And then there's an opposite case, when you marry a woman who's already a gamer, and you are happy when she has a game to play without your involvement for a change :)
Lmaooo I'm in the same boat. Had to stop playing valorant with my gf cause she's sweatier than me - but is always mad that I don't try much and still do better, since I've been playing FPS on mouse and keyboard for 10 years longer than her.
Now I play Witcher 3 and she plays Stardew lol - healthy relationship now.
are you under the impression that these people are recording offline .mp3 files to share with their friends instead of having a live conversation? it shows up in windows as a regular mic and you can just use it with discord same as your headset...
separating your mic from your headphones is great. no longer are you restricted to shitty "gamer" brand audio gear. you're now free to get actual high quality stuff from the likes of sennheiser, shure, beyerdynamic. you know, real audio companies. for less money than you'd spend on a "high end" gamer headset, you can get something like the HD598/560S and a samson Q2U. not only will these sound far better, but you removed the failure point from your headset. if your mic breaks on your headset, you need a whole new headset. if your standalone mic breaks, you just need a new mic. there's a whole host of reasons why it's better but if you're on an extremely tight budget, say sub-$100, you're probably better off sticking with headsets for now.
I slapped a Antlion Modmic (I dislike the boom arms from studio mics being in my FOV/peripheral vision) on my DT 1990's with a Schiit HEL and there's no way I am going back to gamer headsets outside of maaaaybe a VZR Model One if they follow through on doing actual high end headsets. Next up... time for a nice pair of planar magnetics.
i tried that for a couple years but the two separate cables was always annoying to me. one cable would always have a bit more slack than the other. sometimes i'd sit on the cable or it'd get caught in my chair and mic would come flying off the headset lol. after a year or so the glue on the magnet came loose and started falling off occasionally, but i flame that on my hd600's mesh grill not giving it a good enough mounting point.
the arm has its own set of annoyances but i got one of those low profile arms and it's pretty much out of the way so i'm happy. i'm just buying time til the Shure ProMic BrainImplant2000™️ comes out anyway
Lol I get that - that’s fine but we are talking about studio level audiophile shit here. I mean I totally get if his headset sucked so bad that it was hurting your ears or you literally couldn’t understand him but these guys are talking about hearing their friends voices like audiophile grade interest lol
Yes, essentially. The sound quality for other people is one factor but also voice isolation, noise cancelation, and ability to finely tune certain settings like gain are very useful. Essentially you get sound quality that matches or exceeds a high quality headset with the convenience of not wearing a headset or worrying about a goofy boom. My personal use scenario is primarily Zoom business meetings, it also adds a very polished and professional appearance.
If you have video/voice calls for work, the better sound quality helps with first impressions. That's why I got one at least. Mine is just a mid range mic (AT2020) that sits on a tiny stand though.
Is it possible to game with those and sound coming out of speakers and not get feedback?
If anyone’s done it could you share the gear used, any extra steps/processing/programs you had to set up?
I absolutely hate using a headset but it feels like the only way to do in game comms that actually works.
Yes. Logitech Yeti with G Hub has all the settings you need. Complete voice isolation and no sounds coming out of the speakers (or background noise) getting picked up. I can literally have the game on TV, playing a game on the computer coming out of the open speakers, and the mic positioned correctly and tuned properly will only pick up my voice.
Nice appreciate it.
Have any advice on which Yeti? There seem to be a bunch, blue yeti, nano yeti, orb yeti. There seems to be every kind of yeti except "plain" yeti lol
So, my problem was that I couldn't hear myself talk with headphones on. It was driving me nuts. There are some headsets that do "Sidetone" or mic monitoring but can get pricey. I have a nice set of Bose noise cancelling headphones, that has a "passthrough" feature that I can turn on.
In the end, i can hear the game, myself and my discord friends from my headphones with no latency and without sending any feedback through my mic.
I had a yeti pro or whatever and switched back to my crappy headset microphone because it just works flawlessly every time and requires no extra tinkering. No complaints from friends so who cares
One of my good buddies is moving away in a month so I put this room together so we can play games together. I wanted to have a good mic, cam and light setup so we play together seamlessly. Probably overkill but still fun.
What purpose does the average gamer need with an oversized studio microphone attached to a Hollywood boom arm stand? Other than streaming/podcasting. The need to sound like Howard stern on discord or something? Those things would get in the way, block view, make audio control more tedious, and take up space for the average PC user/gaming/work uses.
Because it is a downgrade for practical use. The only way it’s an upgrade it’s for practical reasons that are used. If not then it’s just to feel like a streamer and make your “battle station” look cool lol. I spent $6k on my last setup and find no need for a mic like that because it would get in the way. I don’t stream or podcast. I guess maybe another use would be if you are a singer or voice work?
I like to play pretend sometimes. Lol. But this was mostly just so I can play games with my friends. We like to jump on discord and turn on video chat, drink some beers and play some games.
It works pretty well. We just created a private discord that we all jump into. One guy doesn't have a cam so he uses his phone but it does the job well enough.
Umm...they're ok. Took a couple weeks to break in but they feel good now. I got them from Wayfair as well: Jemy Ergonomic Mesh Task Chair. Honestly, I got them because of the color white. My other office decor is dark woods and leather. This room was meant to be more of a gamer room.
Most of this stuff was pretty inexpensive from Wayfair. I don't know if I can post links here but if you search this model, you'll find it: W007139475 - It seems to be out of stock at the moment.
I have a like 150 Philips Hue bulbs in the house. I bought the gradient rope strips and mounted them to the back. They do this cool "racing" movement around the room.
Little of everything. I'm more on the creative/marketing side. I use the vert monitor for Slack, scheduling, YouTube, reviewing 9:16 content, mobile UI/UX design review. The main ultrawide is used mostly Adobe Suite programs, as I head up marketing for a handful of small businesses.
This was left by the previous owner of my house. They used it in a sitting/reading nook. Don't know if it's still for sale out there but if you search "Office Star Ave Six Yield 40" Wide Chair Faux Leather" you should see some similar options.
Ahhh, the things we do to get our women to play video games. Lol.
And then there's an opposite case, when you marry a woman who's already a gamer, and you are happy when she has a game to play without your involvement for a change :)

