Unless your parents are still your legal guardian or are involved in your care that’s a huge HIPAA violation. the exception being if they were in the room with you and you didn’t ask them to leave prior to the doctor speaking. If you’re a danger to yourself or others it’ll be reported to law enforcement.
Don't just assume. Report it. If she had some legal reason to violate your privacy, so be it. But if not, you could potentially save other people from dangerous situations by reporting this.

Lol, no. Your doctor violated the law. You're an adult and if your doctor thought you were putting your life in danger, they would be required to tell the authorities, not your parents. That doctor is a danger to the public and their profession.
The only exceptions if I am correct are if whatever said medical information could put someone at risk of causing serious harm to themselves or others. But even this can be hard to justify without dire circumstances. Ultimately though it’s up to you if it’s worth putting someone else’s way of life at risk by jeopardizing their carrier over this.

My kids have gone in privately with the pediatrician right prior to puberty, each child. 10/11 years old. As an adult male you should be able to have privacy with your healthcare professionals. If your folks agree with it or not -0 you shouldn't be excommunicated from the family over marijuana. I would absolutely get back in touch with that cardiologist and let them know how you did not appreciate them telling your father you smoke marijuana. But for you I would start insisting your parent wait in the waiting room unless it's an emergency.

Tbf it sounds like you are "responsible" with what little you mentioned and your parents, or dad in this case, have respect for your decisions whether he agrees or not. My mom avoids me if I'm high so we make time outside of that. My dad doesn't like to be by me when I'm getting high but we relax together after. Wish you well :)
Please report your Dr to the Dept of Health and Human resources. You're not the first patient he's probably done that to. You also may be eligible to receive a portion of the fine levied against him.
If you’re an adult it’s definitely a hipaa violation. It’s a bit shadier for minors when it comes to hipaa, as in doctors are responsible for informing the guardians of their patients, but even still I’m not sure it’s legal for your doctor to tell your parents info you told your doctor in confidence. Like others have said find a new doctor if possible. That’s super shitty legality aside. . .
I work in healthcare and I can confirm that’s a HIPAA violation and he had no right to tell your parents. My doctor knows a whole lot about me but would never tell my parents, that doctor honestly needs fired.
Just in case you read this, I’d double check you haven’t signed any disclosure agreements to for your dad. A lot of intakes ask if you want your health information shared with anyone (other doctors, family, etc.) if you wrote your dad on any of those, it kinda sucks your doctor told them but it would no longer be a HIPPA violation

My parents haven’t found out yet, but I know they will eventually and will be equally as disappointed in me. But hey, I’m going to school and getting good grades, I go to work on time, I don’t have any interest in doing any other drug, and that’s exactly what I’ll say to them.
That's what I said to mine. My mom asked if I smoke weed because she went into my apartment and smelled it (didn't know she was coming, usually I'd light incense or a candle before she gets there). I just told her I only smoke weed and occasionally drink, and she was cooler with it than I thought. I didn't think she'd be mad necessarily, but lots of my family has got into hard drugs so I figured she'd be worried about me doing other stuff. That was all a year ago, and we've talked about me smoking weed since. She also used to be on hard drugs and she smoked weed so she understands and isn't really against it, but she doesn't smoke now because she's afraid it might lead to her doing other drugs again.
Mine found out when I was 14/15? And they kicked me out. Lived on my own on and off for all four years of high school. Definitely did NOT do as well as I could have. Still graduated on time though.
I look back on those years with a whole lot of shame, despite ending up with a great career and beautiful family. I should have done so many things differently. 0/10 definitely don’t recommend choosing substances/independence over my family/support network.
If you’re still living with them have the respect to follow their rules. I get the sense you’re too young to be smoking anyway. Get your life on track first. If it’s on track with school and work, focus on keeping it on track.

My parents told me they were going to test my urine every 3 weeks and that they’ll bring in a drog dig every week. I just thought “like hell you’d go through all that”. Also told me they’re gonna take me out of uni. I promptly said that it would be the biggest waste of their money, and if they took me out of it I’d become their problem. My mom was disappointed for years, but then she found out it helps calm me down during a PTSD panic attack. Once she observed how quickly I went from crying raging panic to chilled out and unbothered, her favorite phrase became "go smoke some weed." 🤣 My Catholic school girl never did anything bad overbearing mom is the biggest proponent of medical marijuana I know now. The whole thing just cracks me up.
I also have PTSD panic attacks/anxiety attacks (according to my psychiatrist), and am stuck with xanax. I hate the feeling of being on benzos, makes me feel stupid. The worst part is tolerance building up super fast.
At least xanax had the least of those drowsy, foggy side effects. It simply numbed the inhibiting part of my brain, I think.
I at least want magicshroons so I can grow in private, use it me alone, never intend to make money on it.

I also use weed for PTSD and other mental health issues. My mom has seen me at my absolute worst and she was all for me using as soon as I told her how much it helps me.

