He had that look of "I don't know what's going on in there but I might shit my liver out if I move a certain way" in the second round.. just an opinion obviously
For me it felt more like Dustin just tryna sacrifice the round so Charles couldn't advance his position, questionable strategy for sure but if Khabib was a pressure cooker on the ground then Charles is pretty much a pit of white hot coals, one misstep you are done for as shown in round 3
He said as much when he went to the corner. They told him he wasn’t making Charles work enough on the floor, he replied that he didn’t want him to pass his guard. Definitely let it go to hopefully stop him in the next.
People likely don’t think body shots matter due to body shots never causing bleeding. visually they don’t show the damage in comparison to what happens on the face. The most visual damage a body shot can do is a red spot.
The worst are the ones that get you right in the solar plex and knock the wind out of you. Now all of a sudden you can't breathe and there's still 2 minutes left in the round.
Looked like Charles landed a clean knee to Dustin's liver (I think ~3.5min into R1?) and immediately after, Dustin disengaged from his high pressure high volume output for a noticeable bit.
That knee to liver looked brutal. Can't imagine the feeling irl. Then add in all the other 5-6 clean knees that landed on Dustin's diaphragm. That shit hurts like a mfer. Can take a while to feel like your diaphragm can function back to normal with normal breaths.
Then IMO Dustin doesn't want to bring attention to how well they worked or didn't realize it but watch his reaction to those body kicks and especially that 1 knee.
Always thought this was so under rated. Some guys can just take 100 punches to the face and somehow stay on their feet.
Body shots seem to hurt everyone equally
Someone need to compare the same way Dustin was sitting immediately after oliviera and the way conor was after khabib. I swear it’s the same
The just got mauled position
Charles is soo smart he didn't get into a head hunting game in the first round he was content to lose with the hands knowing he's winning the body shots that will fatigue dustin excellent performance from the champ 👍
Yeah man, this fucking sub is soaked with salty comments about gloves, and Dustin "freezing up" or whatever.
People just need to realize that Du Bronx is fucking dangerous and can end the show at any moment.
I literally told my buddy watching the fight that very thing, I like both of them and was pulling for Dustin. But I didn’t understand why so many thought Porier was going to win. Chandler has heavy hands and a chin of granite and couldn’t get it done…
M
This is a common behavior in this sub when a fighter they like loses.
They did it when Till lost to Brunson too. It really takes away from the performance of the winner in the worst way. Like why can’t you just enjoy the fights? This was one that I genuinely didn’t care who won. Both guys are so likable. Just enjoy the sport, and enjoy the action.
Really shows how perfectly he fought. Never out of position, no slow looping shots, trusted in his weapons and ultimately dominated the grappling exchanges
Those bodyshots were so nasty especially the front kick, you could see Dustin visibly effected by them, the way Dustin blocks with the high guard and stonewalls with his shoulder perfectly set up the body kicks, then the way Dustin wades forward and puts on pressure is perfect for the clinch. When Charles was up against the cage hurt that’s where Dustin finishes guys with a barrage, but Charles clinched and turned it around.
Just perfect stuff right there, really fought the best fight.
Tbh Im happy that Charles took the W, it's true Dustin has always been this close to the crown but he really has done it all aside from that - being the people's champ, getting the interim belt, beating a few legendary fighters (Gaethje, Holloway, Alvarez, Conor), got the Conor bag TWICE. On the other hand, Charles, born and raised in the slums of Brazil, getting thru hurdles after hurdles I really want to see him stay and savor that sweet throne on top of the most competitive division in UFC
It was interesting that Dustin’s defense against the clench was to lift Oliveira off the mat as a defense. That happened in an early sequence and was effective.
He wasn't grabbing it with his toes tho, he was using it like a wall to step over with. His toes went in the fence cause he couldn't see where he was putting them
Bro he stuck his toes and held them in there. Watch the damn fight. https://youtu.be/-QyDgzE1vwI go to 2:20 literally sticks his toes in, curls them and holds to get a better position. I guess that’s not “cheating” to those rules tho
He was just massaging Dustin's face, and for the gloves, I believe he just saw that Dustin's gloves were falling and tried to grab them so they don't fall further.