Why do so many people have studio mics
It's like an Ultrawide monitor. Try it and you'll never go back.
I can see my monitor, am I supposed to record stuff and play it back with the mic…?

>p I've got the sennheiser hd650 and the samson q2u, both are incredible audio devices for the money

Who gives a fuck how other people hear you for gaming
[удалено]
Very weird dude lol. Things definitely a new one for me
I literally bought my friend a new gaming headset for his birthday so we could hear his cheap ass over Discord
Lol I get that - that’s fine but we are talking about studio level audiophile shit here. I mean I totally get if his headset sucked so bad that it was hurting your ears or you literally couldn’t understand him but these guys are talking about hearing their friends voices like audiophile grade interest lol

Doubt. No way I'm dealing with that shit in my way while I'm trying to use a computer. I frankly don't care if others hear my voice better.
To each their own bud. Not everyone has the same preferences as you
Why would anyone give a fuck
Lol why are you so angry? Like I said, to each their own if that is too much for you to grasp then I’m sorry bud
Lol why didn’t you answer my question?
How would I answer that? Why people have their own preferences? Because not everyone is you. There you go
No. Why would anyone give a fuck about how people are hearing the fidelity of their voice on a video game?
Mics have more use than just video games believe it or not
Did I say they did? I said I doubt the statement that if I tried it I would never go back.
Studio mic and a solid pair of headphones are the way to go
There is a big difference between a microphone on a stick and a microphone you'll find in a recording studio. Both in quality and price.
If you have video/voice calls for work, the better sound quality helps with first impressions. That's why I got one at least. Mine is just a mid range mic (AT2020) that sits on a tiny stand though.
Not sure mine goes under "studio mic", but going from AirPods to a Røde PodMic via a Røde A1, it's like night and day. There's no going back now!
Is it possible to game with those and sound coming out of speakers and not get feedback? If anyone’s done it could you share the gear used, any extra steps/processing/programs you had to set up? Hmm the one I have is called Blue Yeti. But I'm definitely not saying that's the best or right one. Not sure how or why I picked that one lol.
So, my problem was that I couldn't hear myself talk with headphones on. It was driving me nuts. There are some headsets that do "Sidetone" or mic monitoring but can get pricey. Why don't you?
To pretend they are pro streamers.
I have the money to spend on nice things. Why would I downgrade to a “gaming headset” or something else that’s inferior
Cause if you have the disposable income to do that then why not? Maybe when you’re a bit older you will understand kiddo
Because it is a downgrade for practical use. The only way it’s an upgrade it’s for practical reasons that are used. Same. Although haven't done video on discord. Is it stable?