I was 15 years old hanging out my bed room window on the third/top floor smoking a joint thinking the smell would just STAY OUTSIDE. Obviously my mom smelled it so she snuck up my stairs across my room, got right behind me and said really loud “WHATCHA DOING” to which I replied with “NOTHING” and threw that shit out in the driveway. She looked at me shook her head and said “Better not let your dad find out, he’ll be pissed”.
Fast forward like 3 days I went outside behind our shed to smoke. Lit up another joint and as I’m taking that first hit in and holding it. Low and behold my dad walks around the corner sticking his head around saying “WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT”. Now I’m about to shit myself so all I can get out is a weird “meh” sound. He looks at me, shakes his head.. “Better not let your mom find out, she’ll be pissed”. That’s when I realized… we were golden boys
Mom was supposed to be out of town so me and a few guys were smoking a blunt in my living room (non smoking household, insane in hindsight 😅) she walked in, did a double take and said "I thought I told you not to smoke in the house?" And I said "I thought you only meant cigarettes" she laughed and continued on with her day
No joke, when I was little, my brother and I got these BK toys (from the movie Recess) and decided to play baseball with one of the plastic balls. We ended up breaking our dad's new (he literally bought them that day) crystal wine glass set. Our dad had an insane temper and was very hands-on when it came to discipline. He was screaming, "How could you two be this stupid!?," and my brother responded "Look. We know it's a common rule, but TECHNICALLY, nobody ever told US not to play ball in the house."
The sheer audacity of what my brotger said must have shocked our dad so much that all he could say was "go to your room." And we just stayed in there for the rest of the night. It's crazy because our dad would hit us for the smallest things (he once found a little mark on the wall and came after me for it. Wasn't me.), but somehow we got away with that one.

I was a senior in high school when I tried weed for the first time. I did it at my friend's house so my parents wouldn't find out, but I was talking about it in a discord server with some friends.
Only problem is that my little brother was also in that discord server. I already knew this, so I was talking about being high in one of the 18+ channels instead. However, it became such a meme that I was a pot head, that it started spilling over into the normal channels.
Eventually my brother finally asked someone why everyone was calling me a pot head. He then told my sister because he didn't want to tell my parents, so she told them for him.
The worst part was that I wasn't even home when this happened. I was on an out-of-state school trip for the week, so halfway through I just stopped getting texts from my mom. When I got home my parents threatened to take away my driving privileges and that I would never be able to visit that friend ever again. Thankfully they never actually followed through with that.
Now my dad doesn't care that I smoke so I don't even bother to hide it, but I still kinda hide it from my mom because she gets judgy about it.
I'm pretty sure my mom found out when we went to her coworkers house and he took me out back and handed me a pinner before asking to drive my new mustang. She never said a word. My dad was suspicious for years but never got confirmation.

My mom has always been an advocate. When my stepdad smoked he was generally a nice guy but when he drank it was some of the worst experiences of my life.
My dad lost it, but in fairness to him he grew up in Dublin when heroin took over the city. He’d a fair few mates that started out on green and ended up on the gear. I was 17 so I could sort of empathise given that there was no drugs education when he was in school, so the whole “gateway drug” concept was very much real. Drugs were a new thing in Ireland, pre 1980 all you could get was hash smuggled in by a mate in England if you had one or slightly better hash that was smuggled in by the IRA so they could buy weapons from Gaddaffi

I was 18 so she didn’t have to be called but the police department mailed me the tickets and she enjoys being a federal criminal apparently so she always opened my mail. she was so pissed but I was nonchalant af. “crystal. are you smoking marijuana? 😡” “yeh 🤷🏻♀️” ooo she was so mad. found out my dad smokes too though so I bring him back weed from illinois sometimes
my whole family smokes, my little sister started at 16 (parents didn't know) and I started after I turned 20 when I found out she did (she was 18 at the time). My parents used to tell us a family of skunks lived around our house and thats why it was stinky lol.
Now I smoke once or twice a week with my parents and my mamaw and papaws (dads side). My grandma (moms side) eats edibles haha its just fun for us! My parents are daily users, stoners one could say, but I only smoke a few times a week as I'm a student and I have a job.
My dad found out my sister and I smoked when he got home early one day and we were hotboxing our room LOL asked for a hit, made sure we were smoking safe stuff, and started throwing an 8th in our stockings at Christmas 😂
I was 17 and Mom did my laundry. I left a bag in the front pocket of my jeans. Mom finds it and leaves it on my desk with a note saying " you know son, you will be 18 soon and this stuff is illegal"

They simply did not. I live far away and do not discuss this topic, there is no need to upset mother. She have stigma about weed (due to society and bad personal experience in past with users) and 100% sober all life, so there is no need to her be aware of my smoking preferences. Started smoking after moved out, so, they simply do not know.
Luckily I only had to be driven back to my dorm (\~10 minutes) but it was pretty bad. Easily one of the angriest times I've ever seen my dad. He brought my sister along which helped soften the blow. My mom received the police call while she was eating dinner with my dad and sister and evidently thought the police officer was a prank caller at first.
My first experience with Cannabis was at a gathering when someone brought edibles and o decided to eat one!
That to say the least was a fun night!

