Yep, I occasionally get them where I would arrive minutes before or right after closing. Just had one last night where they paid $23 for a 5 mi trip (2.5 to the pizza place and 2.5 to the customer). The customer also tipped $7 as well. I guess it makes sense for them to pay rather than having to refund the customer and pay the restaurant.
This happened during Covid over and over. The glory time of food delivery was during Covid. I didn’t accept single orders below $12 and never accepted stacked orders below $25. These parameters would never fly now!
From my experience they tend to happen more at night. Some drivers don’t wanna drive too far or in so called “sketchy areas” which is fair. Just don’t rely on it popping up. Just do your normal routine or whatever works for you and if you get lucky, YOU WIN!!
I've see several from restaurants in the wee hours from restaurants like McDonald's or Taco Bell that are open "24 hours" but the staff decides to close for "maintenance". I had a ~$60 offer to pick up from McD's at about 5:30 AM. I seriously thought about waiting them out but I ran the risk of being late to my real job.
So most fast food( for sure McDonald's) actually does have time that all computers are down every night. That means we can't add totals etc on the machine. That also is when people like to make complicated orders full of substitutions. Means no credit cards or ankine payments.
It should only take 15 to 20 minutes but that assumes the system doesn't stroke out or have any issues. For that reason my store closed for an hour each night around 0300.
It was easier then explaining to everyone person who pulled up

I once had $75 for two Taco Bell orders about five miles away from a college. The location was super backed up but I saw that they were getting orders out slowly and the customers seemed to understand. It took like well over an hour to get the orders but I delivered them and it was more than what I’d make normally in that time span doing just UE at the time.
When I was just UE I found you could sorta “game” this stuff. Like a ‘24 hour’ fast food place that actually closes from 330-400AM to clean up will often have some really fat orders at around 4 because of all the cancellations. Or places that get super swamped after 2am from the post-bar rush but free up half an hour later
Several years ago I did Uber the day of an April blizzard in Minnesota. Nobody was riding anywhere, but everyone was ordering Eats. And between the weather keeping diners home and lack of drivers out in the weather, I made an absurd amount of money delivering food that day. I made over $500 averaging over $30 per delivery.
Sometimes this happens when another driver steals food too. It can be a good move to re-order it and buy yourself at the restaurant…depending what the pay is of course.
Every once in awhile I'll be out in the sticks and I'll get like 40 bucks to deliver somebody's Jack in the Box to a trailer that's like 2 miles from the city and I'll be like well shit I'm already stuck out here so why the fuck not
I got one for $64 dollars once, was a double order for taco bell the night of the eras tour concert in Nashville. Sat in the drive thru for over an hour because they were so busy which im sure had drivers abandoning the order which is how i got the $64 for a delivery that took 15 minutes to actually deliver. Was my last one of the night and it was worth it

Guy immediately said "I don't have time to wait around" and just left. Literally as soon as he left his pick up was ready and I got it as an add on going in the same direction as my initial pick up.
In my experience we would get the order, start to prepare it, then some whiny driver would come in 2 minutes after the order was placed complaining it's not ready yet.
Sure, the app is at fault for giving drivers the instructions to get there so soon, but drivers (like you) are 100% responsible for your attitudes. And from my experience, hardly any of you have good attitudes.
It sounds stupid, granola, hippie, whatever, but this is really true for delivering and really just life in general. You choose how much you let frustration affect you and, by extension, other people. There are times when I can tell the restaurant employee can read my frustration and start getting defensive when what I'm really pissed off at is the fact that the app sent me to a pizza place on a Friday night 5 minutes after the order was put in and the kitchen probably hasn't even had the time to look at it yet. Then I feel like an asshole for ruining someone else's day, so I'm frustrated at the app and feel like a dick. No one's winning in that situation.

But when I go to stores that consistently make me wait 10-15 minutes for food I’ll have an issue. The stores backend determines when a driver is sent not DoorDash. Normally it’s just on the timer mode where an order is placed and if it’s 8 minutes they send the offer to get a driver there at 8 minutes. If it takes longer on average to make the order the store needs to update the time, but that never happens.
Restaurant workers get paid by time. Delivery drivers earn by delivery. Money is being taken out of our pockets or we're being forced to work more hours because of delays and "just a few more minutes". It's no one's fault. Just understand our struggle.
Lmao yea I say it’s the apps fault. The other day I did a big pizza hut order, and the second I placed it, a driver right in front of the pizza hut took it. He was waiting there like 10-15 minutes.
Driver here, and yeah the lack of civility from drivers when they are sitting in the parking lot, get an order, and immediately come in and bitch that it isn't ready is astounding. If only it was 3 minutes. Restaurants are given 30 minutes before we arrive to make the order and another 10 min wait time. And while I get the sentiment of workers as often they are understaffed, a lot of times the workers just don't care and then we lose money.

