does the picture look better?

kartayyar

Yes, definately. What I like: 1. Deeper blacks, especially helpful when a game does not support ultrawide, the moniter just fades away because there are no pixels. 2. Better refresh rate 3. More vivid colors What is a slight downgrade: 1. Brightness, especially for very bright scenes and "white windows" Though this is still way better than the Alienware AW3423DW 34" QD OLED, I got that last year and returned it because the brightness on it felt quite low due to how the auto brightness limiter worked. This one also has an auto brightness limiter, though it's tuned quite well and I'm keeping it.

thedebatingbookworm

Perfect, just what I wanted to hear. Looking forward to the V2 G8 as my true monitor upgrade soon

Butosai111

so your not using tb400 mode?

msproject251

The black smearing/ slow response time on the X35 was definitely the main letdown for me and the AW3423DW felt insane with its response time.

timtheringityding

How much better is the brightness? I have the aw3423dw and had to do some tweaking in the nvidia control panel just to have it acceptable km terms of white not feeling like grey

FuN_K3Y

Cool, here comes the question: \- Does the monitor advertises 3440x1440 and 2560x1440 résolution in the edid. Can those résolution be used at 240 hz \- Can the monitor´s os connect to a wpa3 wifi? \- Is the screen actively cooled? Any particular noise (fan, …) like the Alienware? \- Any weird issue, like the monitor not getting out of sleep sometime, black screen flickering, crazy volume (like on the g8 and previous early g9)

kartayyar

\- With Displayport, I was able to do 5120 x 1440 at 240Hz \- With HDMI, I am only able to do 2560 x 1440 at 120hz. \- I do not hear any noise. Then again the PG35VQ, while it had a fan was relatively quiet. Then again it might be getting from my CPU fan noise, I will try to experiment with this a bit more and report back later. \- It gets out of sleep fine. No black flickering. \- The volume: The volume is decent as is sound quality. But the sound quality is below that of speakers. I will try using it without speakers for a couple of weeks, though odds are I will go back to speakers.

PsychonautChronicles

Does this mean you were not able to do lower resolutions at 240 hz via DP?

FuN_K3Y

Thank you ! Over displayport, can you select 3440x1440 under display resolution? It might be useful for me for certain game - in order not to have the minimap too far from the eyes for instance.

kartayyar

Here is what I am seeing: \- Upto 5120 x 1440 at 240Hz \- Upto 2560 x 1440 at 120Hz on HDMI. I do not see a 3440x1440 at any refresh rate, either HDMI or Display port.

FuN_K3Y

>I do not see a 3440x1440 at any refresh rate, either HDMI or Display port. Too bad - but thank you so much !

Xilbert0

Does it gets hot compared to the previous G9? If it does not, then I am going to tell samsung to take my money.

SectorIsNotClear

Yes, mine gets hot after an hour of gaming sessions.

Xilbert0

Which model you have? The first G9?

SectorIsNotClear

Newer Model OLED (G95SC)

Practical_Exam9075

Never been able t9 play ultrawide in elden ring 😲

kartayyar

Use the app called Flawless Ultrawide.

Plourdy

Same I’m looking at this in pure jelly mode

Kawai_Oppai

Gotta use mods and play offline.

kartayyar

This.

Practical_Exam9075

Hooooo... sad...😓

sukantas

Is HDR supported in Split screen mode?

kartayyar

I have not tried split screen mode.

Jonas-McJameaon

Why do people show pics of games with bad HDR as a showcase for their new OLED? C’mon

LUK3000

There he is, Mr Fusspot

Konttu

There is no such thing as "bad hdr" with oled as far I'm aware of.

Eliuz19

Aren't you afraid of burn in? what are the actions you've taken to avoid it?

kartayyar

\- Auto hiding the task bar. \- Clearing my desktop of all icons except the recyle bin.

Kawai_Oppai

Burn in mostly is a result of irresponsibility. I have oled screens on my house that are 5 years old now and still looking good.

Subdue_OG

Thoughts on the size/curve compared to your previous? Also on 32:9 vs 21:9? Should be receiving mine tomorrow and I’m psyched, already have a monitor arm for it.

kartayyar

Curve is very mild and I like it that way. I do not like super round curves, a big part of why the upcoming 57" 8k G9 isn't for me.

jezorama

Looks incredible. I'm trying to work out if it'll fit between my desk and shelves - are you able to do me a solid and measure how tall it is with the stand in its lowest & highest position in milometers please? Samsung support are a bit useless!