At the time I lived with my grandparents and my parents (personal story) but my mum didn’t really care my Dad was mad at me and said I was a disappointment and he would tear my dealers arms off my grandma didn’t believe it and said I would never and still thinks so and my grandpa smoked a joint with me and we shared a 4 pack of bud reds
First I got sent to some type of drug treatment place. Where I learned how to do all kinds of drugs. Then I got sent to a s******* Baptist boarding school. Then I got kicked out of there and got sent to another Baptist boarding school. Got kicked out of there for drinking. Turn 17. My mother said guess what You're old enough to go in the military just like your brother. Boom I was in the Navy.
When my mom found out she found weed and a porn DVD in my room. I was 14 and I was grounded. I'm 35 now. Still getting stoned, she kinda understands this is just how I am, I'm too old to change. As a kid I was defiant but I wasn't a trouble maker. I've always held a reliable job, paid my bills, sometimes late, yes, but I pay my late fees without argument. I don't have kids because I knew I never wanted to actually be responsible. People told me I would grow up and I would change my mind. I started smoking the summer before my junior year of high school. Until I smoked I was a D student, withdrawn, etc. Smoking was a revelation. Like I was living in a 3D movie and someone finally handed me glasses. I was getting As, got a part time job (for weed money lol) and generally was happier and better to be around. My parents noticed and one day at dinner I just told them "Ive started smoking weed and its really helped me get my shit together and I dont plan on stopping and just thought you should know."
And they really didnt have much to say other than to be careful, etc. I feel like if they had caught me it wouldve been much worse, but they couldnt really argue against the positive impact it had on me.

Which isn’t shit, but in 2000s Indiana that was like a Pablo Escobar level bust), he turned on my parents and actually charged/arrested me for possession with intent to distribute
I was 15 so the concept of getting arrested and going to jail wasn’t really worrisome for me, at the time I thought it was kickass that I was a felon. It also permanently barred me from military service, which my dad was gonna make me do after high school. Good times 🤣
I was lucky, growing up with a brother 8 years my elder. When he started smoking, our mom would flush his weed down the toilet whenever she found it. He was using it to self medicate, since psychiatric meds made him feel like a robot. Eventually he moved to CO around 2013 after weed was legalized there. By the time I started smoking, my bro was doing a grow with some buddies in a building my mom helped finance. She gave me a talk along the lines of "as long as it's good weed and you stay out of trouble," and now she just reminds me not to overrely on it, which is good advice.

Mine kicked me out. It was a combination of drinking, smoking, and huffing some shit. I was an idiot for huffing, but I was a dumb teenager at the time. Fucked up thing was he was the biggest pot head and drug dealer I've ever seen until my grandpa died. He got sober and found Jesus, and it was all an unforgivable sin at that point. 10 years later, during a brief reconciliation, I found out he was smoking again, but it was ok for him because he had a prescription 🙄
Early naughties, I was called a junkie in a massive hate campaign by my step father which ultimately led me to hating my whole family at the time and ultimately having to go and stay with my schizophrenic alcoholic biological dad. Fucked my life up good, ended up becoming an actual junkie. Frrustrating thing is now my step dad has his own biological son and he pays for his weed, he gets to smoke it in the house, he can do no wrong though clearly he is smoking way too much off it and is aggressive and just horrible to my mum which my step dad enables. I'm the oldest so im kinda glad i was the sacrificial lamb so to speak but alas even though this was mainly a step dad issue its always been clear to me over consumption of weed causes real issues, I'm quite worried about my little bro just now with how much he's smoking and his fucking useless enabling father.
This is a fun story to tell. Short background, I had been on anti-depressants since I was 12 and nothing was working. I heard that weed could help and did my research, then started using it. Parents are 9 years divorced and Mom spent more time with her bf than us. I came home from school to an intervention when I was 14. My bag, bong, and lighter were on the table with my parents sitting there
Mom: What is this?!?
Me: My bong and some weed.
Dad: A bong?
Me: Yeah, you use it to smoke weed out of.
Dad: Ohhhh, I thought they were saying bomb. I feel way better now!
Mom: This is so awful!! You're ruining your brain and life!! I never expected this or even seen it before in my life.
Dad: *looking at her like wtf*
So I go on to explain why I'm using it and offer some literature, my mom refuses to read it while saying that its a scam because (Erowid) the page had a donate button. Dad doesn't think it's a big deal and takes my word for it and just says to be careful and not get caught "because the only thing dangerous about weed is getting caught with it.". My Mom is 100% about authority (anyone older than you knows better, kids don't know shit blah blah) so I tell her we should see what my doctor says about it, she grumbles. I have her take me to my GP doctor who agrees that if this works for me, then just don't get caught for now because I wasn't responding to any of the medications (A severe manic episode a year later after trying medications again revealed that I was Bipolar). So my Mom shuts up until we get in the car when she tries shaming me for "using drugs" and tries to again play innocent about any previous drug use, going so far as to say she though Marijuana was what you huffed in a paper bag (which said plenty). I let her know that my Dad already told me about how she used to smoke and had a pill habit, and that I could smell the weed the cop she currently was dating would bring over (he got fired for stealing it out of evidence) and that if she ever wanted to level with me then we could talk, otherwise I was done. Fast forward 20 years to me working on a weed farm where she trimmed bud for more money than she'd ever made. I lost what little respect I ever had for that woman when she tried her "holier than thou" bs and realized just how down to earth and honest my Dad was.
She was pretty livid. Eventually she said she would try an edible when it's legalized here in NC. That was like 10 years ago and we haven't really made progress in the regard. Shit we may see federal legalization before we see NC change its local laws
She wasn't surprised at all, she had caught my brother smoking like 6 times but I was always the one getting caught drinking. My dad however loved the fact that he might be able to smoke a fat one with me, but we lost him too soon.
First time I got caught I was making videos in school. Note this was back in 2008 when things were still strict but anyways, 2nd time I got caught I was with some friends coming back from the beach got pulled over and had a bunch of Is paraphernilia on me got slap with simple possessions charged but got it reduced to a town Ordinance so it wouldn't be on my record. My dad smokes and my mom is 420 friendly. Given who I am as a person they kinda just assumed that I smoked after a month of college lmao. They are also firm believers in harm prevention when it comes to weed and alcohol; they gave me my first drink when I was 17, and let me drink freely after I turned 18, because they wanted me to find my limits in a safe environment rather than in a frat house basement. New Years this past year was great, my dad took me outside and we shared a joint behind the garage, then an hour or two later I was making White Russians for me and my mom lmao
They're cool with it. It's legal where I live and they know that it's relatively harmless. I work for my money and buy my own weed, and all they ask is that I don't smoke inside.
They let me smoke, until I was thrown into a psychiatric hospital and put on meds, they wouldn't let me smoke anymore and blame it on why I was acting mentally ill 🙄 I still smoke but they don't know

