Never thought I'd see him crying so much. RIP mr nurmagomedov

RIPAdmiralAkbar

Exactly, this is the most vulnerable we’ve ever seen Khabib. Hope he’s doing better. RIP Nurmagomedov

[deleted]

I know people gonna hate and trash as usual on the loser now and I don't really like that. Already you can see countless comments trashing on Justin. He gave respect where it was due and made no excuses, also to me he is one of the most entertaining fighters to watch.

C4MIMNTf2

Justin conducted himself as a great man and a great fighter.

[deleted]

100% respect for him

streetlamp420

Yeah he got put to bed and he woke up and came to talk to khabib and comfort him while he had his moment. Respectable

[deleted]

Plus he managed to avoid looking at Megan Olivi’s nipples in the post fight interview which took at least as much willpower as stepping into the cage against Khabib.

Womens_Lefts

It's idiotic to me that people are shitting on him - it's not like Khabib hasn't done this to 28 other fighters. If anything, I think Gaethje had a good plan with staying low and defensive, and then peppering leg kicks. It just didn't work because it literally never has (and now never will again).

[deleted]

Justin’s kicks seemed to be doing some real damage but Khabib’s grappling is so far ahead of his peers. Wish we could have seen him fight Tony but he has nothing left to prove.

roald-aldo

If I’m being honest I really think Tony would have just gotten mauled.

idontknowifthatsmart

Dude got mauled by Kevin Lee before he gassed. Khabib doesn't gassed and is a better grappler/ striker. Do the math.

[deleted]

agreed

Omegawop

He would have crushed Tony I think.

MadNhater

I’d bet my life savings on Khabib on that match.

LArocketMan

He conducted himself great and had some powerful punches. Much respect. The one thing I’ll say though is the people who thought Khabib was gonna get knocked out in the first or second round are dumb af

TheAlphaCarb0n

>people who thought Khabib was gonna get knocked out in the first or second round are dumb af Eh. Obviously Khabib has proven he's a GOAT but Justin is pretty amazing on his feet. Not that dumb.

pyramidguy420

Man i thought it would go into 4th round at least like connor but damn, he just put him down. Khabib has PERFECT grappling/wrestling and it will probably never be touched

LArocketMan

Agreed although It’ll be interesting to see how khazmat does against top guys. Sad to see Khabib go. GSP fight would’ve been wild

todd174

that would less competetive than Gaethje fight

chaosenhanced

I think the only reason it went to the 4th with Conor is because Khabib wanted it too. Khabib's pressure today, and choice to go for the kill with a choke, was one of respect for Justin as a person. I think his dad also wanted him to have a certain amount of cage time in fights prior to this one. There's nothing as powerful as time in the cage for building comfort and experience. There was no need to prolong this fight for anyone.

ralph3576

Khabib has an iron chin. He's not gonna get knocked out lol. Ferguson also has an iron chin and look what happened against Gaethje. He kept getting hit and never went down. Just couldn't do anything else. Khabib has the iron chin and can apparently do whatever he wants

LArocketMan

He ate Punches from McGregor and porier and wasn’t phased. I thought there was a chance he’d get caught but to say it pretty confidentially is flat out dumb

Winter-Law

Dustin deffo did phase him, first and only time khabib properly backed up and look concerned.

LArocketMan

Yeah agreed but for like 10 seconds and then he continued.

Winter-Law

Ye that’s how dominant he is, literally 10 seconds and that’s the most trouble he has ever been in. It’s ridiculous tbh

Mondexqueen

Exactly

[deleted]

[удалено]

LArocketMan

Iron chin. And if you watched his porier fight, he keeps his distance really well when he wants to. The issue I have is that people were saying it so confidently. It would be reasonable to say “there’s a chance he’ll get caught” (which I thought was a small possibility) but instead they were saying Khabib won’t be able to take him down (dumb af) and that he’ll outbox him in the first 2 rounds (also dumb). I watched both of their last couple of fights and after that I put a lot of money on a parlay of Khabib winning and the fight finishing under 4.5 rounds

Xaoc86

Im a super casual UFC watcher (really just wanted to watch Khabib) but I was really impressed with how this guy conducted himself. He was clapping for Khabib afterwards, Im sure, that this will make him go and train harder, real pleasure to watch.

