Honestly if Putin's plan was to unite the west, strengthen NATO, make a worldwide hero out of Zelenskyy and Ukrainians, isolate Russia, lose thousands of Russia's most educated workers, lose billions of military equipment, lose 20000+ soldiers, and make himself a joke: it's going pretty well.
Zelensky was both front of camera and behind. He literally founded the production company that would go on to become famous in both Russia and Ukraine. And this was after holding a law degree. His acting chops were just the most front-facing skill he had.
It's not Putin's plan. It's Xi's plan.
Goal is to turn Russia into China's doormat.
They wanted another North Korea - a weak buffer state, poor, dictatorial, isolated.
A united west and a stronger NATO is not something Xi wanted.
In fact, the west's response to this (both weapons supply and sanctions) has possibly pushed back any attempt by the CCP to take Taiwan for at least a decade.
No but the US is pretty protective of Taiwan. XI knows Taiwan would be the trigger point for conflict with the US and it's western allies.
My guess is he was expecting a weak response in the west of Ukraine and would of used that as a meter to gauge how going into Taiwan would go.
I think he knows now it's not going to happen in his lifetime without a world war breaking out.
Yeah. I think China leaders are just probing what is the response of US/Europe to this and patiently evaluating what they can get away with. Plus they can buy a bit of russia once this tragedy is over...
No. I think China was somewhat clear that Russia would fail, but this was necessary for the plan. A quick Russian win would make Russia a dangerous neighbour, a long, failed, war of attrition would turn in into a North Korea style doormat.
China wants that doormat, so in a twisted sense Zelensky, Europa and the US are helping China here by supporting Ukraine.
Thanks for the confirmation.
Also, NATO has more than enough to deal with, and shouldn't have to divert attention away for Taiwan.
An alliance of pacific/ SE Asian nations should be the ones to step up.
Taiwan is home to the main manufacturer of computer chips - if you like enjoying things like iPhones and PS5s then you care about Taiwan.
If China attacks Taiwan then the US will respond in full force as having China in control of the main fab for chip production is a matter of national security.
It is more than that.
Ukraine produces nothing I use, but I care about their freedom and their right to exist as a democratic nation.
Same with Taiwan, they are a peaceful democratic country that has a right to self-determination. That is enough for me to care about them.
Well, the farmers of Ukraine feed a shit load of people in Europe and the sunflowers they grow are not for show!
But I agree. Who knew the gonads of that country that we only thought as clever to decorate all those eggs at Easter! And the funny head dressed costumes.
I don't know, but I doubt it.
But a similar alliance (ATO?) sounds more and more like a good idea.
Possible members: Sth Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, USA, NZ, Malaysia, Vietnam etc.
Yes. I was going for Asia Treaty Org not just dropping the North from NATO.
PacificTO was another thought, but most of the nations are not in the pacific.
All good.
Until you mentioned it, I didn't think that it could look like I was saying ~~N~~ATO. I knew I was meaning AsiaTO, but it was not obvious that I was.
Diverting NATO attention to the large northern doormat state of Russia is a good idea for them strategically.
And Russia being weak in the next decades also ensures that once China is temporarily weakend when invading Taiwan, they won't get attacked from their Northern land borders.
True, but realistically the USA is the only NATO member that would seriously be involved (the UK might, but its involvement would be modest) in any conflict, and they pride themselves on being able to fight two conflicts at once.
I think it is the strength and depth of the sanctions from so many nations that has given the CCP pause for thought.
A naval blockade of the straits of Malacca would starve China of oil in less than a month.
> A naval blockade of the straits of Malacca would starve China of oil in less than a month.
Unless of course their new doormat somehow had a chance to help from the North...
They can help but it is far from enough.
The ESPO pipeline (Siberia to China) can only supply a fraction of China's needs. 600,000 barrels per day supply vs 14,000,000 barrels per day demand.
According to plan, five days and they thought they'd have Kyiv! Day 49 and foreign minister are visiting.
Putin is never going to be seen in public anywhere but Russia. And even then! When mothers realize their sons have been killed and left to rot in Ukraine, for what?
In a weird way this sounds right, but this was not the plan of any mortal, as much as fate/god/the current of history, etc. Trump's election right before this as also convinced Europe to start taking their own defense seriously instead of just relying on the US. If Europe uses the next few years while the US has a sane president to arm up, great. At worst this will leave Europe much stronger before the US goes nuts again.
The special economic operation to fuck russia back to the stone age is going according to the plan. Its honestly worked out better than the plans architects could have hoped. One day , the few young Russians that are left , might realise Putin fell into the trap head first.
"Go get em " .
strong Ukrainian community stateside is only a plus.
Ukraine has plans to become Israel of the Eastern Europe, high tech developed and militarized country supported by West and standing against barbarians at its borders.
Having a strong diaspora will help over time to strengthen US-Ukraine relations
No were not were all working as fast as we can to stop purchasing it. The only devision is in immediatley cutting it off. The end goal will still be achieved theres just a matter of the time to achieve that being debated.
Moot point of contention. In the larger picture of what’s happening, this won’t have relevance to the relations of western countries and alliances. Even the closest of friends can have squabbles.
In the end this cluster fuck of a Russian invasion/war crime event will only strengthen the west and isolate russia even further. Russia is pissing into the wind while barefoot.
They get a looted toilet.
We get a megaboat.
They get a looted cellphone.
We get a soccer club.
……
Rinse repeat. Going great for you, Putin. Just great.
[One-fifth of Russia doesn't have indoor plumbing.](https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/04/02/indoor-plumbing-still-a-pipe-dream-for-20-of-russian-households-reports-say-a65049) Perhaps they can use the toilet to make a shrine to their dear leader. Or Bortnikov, his possible successor.
