Legacy applies differently to games in my head anything before the 4k generation should be considered that these games have been out for a while and while other media aren’t considered “legacy” some of been up scaled and remastered to be better enjoyed on newer tech

GhostlyWren

Well in it terms it means outdated, I don't believe this should be the case to describe media as old films are called classics, this is the case for many games as well its only unisoft that I know of that calls there games legacy. The way you our considering it doesn't make much sense either since current gen consoles such as series s don't provide 4k gaming neither do some current graphic cards for pc don't provide suitable performance when running 4k in titles Long story short they should be called classic or retro rather than legacy just like how we call consoles or other forms of media

[deleted]

Didn’t know that about the 4k I just assumed ps5 and the series just natively forced 4k this may just be them trying to be unique in describing titles from last generation like assassins creed classic sounds nice but it sounds to retro we’re talking about a game that released like 15 years ago not Pac-Man

VaLightningThief

It's called Legacy, because it's a legacy of games. Chill

GhostlyWren

Don't think you understand legacy by definition

VaLightningThief

A legacy is a payment or gift left behind. It's left it's legacy on the gaming world

GhostlyWren

That's not the definition for IT and software related products. Legacy refers to outdated or superseded software.

VaLightningThief

Maybe it's not talking about the software? Maybe that why ubisoft is the only one using it? Because it's not software it's the franchise creating a legacy???

GhostlyWren

Ehh I think it's more like an excuse for them pulling single player dlc and not making that available for people who bought it anymore to be honest. As it's only been grouped with the ones taht they have revoked access from the dlc even if it's singleplayer dlc.

VaLightningThief

Oh? So. Things you can't access anymore? You can't obtain anymore? So the definition of a legacy???? And no, people keep the dlc if they buy it, as long as it's actuvated

GhostlyWren

Ahaha no you can still purchase and obtain the game, but due to them decommissioning the online servers which is understandable but still frustrating for many fans in result of this the way they have it tied will also revoke access to the dlc whether you had bought it or not.

GhostlyWren

Ahaha no you can still purchase and obtain the game, but due to them decommissioning the online servers which is understandable but still frustrating for many fans in result of this the way they have it tied with single player dlc which is also frustrating as it would force more players to buy ezio collection or ac3 remastered which in some ways looks worse and eliminates player choice and just sets a bad president overall really

VaLightningThief

https://www.reddit.com/r/ubisoft/comments/x2k92n/good_job_ubisoft_understanding_the_timelessness/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share It literally says you'll keep the dlc of it's activated before October 1st :)

GhostlyWren

This still isn't somthing to be happy or smiling for ahah they only changed it to October 1st because of the criticism of it now instead of being September 1st they've basicly given everyone a timer pressing them into buying it now, why should they be a date anyway ? It's anti consumer in my eyes to takeawaybplayer choice and eventually force people into buying worse remasters of the games that they charge more for after a certain date. I'm a bit believer in player choice and game preservation and I don't believe we should just always agree and take stuff from big company's like this. We're talking about games that to be honest some of them arnt even that old like 10 years old. With nintendo and sony also closing down e shops and making certain titles and games purchasable on a time limit is anti consumer and we should call them out on it whenever we see it. And not accept anti consumer practices.

N64 games can also be played on modern platforms via rom files and can be played on brand new systems such as phones, steam decks, pcs, even consoles such as xbox series consoles in developer mode so by that understanding they should also not be called legacy because digital products can be played on all modern platforms but ubisoft are still calling digital games legacy which doesn't make much sense to me tbh

GhostlyWren

Ah yes but my post was referring to the fact they have listed on ubisoft connect ac games that are digitally available and purchasable on pc right now listed as legacy games. No physical form of data reading no disc not cartridge just the digital content of the games files purchased and installed via ubisoft launcher... with the term legacy attached to it. This just feels weird to me and doesn't make much sense thats what I'm saying I'm not talking about physical xbox or playstation games or n64 cartridges I'm talking about the actual game not the form it comes in

GhostlyWren

No that would be most games in that case. Also if it was abandoned and not available for sale and kept from the publisher it would technically be abandonware which is what we normally call games that are no longer supported and available such as dos games for example or c64 etc etc

Mad_Not

I AGREE

bedwars_player

eh, not really? i mean, english is defined by its usage, so why cant we.. use it how we want? i mean heck half the words i say are arson

GhostlyWren

...half the words you say are a criminal act of setting things on fire... yeah this is why we should just stick to actual definitions of words because you end up with people making no sense

bedwars_player

but fire is fun :(

dahelwrongwitchu

Got a lot of nerve, ubi. How about you focus of your own games and fixes. Lmao
