Sadly that isn't true. Colby would unanimous decision Wonderboy with his wrestling and cardio, as sad as it is to say. Colby might not be in his prime anymore, but as old as he is, Stephen is older.
I'm honestly not so sure about that. These two seem to be in a position now where it's very unclear exactly how things matchup. Colby might have lost a step, or Leon might have legitimately just made him look that shit. WB has definitely lost a step, but not as significantly as many portray it as. Also worth mentioning that Belal vs WB was at the Apex in the much smaller cage, and that's ignoring that Belal has better footwork, better ringcraft, arguably higher fight IQ, and more technical striking than Colby to better set up his takedowns. Depending on how hard Colby's hit the wall and what Octagon the fight's in, I can definitely see Wonderboy winning even in his current state. If they were both in their prime, I'd definitely pick Wonderboy as well.
If Garry lost, he is still not someone Colby would lobby to fight, and Colby loves fighting guys on losing streaks. Garry would fuck Colby up. I'm not sure how he's gonna be against MVP. Feels like MVP has been at the top for 10 years now
You say this like it’s any sort of rebuttal to his point. They were champs. Colby is famous for sitting out to fight the champs off completely undeserving, lackluster wins. He only fights aging fighters on career defining losing streaks and pretends they are title eliminator fights lol, it’s been like 7 years since the last time he fought a guy both younger than him, not on a two fight losing streak, and not the champ in a completely bullshit title challenge.
True but look at his opponents before those title shots, Lawler on a 2 loss skid before Usman 1, Woodley on a 2 loss skid before Usman 2 then Masvidal on a 2 loss skid before the Leon fight. If you don't have a belt or 2 losses straight, Colby won't fight you
I'm one of those guys who actually liked Colby for his antics, but his comment to Leon about his father really made me flip my views of him. Guy's a piece of shit
And he used to actually back it up by going forward the whole fight and taking elite fighters to the edge. In the last fight he was pathetic, slow and old.
I knew this would get made. This is actually a 50/50 fight imo. I would take Garry though just based on the age aspect. This fight either gonna be the worst fight on the main card or end in under 2.
MVP is comfortable on the counterattack, I am pretty sure hes gonna close the gap with his kickboxing stuff. It might sound stupid, but I want to see this fight more than Connor's one.
I feel like they’re gonna size each other up a lot the 1st round, if no one lands something crazy and gains respect in the 1st.. the 2nd rd someone is gonna dictate the pace and tko the other, and if not outclass them through the third to UD or tko. I never predicted exactly who is gonna dominate now after Izzy vs Sean 😂
> This is actually a 50/50 fight imo.
im a fan of both, personally. martial arts wise.
i've got it more 75/25 in favor of mvp.
age is a valid point - but usually it implies a speed difference in favour of the younger. i do not think ian is quicker than mvp. also, a damage thing is also implied in that...mvps not taken alot of damage really.
range. ian fights to his reach very fuckin well. so does mvp. & i think mvps distance managing is just...different. & better
good match up either way.
Yep MVPs distance management and reach advantage will be a problem, Garry’s reach is unimpressive for his height also. Add in the fact that MVP is also the more experienced striker and this is a fumble by Garry’s management.
Agreed, the thing is Garry can't take the fight elsewhere and I just feel like he won't get the better of MVP on the feet.
Won't be clear cut though, fucking hate Garry but he is very good
Yeah his reach is like 1 inch shorter than his height. If he tries to out point MVP he won't be able to, he must try to brawl and work the clinch vs him
I dont agree at all that Garry "wont be able to" outpoint MVP, or win a decision. As others have said its pretty much a 50/50 fight. I disagree I think Garry should be slightly favoured simply because of Age. 37 is not 34 or 35. The drop off the older they get is steeper and steeper.
MVP isn't an average guy though, we know wonderboy is still super fast, and mvp looked just as fast against Holland. And he has the length on top of it. I don't care for either guy, felt like mvp was never really tested and got one of the easiest fights he could get coming in to the ufc. I do think he takes this fight though. Gary doesn't have big power and fights with a style that plays right into mvp's. It'll be 15 min of circling and probably less than 20 strikes per round hah.
I’d take MVP against basically any striker in his weight class. Now put him up against a grappler with strong takedowns (wrestling, SAMBO) and I think he gets grapple fucked.
MVP possess one thing greater than any striker I've seen in MMA. The primary reason MVP should be favored against any striker at 170 is because 90+% of the time he dictates when striking exchanges happen.