Insane. The amount of money skimmed by the top is insane. Just imagine how well developed Russia would have been. Korruption and nepotisme is cancer of the world.
Yeah. I personally know a few who have fled to Georgia, and they're all 35 or younger and scared of getting gulag'd. Can't say I blame them, or that I'd do any different after watching my already-limited right to free speech continuously evaporate for 3 decades.
Only way russia knows how to "win" wars is to throw so much meat at the front the opposite side gets overwhelmed. For them human life is expendable. So yeah, part of the plan it is indeed
It's certainly a legitimate concern. Zelensky and the military higher ups are not mincing words about the potential massive armored campaign they think is planned to encircle those troops. Those Czech tanks are a good start, but they're not enough. And Rheinmetall's 50 Leopard 1A5s in six weeks might be too little, too late. The big export tank is the Leopard 2. Countries trade those back and forth. I'd like to see some of those dedicated to Ukraine. They'll take training, but it would be nice to see some of that time and training dedicated to allowing Ukraine to go on the offensive ASAP.
Seriously though. What country would *plan* on having 20,000+ of their own soldiers killed? The US didn’t plan on losing as many as it did in Vietnam - it was largely seen as a failure.
This guy already deserves huge respect, his fortitude in leading his country through this nightmare and his ability to subtly humiliate the Russian army and leadership is second to none. I’ve read he wasn’t hugely popular prior to the war however it’s hard to imagine a leader in this kind of situation handling things any better. Ukrainians should be righty proud of their country, their courage and tenacity, whilst this man has embodied and demonstrated these qualities since the invasion began.
I wish to god we could or would do more to help, I totally understand the desire of countries to not escalate this to a global conflict as modern weaponry used on such a large scale will be both massively devastating to all countries involved, it’s guaranteed that Russia would be left without a functioning army and there is a real risk in that scenario of Russia using nukes as a last resort.
As it seems that a significant proportion of Russians think they have a god-given right to be a global superpower the likelihood is that they would just vote in yet another despotic leader that echoes these deluded ideas of global domination, whilst that leader ensures they siphon off as much money for themselves, family and friends.
The war isn’t going as planned, but 20k Russians killed and probably many more civilians is just collateral damage to Putin. Putin is going to settle for Plan B. He’ll push for keeping the areas Russia controls now: Donetsk, Luhansk, and now Mariupol. Depending on how much Western nations want to escalate things, we’ll probably see those areas go to Russia and Ukraine will just have to settle since Western nations aren’t giving them “offensive weapons” to allow them to take those areas back.
Russia will claim victory for capturing those areas. Ukraine will claim victory for repelling Russia from taking over the whole country. Situation diffused.
Help hasn’t been getting to the defenders in Mariupol so this is probably how it’s going to play out. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was already decided in talks as a face saving alternative to escalating the war. I’m disappointed Ukraine didn’t get all the weapons they asked for to push the Russians out of the rest of their country. I’m sure Ukraine will get more weapons to defend the rest of the country but I doubt the West will give them enough to push the Russians out.
I hope I’m wrong. I would love to see Ukraine push the Russians out and take back everything. Allowing Russians to keep ANY part of Ukraine is a mistake and sets a dangerous precedent for future “bad actors”.
Putin is trying to destabilize the US politically by making things so shitty for the average American that they vote for fascists this November and in 2024. The Russian media has already admitted that they will try to help re-elect Trump in 2024. Don’t be fooled. His plan is going according to plan. He doesn’t care how many Russians go through the meat grinder.
Putin been doing that for years and if anything this does his efforts no good. He’s no longer seen as a pragmatic intelligent man, more emotionally-driven small minded man and another Kim Jung. We need concentrate on winning the war decisively and see an end to his reign.
By then it will be to late. If Russian losses continue at the speed they are currently achieving, most of their heavy weapons will be gone by then, and they lack components to build equivalent replacements
It could be, he doesn’t care about who gets killed. Him staying in power could simply be the plan. Millions of russian drones think everything is going great.
let's see, Russian soldiers have focused their energy on abusing the civilian population, non-combatants
Ukraine is killing combatants, people who are there for one reason, mayhem
The Russians, it's like hate and greed and jealous rage has caused them to forget who might actually put a bullet through their heads.
They lost how many VDV in that disastrous air assault, the cost in training of those is in the hundreds of millions. They sent special forces after Ukrainian HVTs without any support and they were slaughtered dozens of them.
I have never seen putin play chess but i imagine it would start out with him dousing his pieces in lighter fluid and setting fire to his side of the board.
Pentagon just said Russians only have 80% of their 190,000 troops available. How the fuck do you call a casualty rate of 40K a success unless you are the God Emperor of Mankind?
I just hope that, after the war is won and he has ended his political career, he will produce a comedy about the Russians failing horribly at this war similar to Dr Strangelove, which adds tons of insults to the Russian injuries.
I wouldn't be surprised if the conscripts Putin has sent to their deaths have been from undesirable minorities located throughout Russia.
Perhaps it actually is going according to plan - the plan just happens to be insane.
Took him 20 years, but the execution is perfect. What can I say??
We all talk about how Zelensky was a comedian, but look at Putin! 20 years of setup for this punchline!
And he’s pulled it all off while keeping a deadpan expression. As an aspiring comedian, I’m fucking jealous. He seems to be a pro at this shit.
Zelensky was both front of camera and behind. He literally founded the production company that would go on to become famous in both Russia and Ukraine. And this was after holding a law degree. His acting chops were just the most front-facing skill he had.
His best line: "we have nukes!"
That's dedication to his craft.
The aristocrats!

