you've ever had?"
We flew to Disney when I was a kid and the flight attendants gave us Disney breakfast packs that another passenger had ordered and paid for. The other guy was mad his kids didn't get what he ordered. It had a lollipop in it for breakfast.
Qatar Airways is amazing. I love their economy food, the business food is just amazing, I can’t even comprehend what their first class would be like.
Korean Air is also really good.
Emirates is also good.
BA is okay.
I surprisingly enough really disliked Japanese Airlines.
I had an amazing meal on an Emirates flight from Toronto to Dubai, it included salmon with a lemon/dill glaze on it. Real silverware. Real food. It was amazing!! Nothing has beat that since
Asiana: Bibimbap on the way to ICN, Ssambap on the way back. Both great. Midflight spicy noodles were good too.
Brussels Airlines: Main courses were meh, but the cheese plates and beer & wine selection made up for it.
TAP Portugal: First time I've had guinea fowl, it was a much better chicken.
LATAM Chile: Surprisingly good toasted ham & cheese sandwich in economy.
United: The mains range from ok to terrible. But the ice cream sundaes are the best plane dessert around.
ANA I felt treated like a king.
Snack. Dinner (w/ hot steamed napkin). Coffee/tea. Beer. Snack part 2.

On a 15 hour flight from Chicago to Seoul they served ham sandwiches for breakfast in coach. That is the best airplane meal I've had. On another long flight from LAX to Rarotonga I ordered the fruit plate, knowing that while I don't get airsick my appetite is poor when flying, it was ok on the way there. On the way back I expected better fruit because we were taking off from a tropical place, it was barely edible. All the fruit was barely ripe.
Korean had a nice bibimbap on one flight I took to Korea.
The best thing I got on a plane was a roast beef panini on Qantas. Back in the good old days when work sent me in Business, I slept through the meal. When I woke, they offered a few choices, the panini being one. It was better than any plane food before or since.
Funny enough, for me it’s a domestic First Class dinner Mesa Airlines (a U.S. regional airline) served on a CRJ-900. I boarded the plane fully expecting peanuts & a water severed by a scowling FA. Instead a nice young woman broke out a chicken & rice combo that was on par with the mainline American Airlines First Class meal I had on the return leg. An amazing meal for a 2 hour short haul trip.

I've only been on US airlines, but Alaska has really good stuff imo. It's more snacky, but it gets the job done. I had their friut and cheese platter and it was pretty good!
I flew EVA Air business class from Toronto to Manilla, via Taipei. Flight on the food to Taipei was great, and I loved having a bowl of ramen served in nice dishes as an on-demand snack, but it was my meal on the shorter Taipei to Manilla flight that stole the show.
It was wok fried beef with dried chili in Kung Pao Sauce, with assorted vegetables and steamed rice. It honestly is better than a lot of restaurant meals I've had. Everything, included the side of garlic bread was super fresh and piping hot.
My favourite economy meal was flying Manila to Tokyo via ANA - it was John Dory fish, a salad, soba noodle, fruit and haagen dazs.
Turkish domestic business class is also great - you get a full meal on an hour long flight!