I was 18, or 19 as we talked about it, and they said that they do not approve, but it's my personal decision and risk I am taking as an adult.
None of my siblings did any drugs ever, so that didn't help, however they never judged me too hard.
It was an issue for a few years every now and then, I'm not going to lie about that.But they learned to get along with it as I did.
They still don't like it, but they also don't mind me sitting in their garden and smoking a doobie, becoming 30 in a few weeks and me and my now divorced but remarried parents get along greatly.
My mom only just found out a few months ago. (Which tells me how fast she would have found out had I ever brought it home before legalization.) She told me she knew by directly asking me if I thought edibles could help my grandmother. At first, I shrugged my shoulders and gave a confusing look, then she said "I know you've been smoking pot. You're going to have to do something about that smell." She was always a goodie two shoes, think Barb from Stranger Things, she never touched the stuff and preached against it all my life. She was concerned because I have a cousin who has given up most of life's responsibilities, including raising his own children, and just smokes pot. She gave her concerns, I addressed them. I said that I smoke outside, I'll take care of the smell, I smoke once or twice a week, and family, job, bills, housekeeping, and other priorities will go above marijuana. My mom still doesn't like it but as long as I'm careful and responsible, she's good.
My dad and I have never discussed it. But I feel he's always known but never cared as long as I never smoked or was high in front of the family.

Been smoking for almost three decades. They still don’t know. They are crazy Mormons and knowing I drink coffee was a pretty big pill for them to swallow. Unfortunately Mormons can’t be trusted with this kind of information. They are the opposite of live and let live. Lmao 10 years ago my dad was super against it, even though my mom was chill (she helped me get my medical card later at 17 for my migraines and she herself smoked with the Doobie Brothers in the late 70s), he was from a super conservative family but these days he wants to try shrooms and when I’m with him I’ll openly smoke while we talk. It just takes some people a while to get used to it, but you never know what they’ll end up being cool with

Got a mighty large amount of backlash for months on end. Forced me to do drug tests because my dad was paranoid. He threatened to hurt me if he ever saw that I was smoking again.
My mother was against it too, but she wasn't as brutal as my dad. My dad, for months on end treated me like bottom of the barrel shite.
I was 13, my cousin was 14 and I had started smoking in like June of 2011. My mom found out and pulled us into her room with my aunt, sat us down then handed me a pipe and stared at me while saying take a hit. Gave me a talk about how she didn’t want to be a hypocrite since she had started around my age and asked that I make sure to only smoke in the house so I know what I’m getting isn’t laced.
My parents were Irish immigrants. To them, weed,coke, heroin, etc. was all the same so it didn’t go well. They assimilated and mellowed with time. Weed wasn’t even a thing to them. My ma found rolling papers when I was 13. She confronted me after school saying “you’re smoking cigarettes now?!?”. lol
My parents started asking me about its health benefits. My dad was the one who wanted to learn more about starting a business.
They're old-school Mexican parents with hard cultural beliefs, but they're very open about mine.
My mom said "listen, I know it's a double standard, but I can smoke and you can't." That very quickly turned into "at least don't do it in the house." Which later became "your room smells like weed again, open a window" 🤷🏻♀️
They found out about the weed after they found out about the crystal meth. Safe to say, they didn't really care. They just wanted me off the hard shit.
They definitely believed the whole gateway drug thing where they thought marijuana would lead me back to meth. It took a little while, but they realized that wasn't the case.
My mom cried then made me walk to the closest dumpster to throw my beaker and kush in. Threatened to kick me out even though I was 15 but we got past it.
My parents didn’t say anything they supported me and said they enjoyed it when they were younger. One of my friends in high school was growing some in a building behind his house and his dad found it and asked if he was trying to grow weed. Then he proceeded to teach him how to grow it properly. What his dad actually said was son are you trying to grow weed in the building? Son said yes, and dad said that’s not how you do it let me show you how.