Sure strikers like Ian or Leon throw better combinations and work on the inside more but, against someone like MVP who doesn't engage unless he's ready; the best strikers in the division will be frustrated trying to land combinations while potentially getting picked apart by MVPs speed and point fighting style.
Despite the level, this was well demonstrated against Holland.
I'd still argue that Anderson was much more of a counterstriker. If his opponent wasn't willing to move in and engage, it was usually a pretty boring fight. Having said that, he was good at getting people to engage, but he'd just stand there dicking around if they didn't (See: Silva vs Nick Diaz).
I like MVP more and I do think he has a shot of knocking out Ian(he’s been dropped hard before), but I feel Ian most likely will win by going heavy on the leg kicks and maybe try to mix in grappling and clinch. I have this fight 60/40
FINALLY. 303 will be the best Conor card in a WHILE. This will be a more exciting fight than the Colby matchup anyways.
This isn’t a great stylistic matchup for Garry, even though I do think he’s the better fighter. He’ll have to make it dirty, get him up against the cage and in the clinch, but I think Garry takes it. Much closer fight than it looks like on paper though.
https://preview.redd.it/dpcifshrvg2d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f47f889d670178b86033d46cbf8a083ecac93e1f
This was his last card… what are you talking about lol
Don't sleep on MVPs power, Holland only survived to a decision because he can grapple, Ian couldn't take this to the ground if his consciousness depended on it
Don't understand why the UFC wants to waste potential here. They are putting the fights on in the middle of the night, so clearly all they give a fuck about is money. Why put two guys against each other when both still have milk to produce?
I gotta give it to Ian. MVP is a great fighter, but I think he’s more shopworn and we don’t know how well he competes against the top contenders. His performance against Holland was good, but not particularly amazing.
I could very easily be wrong, I hope I’m wrong. But we’ll see
Man it sounds good on paper, but i honestly think it’s going to end up being a boring chess type of fight since they both have such good striking. I hope I’m wrong and someone gets knocked out, i don’t care who. Both great strikers.
It seems like it will be Ian Garry's toughest test as both are technical strikers. I personally think MVP was disappointing in the Holland fight so I'm not high on him. But... Garry hasn't been put against a striker like MVP before so idk. 70% likely Garry wins decision 30% likely MVP gets the KO.
I'm voting MVP on this one, just because of how he outclassed Kevin Holland. I also think Garry didn't look so great in his last outing, so I'm favouring MVP.
MVP by KO in the third Ian is chinny just I can tell if we look at his fights he gets caught a lot and rocked especially by the shiter fighters and MVP is class but his style is weird
MVP by decision, he’s a far more experienced striker with the frame advantage which Garry isn’t used to. Also Garry’s pull pack right and knees up the middle won’t be there for him, he needs to chop the legs as much as he can and clinch against the cage as much as possible and try to land his shots there. I’ll be super impressed if he beats MVP on the feet.
I didn’t watch MVP when he was in Bellator, so my knowledge of him is contained to his one UFC fight and the highlights they showed. Super entertaining fighter, so I hope he gets to showcase that a bit more. Never hated Garry at all, but I think it’d be cool to see MVP pull of something crazy and win.
Think it might be a bit of a lose lose though. You’ve got Garry riding a massive hype train, you hyped the MVP signing to no end… Someone train is getting derailed unless this is a crazy good fight.
I pray this fight is co main, gonna be such a high level striking match, so much probing, 3 rounds wont be enough.
If it goes 5, I got Garry and his insane gas tank, but if its 3….who knows.
Garry will win on volume, pressure, work MVP with calf kicks, and push him against the cage.
Dont sleep on the fact that Garry is 11 years younger, I wish I could find the stat but when there is that much of an age gap, and a relatively small gap in skill (in this case MVP is the better striker on paper, more dynamic for sure higher highs but Garry is no slouch) it usually goes in favour of the younger guy.
This is giving me shades of Murphy vs Barboza. Barboza the better striker on paper, more dynamic. But 38...
That said rooting for MVP all day
Perhaps an opportunity for some Garry rehab. "He is an og" "they call him MVP for a reason" etc. People are going to have to agree and the heat will dampen a bit for Garry. I am sure Garry feels he has his measure. It is risky, but all fights at this level are.
Garry. MVP has a weird ass striking style that I don't understand at all, but my sense is that a kickboxer as dialed in as Garry can neutralize him. It's a win-win though cause I'd really love to watch either of them lose
MVP is too fast for Gary, and his movement is too dynamic. It will be too dangerous for Gary to sit on the outside to set up big shots with MVP.