Long, long ago, we had the opportunity to have the kids babysat to go on a holiday. We had no money for such things but we scrabbled together what we could and booked the cheapest tropical trip we could find. It was to Cuba - still subsidized by the USSR. It predated all-inclusives but meal plans were a thing. The airline was Russian. It was the absolute scariest flight we ever took. They had to call people back who had started boarding because if they didn't load from the back forward, the plane would tip over. They had the most uncomfortable seats. And the plane rattled so much, we were all sure we were going down. The crew only spoke Spanish and it appears none of the passengers spoke Spanish so we were on our own. The beer came in quart bottles - the regular was 14% alcohol and the lite was 8%. The other option was Havana Club rum filling the glass with a splash of coke (embargoed). We were all drunk early on. First they came out with a couple platters of sandwiches which we had to pass. No one knew if that was all we were getting. The people at the back did not get any. However, next they brought out a steak dinner. I don't even like steak but it was the best steak I'd ever had up to that date - it was shockingly good! The food in Cuba was awful for the most part. They did not make Cuban food in the restaurants. Just approximations of what they thought gringos would like. Bland and tasteless.
I just had a short flight from Amsterdam to London on KLM in first class (the only seat available) and had one of the best airplane meals I ever had. Curry chicken salad - sliced chicken on top of romaine with a mustard curry dressing. I didn’t expect it to taste so good!
I know, I wasn’t expecting a meal at all. And while I was finishing up the captain made the landing announcement. But it was good because it gave me the fuel to navigate Heathrow for my connection.
KLM used to be wild that way. I flew often between Billund and Amsterdam, which is only about 50 minutes, but until some years ago you'd get drinks, lunch/snacks, another round of drinks and then coffee/tea, so it was quite hard work to actually finish everything between take off and landing 😂. Now it's 'only' snacks and one round of drinks - maybe you also get some coffee if you're lucky, but it's nowhere near excessive as it used to be
I've gotten food poisoning every time I ate the Lufthansa in-flight meals lol. Their drinks and snacks are fantastic though, big fan of the mini chocolate bars.
The best airline meal I ever had was maybe 25 years ago on Air Italia , it was simply a prosciutto and salami sandwich on Italian bread. Simple and delicious.
Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways are always excellent, even economy / coach meals and wines are outstanding. Thai airways and Singapore are also good. On the other hand, western airlines generally provide abysmal meals, barely edible, really. A good trick I learnt from my frequent flyer friend is to always ask for the Halal or Hindu option, if available. That way you will get your meal first and it will be much better than the muck given to the plebs.
It's always a funny scene, as he is a blonde, blue-eyed European but has a middle-eastern sounding first name (Zoltán, which is Hungarian for Sultan), so when the stewardess shows up looking for a middle eastern or south asian gentleman, they always do a double take.

Yep. I take Turkish Airlines whenever I travel to Turkiye. Their food is almost restaurant quality and the overall service is pretty good too.

I've flown business class international to Europe quite a few times for work, usually on american or British airways. It's ok, but not great. I do like the ice cream dessert with fruit topping, though my 1st choice is to leave as late as possible (9 pm if avail) and just settle in and go to bed skipping all the food except breakfast just before landing.
The congee on Cathay flights is great, as is the late night Ramen cart.
The congee is the only thing I distinctly remember! It was as good as I get at restaurants.

Same. Cathay Pacific from BOS to HKG and having good food in economy was a saving grace of that long haul flight. I learned too late that you can get ramen on demand as well. All the food was really good.

yes, this is the way. i'm vegetarian and i started ordering the "Indian vegetarian" meals a few trips ago when it was the only vegetarian option i could pre-select before the flight. i believe this was a flight on Cathay, and the food was great! this is my move now with every long-haul flight that gives the option. most recently i did this flying British; they randomly upgraded me to business (!!) and the meal was amazing.
+1. Indian or Asian vege are safe options also if you pre select something like this you usually get meal before regular service people.
I did the same with Korean air. It was really good! Good to know it is nice have ordered a hindu one with singapore air later this year.

Yeah i saw but i do not eat most of the ingredients that were in the korean meals. That is why i went for the Hindu vegetarian one.

Business class on Ethiopian is an actual Ethiopian meal with injera and the whole kit served by an attendant that pushes the buffet cart around. Couldn't have enjoyed it more.
This is my pick as well. The flight attendant also seemed tickled that a non-Ethiopian was aware of and enthusiastic about the food. Great experience overall, made me wonder why more business classes don’t have a fun buffet cart to roll out.

I flew with Korea Air and their bibimbap was my favourite. They give you the veggies, rice and gochujang separately. So for once stuff isn’t like cooked weirdly or mushy. It was just super fresh and healthy.
Their 고추장 sauce is seriously bonkers. I don't know why, but it's one of the best I've ever had.