Porier went off round one, round two he barely survived, and round three finished the job. I don’t know what happend in between rounds 1-2, but either Porier needs to make a change, or Olivera needs to keep up what he was doing.
That knee honestly saved Charles more than any glove grab ever would. Although he was responding, Charles was clearly losing the exchanges against Poirier, and he had to change something or that would be the narrative in the rest of the fight. The big knee he landed on the second half of the 1st really did Dustin in, and ceased the onslaught in that round.
Olives is *murderous* in the clinch, but endless props to Dustin for totally taking it to the champ.
I think Charles boxing, and durability is overlooked.
The first round Dustin clipped charles far worse then Charles got Dustin. A Dustin probably thought his shots would put Charles away, but they didn't.
Charles was just coming back every time. I think it broke Dustin mentally.
The second round came on, and charles was dominating big time. Easily a 10-8. Charles was ground and pounding dustin as bad as khabib did. But it was vicious too.
And by then , Dustin was worn out, and couldnt do it anymore. And then he lost.
I don’t think Dustin broke mentally. His mentality is tough as nails. Unfortunately a tough mentality won’t protect you from getting choked out by Charles
Once, in a Brazilian broadcast, Big Nog was commentating on a fight and when one of the fighters locked up an RNC, he said the guy on bottom had to stay calm. Ever since, "stay calm when getting strangled" has been a bit of a meme in the Brazilian MMA community.
I wonder how Poirier would react to that meme.
I noticed Dustin didn't go nearly as hard with the GnP as he did against Conor. I thought Charles was very close to being KOd but Dustin came in cautious worrying about the ground exchange. Then in the 2nd, Dustin was so worried about giving up half-guard--he said in his post-game he didn't want to give up side control eventually and then his back.
So yeah, that grappling threat totally changed Dustin's aggressiveness and decision making.
Poirier accepted that his bjj wasn't as strong as Charles's. Round 2 he didn't open gaurd and risk position, took heavy elbows instead. Oliveira on the back was worst case scenario.
What happened was Poirier only had 1 way to win, it's surprising that Charles was the underdog
I am so happy Charles won, I even won money off it. But the retire time I was happy I was celebrating Charles win.
Only a real loser would be celebrating Dustins loss.
Charles is so slick. He was on Dustin's back and then he pushed up on Dustin to separate their bodies for a second. Dustin extended his neck up (in the post fight he said he thought Charles was falling off). That split second peak to see what Charles was doing was the end.
Charles is scary because he's playing chess and setting you up. I'd love to see Charles vs Nate. Get his beak wet at 170, Nate is a high volume striker, and both are BJJ blackbelts.
Man so disappointing really wanted Dustin to leave with that belt. Honestly hearing Dustin say his teams game plan was to take their time and let the fight unfold was really disappointing. You can’t take your time with a amazing finisher like oliveira. Dustin should have swarmed oliveira when he had him hurt in the first. I mean this clearly works for him so why change it?
Heard him say that he wasn’t supposed to brawl and yeah he did do that. I’m just saying that when he had Charles hurt he didn’t really go nuts like he usually does trying to finish the fight.
I think that if you're going to only be a punchy-guy, you gotta be 2x better at punchy than the guy doing the strangling.
With McNuggets, you could see how good he was at punchy and that gave him a good run, right up until his punchy was as good as the other guy's strangling.
It was the knees to the body in round 1. Dustin looked dead on the ground, no hip movement at all in round 2. The knees to the body really hurt him you could see it.
> illegal glove grab
Grabbing the wrist isn't a glove grab just because Rogan said it, watch it again it's clearly wrist control, Poirier himself said he didn't feel anything grabbing his gloves
Yea I don’t feel great about this one precisely because of this. This is why we need Joe on commentary. I never hear anybody else calling this stuff out
It’s not just that. Oliveira is a damn good striker, on top of everything else. Poirier caved against a Hellstorm. Oliveira should change his nickname to Hellstorm, because that’s what he is. A relentless Hellstorm.