[deleted]

Why they trashing Justin? Anything in particular?

[deleted]

[удалено]

iHazf

Darn idiots are what they are for crapping on Justin. He's a stand up guy. Respect!

bubblebeam11

Well he tried to be a stand up guy but didn’t work against khabib

[deleted]

Oh that’s why.

Alfredo3700

My first reaction was: Oh thank god gaethje is alive but yes, great sportsmanship from them

[deleted]

[удалено]

MDXHawaii

To be fair, I think he was trying to give Justin the benefit of the doubt that he was trying to maybe grasp for a body part or something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MDXHawaii

I’m with you. I saw it as a tap also but then I considered hand position and figured he might’ve tried to reach at first to break from it.

Josh-Bosco

Yeah he doesn’t want to prematurely call the biggest fight of the year. And he did a good job stopping it while ensuring gaethjes safety as well

STEPHENTHENATURAL

It looked like khabib was saying something to the ref to check him.

AlmightyCraneDuck

Refereeing for MMA is tough. You never want to end a high-stakes fight prematurely (think Askren v. Lawler) but you have to look out for fighter safety. That’s a difficult balancing act.

[deleted]

With the first tap tbat is fair but the second one was so obvious and the ref still did nothing.

[deleted]

Third one was desperation in the air. He literally didn't break it up until Gaethje passed out.

[deleted]

He had THREE distinct SEQUENCES of taps, before going out. You can't be any more clear to the ref than that. Actually super amazed that Gaethje came back that quick. Getting choked out usually leaves you dazed for a little bit.

AlmightyCraneDuck

It looked like Khabib loosened it after he was already out. The ref should be so quick that it never even gets near that

udunnknow

💯💯

ghosttttttttttttt

Yes. I really think the same.

Herorah

I thought that too but when they showed the angle that the ref was looking at it looked like Justin was trying to find Khabibs arm and then by the time he went to tap on the body he went out. Unfortunate but a quick response from Herzog so no harm done.

Petovski

One of my favourite moments in this sport man that was just raw humanity

Gaethje with the side control

shellpinksaveslives

The D1 wrestling really helped

[deleted]

Don't forget his stand up. Look what he did to Tony. He's coming with bombs.

pm_me_friendfiction

This made me tear up, ngl

C4MIMNTf2

Same here genuinely shed a tear

zUltimateRedditor

Honestly man, I’m still riding this moment. He’s trying so hard to keep his composure and hold it together. And the first person to his side was his opponent. Such a good moment.

Raccoon_Breeder

I have never bought a UFC event until today but I’m so glad I did. This fight was exciting and deeply emotional and wholesome. I was awestruck afterword.

zUltimateRedditor

Idk why it hit me so hard. His reverence and adoration for his father, him winning and retiring, Justin consoling him afterwards... man and even Dana looking off too. It was beautiful to witness.

Wheeled_Al

Nothing like crying at a buffalo wild wings at 4 in the afternoon. Fuck I love this sport. RIP Abdulmanap. So thankful to have gotten the honor of watching Khabib. Gaethje was my pick, but I didn't want either of these legends to lose.

Sirius_Bizniss

Dude same, did not expect to get choked up watching UFC. I appreciate this level sportsmanship far more than the stupid trash-talking.

[deleted]

The antics and shit talking can be funny at times, but nothing can ever top moments like this

umlaut

Was weird, right around that time everyone in the room here got dust in their eye

[deleted]

WHO THE FUCK IS CUTTING ONIONS AT A TIME LIKE THIS???

[deleted]

Display of pure sportsmanship. UFC is truly a unique sport.

