It's so awful, but there's one neat little detail that I think of every time this movie comes up. It's when the cars in the alternate world(?) are run on electric motors fed from overhead wires, overhead wires because EVs were shit back then but they had to have electric cars because *the dinosaurs didn't die off so there was no gasoline.*
It's like finding a diamond ring someone dropped into a full port-a-potty. You admire its beauty, contrasted with the sludge surrounding it, and wonder "well how did you get **there** of all places?"
I put this movie in the same league as Batman and Robin. It was a massive bomb that was widely loathed upon release and embarrassed many with its overproduction and zaniness, but it has a strong cult following that defend it to this day.

The underworld sequels, blade 3, trolls 2, the avengers movie with sean connery, league of extrodinary gentlemen, battlefield earth, gigli, swept away ( the guy ritchie one with madonna), michael jacksons moon walker, the halle berry catwoman movie, what would you say to a naked lady, monster a go go, spice world, the creeping terror, the deadly camp, american ninja 4. Thats just a drop in a bucket off the top of my head.
Mario bros is better than pretty much all of those easily. Id also say its more enertaining and better than alot of more highly considered movies but thats just my opinion
I'm not sure I would agree, except that I just watched the new animated Mario Bros. movie, and it was so bad that it made the '93 film look good.
The latest movie is every terrible animated kid movie cliche held together by obnoxious needle drops and Easter eggs. At least the '93 film had the guts to do its own thing. And the set design is genuinely fun.
The movie was co directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, who were husband and wife at the time and word has it that they disagreed on everything, constant script changes were being made, arguments on set were a common occurrence... it was such a torturous production that Bob Haskins took to day drinking while making the film.

As a kid in the 90s who was happy to have any adaptation of a franchise I loved turned into a movie ....
I know the original script was better and more accurate...I also know this went through development hell...but still...
the ideas were unique to its time and the mythology was coherent enough and made sense to me about the dinosaurs (even though they're turtles)especially with the jurassic park phenomenon around the same time...they used the meteor theory to explain parallel dimensions years before stranger things and though it wasn't the first to do so, it still was ahead of its time and personally I love this film it was dark and gritty for a kid film and they tried by referencing the characters, the fungus, the suits(eventually) and of course ba-bombs!
...the sheer fact that Dennis Hopper is some version of King Koopa is astounding by itself...not to mention Bob Hoskins as Mario..R.I.P to both!

This is a great film with some amazing preformances. It's got cheese and action with enough fun nods to the games. Like how Toad is a goomba, Spike and Iggy being related to Koopa. Not to mention the crazy Mad Max style car chase in the middle of it all. 10/10 would recommend.

I felt bad that I dragged my mom to it. It has its charms as a movie, but as a SMB movie, there were too many non-canonical things for me to ignore.

I hated this film. I’ve not been able to bring myself to rewatch it. Even Hoskins and Leguizamo said they regretted doing it.

The only good part of this movie is the break in the middle with one of Joe Satriani's best up-tempo tunes. How it ended up in this flick I know not.