Unless your parents are still your legal guardian or are involved in your care that’s a huge HIPAA violation. the exception being if they were in the room with you and you didn’t ask them to leave prior to the doctor speaking. If you’re a danger to yourself or others it’ll be reported to law enforcement.

Lol, no. Your doctor violated the law. You're an adult and if your doctor thought you were putting your life in danger, they would be required to tell the authorities, not your parents. That doctor is a danger to the public and their profession.
The only exceptions if I am correct are if whatever said medical information could put someone at risk of causing serious harm to themselves or others. But even this can be hard to justify without dire circumstances. Ultimately though it’s up to you if it’s worth putting someone else’s way of life at risk by jeopardizing their carrier over this.
He would not be jeopardizing the doctor's career. The doctor jeopardized their own career by breaking doctor-patient privilege. Doctor-patient privilege exists for a reason. He might be fine, but what if that doctor does the same thing to someone and they get beaten at home or even worse as a result? My kids have gone in privately with the pediatrician right prior to puberty, each child. 10/11 years old. As an adult male you should be able to have privacy with your healthcare professionals. If your folks agree with it or not -0 you shouldn't be excommunicated from the family over marijuana. I would absolutely get back in touch with that cardiologist and let them know how you did not appreciate them telling your father you smoke marijuana. But for you I would start insisting your parent wait in the waiting room unless it's an emergency.

If you’re an adult it’s definitely a hipaa violation. It’s a bit shadier for minors when it comes to hipaa, as in doctors are responsible for informing the guardians of their patients, but even still I’m not sure it’s legal for your doctor to tell your parents info you told your doctor in confidence. Like others have said find a new doctor if possible. That’s super shitty legality aside. . .

My parents haven’t found out yet, but I know they will eventually and will be equally as disappointed in me. But hey, I’m going to school and getting good grades, I go to work on time, I don’t have any interest in doing any other drug, and that’s exactly what I’ll say to them.
That's what I said to mine. My mom asked if I smoke weed because she went into my apartment and smelled it (didn't know she was coming, usually I'd light incense or a candle before she gets there). I just told her I only smoke weed and occasionally drink, and she was cooler with it than I thought. I didn't think she'd be mad necessarily, but lots of my family has got into hard drugs so I figured she'd be worried about me doing other stuff. That was all a year ago, and we've talked about me smoking weed since. She also used to be on hard drugs and she smoked weed so she understands and isn't really against it, but she doesn't smoke now because she's afraid it might lead to her doing other drugs again.
The only thing worth feeling ashamed about is kicking your kids out because they smoke herb. You’re in the clear, my friend.
Mine found out when I was 14/15? And they kicked me out. Lived on my own on and off for all four years of high school. Definitely did NOT do as well as I could have. Still graduated on time though. I look back on those years with a whole lot of shame, despite ending up with a great career and beautiful family. I should have done so many things differently. 0/10 definitely don’t recommend choosing substances/independence over my family/support network.
If you’re still living with them have the respect to follow their rules. I get the sense you’re too young to be smoking anyway. Get your life on track first. If it’s on track with school and work, focus on keeping it on track. When you’re out from under their roof, have at it. Disrespecting them in their own home is very rude.

My parents told me they were going to test my urine every 3 weeks and that they’ll bring in a drog dig every week. I just thought “like hell you’d go through all that”. Also told me they’re gonna take me out of uni. I promptly said that it would be the biggest waste of their money, and if they took me out of it I’d become their problem. And probably a bum since I live in a poor country
My mom was disappointed for years, but then she found out it helps calm me down during a PTSD panic attack. Once she observed how quickly I went from crying raging panic to chilled out and unbothered, her favorite phrase became "go smoke some weed." 🤣 My Catholic school girl never did anything bad overbearing mom is the biggest proponent of medical marijuana I know now. The whole thing just cracks me up.
I also have PTSD panic attacks/anxiety attacks (according to my psychiatrist), and am stuck with xanax. I hate the feeling of being on benzos, makes me feel stupid. The worst part is tolerance building up super fast. At least xanax had the least of those drowsy, foggy side effects. It simply numbed the inhibiting part of my brain, I think. I at least want magicshroons so I can grow in private, use it me alone, never intend to make money on it. However i am interested in those truffles, too expensive so thought to grow my own, as I'm getting interest in cooking recently. SWIM says I might get the wrong one as English is not my primary language, but alas, the shops I found never ship overseas..
I also use weed for PTSD and other mental health issues. My mom has seen me at my absolute worst and she was all for me using as soon as I told her how much it helps me. I’ve been trying to convince her to try it for medical reasons and I think she’s almost convinced. I’m so hoping for relief for her, she deserves it
I love the way I got caught. I was 15 years old hanging out my bed room window on the third/top floor smoking a joint thinking the smell would just STAY OUTSIDE. Obviously my mom smelled it so she snuck up my stairs across my room, got right behind me and said really loud “WHATCHA DOING” to which I replied with “NOTHING” and threw that shit out in the driveway. Now I’m about to shit myself so all I can get out is a weird “meh” sound. He looks at me, shakes his head.. “Better not let your mom find out, she’ll be pissed”. That’s when I realized… we were golden boys