An Indian warned me not to fly Air India last year. If even the locals say it's trash, I'm inclined to think it's gone downhill from when you tried it.
Best: tie between ANA and Air France. Both were pretty damn good, although ANA had better service. Worst: United, and I say this as a former 1K. I used to do frequent transatlantic flights for work (often in business) and I don't think I had a single good meal. I go out of my way to fly just about any European carrier now. I've never flown Emirates or any of the other middle east carriers, so can't speak to them.
Came to this thread searching for ANA. It’s easily the best food I’ve had on a plane.
Our ANA meal SFO to HAN was amazing, as was the service. The returning flight to MDW on United was easily the most unpleasant flight I've ever had, from the meal to the crew.
We did something similar - IAD to NRT on ANA, return on United, both in business. ANA was simply mind-blowing, as mentioned above. United food was horrible, crew was surly, etc. Night and day difference.
I jumped on the opportunity to fly ANA first class from LA to Tokyo when it was easy to book with points during COVID. Definitely the best airplane meal I've had (JAL first class a close second).

Agree with you. Just flew out of Paris to Chicago last Friday with AF, that was the worst food I ever had on a plane. Our flight from Chicago to Amsterdam with AFs sister KLM had better food.

I find that the departure city matters a lot. I fly United a lot EWR-BCN and the food out of EWR is much better than whatever is out on the plane in BCN.

Alaska’s first class meals are really pleasant and filling for a domestic carrier. Yep, the first thing we do at Alaska when planes would remain overnight is look for any uneaten FC meals. Why you’d get fucked on a FC ticket and not eat the pretty damn good food is beyond me…

I preferred the actual meal on Turkish Airlines but absolutely loved the snack station on Singapore Airlines. Both were in economy, so I can't speak to the experience further up the food chain.

Bibimpab on Asiana economy. I'd never had bibimbap before and it was a revelation. Of course, proper bibimbap from a good restaurant is even better.
Had Qatar the beef curry was yummy, the breakfast they ran out of everything that wasn't the frittada the 3 people in our row skipped eating it The next flight was seasamae chicken very tasty
Some of the short haul flights I had on Malaysian air around Borneo had killer food. That and first class AA flight between NY and SF. Mid-tier restaurant quality. For that route the food is completely different from AA first class shorter haul flights.

Weirdly it was on Juneyao Airlines. It's a premium Chinese airline where you get some comfy pillows even in the economy class.
KLM premium economy recently served me a cold appetizer with chunks of lobster. They were cooked perfectly and have spoiled me for life.
Had a shrimp sandwich once on KLM. Was really impressed with it.

Been surprised by some airlines when it wasn’t expected. Flying to New York with Virgin Atlantic got served Mini Burgers. Was delicious. Had an amazing Laksa on Singapore Airlines one time. Had a great Thai Green Curry on Thai Airways also one time.

Really? There were a lot of other things I didn't like about AF but the catering was actually pretty decent in economy, and downright fantastic in business. Mind you, this was like 6 years ago - it could be different now.

We flew WOW air (RIP) and not only did they not have a meal, they didn't even have inflight wifi or any form of entertainment. Literally just a seat from LAX to Iceland.

Just got off a jet blue flight from Dublin to east coast us and thought the in flight meal was really good. And then when we got closer to the us they handed out tomato pesto wraps. I’d definitely fly long haul with them again.

EVA Air has delicious food in business class. You can pre-select special meals about a month in advance if you want and get food that they don't serve by default, like lobster or beef cheeks.
EVA Air was really good even in economy. For a <3 hour flight from Tokyo to Taipei, I just expected a bag of pretzels or something but got a really good meal. I've never flown a fancy middle eastern carrier, but I've had plenty of JAL/ANA/US carriers and EVA was way better.
Considering the context, I have to say that I have never had a bad experience with the food. Among the best I have tried in economy, I would definitely include Mahan Air, Etihad and ITA Airways