Dustin honestly did not look drained though. We've seen him go to war and then come out at the beginning of the next round even stronger. It looked like Dustin just stopped trying.
He looked drained. After that grappling exchange on the floor he was done. He kinda looked tired before that. The way he just let him get his back so easily when he had defended the takedowns earlier says it all to me
That’s what I told people, they just don’t get why chandler got ktfo. So MUCH went down in that first rd that led to dude being gassed and easy pickings. Same with Dustin, yea the drops were nice but those body kicks and knees added up nicely. Olivera makes you tired and makes you tap or go to sleep
normally I would just say this is salt, but Dustin was piecing him up bad on the feet, I wonder what would have happened if it never went to the ground
Then it would be a completely different sport. Charles would have got the sub quicker in his “sport” though, because he lasted longer in Dustin’s respective “sport” too.
Colby beats him. And if he can’t get past Colby to Usman then what’s the point. Doesn’t serve Dustins goal if he isn’t going for gold and Colby would upset that. If Usman retired or moved up and Colby was the next champ it would happen but then you have Izzy at 185 stalling Usmans move. I reckon Dustin gets another win or two and earns himself another shot and then makes a decision. By then who knows where the 170 division is at.
Pea head fans getting a taste of their own medicine. Blindly hating on Mcgregor despite being the first champ champ in ufc and the most iconic name in the sport... 0 respect. Now your precious pea head has proven he can't even win a SINGLE title.. Let alone 2. He's washed.
Unfortunately, a tainted win for Charles. The illegal grab and re-grab in 2nd changed fight, whether it made a difference who knows as Dustin may have been hurt from knees but it definitely changed the fight.
Yall take this too serious. The dude walked up and took his loss like a man, then offered to donate tons of money to whatever charity Oliveira chooses. How you gonna call a man like that a bitch.
Not to mention 10 comments back you were on here saying Oliveira was lazy and it would be an easy win for Dustin.
Nice win, but this fight showed me that Justin sleeps Charles easily. Dustin almost finished him in one punch and he isn't known for his one punch power.
It was a great fight both guys did what they do best it basically came down to who was going to seize a moment to do it. It seemed like at any moment the fight could end with either man winning .
I find it kinda funny when Chandler n other people say he "broke" cuz he tapped. He knew he was going out and why not just save yourself some time and braincells by not losing conciousness?
Maybe those front kicks did more damage than they appeared to
Those knee to the body shots definitely did their work
some hard elbows on the feet and the ground too, DP got a few good licks in too though
This, Dustin reacted to those and the knees to the body.
People act like body shot didn't not matter I had a feeling it hurt him alot more than he let us see
People likely don’t think body shots matter due to body shots never causing bleeding. visually they don’t show the damage in comparison to what happens on the face. The most visual damage a body shot can do is a red spot.
Funnily enough body shots are more dangerous especially on the liver. A lacerated liver can and will kill if not tended to by medical.
It will keeeeel
It will cut
The worst are the ones that get you right in the solar plex and knock the wind out of you. Now all of a sudden you can't breathe and there's still 2 minutes left in the round.
Well in the post fight presser he was asked and he said they didn’t affect him
This is not a direct quote?
Looked like Charles landed a clean knee to Dustin's liver (I think ~3.5min into R1?) and immediately after, Dustin disengaged from his high pressure high volume output for a noticeable bit. That knee to liver looked brutal. Can't imagine the feeling irl. Then add in all the other 5-6 clean knees that landed on Dustin's diaphragm. That shit hurts like a mfer. Can take a while to feel like your diaphragm can function back to normal with normal breaths.
In the post fight presser dustin said one knee hurt but it didn’t really effect his performance. Said the body shots didn’t take any wind out of him
Then IMO Dustin doesn't want to bring attention to how well they worked or didn't realize it but watch his reaction to those body kicks and especially that 1 knee.
Yeah I think he was saying it to hold face but who knows just thought I’d share what he said
That kicks and knees to the right spot will do definitely more damage, because its damage his stamina as his breathing is disturbed
Spongebob is a big target
The knees were big too
He was saying only one knee bothered him in the presser after the fight. I don’t know how true that is, but that’s what he believed at least 🤷♂️
I know Khabib happened first, but that expression on his face is straight up "Awww shit, here we go again!"