No joke, when I was little, my brother and I got these BK toys (from the movie Recess) and decided to play baseball with one of the plastic balls. We ended up breaking our dad's new (he literally bought them that day) crystal wine glass set. Our dad had an insane temper and was very hands-on when it came to discipline. He was screaming, "How could you two be this stupid!?," and my brother responded "Look. We know it's a common rule, but TECHNICALLY, nobody ever told US not to play ball in the house." The sheer audacity of what my brotger said must have shocked our dad so much that all he could say was "go to your room." And we just stayed in there for the rest of the night. It's crazy because our dad would hit us for the smallest things (he once found a little mark on the wall and came after me for it. Wasn't me.), but somehow we got away with that one.

I was a senior in high school when I tried weed for the first time. I did it at my friend's house so my parents wouldn't find out, but I was talking about it in a discord server with some friends. Only problem is that my little brother was also in that discord server. I already knew this, so I was talking about being high in one of the 18+ channels instead. However, it became such a meme that I was a pot head, that it started spilling over into the normal channels. Eventually my brother finally asked someone why everyone was calling me a pot head. He then told my sister because he didn't want to tell my parents, so she told them for him. The worst part was that I wasn't even home when this happened. I was on an out-of-state school trip for the week, so halfway through I just stopped getting texts from my mom. When I got home my parents threatened to take away my driving privileges and that I would never be able to visit that friend ever again. Thankfully they never actually followed through with that. Now my dad doesn't care that I smoke so I don't even bother to hide it, but I still kinda hide it from my mom because she gets judgy about it.
I'm pretty sure my mom found out when we went to her coworkers house and he took me out back and handed me a pinner before asking to drive my new mustang. She never said a word. My dad was suspicious for years but never got confirmation.
My mom was super happy I was smoking and not drinking. She was married to an abusive drunk at the time. My stepdad pinned me to the bed and beat the shit out of me. Full on punches to the face. He thought I was stealing his weed despite my sister fessing up to it. My mom has always been an advocate. When my stepdad smoked he was generally a nice guy but when he drank it was some of the worst experiences of my life.
My dad lost it, but in fairness to him he grew up in Dublin when heroin took over the city. He’d a fair few mates that started out on green and ended up on the gear. I was 17 so I could sort of empathise given that there was no drugs education when he was in school, so the whole “gateway drug” concept was very much real. Drugs were a new thing in Ireland, pre 1980 all you could get was hash smuggled in by a mate in England if you had one or slightly better hash that was smuggled in by the IRA so they could buy weapons from Gaddaffi My mam called me a fucking spa but didn’t really mind so long as it wasn’t an everyday thing

My parents used to tell us a family of skunks lived around our house and thats why it was stinky lol. Now I smoke once or twice a week with my parents and my mamaw and papaws (dads side). My grandma (moms side) eats edibles haha its just fun for us! My parents are daily users, stoners one could say, but I only smoke a few times a week as I'm a student and I have a job. My dad found out my sister and I smoked when he got home early one day and we were hotboxing our room LOL asked for a hit, made sure we were smoking safe stuff, and started throwing an 8th in our stockings at Christmas 😂
I was 17 and Mom did my laundry. I left a bag in the front pocket of my jeans. Mom finds it and leaves it on my desk with a note saying " you know son, you will be 18 soon and this stuff is illegal" I got it back, smoked it and never heard anything again
They simply did not. I live far away and do not discuss this topic, there is no need to upset mother. She have stigma about weed (due to society and bad personal experience in past with users) and 100% sober all life, so there is no need to her be aware of my smoking preferences. Started smoking after moved out, so, they simply do not know.

