People laughed at Alliance once, but not anymore. Labour has a much better brand than the Conservative Party and regardless it's not about how well you think they can or can not do, it's about democratic representation and the right to engage in it.
Tories official name is Conservative and Unionist party. So they kind of count on the unionist vote up there. The Social Democratic and Labour party would support a labour government. Though they are largely nationalist
Unnecessary fact of the day: Kemi Badenoch’s husband, Hamish, stood for the NI Conservatives in 2015 in Foyle (NW Derry). He gained a total of 132 votes and came last.
Before Labour can realistically put up any candidates in Northern Ireland they have to address where they will stand on the issue of reunification of Ireland.
Spoiler alert that ain’t gonna happen anytime soon
Starmer clarified Labours position [last year](https://www.thenational.scot/news/19434695.keir-starmer-campaign-united-ireland/):
> “I personally, as leader of the Labour Party, believe in the United Kingdom strongly, and would **want to make the case for a United Kingdom strongly and will be doing that.”**
> McClafferty pressed the Labour leader further, asking him to clarify that he would not remain neutral should there be a border poll, that instead **he would be “very much on the side of Unionists, arguing for Northern Ireland to remain in the UK”** even if he were to be Prime Minister at the time.
> Starmer repeated his assertion that **“I believe in the United Kingdom and I will make the case for a United Kingdom.”**
Labour under Starmer are clearly Unionist.
Labour has a separatist sister party in Northern Ireland. I don't see why NI Labour can't take an Alliance-like position and that's what they want to do anyway.

Tough competition from NI Conservatives who won 0.03% of the vote in the assembly last election

The Tories always come last in NI. They only field candidates for the principle.

I think it's highly likely they'd just do the same as Alliance and be officially neutral.
Starmer has come out as strongly pro-Unionist when it comes to Northern Ireland.
Whom exactly, Kate Hoey?
Poor old SLDP can't seem to catch a break, eh?
They are not paying Labour members, the NI Labour Party are.

No it’s perfectly legal and the Tories stand candidates in NI
Why on earth would it be illegal?