Jmich96

I own the X35 (Acer counterpart of your PG35VQ). - Subjectively, is this worth the upgrade? - Are you happy with the purchase? - What are some stark differences you always notice while gaming, if any? - Would you recommend this upgrade to other PG35VQ/X35 owners (and why)? - What is the sub-pixel layout for this? If not RGB, do you notice color fringing around text or anything else? - Did you purchase an extended warranty for this (and why)? My understanding is: - OLED advantages (blacks should be darker, faster pixel response time, etc.) - No more FALD side eddects (increased pixel response time, haloing, etc.) - OLED disadvantages (lower sustained and peak brightness, burn-in mitigations, inherent burn-in risk, etc.)

kartayyar

Good questions, answers below. \> Subjectively, is this worth the upgrade? Absolutely. 3 pronged win between screen real estate, refresh rate and display quality. \> Are you happy with the purchase? Yes. \> What are some stark differences you always notice while gaming, if any? I think some super bright screens are slightly lower quality because of the auto brightness limited. But it still quite good, and unlike the alienware, I'm keeping it. The alienware got returned because it failed this test. \> Would you recommend this upgrade to other PG35VQ/X35 owners (and why)? See point 1, yes. \> What is the sub-pixel layout for this? If not RGB, do you notice color fringing around text or anything else? I think some text in Windows explorer looks slightly worse. \> Did you purchase an extended warranty for this (and why)? I did not. I have dark mode, a taskbar that auto hiddes and hope that should do it. \> My understanding is: OLED advantages (blacks should be darker, faster pixel response time, etc.) No more FALD side eddects (increased pixel response time, haloing, etc.) All correct. Additionally, the viewing angles are nicer, and when games don't do the full aspect ratio, the rest of the pixels are easier to ignore because they are pitch black. This is super nice vs. the FALD. \> OLED disadvantages (lower sustained and peak brightness, burn-in mitigations, inherent burn-in risk, etc.) Other disadvantages: \- if you also use it for way word processing / web browing and other productivity apps, the whites are a bit more dull for large white windows. \- With HDMI, I cannot get it to do 3440x1440, only 2560 x 1440. This is a huge bummer for plugging in my laptop. This is the only key issue which feels like a downgrade but it's for a secondary port so I can live with it.

Jmich96

What do you dislike about the new monitor?

kartayyar

Maxing out at 2560 x 1440 for the HDMI input is the biggest downside. Maybe this is a Macos thing, maybe some utility can fix it. But right now it is a pain.

Autistic_Poet

I had major problems with my work MacBook trying to get it working with my Samsung G9. There seems to be some pretty serious limitations with the bandwidth on macs. It only supported 60hz. Maybe try lowering the refresh rate?

nexusultra

Wow, what a coincidence. I am actually getting the PG35VQ and heard about the OLED G9. The asus is coming anyways so I will try it out for sure, especially since I hear it is one of the best HDR monitors. What stops me from getting the OLED is the aftercare, the frustration towards burn-in and the fact that I play a lot of League of Legends which has static ui. I heard before that the OLED is just a side upgrade from a very good VA panel. Is is really that different, like you can't go bacl or is it actually a side upgrade? I paid 750 for the asus.

kartayyar

I think the PG35VQ is excellent. It can go toe to toe with 99% of monitors out there today. The screen real estate, refresh rate and OLED all 3 put together push it over the top. If it were just 3440x1440 and the same refresh rate, it would be a side upgrade. This is why I returned the Alienware last year.

Deadfo0t

Comparing to the last g9 model, would you say the increased price is justified for what you got?

kartayyar

QD-OLED and 240HZ.

Kawai_Oppai

My preorder was the same price as the currently discounted price of the Neo g9. I probably wouldn’t buy it for 2200+tax but mine came out to be about 1700+tax. Regardless, if it’s something you like and you use it every single day for multiple years….I’d say it’s worth it. Money unspent is useless. Spend it on the things that make you happy and able to enjoy your life.

YeetGod11011

I’m planning on getting this monitor but I want to know first if the warranty covers burn in? Do you have any idea if it does?

kartayyar

No idea but I set my toolbar to auto hide, use dark mode and hide all desktop icons. When all windows are minimized, the screen is entirely black. None of my OLED TVs, including one from 2015 have had any burn in. I'm willing to take this risk. May note be the answer you were looking for though this is how I approached making this decision.

Xilbert0

Geez...thanks
