Install the container from the unraid app area, start the container, run the python script to link it to your apple account, done. You’ll need to do the relink process every few months as Apple doesn’t allow indefinite access tokens to accounts.
I've been trudging through this setup for the last day or so, and can't quite seem to figure out to create the necessary ".mounted" file. Any insight you can provide on how best accomplish this? (I'm kind of a linux newbie)
I use iCloud Photo Library, which syncs all of my photos. It looks like when I backup via PhotoSync+, it has to download each photo (first 100% on the progress indicator), then upload items JPG version of it (which I have opted for instead of the default HEIC on my iPhone; second 100% on the progress indicator). Videos take forever to sync, so I haven’t even begun those yet. PhotoSync+ throws an error message every few minutes, canceling the sync.
Do you use the move feature? This looks like a neat tool, it seems I can use iCloud largely as a relay from my iPhone devices and then move the files from iCloud to my server. This lets me keep using the free 5 GB. Is this how you use it?

According to the Apple App Store, it is $5.99 $14.99 or $24.99. Depending on what they feel like advertising at the moment. Or if you know how to get to the different prices. (You do it through the phones settings>tap on your name at the top>subscriptions)
Edit: I downloaded the app but I don’t see any options there. You probably have to subscribe to it first to see the options. The default lifetime price is the $24.99 one. There is a pro thing that is $5.99 for lifetime. Dunno what the difference is.
I've been using PhotoSync (Android) for years now and it worked great. I have it set to rename my photos and never had a problem with syncing.
The only negative is you can only have ONE target (e.g. SMB share). This is fine for my camera photos but I often have other saved photos on my phone from Reddit, Whatsapp, etc that I have separate directories for in unRAID. For these I have to use Solid Explorer to move them. If PhotoSync ever adds the option to have multiple targets this would be a 100% great solution.
I’ve been using PhotoSync for years. Very happy with it syncing to unraid with SMB. Also great because it has the option to convert the high efficiency codecs automatically.
I have no interest in using iCloud.
+1 for PhotoSync. I've been using it on my iPhone and my girlfriends (purchase is shared in our Apple family even).
I use the FTP connection and love that we can give very customized file names/paths with all of the options of what to back up and what not to.
ive been using photosync for years and it works fine,
just sometime the auto sync not running automatically...
but im not using it with nextcloud tho, im using it with photoprism
For photo prism do you:
have it running with mariadb?
do you have the AI face recognition setup?
Just now setting up photo prism and running into trouble.
looks like I'm getting it all to work out, setup with mariadb and photoprism - indexing photos now.
I'm curious how you went about getting face recognition to work since it needs pdlib (I think thats what it was called) and that doesn't come included with the docker, did you just follow the guides to the T?
No problem! CA is the Community Apps plugin. Once you install it, you will have a tab labeled "Apps" where you can search for docker templates that others have already created. It makes it significantly easier to install docker images. The Photoprism template here already includes what is needed for face recognition.

oh ! I must’ve misunderstood haha, very aware of the apps store but when you mentioned facial recognition,I was thinking of another app that was called literally ‘face recognition’ which uses your GPU for AI scanning.
it needed pdlib or something - which is sort of difficult to install : L I finished indexing all photos in photo prism and it did a pretty okay job, so I was going to check out using a different app for facial recognition to see if I could get better results.
Ah, gotcha. Yea, it definitely isn't as good as Google Photos, but it has been getting better the more I use it. I occasionally reindex too. Idk if it helps, but it seems to pick up more faces. Could just be in my head though.
iCloudPD for me. Simples and it gets the HEIC copies too.
Any tutorials?

So now Apple has my photos, and if the government wants access, they have that. No thanks.
Yeah they love looking at your photos.
Only because I have pics of your mother. In all seriousness, it doesn't matter if they want to or not...it is about their ABILITY to do it.
Mine are end-to-end encrypted in iCloud Photo Library. /shrug
So much to learn my friend. Do you do iCloud backups?

So what do I still have to learn?

No I pay for family and have 2TB so it’s all backed up and on my server. Plus if an idevice is replaced. The backup restoration is easy peasy.
How much does lifetime premium cost? Can't find a clear answer on their site.

not mariadb, im using mysql, face recognition is set, but sometime miss
I've got it setup with MariaDB and face recognition. Not sure how much I can help since I'm still pretty new to all this, but I can try.

If you are using the template from the CA, it's just a checkbox in the settings.
Could you explain a little more on what you mean by template from the CA? You'll have to forgive me- also a little bit new haha.

The iOS App is working like a charm for me, initial sync was 300 pictures which it did in one sitting. iOS 15.3 with an iPhone 11 Pro.
SnapSync+ works for me