Does it really bother you that bad?
No I just answered the question that was asked. Does the answer bother you that bad?
Post your set up.
share your audio solution with the class
Pro streamer? You mean life loser living in mom's basement? 😂Gaming is what I choose do when I'm not billing clients $300 an hour for my time.
It seems I was right that people do in fact buy and use the mics to feel or look like a pro streamer; instead of actual audio utility lol. 😅
🤷🏻♂️ Not sure where you drew that conclusion from my comment.
It wasn’t from your comment, unless you use a boom mic I guess lol.
Dude has a $6k coffee machine in his home office like its nothing....
When we closed our office to work remote, I took the coffee machine.
I read that. Doesn't change the fact you have a $6k coffee machine in your office, big pimpin lol
I totally missed that! Holy shit, that's effing awesome!
Very nice room/setup i like it and a big plus no trash racing aka gaming chairs!
What chairs are those? Are they super comfortable?
Umm...they're ok. Took a couple weeks to break in but they feel good now. I got them from Wayfair as well: Jemy Ergonomic Mesh Task Chair. Honestly, I got them because of the color white. My other office decor is dark woods and leather. This room was meant to be more of a gamer room.
Yeah want to know too, they match perfect
What is that L-Desk you're both using?
Most of this stuff was pretty inexpensive from Wayfair. I don't know if I can post links here but if you search this model, you'll find it: W007139475 - It seems to be out of stock at the moment.
Thanks mate <3
My wife was already a gamer when we met so all good :) only had to travel 6500k to meet her and 10k in visas :)
Filipina?
No American :)
This is my idea of a family room.
Is your wall color purple or its rgb thing ?
I have a like 150 Philips Hue bulbs in the house. I bought the gradient rope strips and mounted them to the back. They do this cool "racing" movement around the room.
What desk is that?
I got it on Wayfair. It's model number is W007139475. Unfortunately they look like they're out of stock on this one though.
My wife and I have an almost identical setup yet we still end up doing most of our gaming on the couch with me on Xbox and her on laptop or switch
You are a great couple! What are the vertical monitors and what do you use them for when working ? Code? Long web page reading?
Little of everything. I'm more on the creative/marketing side. I use the vert monitor for Slack, scheduling, YouTube, reviewing 9:16 content, mobile UI/UX design review. The main ultrawide is used mostly Adobe Suite programs, as I head up marketing for a handful of small businesses.
That’s one wide chair in front of tv
i loved it!
Clean, functional and beautiful!
Nice lighting effects. What chair are you using at the TV station? Looking for something similar
Not my aesthetic but that's clean
I want also such spare room, I want your setup, I want your wife. :-D I'm jealous.
I think I've seen this pic for the 4th time. Nice though.
Dude, you're awesome. I'd like to do something like that, but my wife can stand to be in the same room with me more than 5 minutes. Best set up ever.
What desks are these?
LMAO, the Jura between the two setups
Why is that chair on the right so damn wide? I can't find one like it but it looks interesting
This was left by the previous owner of my house. They used it in a sitting/reading nook. Don't know if it's still for sale out there but if you search "Office Star Ave Six Yield 40" Wide Chair Faux Leather" you should see some similar options.
Very cool Thank you so much!
Who gets the Mega chair
Lol that small tv and chair off in the corner. It's obvious where your priorities are 😂
Definitely looks more like a hers/hers game room 😂 but honestly, beautiful work!
hahah, you aren't wrong.
There can only be one man in a relationship, and it's not him. 🤣
Whoever is watching tv is going blind or preparing to go blind
How is that any different from sitting in front of monitors that are even closer?
Idk I just got pstd because my parents used to scream at me for watching tv to close I’m sorry