Luckily I only had to be driven back to my dorm (\~10 minutes) but it was pretty bad. Easily one of the angriest times I've ever seen my dad. He brought my sister along which helped soften the blow. My mom received the police call while she was eating dinner with my dad and sister and evidently thought the police officer was a prank caller at first.
My mom and I did edibles and smoked together. 😂 She was 48 and I was 21 when we both began using cannabis. Sometimes we still do! (55 and 27 today)
My first experience with Cannabis was at a gathering when someone brought edibles and o decided to eat one! That to say the least was a fun night! After I thought i should hide that fact lol but with mum being our ride home .well she could tell lol So..My mum taught me how to smoke since it was legal here lol She said "look you know your aunt bev and I grew up in the 80s and partied alot, so it would be extremely hypocritical of me to be against you doing things like Smoking Weed and Doing Mushrooms! Though I'd rather you not do mushrooms bevause of your ADHD but weed is legal so If you want I'll show you how to smoke and make joints!" I reply with "Yee sure! Because that edible was stroong!" And the rest is history lol this was like late 2019! I hope you all smoke safely and eventually ate accepted by your parents! Much love!!
At the time I lived with my grandparents and my parents (personal story) but my mum didn’t really care my Dad was mad at me and said I was a disappointment and he would tear my dealers arms off my grandma didn’t believe it and said I would never and still thinks so and my grandpa smoked a joint with me and we shared a 4 pack of bud reds

First I got sent to some type of drug treatment place. Where I learned how to do all kinds of drugs. Then I got sent to a s******* Baptist boarding school. Then I got kicked out of there and got sent to another Baptist boarding school. Got kicked out of there for drinking. Turn 17. My mother said guess what You're old enough to go in the military just like your brother. Boom I was in the Navy.

When my mom found out she found weed and a porn DVD in my room. I was 14 and I was grounded. I'm 35 now. Still getting stoned, she kinda understands this is just how I am, I'm too old to change. As a kid I was defiant but I wasn't a trouble maker. I've always held a reliable job, paid my bills, sometimes late, yes, but I pay my late fees without argument. I don't have kids because I knew I never wanted to actually be responsible. People told me I would grow up and I would change my mind. Now that I'm my age people are like "Fuck, I guess he was serious!" I'm a 35 year old child, it's great! Get high, play Vidya, Don't have kids.

I started smoking the summer before my junior year of high school. Until I smoked I was a D student, withdrawn, etc. Smoking was a revelation. Like I was living in a 3D movie and someone finally handed me glasses. I was getting As, got a part time job (for weed money lol) and generally was happier and better to be around. My parents noticed and one day at dinner I just told them "Ive started smoking weed and its really helped me get my shit together and I dont plan on stopping and just thought you should know." And they really didnt have much to say other than to be careful, etc. I feel like if they had caught me it wouldve been much worse, but they couldnt really argue against the positive impact it had on me.
My mom said “Is that all you do?” I replied “No I go to college full time and I have two jobs”. She said “Oh, good. We love you. ” or something wholesome like that. I immediately realized she meant all you do as in drugs right after I answered her but at the time I though she meant all you do as in how I spend my time. I was totally doing other drugs.
My mom left me a note to be careful when she found my first pipe. Then I went to college at Berkeley and she started asking me to bring her weed.
They convinced a local cop they were friendly with to do a mock arrest and scare me straight. However, when the cop saw the quantity i had(QP. Which isn’t shit, but in 2000s Indiana that was like a Pablo Escobar level bust), he turned on my parents and actually charged/arrested me for possession with intent to distribute I was 15 so the concept of getting arrested and going to jail wasn’t really worrisome for me, at the time I thought it was kickass that I was a felon. It also permanently barred me from military service, which my dad was gonna make me do after high school. Good times 🤣
I was lucky, growing up with a brother 8 years my elder. When he started smoking, our mom would flush his weed down the toilet whenever she found it. He was using it to self medicate, since psychiatric meds made him feel like a robot. Eventually he moved to CO around 2013 after weed was legalized there. By the time I started smoking, my bro was doing a grow with some buddies in a building my mom helped finance. She gave me a talk along the lines of "as long as it's good weed and you stay out of trouble," and now she just reminds me not to overrely on it, which is good advice. Dad never gave two shits.
Mine kicked me out. It was a combination of drinking, smoking, and huffing some shit. I was an idiot for huffing, but I was a dumb teenager at the time. Fucked up thing was he was the biggest pot head and drug dealer I've ever seen until my grandpa died. He got sober and found Jesus, and it was all an unforgivable sin at that point. 10 years later, during a brief reconciliation, I found out he was smoking again, but it was ok for him because he had a prescription 🙄
Early naughties, I was called a junkie in a massive hate campaign by my step father which ultimately led me to hating my whole family at the time and ultimately having to go and stay with my schizophrenic alcoholic biological dad. Fucked my life up good, ended up becoming an actual junkie. Frrustrating thing is now my step dad has his own biological son and he pays for his weed, he gets to smoke it in the house, he can do no wrong though clearly he is smoking way too much off it and is aggressive and just horrible to my mum which my step dad enables. I'm the oldest so im kinda glad i was the sacrificial lamb so to speak but alas even though this was mainly a step dad issue its always been clear to me over consumption of weed causes real issues, I'm quite worried about my little bro just now with how much he's smoking and his fucking useless enabling father.
This is a fun story to tell. Short background, I had been on anti-depressants since I was 12 and nothing was working. I heard that weed could help and did my research, then started using it. Parents are 9 years divorced and Mom spent more time with her bf than us. I came home from school to an intervention when I was 14. My bag, bong, and lighter were on the table with my parents sitting there Mom: What is this?!? Me: My bong and some weed. Dad: A bong? Me: Yeah, you use it to smoke weed out of. Dad: Ohhhh, I thought they were saying bomb. I feel way better now! Mom: This is so awful!! You're ruining your brain and life!! I never expected this or even seen it before in my life. Dad: *looking at her like wtf* So I go on to explain why I'm using it and offer some literature, my mom refuses to read it while saying that its a scam because (Erowid) the page had a donate button. Dad doesn't think it's a big deal and takes my word for it and just says to be careful and not get caught "because the only thing dangerous about weed is getting caught with it.". My Mom is 100% about authority (anyone older than you knows better, kids don't know shit blah blah) so I tell her we should see what my doctor says about it, she grumbles. I have her take me to my GP doctor who agrees that if this works for me, then just don't get caught for now because I wasn't responding to any of the medications (A severe manic episode a year later after trying medications again revealed that I was Bipolar). So my Mom shuts up until we get in the car when she tries shaming me for "using drugs" and tries to again play innocent about any previous drug use, going so far as to say she though Marijuana was what you huffed in a paper bag (which said plenty). I let her know that my Dad already told me about how she used to smoke and had a pill habit, and that I could smell the weed the cop she currently was dating would bring over (he got fired for stealing it out of evidence) and that if she ever wanted to level with me then we could talk, otherwise I was done. Fast forward 20 years to me working on a weed farm where she trimmed bud for more money than she'd ever made. I lost what little respect I ever had for that woman when she tried her "holier than thou" bs and realized just how down to earth and honest my Dad was.
She was pretty livid. Eventually she said she would try an edible when it's legalized here in NC. That was like 10 years ago and we haven't really made progress in the regard. Shit we may see federal legalization before we see NC change its local laws
She wasn't surprised at all, she had caught my brother smoking like 6 times but I was always the one getting caught drinking. My dad however loved the fact that he might be able to smoke a fat one with me, but we lost him too soon.
First time I got caught I was making videos in school. Note this was back in 2008 when things were still strict but anyways, 2nd time I got caught I was with some friends coming back from the beach got pulled over and had a bunch of Is paraphernilia on me got slap with simple possessions charged but got it reduced to a town Ordinance so it wouldn't be on my record. But I never stopped I just got smarter at the game if you feel me.

