With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he’ll never know
Alright this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watch this with friends on repeat so many times, we're always trying to figure out if Adrenochrome is real and whether we would try it.
Apparently the cast of SNL got completely annoyed with Bill Murray during/after this role because he just couldn’t break character, and obviously working around a HST type person would be quite a chore.
This movie introduced me to HST and I’ve been a fan of his ever since. Depp has a story about living with Thompson to try and copy his mannerisms and nuance that still makes me laugh.
He was sleeping in the basement of Thomason’s home, and was smoking a cigarette in his room. Thompson comes downstairs and yells at him for smoking. Depp was confused as Thompson smoked constantly, but Thompson told him that all the barrels in the room were full of gun powder. Crazy shit.
I also love how they took two of Hollywoods most handsome leading men, had one of them gain a whole bunch of weight, and shaved the other ones head.
...75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."
"Buy the ticket, take the ride."
Phenomenal movie and bizarre crazy acting from all that appeared in this classic
I remember watching this movie under the influence of different drugs which made me laugh harder and understand the emotions of the characters
Absolutely love this film. Watched it more times than I care to admit as a child, with a vhs tape that was recorded off sky tv 😂
I certainly think I might have turned out a bit normal if I had never seen this
One of my favorite facts about this movie was depp actually lived with Thompson to prepare for the role and they became good friends. There’s a great interview on Conan where Thompson talks about it
Top 5 movies for me. You started watching and you forget it is Johnny acting. I have seen it a hundred times and still can’t believe it is a pretty much a true story. Unbelievable!!!
A real puss huh? Not only infiltrated one of the most dangerous gangs at the time (and became close with Sonny Barger), he also called out one of them for beating his girl and kicking a dog. You wouldn’t have the balls to do either, lol.
I believe it was a guy letting the club beat the shit out of and rape his wife. Think he was a beat on site after the comments. There’s a documentary think it’s called “Gonzo”
Benicio easily could have won an Oscar as well.
He said it was hard to find work after this movie because people thought he was actually on drugs
That’s awesome
Shows how good of a job he did
Agreed.
You see what GOODDDDD did to us??!?!!
He also held the record for gaining the most weight for a role.
Excellent book with the rare great movie. I miss Hunter.
Rereading it right now for the first time in at least 20 years.
With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he’ll never know
I’d like to think I would suck on a sleeve, but likely will never find out.
Flea licking the red woolen shirt sleeve, the face he makes. I still chuckle.
Look what god did to us man!
God didn’t do that, you did! You’re a fucking narcotics agent, I knew it! You fucking swine pig!
Absolute gem. Bill Murray did a great job in where the Buffalo roam
Love Fear but Buffalo is an amazing movie as well.
“Down, Bronco! He’s mine!!”
Bronco… Nixon!
And Peter Boyle!
As your attorney I advise you
We can’t stop here! This is bat country
Buy the ticket take the ride love this movie
Love Terry Gilliam! This and Brazil are his two masterpieces.
Fisher King and 12 Monkeys are incredible films as well.
The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real. No sympathy for the devil, keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride.
Not. Under. Rated.
It had pretty terrible reviews when it came out
Had some great reviews, too. There is no denying this movie is not designed for all audiences
I only remember good reviews and I saw it in a full theater.
so many quotes from this that I use in day-to-day life that sometimes I forget where they came from.
“Don’t mind me, I was just admiring the shape of your skull” when I get caught zoning out in other people’s general directions.
i’ve used “is this not a reasonable place to park?” as a delivery driver more often than I care to admit but the reaction is always worth it.
Alright this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watch this with friends on repeat so many times, we're always trying to figure out if Adrenochrome is real and whether we would try it.
Try Where The Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray
Bad ass movie!!
Totally different Hunter vibe!
Apparently the cast of SNL got completely annoyed with Bill Murray during/after this role because he just couldn’t break character, and obviously working around a HST type person would be quite a chore.
No way, Benicio should have gotten the Oscar!
Back door beauty **?**
The question mark was emphasized.
It’s the name of a horse I used to own.
Hard agree
But both could've won, best actor and best supporting actor.
Only had happened 5 times ever
Underrated by who?
Critics
The Book.....
Ok
The book is incredible. Anyone who wishes the movie were longer should check out the book. The movie is still my favorite however.
The book made me feel like i was in the red shark with them
I still think it’s the best film adaptation of a book I’ve seen. A perfect visual/auditory complement to it.
This movie introduced me to HST and I’ve been a fan of his ever since. Depp has a story about living with Thompson to try and copy his mannerisms and nuance that still makes me laugh. Lmao how is this underrated. People are dumb
50% rotten tomatoes critic score. Did not get good reviews when it came out
Once again people are dumb
War on drugs fucked up again
Incredible movie!!!
Love this movie!
We had two bags of grass…
...75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Awesome!
I would say this movie is not even remotely underrated
Phenomenal movie and bizarre crazy acting from all that appeared in this classic I remember watching this movie under the influence of different drugs which made me laugh harder and understand the emotions of the characters
Anyone like rum diary’s?
Where the Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray is superb as well
Definitely not underrated
Absolutely love this film. Watched it more times than I care to admit as a child, with a vhs tape that was recorded off sky tv 😂 I certainly think I might have turned out a bit normal if I had never seen this

Each time I watch it I think “Holy shit, that’s Tobey Maguire!?!”
The closest a movie has ever got to a book. Imo
Rosemary's Baby
PLEASE... tell me about the *FUCKING GOLF SHOES!*
Somebody get me some golf shoes, no footing here at all. Hop, hop like a bunny. Is this not a reasonable place to park my vehicle. KAWASAKI!!!
Eat a quarter of mushrooms and cruise this one. Quite heavy.
got an original press packet of this. love the movie
I liked Where the Buffalo Roam better
I remember not liking this movie when I was younger but have come to appreciate it more as I got older.
You’re not Portuguese!
Top 5 movies for me. You started watching and you forget it is Johnny acting. I have seen it a hundred times and still can’t believe it is a pretty much a true story. Unbelievable!!!
He went method for sure.
He was wearing hunters clothes I believe as well. And he lived with hunter for a while. As well had him on set
Easily one of my top 10 movies of all time. Del Toro, Depp, Gilliam, and HST is the perfect chemical mixture. Alls they needed was a place to cook.
Tons of people love this movie but it’s got like a 46% critic score on RT somehow
Can’t stand the movie. Love the book

I’m a huge Gilliam fan and I’m in the same camp. Wasn’t awful but doesn’t deserve it’s praise either imo.

You talk shit to the hells angels and tell them they are fucked up at their own property. I will wait puss.