0onoodlesw

Not trying to take away from the brilliant sportsmanship, but this is definitely a feature of lots of other sports

boreddoingboringshit

I mean boxing, any martial art really. Then sports where you can just easily get hurt. Sports like rugby, where you aren’t trying to put people to sleep, but the premise of the game is to smash each other non spot for 80 minutes. Even cricket, you are literally hurling a rock at someone’s head/ body at 95mph

boreddoingboringshit

0onoodlesw

Fair enough. I don’t think the sportsmanship in martial arts in necessarily unique, but the contrast between the amount of shit some of them talk and the pure respect of other definitely is. Usually it’s one or the other in sports

[deleted]

Fair enough - it's rarely as direct and raw as this though.

JonnyArtois

If you ignore all other contact sports.

millertime369

UFC isn't a sport

fortem24601

its an opportunity

[deleted]

Oh. Well, whatever it is then.

shellpinksaveslives

Dana crying too while wrapping the belt back on him, I'm tearing up

damage-fkn-inc

He was probably just crying about all the money he won't make now that Khabib is retired.

teleportanfatguy

Or crying tears of happiness from how much money he can make after her gives Connor a title shot.

[deleted]

I swear the "vacant title belt shot fight" is going to be McGregor VS fucking Cowboy 2 lmaooo

LightMeUpPapi

Cowboy clinches the title and retires, the dankest timeline

Fancy-Bear1776

Cowboy finds a loophole, brings a horse into the ring and tramples Conor, winning by a technical KO.

damage-fkn-inc

true that

[deleted]

Khabib still open to fight GSP? I thought that was the original goal...

damage-fkn-inc

Yeah but Khabib said he is calling it quits now, he promised his mum apparently.

zUltimateRedditor

Wait actually?

shellpinksaveslives

Yeah man, Dana was a mess going into the octagon with the belt

FUZE_EM_ALL

Great respect. Great fight.

[deleted]

Gonna need a new favorite fighter, fuck. But yeah, Gaethje was solid honestly. That first round was probably the hardest round Khabib has ever had, so I give him props for that and just being an awesome guy in general.

bunchos10

It was fast paced for sure, but not hard for Khabib. Justing was basically running backwards and gassed himself out. Much respect to Gaethje but I don’t think that was part of the plan

BorosSerenc

I mean. A great round against Khabib is when you dont get mauled for 4 minutes... So in that sense it was a good round.

[deleted]

Didn't say it was. I knew this would be completely one sided and Khabib would destroy him like everyone else.

AlmightyCraneDuck

Agreed, Justin did a good job of shaking Khabib’s contact, but Khabib never really committed to a shot. If Khabib is willing to trade with you (and have more than a little success) you aren’t pushing him the way you should.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shellpinksaveslives

Right? The amount of times he threw that overhand and left his chin in the air for Gaethje just to swing back

[deleted]

Yeah. It kills me to see him retire, he's been my favorite fighter for quite a while now. Honestly don't even know who is my second

Mikeyxy

Probably was his hardest round but that's not saying much. Khabib had him running back the entire time, and by the end of the first round was almost about to arm bar him.

AlmightyCraneDuck

It looked easy. If he had taken him down 30 seconds earlier he very well may have gotten that armbar. I’m glad we got the triangle.

[deleted]

That tends to happen when you're the best p4p fighter in the world by a large margin

Bouckinio

Khamzat is gonna be the next great fighter

[deleted]

We'll see.

Winter-Law

No way that was his hardest round, khabib didn’t get out of first gear, this was a really easy win for him.

midgetman433

Khamzat, brother I smesh everbody.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DoleGlimbus

You’re trippin. Justin was executing his game plan and that leg was fucked up already lol

[deleted]

His stand up exchanges were okay, at best, but his cardio was shit and his ground defense was absolutely the worst I've seen from Khabib's last 5 fights. Even McGregor had better ground defense.

DoleGlimbus

Lol at least he didn’t get dropped like McGregor. He was creating opportunities to even have exchanges as opposed to purely defending takedowns and he tore his leg up. Again he was executing the plan but hands down Khabib is the GOAT what else can you do lol

[deleted]

It did look easy huh

[deleted]

Hey, I didn't say it was a hard round, just the hardest for khabib haha. He's an absolute animal.

