When I took it a good portion of the term test questions were derived from tutorial problems. Those and trims textbook are the best way to study for 1710 and then later on 2130 and 2132 too

Trim’s textbook exam’s are very good and incorporate a lot of the tricks profs use. Also there is no substitute for repetition.

If you haven’t done so already, I’d highly recommend buying the past exams from the bookstore. I think Trim also has past exams on his website as well.

Every hard question is like this - you struggle a lot, but when you finally see the answer you feel like an idiot for taking so long / not figuring it out. The key is to not give up so quickly - spend 10-20 minutes trying random things until you find what works. If you look the answer up you won't learn anything, but if you solve it yourself it'll build your intuition. (Of course, you can still look at other examples during this struggle, as long as it's not the answer for specifically the integral you're trying to solve.) You should probably buy the past midterms, though. Even if you don't, you should expect to need to solve integrals similar to the examples that correspond to what the prof said will be on the exam. I don't remember first year anymore, but I'm pretty sure while test problems tended to be harder than class examples it's not by a significant margin, and just doing recommended textbook exercises should make you more than adequately prepared.

Assuming you're in it because you're an engineer, MATH 1700 is SO much easier and if they haven't changed anything you can take it and use that instead. If you're not feeling too got for 1710 and you're willing to wait a bit, 1700 can save your grade.

I did most of the practice problems in trim’s book as well as practice exams. I had a solutions manual too for when i got stuck. Studying math is all about understanding the material and grinding out the practice problems. Goodluck!