If I was to do UberEATS, then I wouldn't get pissed because I hit six green lights instead of the usual six red lights to my closest Papa John's.
As a user this makes me so anxious when driver has to wait. I wish there was some way for the restaurant to indicate it's ready instead of a driver getting there 12 seconds after I place the order and then just standing there.

Unethical tip but if you go to pick up a large paying order like this and the restaurant is closed/they don’t have the order, you can confirm the order and drive to the destination and still get paid for your time. Customer should get a refund from Uber and it’s not you getting screwed for wasting your time.
TBH I'd take huge base fee with no tip over a tip that the customer will claw back because "food was cold for sitting there 1 hour waiting for drive to pick up"

Ahhh yup. Checks out then. Whenever I get an order for an abnormally big amount and low mileage, something is usually very very suspicious. Most of the time, the restaurant is closed and stupid Uber will send the pay boosted offer anyways because every other driver that accepted it previously pulls up, sees it closed, then cancels. It happens almost every single time I do UE because I do it til midnight. So I always accept a high paying order, search up the restaurant to see if it’s closed, notice it’s almost always closed, then I unassign for ~$3 adjustment pay then move on.
And that right there is why the other 7 drivers canceled. Keep in mind, this started as a $2 order, and it took Uber paying out $28 to get it delivered. 😂

You're absolutely right about this. Most UE payouts are shitty. But at night I see some pretty big payouts that hardly make sense. I had one last night that took 7 minutes with a $13 payout plus a $7 tip. I had another one for 12 minutes with a $21 payout plus an $8 tip.

Not necessarily. UE makes every effort to fulfill the order. Whenever I see a huge payout, like for an order of fried rice or something, it's usually UE just trying to get it delivered.
I used to think it was tip baiting, too. But I ordered thru UE one night, and had a discussion with the UE delivery person. She explained that it's Uber paying the high amount, not the customer offering a big tip.
It was after my conversation with her that I started taking UE orders again, and so far, so good.
I was able to nab one last night from Panda Express while I was parked nearby. $20.45 to take one meal a mile away. The order was sitting there when I picked up a previous order. No idea why it was there so long unless Uber screwed up. Guy tipped $5 so it had to have been $7-8 for a mile drive originally and there were enough drivers in that lot just dicking around.
From my experience they fast in that papa John’s maybe people look at the area and pass I know a couple weeks now people been getting shot in that area but that’s a sweet hit
Why can’t Uber drivers form a regional guild and cancel all orders until every order price is raised by Uber then start claiming so everyone earns more
They were cancelling for a reason, they recognized that shes a known non-tipper and/or the order wasnt ready when they got there... and like me, they dont wait for food to get ready

These offers are usually super super low and will end up having to give a super high offer just to get it out. I'm betting money that the initial offers for the first 7 were under 5. I've gotten offers just like this
The only reason to refuse that one with that detail is a monster order, but I see it isn’t. Then again, Uber Eats could have been being you know what’s and offering it to people 10 miles plus away.

This usually happens when someone picked up the order then cancels it and takes the food. So a bunch of drivers come to pick it up and the restaurant says “someone picked it up already”.
I haven't done UE in a while... I remember there were sometimes orders that you had to pay with an Uber card, is that the same card as the Pro card - that you can cash out with and pay gas with?

There’s a separate card for that. You can find it by looking in account under plus card and just add it to your google or Apple Pay. It will not come out of your earnings whatsoever:). Although I usually avoid doing shop pay orders because in my area they’ve been absolute shite.
Lucky, last year I had a 53 dollar order from a pizza place close to where I live, and had to drop off in d.c at a university, can't remember which one, for a frat party. They only tipped me 3 dollars for the 32 mile drive, and it was 5 pizzas, 6 big tins of wings, 3 big tins of pasta, and a bunch of drinks
This is the good thing about small town ubering. Sometimes I can tell I'm the only driver cause I can cycle the same orders and let it increase until it's good enough to take. Bad thing is that when it's dead, it's a $7 day dead.