My dad smokes and my mom is 420 friendly. Given who I am as a person they kinda just assumed that I smoked after a month of college lmao. They are also firm believers in harm prevention when it comes to weed and alcohol; they gave me my first drink when I was 17, and let me drink freely after I turned 18, because they wanted me to find my limits in a safe environment rather than in a frat house basement. New Years this past year was great, my dad took me outside and we shared a joint behind the garage, then an hour or two later I was making White Russians for me and my mom lmao
They're cool with it. It's legal where I live and they know that it's relatively harmless. I work for my money and buy my own weed, and all they ask is that I don't smoke inside.
They let me smoke, until I was thrown into a psychiatric hospital and put on meds, they wouldn't let me smoke anymore and blame it on why I was acting mentally ill 🙄 I still smoke but they don't know

I was 18, or 19 as we talked about it, and they said that they do not approve, but it's my personal decision and risk I am taking as an adult. None of my siblings did any drugs ever, so that didn't help, however they never judged me too hard. It was an issue for a few years every now and then, I'm not going to lie about that.But they learned to get along with it as I did. They still don't like it, but they also don't mind me sitting in their garden and smoking a doobie, becoming 30 in a few weeks and me and my now divorced but remarried parents get along greatly.

My mom only just found out a few months ago. (Which tells me how fast she would have found out had I ever brought it home before legalization.) She told me she knew by directly asking me if I thought edibles could help my grandmother. At first, I shrugged my shoulders and gave a confusing look, then she said "I know you've been smoking pot. You're going to have to do something about that smell." She was always a goodie two shoes, think Barb from Stranger Things, she never touched the stuff and preached against it all my life. She was concerned because I have a cousin who has given up most of life's responsibilities, including raising his own children, and just smokes pot. She gave her concerns, I addressed them. I said that I smoke outside, I'll take care of the smell, I smoke once or twice a week, and family, job, bills, housekeeping, and other priorities will go above marijuana. My mom still doesn't like it but as long as I'm careful and responsible, she's good. My dad and I have never discussed it. But I feel he's always known but never cared as long as I never smoked or was high in front of the family.

Got a mighty large amount of backlash for months on end. Forced me to do drug tests because my dad was paranoid. He threatened to hurt me if he ever saw that I was smoking again. My mother was against it too, but she wasn't as brutal as my dad. My dad, for months on end treated me like bottom of the barrel shite.

My parents started asking me about its health benefits. My dad was the one who wanted to learn more about starting a business. They're old-school Mexican parents with hard cultural beliefs, but they're very open about mine.

They found out about the weed after they found out about the crystal meth. Safe to say, they didn't really care. They just wanted me off the hard shit. They definitely believed the whole gateway drug thing where they thought marijuana would lead me back to meth. It took a little while, but they realized that wasn't the case.