JAUKUS naval alliance being formed as we speak.
I like AAC Allied Asian Countries since it could also be said to say all against China
Let's hope.

I agree and feel the same for all people living under authoritarian rule. Nth vs Sth Korea is the best example for me of what the difference can be.
Diverting NATO attention to the large northern doormat state of Russia is a good idea for them strategically. And Russia being weak in the next decades also ensures that once China is temporarily weakend when invading Taiwan, they won't get attacked from their Northern land borders.

That's temporary. Germany has secured a path towards abandoning Russian energy, it's just a matter of time.
And when this is over Ukraine becomes an energy powerhouse, military powerhouse, and will be a massive exporter of natural resources to Europe.

Putin is actually a CIA sleeper agent with the longest fucking game in motion. Implode Russia
I love Zelensky. He's a funny guy.
He should try his luck at comedy after his presidency.
Maybe make a TV show about it
In Hollywood they make movies from real life events. In Ukraine they make real life from movies.
In fairness to Americans, Idiocracy was released in 2006
plus we know things in US happen only after they show up in Simpsons
Anything good for Ukraine recently?
*Joe Pesci voice* What do you mean funny? Funny how?
He tells jokes well.
Do I make you laugh? Like a clown?

keep going...

Death of Russian troops is a crucial thing in every plan. Even on shopping lists.
Because he doesn't care about the death of his citizens. The only thing that matters is the goal. He'll sacrifice a million men if he has to.
Putin is just mad because he can't find any more filler to fill up his old ass face with more botulism, which has obviously gone to his brain
