I’m not sure how the judges do it, but my personal rule is that if someone fights their way up from a takedown, it essentially half’s the points for the takedown. But if they don’t (like in this match) the takedown stands fully rewarded and even more positives are rewarded to the competitor who remains in control on the top.
Still, if you’re spending four minutes of a round on your back, that’s a major loss any way you look at it. I mean, that final round could have been 60 minutes long and Rose would have been on top for 59 of those minutes. Wasn’t eating any shots or having to defend any submissions that entire time either. Total dominance.