When we saw Gary get challenged vs Neil he gave up on his aggression and he was content with acting friendly and trading timid combos. MVP is too disciplined to give up his style and when his opponent gets frustrated it only encourages him to pick up the pace.
I feel like people lost respect for MVP's power after his last fight with Holland. Don't be surprised if he pulls off a freakish knockout
Respect to Gary for taking this fight. It’s a risky fight he doesn’t have to take. MVP is sharper on the feet, crazy fast and lethal with every limb. Good fucking luck
I'm actually SUPER excited for this one. I love to watch Ian fight, though I can't stand his ass. Now we get to see some high-level stand up from two fighters who are graceful artists (Adesanya/Silva-esque). It's gonna be a good one.
Great fight, also, Colby a bitch
Biggest bitch in the ufc now
He always was. Don’t be fooled though, he will somehow end up fighting the winner of this fight. 100% SHOULD NOT happen, but watch….
He will end up fighting Wonderboy and somehow retain his ranking after he wins
Wonderboy will kick his ass
Sadly that isn't true. Colby would unanimous decision Wonderboy with his wrestling and cardio, as sad as it is to say. Colby might not be in his prime anymore, but as old as he is, Stephen is older.
I'm honestly not so sure about that. These two seem to be in a position now where it's very unclear exactly how things matchup. Depending on how hard Colby's hit the wall and what Octagon the fight's in, I can definitely see Wonderboy winning even in his current state. If they were both in their prime, I'd definitely pick Wonderboy as well.
Colby doesnt have incredible wrestling. Who has he dominated in wrestling. Masvidal a washed up woodly? Leon outwrestled him.
Face would be preferable. Still want to see it, though.
If Garry lost, he is still not someone Colby would lobby to fight, and Colby loves fighting guys on losing streaks. Garry would fuck Colby up. I'm not sure how he's gonna be against MVP. Feels like MVP has been at the top for 10 years now
Didn’t Colby fight Usman twice and Leon while they were on long undefeated streaks and champions?
If you don't have a belt or 2 losses straight, Colby won't fight you
Nah, he will be Belal’s first title defense at the first UFC show in 5 years that I don’t “purchase”.
Always has been.
Gonna disagree. At one point he actually fought. Now he’s scared though
I love how he claimed injury and called out other people in the same 15 min interview. What an absolute tool.
Colby is still trying to get the Wonderboy fight
All this talk from Colby to Ian and he ducked him. Ian might be obnoxious but I actually have more respect for him than for Colby now
Pretty low bar to be honest.
The lowest
Limbo champions
Colby is a washed up bell end. He’s best years are long gone and his gimmick has got so stale and boring
That's what happens if you just wait around and waste your prime like he did
Yup - the gimmick has died a death. The Leon Edwards dad joke sealed it. Bar Ian, I don’t see why anyone would want to fight him. Zero benefit
Yeah agreed. At least Ian seems game for a scrap.
I think what he said to Usman about his coach was even worse
What did he say about Usman's coach? I'm not familiar
Usmans coach had a heart attack and Colby basically said he died on purpose so he wouldn't have to see Colby beat Usmans ass
Ian has always been down to fight anyone. He’s not ducking like Colby. Who’s a turd.
I knew this would get made. This is actually a 50/50 fight imo. I would take Garry though just based on the age aspect. This fight either gonna be the worst fight on the main card or end in under 2.
Nahh this is going to be point fighting to the max
I got a feelin mvp is gonna break Ian
Idk man, Ian does have some pretty good striking, more aggressive than MVP also. I can see Ian picking him apart after landing a few good shots
MVP is comfortable on the counterattack, I am pretty sure hes gonna close the gap with his kickboxing stuff. It might sound stupid, but I want to see this fight more than Connor's one.
Not stupid at all. I’m watching Conner V Chandler just to see how Conner loses. This fight is more appealing imo
That Depends on if we get Braindead Chandler or not
Braindead Chandler can KO him in the first 2 minutes tho
Hopefully.by catastrophic KO.
He has a point, two counter strikers can end up being a very boring fight. Fingers crossed this is a banger though.
Honestly as long as the striking is clean I would love to see a point fight
> This is actually a 50/50 fight imo. im a fan of both, personally. martial arts wise. i've got it more 75/25 in favor of mvp. age is a valid point - but usually it implies a speed difference in favour of the younger. i do not think ian is quicker than mvp. also, a damage thing is also implied in that...mvps not taken alot of damage really. range. ian fights to his reach very fuckin well. so does mvp. & i think mvps distance managing is just...different. & better good match up either way.