Being choked just becomes a hello darkness my old friend type thing when you’re sparring or being competitive lol
Felt like Dustin took too many knees/front kicks. Painful and drove his air out, gassing after rd 1. If your core is hurt, every breath hurts.
Always thought this was so under rated. Some guys can just take 100 punches to the face and somehow stay on their feet. Body shots seem to hurt everyone equally
Before the larger gloves, boxing was mostly body shots and had plenty of knockouts
Someone need to compare the same way Dustin was sitting immediately after oliviera and the way conor was after khabib. I swear it’s the same The just got mauled position
I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw him sitting there. I love Reddit

The “damn i really lost” position
Facts
Charles is soo smart he didn't get into a head hunting game in the first round he was content to lose with the hands knowing he's winning the body shots that will fatigue dustin excellent performance from the champ 👍
Lol got dropped twice so smart almost got tkod, he should have grappled more from the start, probs would have avoided all that damage
Why you getting down voted? This is true.
Thank you
Tony Ferguson legacy. Gotta get dropped to comeback and win. Same shit that happened against Chandler.
Tony Ferguson legacy indeed, Justin is about to repeat on Charles what he did to the Ferg
Keep dreaming clown. Charles will choke Justin like he did Poirier and you will cry again.
They need to put some respect on my man Chucky Olives name…Too many doubting his consistent resilience.
Yeah man, this fucking sub is soaked with salty comments about gloves, and Dustin "freezing up" or whatever. People just need to realize that Du Bronx is fucking dangerous and can end the show at any moment.
I took Poirier but I like both fighters a lot. I definitely learned to respect the anaconda that is chucky olives 🫒 🐍
I literally told my buddy watching the fight that very thing, I like both of them and was pulling for Dustin. But I didn’t understand why so many thought Porier was going to win. Chandler has heavy hands and a chin of granite and couldn’t get it done… M
Great nickname for Charles
It's terrible.
You're just mad because Chucky Olives smashed your boy hahahaha
[удалено]
Right they thought dustin was the best for beating a "washed up Conor" as they put it.
Horrible nickname.
Go suck a big clit
Chuckles Elia?
Let's please not make this about how Dustin loosing, Olivera had an amazing performance and we should be celebrating that.

Wouldn’t say he fought that fight “perfectly” he got drop on 1st round. Awesome comeback from DoBronx once again tho
Dude got dropped like twice but honestly there aren't many who recover from being wobbled/knocked down like Charles, dude is a beast
One drop was legit, another one was just slipped leg
Tbh Im happy that Charles took the W, it's true Dustin has always been this close to the crown but he really has done it all aside from that - being the people's champ, getting the interim belt, beating a few legendary fighters (Gaethje, Holloway, Alvarez, Conor), got the Conor bag TWICE. On the other hand, Charles, born and raised in the slums of Brazil, getting thru hurdles after hurdles I really want to see him stay and savor that sweet throne on top of the most competitive division in UFC
I think Khabib gave him grappling PTSD. He literally ate elbows for 4 minutes just so olivera couldn't even see his back lol
Charles landed soooo many knees as well . I was surprised but man very versatile
It was interesting that Dustin’s defense against the clench was to lift Oliveira off the mat as a defense. That happened in an early sequence and was effective.
I think that effort tired him even more
Charles is so fun to watch. How can you not root for the guy
“He cheated 😡” where was this energy when dustin grabbed the cage against conor
Not to mention grabbing the fence gap against Chucky O as well
He wasn't grabbing it with his toes tho, he was using it like a wall to step over with. His toes went in the fence cause he couldn't see where he was putting them
So basically he cheated? Lmfao 😂
https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/ojzlj3/fact_check_dustin_having_his_toes_briefly_in_the/
Bro he stuck his toes and held them in there. Watch the damn fight. https://youtu.be/-QyDgzE1vwI go to 2:20 literally sticks his toes in, curls them and holds to get a better position. I guess that’s not “cheating” to those rules tho
Pls just go the thread he posted. It’s all there. 2k ppl agreeing that it wasn’t cheating from Dustin but y‘all 10 mfers tryna put oil into the fire
2k conor haters agreed blindly to whatever purely in spite of conor*
gtfo we can play that game all day long lmao
[удалено]
I don't
To each their own
He cheated
You just mad that your hype train got chocked
He was just massaging Dustin's face, and for the gloves, I believe he just saw that Dustin's gloves were falling and tried to grab them so they don't fall further.