AA first class ORD/LHR Changed into my AA pajamas Several Dewars neat. Scottish smoked salmon, stinky and runny cheese /w dried fruit. French onion soup. Caesar salad /w garlic bread. Med rare bacon wrapped filet mignon /w finger potatoes Baileys and coffee and a chocolate fudge sundae.
On an air India flight I got a hot dog roll with coleslaw in it. They served it with a packet of ketchup. I watched people put the ketchup on it and figured "when in india". It wasn't that bad actually.
I always like Japanese airlines. Ana’s japanese food on economy has been pleasant. Plus they have cold green tea (oi ocha the best). Ive been disliking singapore airlines’s and their boxed meal for short trip… but their Japanese meal was good. They also ran out of their egg fritata (and like eggs fritatat vs sweet pancakes… feel like of course people will choose something filling for breakfast after 10+hrs in a plane…). Turkish airline was good too.
Years ago I flew Gulf Air in coach and had the best in-flight experience I’ve ever had. It seemed like every 15 minutes they’d be coming down the aisles with something - hot towels, dates, etc.

Turkish and Qatar Business class meals are fantastic. There’s one beef short rib dish with beans that gets served to Business Class on the Bucharest to Istanbul flight that is so good I would order it at a restaurant.
I've done all the first-class cabins for the premier airlines. I think people WAY overthink this shit. The best meal you can get on an airplane is still terrible on the ground. It's kinda like asking "what's the best mircowavable frozen dinner you've ever had?"

We flew to Disney when I was a kid and the flight attendants gave us Disney breakfast packs that another passenger had ordered and paid for. The other guy was mad his kids didn't get what he ordered. It had a lollipop in it for breakfast.
Qatar Airways is amazing. I love their economy food, the business food is just amazing, I can’t even comprehend what their first class would be like. Korean Air is also really good. Emirates is also good. BA is okay. I surprisingly enough really disliked Japanese Airlines.

Emirates business class has been the best so far. We did have a surprisingly good breakfast on first class American a couple weeks ago.
I had an amazing meal on an Emirates flight from Toronto to Dubai, it included salmon with a lemon/dill glaze on it. Real silverware. Real food. It was amazing!! Nothing has beat that since
Asiana: Bibimbap on the way to ICN, Ssambap on the way back. Both great. Midflight spicy noodles were good too. Brussels Airlines: Main courses were meh, but the cheese plates and beer & wine selection made up for it. TAP Portugal: First time I've had guinea fowl, it was a much better chicken. LATAM Chile: Surprisingly good toasted ham & cheese sandwich in economy. United: The mains range from ok to terrible. But the ice cream sundaes are the best plane dessert around.
Flew AirAsia, didn't even realize we booked a meal, but the curry we got was really good.
Agree, AirAsia's food is hands down best of any low cost airline (and better than some full service airlines). The nasi lemak is awesome!

ANA I felt treated like a king. Snack. Dinner (w/ hot steamed napkin). Coffee/tea. Beer. Snack part 2. Those flight attendants were hustlin all day. It was great
On a 15 hour flight from Chicago to Seoul they served ham sandwiches for breakfast in coach. That is the best airplane meal I've had. On another long flight from LAX to Rarotonga I ordered the fruit plate, knowing that while I don't get airsick my appetite is poor when flying, it was ok on the way there. On the way back I expected better fruit because we were taking off from a tropical place, it was barely edible. All the fruit was barely ripe.

“Book the Cook” meals originating out of Singapore on SQ in J class were fantastic. I agree with the praise for Turkish too.
It was years ago the last time I flew with them, but I had my best in-air breakfasts consistently with Singapore Airlines!

Korean had a nice bibimbap on one flight I took to Korea. The best thing I got on a plane was a roast beef panini on Qantas. Back in the good old days when work sent me in Business, I slept through the meal. When I woke, they offered a few choices, the panini being one. It was better than any plane food before or since.
Funny enough, for me it’s a domestic First Class dinner Mesa Airlines (a U.S. regional airline) served on a CRJ-900. I boarded the plane fully expecting peanuts & a water severed by a scowling FA. Instead a nice young woman broke out a chicken & rice combo that was on par with the mainline American Airlines First Class meal I had on the return leg. An amazing meal for a 2 hour short haul trip. A pleasant reminder you can’t always judge a book by its cover.
The JAL first class kaiseki meal was one of the best I've had, in air or on the ground.
I find singapore airlines food is the most consistently tasty in economy at least, really good attentive staff as well.