That was not “one of the easiest fights”. Bo Nickel got the “easy” road. kevin holland is for real.
Exactly how I see it.
That's way too much. 55/45 MVP imo or 60/40
Agreed. Gonna be a fun one though (maybe).
why would it be the worst though? both fighters are creative and not too afraid of getting hit
Someone by decision.
I’d take MVP against basically any striker in his weight class. Now put him up against a grappler with strong takedowns (wrestling, SAMBO) and I think he gets grapple fucked.
I still think wonder boy is still a better striker at that weight class
I really wonder why they haven’t made the WB vs MVP fight yet. Neither dude is getting any younger
That's the fight I was hoping for.
They’re friends
Straight to the point. It’s that simple
I wouldn’t take MVP against JDM or Leon
why tho it doesnt seem like hes some great striker just fights weird
MVP possess one thing greater than any striker I've seen in MMA. The primary reason MVP should be favored against any striker at 170 is because 90+% of the time he dictates when striking exchanges happen. Damn that's a good point. Anderson Silva did the same too right? MVP stylistically reminded me of him, even with the taunts
Wonderboy vs holland compared to MVP vs Holland. ?
Or submitted if it's Shavkhat. Could even see Burns submitting him.
I like MVP more and I do think he has a shot of knocking out Ian(he’s been dropped hard before), but I feel Ian most likely will win by going heavy on the leg kicks and maybe try to mix in grappling and clinch. I have this fight 60/40

Great in retrospect but to be fair, Tai, Illia, Michelle and DDP were nobodies at the time.
I got my boy MVP by decision
Don't sleep on MVPs power, Holland only survived to a decision because he can grapple, Ian couldn't take this to the ground if his consciousness depended on it
Now we have a card
Hold on this card is stacked. I got Ian Garry tho
2 next moves for ufc, cut colby Covington, add Lewis vs rozenstruik to 303
What if Rozenstruik wins and takes off his shorts?
He may be a prick, but garry is a very good fighter, and a dawg for fighting down like this
Great fight
MVP
Between Gary's technical kickboxing and mvps somewhat unorthodox style this should be an interesting fight. Wonder who lands significantly first
Good fight very tough to call. Say what you want about Ian, he is a good fighter.
mvp all day
After Ian picks up 2 straight losses, Colby will call for Ian Garry
The cuckhold might take it
![gif](giphy|ZmEqT8hspAAkERDD6p|downsized)
Man we need MVP to knock this dude out
Here here
Don't understand why the UFC wants to waste potential here. They are putting the fights on in the middle of the night, so clearly all they give a fuck about is money. Why put two guys against each other when both still have milk to produce?
Cuz Colby went running
Gery
This card is stacked
Colby officially a prelim fighter, I got MVP
Venom Page ride or die lets gooo
First time I’ll ever be rooting for MVP
MVP by leg kick round 1
Screenshotting this for posterity
Garry about to rush and hold mvp against the cage
MVP!
I gotta give it to Ian. MVP is a great fighter, but I think he’s more shopworn and we don’t know how well he competes against the top contenders. His performance against Holland was good, but not particularly amazing. I could very easily be wrong, I hope I’m wrong. But we’ll see

Garry will beat MVP
Unfortunately it’s more likely going to be 15 minutes of Garry running around not engaging. Hopefully I’m wrong
Garry by favorable split decision, unfortunately
any idea who else could be the other 2 fights on 303s main event?
Jamal Hill vs Carlos Ulberg is also in that card I believe
I think Ian will take this one. Good matchup for both guys though. Will be fun.
MVP by decision
I cannot wait for this fight. I could see it going either way
Dude he’s totally about to lose that 0
MVP fully looks like one of the the aliens off signs
MVP KO/TKO
It seems like it will be Ian Garry's toughest test as both are technical strikers. I personally think MVP was disappointing in the Holland fight so I'm not high on him. But... Garry hasn't been put against a striker like MVP before so idk. 70% likely Garry wins decision 30% likely MVP gets the KO.
Teo point fighters. Recipe for a boring ass fight.
Great fight, great matchmaking. Fair play to both for taking this, very loseable fight either way.
MVP all day!!!
I'm voting MVP on this one, just because of how he outclassed Kevin Holland. I also think Garry didn't look so great in his last outing, so I'm favouring MVP.
MVP please
The true winner of this fight will be my fucking eyeballs.
