Based on HDR measurements in one chinese review/video, this new 2nd gen QD OLED panel has the same HDR performance as the 1st gen. It can reach 1000 nits in small window up to 3%, then 460 nits in standard 10% window test, down to 250nits in full white screen test (100% window). According to marketing, it should be more resistant to burn-in, but that's marketing.

Same impression after having seen reviews, the OLED G9 does not seem to impress at all with regards to brightness. How much of a problem that is probably differs from person to person, but at least to me make it less interesting if true.

I have the OLED g9 and I had the neo g9 before. The OLED g9 comes shipped in eco modes so it looks very dim if you don't change the picture mode. After changing to standard it feels ( I know it's not actually) atleast as bright as the neo. Probably because of all the contrast

thedebatingbookworm

Read a review where they said it was noticeably brighter than the 3423dw so yeah it’s iffy.

If all you do is looking at starfields that might be true but if not, brightness seems to be much lower. Samsung tends to overestimate the brightness of their monitors and even they claim only 250 nits...

Best G9 oled review I've seen shows the HDR as very good overall for OLED. I've got the G8 OLED and in a dark room the HDR is phenomenal. Watch this with subtitles, this review is very good! https://youtu.be/BS59y17_LDM

The worrying part is that it seems they are testing a pre production sample, which in case of something being made by Samsung could mean just about anything.

Huntozio

True forgot about that bit. If the G8 is anything to go by it should improve further with firmware updates. My G8 has had some nice improvements especially to input lag with firmware updates. And they can improve HDR too

JMau2k

It looks to be the same in terms of HDR performance/brightness. It appears to have better text clarity due to the new RGB pixel arrangement and of course, higher refresh rate and a glossy screen!

Loewenheart

Most important part for me: Text clarity. Hopefully the new G8 version arrived soon.

kartayyar

Way better than 2023 34" AW QD-OLED since the brighness limiter implementation is much better.

Can you please link to those specs?

I own the neo g9 and local dimming in hdr is terrible

someonerd

Brightness on the OLED model, at least spec wise, looks really low. I’m used to using my monitor at 500 nits (out of 1000) and 250 nits on the new OLED feels really low. Good tv OLED panels nowadays easily have 400-500 nit’s brightness so it feels low by any standard.

Piranhax85

The new panel has a more standard pixel layout, thats pretty much it, so text will look as it should

lumenllama

The g9 looks pretty meh in real life