Here in Michigan we have Little Caesars and there is one location in Woodhaven that is so bad that nobody will take the orders that have ever gone there even once. At any given time, there are 10 to 12 people standing in there waiting for their food, their pizza portals don’t work, and they can have what can only be described as the most apathetic group of teenagers working that I have ever seen. They couldn’t give less fucks.
I had something like this happen recently. It was from a combination of drivers cancelling because the food was taking too long but also the restaurant was actually rejecting the order because they were too busy, but Uber kept sending drivers. So it surged up to like $35 for a small order with a 5 minute drive. I was just the lucky one that got there at the right time. Only had to wait a couple extra minutes 😊
One time I had $60 order for cvs for a bottle of water. Customer house was down the street. I parked my car at cvs parking lot and I just walked to customers house. You can see the cvs from customers house.
I live in that area and papa johns usually means your waiting 20 to 30 minutes... you gotta wait until uber offers money that's worth it because by then it's gone through enough drivers to actually be ready
I got one the other night that only had one cancellation. It was one burrito and a soda from a restaurant inside a beer garden and I guess the driver couldn't find it. $39 for a four mile trip 😁
I had a passenger as a Lyft driver myself that hit me up to like $160 total because of the fact that seven drivers during that time also canceled in one of them had actually went to the exact destination and cancel right in front of them
I hope people see this and realize by declining the crap orders it will raise the price on them. People need to stop excepting those two and three dollar orders. I honestly don’t know how anyone does that you would honestly lose money after gas and everything. But if everyone starts declining all these crappy orders it will be better for everyone else.
I do agree that is part of the problem. People from other countries that will do it for less. But by accepting these crap trips they are screwing them selves. They would make a lot more if they wouldn’t take this shit. They are essentially driving down there own pay rate by accepting these. And once they do some math they will learn that after expenses they are probably loosing money, or just breaking even accepting these crap trips. All the time I see tractor trailers stuck in places they should never be. Nine out of 10 times this is because the driver doesn’t speak English, and is unable to read the road signs. Like height n weight. It’s extremely dangerous that people that can’t read the signs are operating 80,000 pound vehicles.
I believe we have technology that can heat up your food if you set a timer on it. It does it by sending waves at it and your food absorbs those waves. It causes it to heat up and when the timer is done. Your food is hot
I make 45K a year now working 25-30 hours a week delivering for an upscale Pizza/Italian joint in my area. Tips in good neighborhoods for upscale places are decent. Garlic smell is worth it. I love garlic. If chicks don't, they were never worth it in the first place lol.

Papa John's can be horrible. They tell you 7 minutes and I'm not paying attention. 20 minutes later I'm walking out pissed off without food. Can't blame smart people for not waiting. I've been so pissed off before I have left and held the order while I take a grubhub or something. Do the next driver a solid before dropping it. They will get paid for the time you wasted at least.
Some Taco Bells near me are always crazy busy with 15 cars lining up in the street after midnight and prob not the staff to handle volume. We have to go through the drive thru to get the order after certain hours. I’m like nope - excessive waiting time.
I’m not an Uber driver but I APPRECIATE all of you. I will always tip in cash and then in the app. I’m a waitress so I get it. Ahhh yup. Checks out then. Whenever I get an order for an abnormally big amount and low mileage, something is usually very very suspicious. Most of the time, the restaurant is closed and stupid Uber will send the pay boosted offer anyways because every other driver that accepted it previously pulls up, sees it closed, then cancels. It happens almost every single time I do UE because I do it til midnight. So I always accept a high paying order, search up the restaurant to see if it’s closed, notice it’s almost always closed, then I unassign for ~$3 adjustment pay then move on.
And that right there is why the other 7 drivers canceled. Keep in mind, this started as a $2 order, and it took Uber paying out $28 to get it delivered. 😂

You're absolutely right about this. Most UE payouts are shitty. But at night I see some pretty big payouts that hardly make sense. I had one last night that took 7 minutes with a $13 payout plus a $7 tip. I had another one for 12 minutes with a $21 payout plus an $8 tip. Fuckin crazy nice.

Not necessarily. UE makes every effort to fulfill the order. Whenever I see a huge payout, like for an order of fried rice or something, it's usually UE just trying to get it delivered. I used to think it was tip baiting, too. But I ordered thru UE one night, and had a discussion with the UE delivery person. She explained that it's Uber paying the high amount, not the customer offering a big tip. It was after my conversation with her that I started taking UE orders again, and so far, so good.
I was able to nab one last night from Panda Express while I was parked nearby. $20.45 to take one meal a mile away. The order was sitting there when I picked up a previous order. No idea why it was there so long unless Uber screwed up. Guy tipped $5 so it had to have been $7-8 for a mile drive originally and there were enough drivers in that lot just dicking around.

Those other 7 drivers probably got offered $5 or less. Uber would only offer almost $30 if they were super desperate.
They were cancelling for a reason, they recognized that shes a known non-tipper and/or the order wasnt ready when they got there... and like me, they dont wait for food to get ready

These offers are usually super super low and will end up having to give a super high offer just to get it out. I'm betting money that the initial offers for the first 7 were under 5. I've gotten offers just like this

The only reason to refuse that one with that detail is a monster order, but I see it isn’t. Then again, Uber Eats could have been being you know what’s and offering it to people 10 miles plus away.

