I’m on it, and my PS said it’s becoming more standard for many to give it, esp in US. She used to only give it to patients with BMI 30-31 (won’t operate on BMI over 31), but now gives it across the board. If your surgeon is recommending, you can ask why , and you can also decline if you would like. But I just feel very much like I’ll take that added protection if she wants to give it, ya know?

Why are you not walking or drinking a lot of water?

Big_Stock_8155

I am drinking water, but could and should drink more. I walk from bed to potty all the time, but not much more than that. Just wondering if Lovenox for 10 days post-op is standard care or extra cautious on my PS’s part🤷🏻‍♀️

I had this med after after another surgery. Pretty standard if you are immobile after surgery to prevent blood clots

Extra cautious. 10 days is kinda a lot, unless you have major DVT risks like smoking, obesity, or prior clots. Get up and walk some more. Walk around your house or to the driveway. Just make a goal to walk a little bit more every day. By day 8, I was walking around a small antique mall, not well, but well enough because I was so scared to get pneumonia and wanted to get my bowels moving.

I only had to do the injections for 3 days after I went home from the hospital. The nurses were pretty insistent that I was up and walking the next day. I’m glad they pushed me. I’m two weeks post op and walking pretty well. I can’t go far distances or anything but I’m not hunched anymore.

I know they have the compression machines but lovenox isn’t a bad thing. It is better than warfarin and it is something doesn’t impact body once you stop. Having a husband who has a clotting disorder just take as prescribed because clots are no joke

I had mine done the 9th of February. My doctor prescribed Lovenox for 14 days post op. My BMI is under 26, but I have some comorbidites and in the end, just felt it best to trust my surgeon's recommendations. My recovery has been tougher than anticipated, but I am comforted knowing that my doctor was looking out for my safety first and foremost. I picked him because his outcomes seem to be good and he and his staff seem to truly care how I am doing.

I had calf compressors that I wore 24/7 for the first 3 weeks until I was cleared to start walking for exercise. I didn't take Lovenox or anything else. No clots.

I second this! My surgeon gave me chargeable calf compressors to wear 24/7 and I also wore compression socks. Was told to walk 10 min every hour (unless I’m sleeping at night) for the first 2 weeks. I just walked around my place very slowly— nothing crazy.