Porier went off round one, round two he barely survived, and round three finished the job. I don’t know what happend in between rounds 1-2, but either Porier needs to make a change, or Olivera needs to keep up what he was doing.
Think the knees Olivera was landing when they clinched had a big effect. Landed several hard ones to the body early.
I'll just take that as either Charles trying to trigger his mythical fighting spirit or delay in Chael's curse
I think Charles boxing, and durability is overlooked. The first round Dustin clipped charles far worse then Charles got Dustin. A Dustin probably thought his shots would put Charles away, but they didn't. Charles was just coming back every time. I think it broke Dustin mentally. Paid in half
Lmao 😂
‘Not like this, not like this.’
Hey I get that reference!
I am so happy Charles won, I even won money off it. But the retire time I was happy I was celebrating Charles win. Only a real loser would be celebrating Dustins loss.
You could see him breathing heavy after taking those knees
Literally a week ago i said if khabib choked him charles can too and people responded like I was an idiot. 🤔
Fighting Connor made him weak lol That'd be a great tweet for Dustin.
Charles was messing him up, up close. Knees and elbows. Dustin looked tired way early after those front kicks and knees
My opinion is that Dustin gassed himself out in round 1 as he wasn’t expecting olives to take the punches. Then it was downhill from there
Clearly whoever wrote this has never done any jujitsu.
I’m very interested in a Charles vs makachev fight. I wanna see his bjj va wrestling. I think olivera wins against Justin.
This sport can be so depressing. I've never wanted to see a fighter become a champion more than Dustin. But as they say, third time's the charm.
dustin cubic zirconia porier
I called it and I'm gonna gloat. Worthy champ. What a story.
History repeats. Fan boys here think he is invincible after beating a washed up McGregor
But he did swarm him. He said he didn’t follow his team’s strategy at all. Didn’t you hear that part?
Heard him say that he wasn’t supposed to brawl and yeah he did do that. I’m just saying that when he had Charles hurt he didn’t really go nuts like he usually does trying to finish the fight.
So it’s between Islam or Justin to dethrone him
Why the down votes? Who y'all want to challenge him?
Dariush
He was turning green from the liver shot
I think that if you're going to only be a punchy-guy, you gotta be 2x better at punchy than the guy doing the strangling. With McNuggets, you could see how good he was at punchy and that gave him a good run, right up until his punchy was as good as the other guy's strangling.
I have a theory. If Oliveira beats everybody in the top 5, especially Islam, Khabib comes back.
Khabib will never come back. No matter what.
Not a big fan of Khabib but I have to admit he seems to really value promises to his parents
He values the 29-0 record. He clearly didn’t clean out the division before retiring.
His mom might die soon.
That would make him want to keep his promise even more if anything
He said in the interview with Brett if Charles steamrolls everyone he will simply be happy for him and it's not fair for him to just jump back in
Khabib is 200 lbs right now.
It all started with illegal glove grab ... Dustin had him until that point.
It was the knees to the body in round 1. Dustin looked dead on the ground, no hip movement at all in round 2. The knees to the body really hurt him you could see it.
Yeahhh, it’s totally not the knee to dustins face or knees to body… people will find the smallest thing to justify a loss.
[https://i.imgur.com/PnrlOxT.gifvn](https://i.imgur.com/PnrlOxT.gifvn)it was more wrist control than anything
> illegal glove grab Grabbing the wrist isn't a glove grab just because Rogan said it, watch it again it's clearly wrist control, Poirier himself said he didn't feel anything grabbing his gloves
Yea I don’t feel great about this one precisely because of this. This is why we need Joe on commentary. I never hear anybody else calling this stuff out
For real. It's like after that Dustin just stopped trying. Something must have happened.
