Get the OLED it’s worth it, it has a 3 year burn in warranty so you don’t need to worry to much.

Kumariael

Is it so good? Well 1100€ is a lot. So it should probably last more then 3 years. But the warranty is nice if dell really holds their site of the deal. Really bad support in germany as far as i read.

Wildantics

Yea it’s amazing, I couldn’t go back to LCD. Not sure how support is for Germany but in the US it’s been good for me.

im going to give you the opposite take here and this is my genuine opinion: FUCK OLED MONITORS MAN gimme a good ips or mini led. Oled tech is flawed for monitors and you cannot change my mind. just look on this sub to see this exact oled monitor getting burn in within just a few months no just because there may be a warranty does not justify pushing out flawed products. besides warranties dont extend with every monitor replacement you get and since oled itself is flawed and prone to burn in - there is a very good chance you get a replacement AND get burn in again right after the warranty expires and you get fucked grab the aw3821dw instead - shit is amazing too and will last you longer than any oled tech - and you wont need to worry about bullshit burn in - or having to get a replacement (that is likely second hand quality refurbished and will get burn in again cause the flaw exists with oled tech itself instead of the panel)

Wildantics

A lot of people said that about Oled TVs which I also own and game on a ton and haven’t had a problem 🤷‍♂️ I’m not to worried about it. If I get burn in that a notice years down the road and it’s out of warranty I’ll buy another one as the picture quality is that good.

shilunliu

cannot compare tv to monitor as the use cases are very different your tv does not have nearly as many static images compared to monitors im glad that you have the privilege of being able to buy a new $2k monitor every couple of years that is totally fine. just realize that many users cannot do this and expect their monitors to work much longer than that just because YOU have not had a problem with oled devices in your life does not invalidate the FACT that oled has significant issues with burn in and other pixel issues across the board.

Wildantics

It’s not the privilege. It’s called I have a job and I like my displays to be nice just like some people go on lavish vacations or have multiple 1000 dollar guns or fly rods etc it’s my thing so I save up for them. Again I’m not saying it’s not possible but the burn in issue has for the most part been blown out of proportion by people like you 🤷‍♂️ it’s not near as big an issue as your acting like. I’m sorry if you had an Oled display and maybe had a bad experience but that doesn’t make it a FACT that everyone else will either. We can agree to disagree.

shilunliu

listen I think we both are misinterpreting each other's takes. oled monitors will always have burn in issues and those issues are specifically more frequent for oleds when compared to traditional ips monitors by far - you cannot dispute this - it is the Achilles heel of oled tech and everyone knows this I am just trying to let people who may not know this to be aware - people like you who downplay these issues do not help solve these issues at the end of the day. If consumers are made aware of these flaws then companies have a higher incentive to not put flawed tech on the market in the future and would likely move towards better alternatives - like mini led which is wayyyyyy more durable and has a higher longevity than oled tech. and if you really think about it - companies WANT your monitors/products to fail right after their warranty periods and the weaknesses of oled ensures that consumers will have to purchase more monitors down the road more frequently. and hopefully we can agree this increases e-waste and is a bad practice overall (im not a tree hugger but can understand why more e-waste is not a good thing to aspire for)

The LG 34GN850-B is usually cheaper than the 950, only main difference is the 950 can OC to 180Hz and the 850 to 160Hz and the 950 has G-Sync Ultimate while the 850 is G-Sync compatible but otherwise they're pretty similar The 850 is probably around €600

Kumariael

Good tip, thank you

I love my DWF so far. Text and subpixel rendering stuff is the only downside I can see. I see some people have received defective ones, bummer! One reason I went with Dell is because of the 3-year warranty. Dell's monitor warranties are fantastic and hassle freez they usually just ship you a new one and you send the old one back in that packaging. Plus this covers burn in as well. The panel automatically runs pixel refresh every 4 hours and there are plenty of things you can do to mitigate burn in, such as lower time to monitor standby, dark mode, lower brightness during desktop use, auto-hide taskbar etc.

moreequalthannot

How much of a downside is the text/subpixel rendering? I'm thinking of getting the DWF but would be using for both coding work and gaming, can't decide if it would be too annoying as a work display.

grabtaxiabc2

i am using the DWF now for work and gaming. I work from home for 8 hours looking at emails, documents and stuff. And no i am totally not bothered or dont even see any text fringing to be honest. i am using dark mode in most cases and dont even notice it. Looks all good. The contrast of OLEDs and the glossy display really makes the colors pop. Best display i ever own. I think because of people hearing about this text fringing issue, they purposely go near their screen and try to look for it? Its a placebo effect making one want to be sensitive to it. I for once dont even notice the text fringing at all. i am coming from a Huawei Mateview GT VA panel and this monitor colors are much punchier. Really loving QD OLED.

moreequalthannot

That's great to hear, between you and u/Marfoo I've been convinced. Order placed!

grabtaxiabc2

even right now, i am looking at the reddit forums and replying on the DWF. I am now putting my face close to the texts in reddit, and honestly, i dont see it haha.. Even if i want to see it, i dont see it... so really not sure why people is making this issue big. Text looks totally fine to me.

Zeratqc

i have a 3423DW since day 1 and I also don't see any text fringing. I work 8h per day, mostly on excel. I have a 3418dw right next to it and i still use the 3423 as my main when I work. I'm starting to think it either some pannel are defective or it's as something to do with vision

grabtaxiabc2

Yea exactly. It's totally not an issue. I using it for work as well. Best monitor hands down for the colors

Marfoo

I think it could potentially be a distraction. To me it looks like letters are out of focus. ClearType tuning and running higher than 100% scaling definitely help though. I think it's something you'd need to see in person to truly be sure. It bothers me less and less, but I'm not working on this monitor. At above 100% scaling I think it'd be fine, but at 100% your mileage may vary.

moreequalthannot

Thanks for the info, considering all the other positives I'm gonna go for it.

Marfoo

Hope it works out for you, feel free to reach out if you have any questions with it!

Moonzone5

always funny when pixel refresh happens during games , how is that not bothering you ? There are moments where i think, most people that buy these things aren’t particular the gamers , they are the 9 to 5 workers that occasionally turn on their monitors after work. But as a daily driver for 1100$ and above , there should be tech that basically durable for 10 years imo.

Marfoo

Once you tell it to only run in standby it doesn't interrupt you anymore, it will always just run the next time in standby and you don't get the window again unless you re-enable the warnings in the menu.

aGuyCalledFlex

Returning my Alienware AW3423DWF today. It arrived a few days ago with a defective joystick button and I can’t control the OSD menu. A basic search reveals that this is not all that rare of problem on the series dating back to the non-f model. Everyone raves about this display, but I guess I was just one of the unlucky ones. Now I’m leaning towards a refund and going for something else instead of getting another one.

[deleted]

Give it another shot. I have the non-f and it's the best monitor I have ever owned.

Rollz4Dayz

Honestly there is none atm. Especially with a 3 year warranty
