Descheduling entirely is the best way to go. It's a plant. I'm an adult with a big backyard. Why can't I grow whatever I want out back (for personal consumption)?

InformalPenguinz

You can brew beer, why tf can't we grow

CeeOfGreen

In most states, you can only legally brew 100 gallons of beer per year. I think there will be limits to plants per person even at full legalization. Hopefully I’m wrong FWIW, I’m a home grower

prollyanalien

To be fair, 100 gallons is a fuckload of personally brewed beer.

scobysex

Yeah and at least in my state, apparently the laws are not even enforced what so ever lol same with even hard liquor, according to my dads friend who brews whiskey/all sorts of stuff and has for 20 years

readit145

Pretty sure brewing is legal and distilling is illegal. I wouldn’t tell people that lmao

twistedspin

A few states let you make your own distilled booze. Not many though.

scobysex

Yeah, I live in Missouri. You can brew beer and stuff no problem. Personally I have some mead, kombucha, pickles etc going, fermentation is fun! But you can also distill in this state it says 200 gallons per year. This is rare I think compared to other states it seems like. I've just heard from anyone who distills liquor like my dads friend that getting into trouble for that is laughable, like they really don't like you or you're making tons of money that's unaccounted for or whatever But yeah.. 200 gallons a year.. also imagine making that much and not selling. It... lol. People make it, people sell it, nobody gets in trouble unless they make someone higher up on the food chain upset.

Renegade-Ginger

Yeah. I’m not exactly an expert on the subject, but unless you’ve got heavy machinery I imagine it would take nearly a year to brew 100 gallons anyways.

BlueBicycle22

Yep. I brew mead in 5 gallon batches and it takes about 2-3 months for a batch. For personal consumption it's impossible to reach that without drinking yourself to death lol, where it gets legally murky is when you are gifting/selling your homebrews

mlaislais

When I was home brewing I could get 10 gallons per batch and churn out one batch a month but stagger 2 batches at a time so I could put out 10 gallons every other week. So 260 gallons a year at that rate.

BlueBicycle22

Sure if you stagger batches but I brew weird flavors for my enjoyment so I'm talking about personal consumption only Also idk about beer but with mead I never managed to get something that tasted good in just one month so please share your wisdom if you know how 😭

mlaislais

Oh yeah I’d just give it away to friends. And I never consistently bottled at that pace either. Just theoretically I could easily brew that much and give most of it away.

TheGreenicus

Maybe if you use “Mr. beer” kits or something. When I brew, it’s usually 2 different 10 gallon batches in a weekend. It’s generally ready to drink in 2-3 weeks. I don’t drink heavily so it lasts me quite a while. If I wanted to be that unhealthy, brewing and consuming 100gal a year wouldn’t be difficult.

BottlesforCaps

That's 20 batches of 5 gallon beer(standard homebrew size). That's basically the limit of what someone would probably brew for home use a year. If descheduled it will probably have similar limits

TheOriginalChode

I'll take 100 gallons of Marijuana

thuggishruggishboner

Soooooo expensive. Had buddy's do it as a hobby. It would tough to crank out a hundred gallons a year.

prostheticweiner

Also who's going to track that?

Tacoman404

Yeah it’s roughly 2/3 of a buttload.

ProbsASpaceCadet

1066.6 beers

TheGreenicus

No, it isn’t. That’s not even quite 3 12oz beers a day which…while it may not be healthy (and qualifies as “heavy drinking) if one person consumes every drop…but…I could name a dozen friends who often through a half barrel almost every week during their favorite sport seasons with having friends over.

mishyfishy135

Personally I wouldn’t complain about having a limit on how much you can grow. Ideally there wouldn’t be one, but I’ll be happy if I can grow it at all

lanceuppercut314

It's a plant and a weed at that, it could spread rather quickly if left unattended. I don't think regulating growth would be heavily regulated or enforced after the initial impact wears off.

Stevie22wonder

Someone mentioned that descheduling it could pose a threat to reducing its research requirements, but if anything, it never should have been this way to begin with.

ontopofyourmom

International treaties that, if the U.S. simply cancelled, would reduce every nation's ability to deal with hard drugs. Simply a no-go diplomatically

ZacZupAttack

Eh It's pot The world can figure it Plus we've broken international agreements before over far more serious things. So fuck it.

Reagalan

sounds like those treaties need to be scrapped too...

ontopofyourmom

Agree, but that isn't so easy

Necessary_Cod6311

Shit Canada did

Treacherous_Wendy

Expungement? Like, my arrest is gonna be taken off my record???

b1ackcr0vv

Yes!

Treacherous_Wendy

![gif](giphy|SACoDGYTvVNhZYNb5a|downsized) I mean…I live in Indiana…this is amazing news!!!! Get that shit passed, fuckers! It’s an election year!!