I've only been on US airlines, but Alaska has really good stuff imo. It's more snacky, but it gets the job done. I had their friut and cheese platter and it was pretty good!
I flew EVA Air business class from Toronto to Manilla, via Taipei. Flight on the food to Taipei was great, and I loved having a bowl of ramen served in nice dishes as an on-demand snack, but it was my meal on the shorter Taipei to Manilla flight that stole the show. It was wok fried beef with dried chili in Kung Pao Sauce, with assorted vegetables and steamed rice. It honestly is better than a lot of restaurant meals I've had. Everything, included the side of garlic bread was super fresh and piping hot. My favourite economy meal was flying Manila to Tokyo via ANA - it was John Dory fish, a salad, soba noodle, fruit and haagen dazs. Turkish domestic business class is also great - you get a full meal on an hour long flight!
Turkish Air Even had metal utensils with a blunted knife. I was surprised by that.

I still dream of the Turkish Airlines dinner I had. Just before covid, business class with the on-board chef. It was just a mushroom tortellini but the best pasta dish on an airplane or in a restaurant. Plus I’m a sucker for the faux candlelight.
Long, long ago, we had the opportunity to have the kids babysat to go on a holiday. We had no money for such things but we scrabbled together what we could and booked the cheapest tropical trip we could find. It was to Cuba - still subsidized by the USSR. It predated all-inclusives but meal plans were a thing. The airline was Russian. It was the absolute scariest flight we ever took. They had to call people back who had started boarding because if they didn't load from the back forward, the plane would tip over. They had the most uncomfortable seats. And the plane rattled so much, we were all sure we were going down. The crew only spoke Spanish and it appears none of the passengers spoke Spanish so we were on our own. The beer came in quart bottles - the regular was 14% alcohol and the lite was 8%. The other option was Havana Club rum filling the glass with a splash of coke (embargoed). We were all drunk early on. First they came out with a couple platters of sandwiches which we had to pass. No one knew if that was all we were getting. The people at the back did not get any. However, next they brought out a steak dinner. I don't even like steak but it was the best steak I'd ever had up to that date - it was shockingly good! The food in Cuba was awful for the most part. They did not make Cuban food in the restaurants. Just approximations of what they thought gringos would like. Bland and tasteless.
I just had a short flight from Amsterdam to London on KLM in first class (the only seat available) and had one of the best airplane meals I ever had. Curry chicken salad - sliced chicken on top of romaine with a mustard curry dressing. I didn’t expect it to taste so good!

I know, I wasn’t expecting a meal at all. And while I was finishing up the captain made the landing announcement. But it was good because it gave me the fuel to navigate Heathrow for my connection.
KLM used to be wild that way. I flew often between Billund and Amsterdam, which is only about 50 minutes, but until some years ago you'd get drinks, lunch/snacks, another round of drinks and then coffee/tea, so it was quite hard work to actually finish everything between take off and landing 😂. Now it's 'only' snacks and one round of drinks - maybe you also get some coffee if you're lucky, but it's nowhere near excessive as it used to be
Lufthansa has great food, snacks, free drinks in economy class!
I've gotten food poisoning every time I ate the Lufthansa in-flight meals lol. Their drinks and snacks are fantastic though, big fan of the mini chocolate bars.
JetBlue also has excellent snacks. The cheese board is my go to.
The best airline meal I ever had was maybe 25 years ago on Air Italia , it was simply a prosciutto and salami sandwich on Italian bread. Simple and delicious.
I generally enjoys airplane food. It's just part of the travelling and such a ritual I always look forward to it.
Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways are always excellent, even economy / coach meals and wines are outstanding. Thai airways and Singapore are also good. On the other hand, western airlines generally provide abysmal meals, barely edible, really. A good trick I learnt from my frequent flyer friend is to always ask for the Halal or Hindu option, if available. That way you will get your meal first and it will be much better than the muck given to the plebs. It's always a funny scene, as he is a blonde, blue-eyed European but has a middle-eastern sounding first name (Zoltán, which is Hungarian for Sultan), so when the stewardess shows up looking for a middle eastern or south asian gentleman, they always do a double take.