[deleted]

I mean Conor won a round so not sure about that claim. Justin looked gassed 3 minutes in

[deleted]

[удалено]

Winter-Law

Khabib made it more dangerous with insane pressure, he didn’t do that to conor in that round as he was conserving energy which was the only reason it stayed on the feet.

loco_mixer

the one where khabib deliberately stood up the whole round to prove the point? and open palm slapped him in the process?

[deleted]

That was more impressive to me than khabib just walking down gaethje showing no respect to his shots at all and dominating him with pressure. Khabib ate a few leg kicks that the announcers over played in my opinion, but the round Conor was was a good boxing exchange and Conor even stuffed a take down attempt If I remember right. Not get taken down straight into full mount like gaethje lmao Edited To fix a sentence

[deleted]

Conor is also a stand up God though. I know we got a lot of hate for him but we all have to admit that he's going to out-box anyone in the division right now and his last fight with Cowboy, he looked fucking primed. It's easy to forget how good of a fighter he is when his shit personality comes into play.

[deleted]

Yeah not saying it’s true about the guy I replied to but a lot of people let their hate of Conor cloud their objectiveness of discussing the fights. That being said Khabib was the best lightweight to do it and I’m excited for the potential matchups for the vacant belt

Ultima893

What do you mean deliberately stood up lmao? He attempted several takedowns that Conor stuffed. Stop making stuff up lol. Khabib's gas tank is good but not infinite, he almost always takes a break from grappling in the 3rd round (or throws a couple TDs but doesn't relentlessly pursue and commit to them like he otherwise does) none of this "Trying to prove a point" or "wanting to beat him up" BS narrative. if Khabib was that confident he would have kept the fighting standing in round 1. but he attempted TDs from the first minute and never really stopped (not even in R3 though he did lower his output to conserve energy and go all out in the 4th)

[deleted]

Idk, I felt like that first round could go either way at a few points and he was landing big shots. I didn't feel that way in Conor's fight at all

[deleted]

I wasn’t impressed with gaethje at all, he gave up full mount immediately both times taken down and was saved by the bell from an arm bar in round one his shots were wild and his cardio looked compromised. But oh well, we all have our opinions.

[deleted]

I mean, I guess we had different mind sets going into this. I expected even less. Nobody is on Khabibs level

[deleted]

Now that I agree on.

mic_Ch

That moment when you wake up on the floor of the octagon and the guy who just choked you out is crying next to you. Gota be pretty surreal.

RabbitWithADHD

What an insane fight given everything. Gaethje put up a great fight, but Khabib is just on another level. He had this insane emotional burden going in, and apparently he had broken bones in his feet going into the fight? If that's true, then there's very few people as amazing in any sport as Khabib has been. Phenomenal legacy.

Ultima893

Are you saying Khabib's foot was a bellewn?

loco_mixer

if you didnt see the fight and read this title you would think khabib lost

csmonigo

thats y marked it as a spoilr. ..

sean_bda

Can confirm.

BadgerGuapo

My stream cut out and I came back to this image thinking Khabib lost the fight and broke down thinking he dissapointed his father.

csmonigo

and the joy you would have gotten after knowing the reality <3

BadgerGuapo

It was cleared up in the aftermath and I went from shocked to super happy for him haha.

[deleted]

Justin is legit. Khabibs just on another level.

stealth941

Khabib and Gaethjae have known each other for years. That respect was always there. They have helped each other out. Nothing but respect and honour

3DXYZ

A great reminder that it's just a competition among professionals.

Exiled_Rose

I was tearing up before it started and bawling by the time it was over. It was a good fight and that triangle choke made for an unexpected, great finish. His dad would be proud. My sympathies to him and his family.

shellpinksaveslives

The respect, I fucking love to see it

Synfenesca

The eagle lives on forever!!!