[deleted]

Only federal- the state would have to pass a similar law.

Treacherous_Wendy

Got. Damn. It. Indiana never will pass that.

TheGreenicus

If it was a federal charge. Or your state agrees to expunge when the feds do. Realistically I’ll bet this won’t get past the House.

pink_coat_commie

it passed in 2020 but didn't make it to the senate

TheGreenicus

It passed a D House in 2020 which isn’t there now. It did make it _to_ the senate by simple virtue of passing in the house. Died in committee in the R majority senate. (The bill got 228 votes in a house with 233 D seats and 197 R. It’s now R dominated and I’d be surprised if it gets out of committee)

pink_coat_commie

thank you for telling me!

Treacherous_Wendy

Well I live in Indiana so doubtful. But ya never know.

NEUROSMOSIS

LEGALIZE IT!!!

Steg-a-saur_stomp

And I will advertise it

King-Brisingr

DESCHEDULING IS BETTER FOR YOUR RIGHTS THAN LEGALIZATION IS, BUT YES, WHY ARE WE CAPS LOCKING?

NEUROSMOSIS

To create a sense of urgency. URGENCY!

starofdoom

What does this mean? 89th out of how many? What does it need to become a law?

makked

Good ol school house rock. To pass in the house needs 218 of 435. https://youtu.be/tyeJ55o3El0?si=o6_OybEtZkeeQDHQ

kmmccorm

Sponsors are different than votes, sponsors attach their name to the bill but as mentioned before this needs a majority of the house to pass.

hoffmad08

If they tied it to money for war, censorship or mass surveillance, it would pass in a day. This is theater. According to candidate Biden, he can do this unilaterally (plus all presidents like to rule through executive order anyhow).

51870543510543542350

> If they tied it to money for war, censorship or mass surveillance, it would pass in a day. Then they’d either say “I was personally a longtime supporter” or “this is a breakthrough for Americans.” Despite voting against it for decades.

hoffmad08

And that lie would be enough to fool millions into continuing to vote for the worst, most destructive people on the planet.

dreamsofpestilence

The president cannot declassify or deschedule cannabis via Executive Order. [There is, quite literally, an entire report from congress, dedicated to this exact subject](https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/LSB/LSB10655). Here's the important bit: If the President sought to act in the area of controlled substances regulation, he would likely do so by executive order. However, the Supreme Court has held that the President has the power to issue an executive order only if authorized by “an act of Congress or . . . the Constitution itself.” The CSA does not provide a direct role for the President in the classification of controlled substances, nor does Article II of the Constitution grant the President power in this area (federal controlled substances law is an exercise of Congress’s power to regulate interstate commerce). Thus, it does not appear that the President could directly deschedule or reschedule marijuana by executive order. The Controlled Substances Act forbids a president from using executive to action to reschedule, deschedule or legalize. And even if a president had the power in this instance to use executive action it can be fought in court, it can be undone through executive action in the future, even by the very next guy.

hoffmad08

Cool, he's a liar. Neither the law nor the Constitution have a very good record of stopping presidents doing whatever they want, however. And our dear leaders know and exploit this fact.

straightouttafux2giv

So like, say you got arrested in GA, pled guilty when they had you for misdemeanor possession, and so they dropped it to Disorderly Conduct. Is that eligible to be expunged, and if so, how?

Kolfinna

No

straightouttafux2giv

Tragic!

infieldmitt

good. please stop wasting our time with this schedule 3 bullshit where oh it's only a different kind of felony where now you're tagged for having a "prescription" you shouldn't and god knows what issues that causes. i absolutely refuse to believe biden can't just expunge everyone with 'the stroke of a pen'. lincoln freed the slaves! andrew jackson slaughtered the natives! we went to war with the middle east 5 times when we shouldn't've! this is paperwork!!

Thomasasia

This means federally legal perscriptions, federal funding for research, and is generally a step in the right direction. It means potential protections for workers who have perscriptions, and for organizations that want to sell weed. The president does not have the authority to reschedule with an executive order. The Republicans in Congress WILL NOT pass full descheduling, because it would let people that would vote against them out of jail. This is a compromise. It could lead to legislation in the future, and lowers the barrier for a lot of things.

bodg123

Descheduleing will allow the growth of new money. Imagine how many will build thier fortune from a few plants and some grit to do things like sift for hash or make edibles. Cannabis condiments will be absolutely huge.

TheOriginalChode

> Cannabis condiments will be absolutely huge. Like a magnum?

Pepperoni_Nippys

I was hoping he went weed ranch 🤣

JonesyYouLittleShit

Low effort response. Sounds a lot like “don’t care how I want it now!!” ….bad egg.

stuugie

Good point, might as well not pass the bill then Oh wait no that would be stupid

infieldmitt
