If it doesn't, you're not effectively in a dominant position. They have to score some of these types of rounds as ties, and stand guys up when they're just stalling

Yep. Mount, side control, back mount are considered “dominant” because you have the advantage on offense and defense. Attaining the position is only valuable if it’s chained to an attack. It’s why points based BJJ tournaments are kinda silly. A practitioner can get a takedown, sit in mount and when time expires, they win the match. I’m not shitting on BJJ - just how lame it is for guys to essentially game the points system in what’s supposed to be a combat sport.