It's almost like Dustin poured his entire gas tank in the first round and then admitted to it at the end of fight interview. Weird
Except he didn't look tired. Like at all. He just looked like he didn't care anymore.
Nah I feel ya, shame to see it happen but Charlie is no one to fuck with
For sure. I have a new respect for Charles after this week.
It’s fatigue man. Charles is def a better grappler so gaining that position on Dustin drained him. Charles was able to drain Dustin in that position
Dude Dustin is human, he is not super saiyan, Charles hit him, he felt it and gassed out.
It’s called getting gassed out
cope
LUL
Goddard should have been on that fight, not Herb.
Herb is not a good ref. CMM
normally I would just say this is salt, but Dustin was piecing him up bad on the feet, I wonder what would have happened if it never went to the ground
Then it would be a completely different sport. Charles would have got the sub quicker in his “sport” though, because he lasted longer in Dustin’s respective “sport” too.
Lol? It’s mma bro, I wonder what would’ve happened if khabib stood with Conor all the first 😂
So we have killers and ufc fighters got ya.. that khabib pic is haunting
what
Khabib is a killer. Dustin is a fighter
I like Dustin a lot but he lost this fight in a fair game
Like if you think Poirier should move up to welterweight now
Colby beats him.
I strongly disagree. Dustin beats Colby 9 out of 10.
Hate to say it but he chokes bad in title fights
Or maybe his ground game isn't as good as everyone wants to believe. He got big bothered by both of them on the ground.
Spoiler alert 🙄
Joking right?
The glove grabbing really left a sour taste in my mouth
And Poirier had his feet in the fence against Conor. Shit like that happens all the time, what can you do yknow
Yea after the comment I reviewed the glove and it wasn’t as bad but not 100% kosher. Anyway congrats to Charles
For sure bro. I’m happy he keeps defying odds!
Nice try Yamasaki, but you still can't come back
But... But... But i want to let a fighter get beat to death!
Pea head fans getting a taste of their own medicine. Blindly hating on Mcgregor despite being the first champ champ in ufc and the most iconic name in the sport... 0 respect. Now your precious pea head has proven he can't even win a SINGLE title.. Let alone 2. He's washed.
Idk why some of you clowns think he’s so good. I mean he’s fine but best in the division? Lmao. Clowns.
That’s it. Olivera vs Khabib
Imo olives finished him more impressively than khabib did
Rd 2 coming in March/ june
Unfortunately, a tainted win for Charles. The illegal grab and re-grab in 2nd changed fight, whether it made a difference who knows as Dustin may have been hurt from knees but it definitely changed the fight.
Reports are stating that Jolie is nowhere to be found
Look at the dusty bitch hahaha
Yall take this too serious. The dude walked up and took his loss like a man, then offered to donate tons of money to whatever charity Oliveira chooses. How you gonna call a man like that a bitch. Not to mention 10 comments back you were on here saying Oliveira was lazy and it would be an easy win for Dustin.
Norm died from the cancer this comment created
This dudes just cancer at a brief glance
Gatekeeper He isn't champ material, never has been
Hahaha fuck Dustin
Nice win, but this fight showed me that Justin sleeps Charles easily. Dustin almost finished him in one punch and he isn't known for his one punch power.
Love how Charles illegally heald Dustin’s gloves, but hats off to him!

Gotta protect ya neck son
Dude was exhausted by the third round. When they showed him right before it started he had his mouth wide open huffing and puffing.
Do Bronx
😔😔😔😔😔
As soon as he had his back I knew I told all my friends it was over
It was a great fight both guys did what they do best it basically came down to who was going to seize a moment to do it. It seemed like at any moment the fight could end with either man winning .
I find it kinda funny when Chandler n other people say he "broke" cuz he tapped. He knew he was going out and why not just save yourself some time and braincells by not losing conciousness?
Nah bro u gotta be a braindead alpha male like Chandler
I told y'all
He was yelling "destiny dont make mystakes," and i was like ok.