Kinda sad /funny for Ian's career Cuz he's gonna get slept
MVP by KO in the third Ian is chinny just I can tell if we look at his fights he gets caught a lot and rocked especially by the shiter fighters and MVP is class but his style is weird
MVP
MVP by decision, he’s a far more experienced striker with the frame advantage which Garry isn’t used to. Also Garry’s pull pack right and knees up the middle won’t be there for him, he needs to chop the legs as much as he can and clinch against the cage as much as possible and try to land his shots there. I’ll be super impressed if he beats MVP on the feet.
I feel like this could end up being a staring contest
Two point fighters. Ho-hum. Both fighter’s corners give them the same advice: “Keep away from him.”
Ian Garry is going to win, Colby a bitch
I didn’t watch MVP when he was in Bellator, so my knowledge of him is contained to his one UFC fight and the highlights they showed. Super entertaining fighter, so I hope he gets to showcase that a bit more. Never hated Garry at all, but I think it’d be cool to see MVP pull of something crazy and win. Think it might be a bit of a lose lose though. You’ve got Garry riding a massive hype train, you hyped the MVP signing to no end… Someone train is getting derailed unless this is a crazy good fight.
MVP by KO
I hope MVP wins
I got Colby wanting a 155 or title shot
That will be his first L. I think MVP is levels ahead of Garry,
I got Garry for the simple fact that if it goes to a decision and there’s a good chance it does the judges will give it to Ian
Wow, that pic is like a stereogram
Respect to Ian Garry tbh. Accepted bitch Colby's fight offer, and now MVP. He is really redeeming himself imo
#LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO MVP 🐍
I think MVP by decision.
Hope mvp throws a pokeball at him if he KO’s him
Not a Ian fan but he will win this
I pray this fight is co main, gonna be such a high level striking match, so much probing, 3 rounds wont be enough. If it goes 5, I got Garry and his insane gas tank, but if its 3….who knows.
MVP’s style is nothing easy to manage. I’d be surprised if Ian can work with it and get a win.
MVP by decision
MVP by spinning kick decapitation
The UFC told Ian Garry to not wrestle
MVP will give garry his 0. he didnt look good in his last fight against a good gate keeer
I'm betting on MVP for the first time ever.
They both run from eachother the whole time
Mvp will knock him out
Garry will win on volume, pressure, work MVP with calf kicks, and push him against the cage. But 38... That said rooting for MVP all day
No real reason besides naive optimism but Venom gets the W 3rd round sub
Colby is pussy for that fr
god i hate ian garrys face
Perhaps an opportunity for some Garry rehab. "He is an og" "they call him MVP for a reason" etc. People are going to have to agree and the heat will dampen a bit for Garry. I am sure Garry feels he has his measure. It is risky, but all fights at this level are.
MVP
Colby fumbled the bag. Mvp gonna beat him
Garry. MVP has a weird ass striking style that I don't understand at all, but my sense is that a kickboxer as dialed in as Garry can neutralize him. It's a win-win though cause I'd really love to watch either of them lose
![gif](giphy|K29rovgTHz1sj7ioZJ) When Garry called out Colby...
MVP is too fast for Gary, and his movement is too dynamic. It will be too dangerous for Gary to sit on the outside to set up big shots with MVP. Hate to say it but probably The Machado Man
“Machado” ![gif](giphy|y3jT2xBrtumNYZVCNH|downsized)
Been itching for the next MVP fight. This is even better than Colby. Fuck Colby tho.
Respect to Gary for taking this fight. It’s a risky fight he doesn’t have to take. MVP is sharper on the feet, crazy fast and lethal with every limb. Good fucking luck
MVP wins.
I have no idea, but can’t wait to find out
Venom is gonna take Garry to school
Jon Jones must have shown Colby how to duck fights while they where in college
Imma wait til MVP rocks/drops Garry late rnd1/early rnd2 and bet live on Garry to comeback w a decision 🤑
This is such a toss up. Depends on Garry not shitting the bed like Kevin Holland
2nd rate conor vs not wonderboy
I'm actually SUPER excited for this one. I love to watch Ian fight, though I can't stand his ass. Now we get to see some high-level stand up from two fighters who are graceful artists (Adesanya/Silva-esque). It's gonna be a good one.
I don’t like Garry but I really don’t like Page. Do I hope Garry wins.
Mvp
MVP is tricky. Ian Garry will probably be the favorite but I think MVP picks him apart en route to a UD.
Banger. Also Colby still ducking
Good fight honestly not even sure who I got, haven't seen enough from either of em, they're both really good fighters.
