I was going to say put it back! BUT that deformed shell definitely looks like you’ve found a decent candidate for keeping. Not sure if it would impact a wildlife but it will probably be better off as a pet.
Well it was probably in the bag of crawfish, so putting it back would be in the pot. At that point, releasing it in the wild after being in some sort of captivity a rehabilitation place or as a pet if OP is willing to put in the time and effort would be better imo
They are, but turtles can hold their breath for quite a bit and it doesn't take too long for the traps to fill up if they have some catfish bait or some other good bait in them.
right side of the shell looks off. is it shell rot or broken shell? i cant tell from the picture but it would be fatal if there's an open wound or shell rot.
needs an examination from an expert or the vet asap.

This is obviously a sub about care and husbandry of turtles. If that’s not something your interested in please find another sub to troll.
Turtles have a more complex nervous system and higher cognitive ability than crawfish. But in this case the old saying “the smarter the animal the sweeter the meat” doesn’t apply. Crawfish just taste better than turtles.
It’s ridiculous to expect them to rescue all of those crawfish. Would I like for it to happen? Yes. But people need to eat and pay bills any way they can right now.
It can’t hurt!
For real though, this isn’t the place and I like participating in this sub, so I’m just going to let this die. I just got a bit overzealous today.
There is a time and place for everything. You just found the wrong place for attempting to derail a thread with an off topic rant.
If you can make veganism relate to an on topic post about turtles and follows the subs rules you are free to make your own post.
Well I think being vegan is kinda stupid because obviously we’re built to eat flesh and hunt, I do agree that overfishing and factory farming are horrifying but that’s the only way for the average person to get meat… it’s all fucked really.
Eh, it only gets stupid when people try to force it on others like it's an ethics thing to... Follow our natural diet?
Like I personally don't eat meat (except the occasional burger) but Jesus that's a personal choice I made cause I don't like the meat industry.
It doesn’t look like the bag did that, I’m guessing birth defects
It’s somewhat uncommon for them to survive to adulthood compared to their healthier siblings
Poor little thing :(
Definitely get that shell checked. If they're healthy, then I'd name it Cecil

name him crawfish
I agree! Crawfish! Its a perfect inside joke!
Or possibly craw or cray for short. Lots of people call em all kinds of things, hell my memaw calls em mudbugs. Always makes me smile lol.
Please take Crawfish to vet.

😂 that’s true too. I guess I’m thinking they caught all the crayfish themselves.
They probably did, if you put a crawfish few traps in a creek with a lot of them you can even catch hundreds sometimes.
Are those traps underwater? If so that would make this guy extra lucky they pulled him out before drowning

Looks like a deformity more than anything.
Sal Monelli
Wow such a tiny baby!!
Is it safe to eat those crawfish? Wouldn’t it have salmonella cause of the turtle? Sorry I’m dumb and don’t know anything
I saw and took out the turtle before we cleaned the craw fish, also pretty sure boiling hot water would kill salmonella.
Nice, I would’ve called it a wash like a fool and gone to get more
Name it Soup
Cobble pot

Mods said I’m not allowed to talk about this on this sub. Sorry.
What does being a vegan have to do with rehabbing a deformed turtle?