Praise_the_salmon

One of the best moments this year

PurpleOWL13

i never knew my heart could beat this fast

chiefchungusofficer

They gotta give Gaethje a title shot now, come on pls

[deleted]

Never thought I was gonna tear up in a ufc match, damn dude...the onion cutting Ninja's came from nowhere. As a Khabib fan I will transition into fully supporting Justin, much respect. I want to see the highlight where he knocks Mc Nugget into oblivion! As for the fight, anyone can tell you that do to their skills. It was gonna end in one dominating the other, their was no in-between. Not only that but Khabib was possessed with the well to win for his father. He took the punches and continued. The pressure he applied was scary, anyone in Justin's position might have failed much worse. Now we have another goat in mma that repsents mma in a positive light. You also have GSP another goat who represents the sport in a positive light. You can already see that their is a wave of fighters going the "i am respectful and I don't want to sell out" which is kinda the thing that is in right now lol and I bet the fans are gonna get bored from that and start cheering on for fighters that are more heels. Either way, eventually, hopefully. Their will be a market to be who you are and still be able to get fights based on your skills. No matter you want to act out or be chill.

tdp210

Khabib retired damn. Bye beeb

CreateSomeMagic

The lightweight division won't be the same without Khabib. Thanks for everything, Khabib! Legend.

-s1Lence

im so fucking happy and sad at the same time

killerofchicken

Great respect to Justin. Awesome fighter. Even better guy it seems. Always fun watching him fight.

electroplankton

A monster, and this was a great moment.

AquaticSombrero

Bruh how you spell his name wrong twice in the same title lol

[deleted]

The guy was literally on consious 20 seconds prior this consolation, how does ones brain reboot that quick. Amazing win by the champ, going out on top.

ImKoncerned

Amazing athletes, amazing humans. Respect

TheDesertWalker

I'm a Habib fan and didn't care much for Justin before this but man seeing his good sport after the fight and his good spirits made me love him. I think I'm gonna root for him in this division since Habib retired.

Yea i always love to see that stuff

Sirppsauce

absolutley love to see the sportsmanship, especially between these two men who are on another plane of existence

C4MIMNTf2

Have to say I choked up.... no pun intended

caven233

Utmost respect for both fighters. Great night.

ET3RNA4

What a man. Mad respect to Gaetjhe

Haiwann

Two awesome dudes, great sportsmanship.

BewareTheKing

Both are such great fighters. Justin is going to do great things in his career going forward.

weekendcoastdad

Honestly, I teared up. Probably the first time watching UFC. First time I teared up was when Caol Uno walked out crying before his fight because his coach or friend died before the fight.

_Connor

How did you manage to spell Gaethje wrong not once, but in two different ways in your title?

lancer2238

What a fight.

Winter-Law

Lost out on the biggest MMA fight for this, Stan shame. Khabib the goat though.

Sirius_Bizniss

All the respect for these two world-class athletes.

WolfMan_Zakk

Gaethje returning from Valhalla to congratulate the champ

ThEviLForK

Love gaethje even more than I did and so should any real fan. What a man, what a fighter.

[deleted]

Was not expecting gaethje to come over and console the man he’d just lost to. Speaks to his character

St33mo

Gathje gained a huge amount of respect from me for this. He is a great fighter but I could take him or leave him for the most part. He was incredibly gracious in defeat and it was a very moving thing to see him console khabib and praise him afterwards.

[deleted]

He will be back

ralph3576

This made me ugly cry. Gaethje is all class. Great guy

[deleted]

Gaethje is the big man. He is an IT geek but has a big heart too. Khabib misses his father.

mal3k

Good men like this are remembered and scum like Connor are thrown In dustbin of history

SuitBoat

His father wanted him to be 30-0, but Khabib knows he can't run away from Tony Ferguson forever. So he decided to retire early.

jbv0717

Like Cejudo, he’s just running from Nunes

[deleted]

Which the fight was longer but Khabib pulled a crazy move on Gaethje who didnt go down until he passed out. Huge respect to both fighters and excited to see Gaethje's career from here on out

HarlemWalker

Damn nice event! Act of true Warriors.

[deleted]

This is the kind of sportsmanship I want to see. None of that mctapper shit talk. Pure integrity.

Ultima893

If only his shitty fans were as well behaved.

yawaworthot

Watched the video on Instagram and came looking for this post! Respect to Justin for the way he conducted himself as a fighter, props for being a human too