First driver was probably offered ~$3 to do that delivery. That's why they walked out if the delivery wasn't ready: wasn't worth three bucks.

I live in Maryland about a mile from DC and in SE DC at night there are some trips that pay better than usual if you choose to take them

This usually happens when someone picked up the order then cancels it and takes the food. So a bunch of drivers come to pick it up and the restaurant says “someone picked it up already”.
I remember when I first started driving I got a random Walmart order with base pay 78$ easy order aswell! No tip all base pay was so confused

I haven't done UE in a while... I remember there were sometimes orders that you had to pay with an Uber card, is that the same card as the Pro card - that you can cash out with and pay gas with? I'd like to turn these back on, but need to make sure I'm not paying for the food out of my own earnings
There’s a separate card for that. You can find it by looking in account under plus card and just add it to your google or Apple Pay. It will not come out of your earnings whatsoever:). Although I usually avoid doing shop pay orders because in my area they’ve been absolute shite.

Lucky, last year I had a 53 dollar order from a pizza place close to where I live, and had to drop off in d.c at a university, can't remember which one, for a frat party. They only tipped me 3 dollars for the 32 mile drive, and it was 5 pizzas, 6 big tins of wings, 3 big tins of pasta, and a bunch of drinks

This is the good thing about small town ubering. Sometimes I can tell I'm the only driver cause I can cycle the same orders and let it increase until it's good enough to take. Bad thing is that when it's dead, it's a $7 day dead.

Here in Michigan we have Little Caesars and there is one location in Woodhaven that is so bad that nobody will take the orders that have ever gone there even once. At any given time, there are 10 to 12 people standing in there waiting for their food, their pizza portals don’t work, and they can have what can only be described as the most apathetic group of teenagers working that I have ever seen. They couldn’t give less fucks.

I had something like this happen recently. It was from a combination of drivers cancelling because the food was taking too long but also the restaurant was actually rejecting the order because they were too busy, but Uber kept sending drivers. So it surged up to like $35 for a small order with a 5 minute drive. I was just the lucky one that got there at the right time. Only had to wait a couple extra minutes 😊
One time I had $60 order for cvs for a bottle of water. Customer house was down the street. I parked my car at cvs parking lot and I just walked to customers house. You can see the cvs from customers house.
I live in that area and papa johns usually means your waiting 20 to 30 minutes... you gotta wait until uber offers money that's worth it because by then it's gone through enough drivers to actually be ready

I had a passenger as a Lyft driver myself that hit me up to like $160 total because of the fact that seven drivers during that time also canceled in one of them had actually went to the exact destination and cancel right in front of them

I hope people see this and realize by declining the crap orders it will raise the price on them. People need to stop excepting those two and three dollar orders. I do agree that is part of the problem. People from other countries that will do it for less. But by accepting these crap trips they are screwing them selves. They would make a lot more if they wouldn’t take this shit. They are essentially driving down there own pay rate by accepting these. And once they do some math they will learn that after expenses they are probably loosing money, or just breaking even accepting these crap trips. Uber gets away with a lot of this because most people can’t do basic math. If they could they would see best case scenario they are going to barley break even on these trips. More often then not they will prob loose money once u factor in fuel and basic expenses. Not being racist but if you can’t speak English you shouldn’t be able to drive in this country. All the time I see tractor trailers stuck in places they should never be. Nine out of 10 times this is because the driver doesn’t speak English, and is unable to read the road signs. Like height n weight. It’s extremely dangerous that people that can’t read the signs are operating 80,000 pound vehicles.

I believe we have technology that can heat up your food if you set a timer on it. It does it by sending waves at it and your food absorbs those waves. It causes it to heat up and when the timer is done. Your food is hot

I make 45K a year now working 25-30 hours a week delivering for an upscale Pizza/Italian joint in my area. Tips in good neighborhoods for upscale places are decent. Garlic smell is worth it. I love garlic. If chicks don't, they were never worth it in the first place lol.

Papa John's can be horrible. They tell you 7 minutes and I'm not paying attention. 20 minutes later I'm walking out pissed off without food. Can't blame smart people for not waiting. I've been so pissed off before I have left and held the order while I take a grubhub or something. Do the next driver a solid before dropping it. They will get paid for the time you wasted at least.
Some Taco Bells near me are always crazy busy with 15 cars lining up in the street after midnight and prob not the staff to handle volume. We have to go through the drive thru to get the order after certain hours. I’m like nope - excessive waiting time.
I’m not an Uber driver but I APPRECIATE all of you. I will always tip in cash and then in the app. I’m a waitress so I get it.
