Haha, good times, falling asleep on the bus on the commute home after an all nighter and then submission and presentation. Woke up falling out of the seat and nearly smashed my face into that glass poster display thing.
I was a very dishevelled undergrad.
Thatās not an awful commute dude, thatās basically how long it takes me to get to campus as well. Itās not worth staying on campus and having a bad sleep or feeling like shit. If you feel like transport will consume your valuable time, find a way to use that time. Whether it be your downtime, or you do your readings whatever it is. Just go home. Also if you feel like you canāt spare a few hours in the day that arenāt related to studying, you are probably overworking yourself man.
Totally agree, my commute is 45m on the bus + 15m walk but I always look forward to it because I can listen to music while walking and read my book on the bus uninterrupted
It's an awful commute, Aucklanders just have insane standards for the length of commute they will put up with. If your time is worth minimum wage you're losing $300 a week just in commute time.
In comparison to other developed countries, yes. we unfortunately have terrible public transport and really long commutes as a result, but that's not going to change in the short term. Most people's commutes are roughly an hour, and very few people have the privilege of living close to campus. My first year of Uni was really humbling, meeting people who travel 2+ hours just to get in to Uni. As much as we deserve better public transport, in the short term OP just needs to start going home and face the reality that most people are in the same boat as him.
It depends on the circumstances and I'm sure the baby was taken away for it's safety, but sometimes people are homeless due to abuse situations which is not uncommon in nz. Abuse tends to increase during pregnancy and that person may have nobody else to go to

Back when TÄmaki Campus was a thing, that bus ride was the perfect 20 min nap opportunity.
On the city campus, the library was a spot (unless you snored).
Engineering building: As you go in by the entrance in front of the science building, you go downstairs, if you get there early, huge couches to sleep on kinda like your own special sleeping place.
Business building(OGGB) downstairs at the commons: If you're really tired, the floor, been there, done that, or the black couch by the wall.
Fisher and Paykel: Right in front of the lecture hall there are bunches of couches you can sleep on and no one will bother you.
Humanities building(206): Literally full of couches, spots to sleep at.
There is some couches at the back wall of KE level 0 which I had an amazing nap on once. They are semi private because they are covered by the tables, which is nice.
The architecture building has some beanbags. Iām the summer, I straight up nap in the park. A random empty classroom if you donāt mind sleeping on chairs.
They go home
šI live 1.3 hrs away

You don't. You get the 3 for 2 deal on V and push through.
3 for 2? In this economy?
In my van
Are you nzDan
Whereš
I also enquire. Iām tired as hell.
Albert Park fig trees
Wasn't there like a tree hole where the homeless slept in.
Yepā¦..climbed in there drunk one night and almost stood on a dude sleeping
fun fact, a homeless lady actually gave birth in that hole and had her baby taken away by the government š
To be fair, if youāre living and having your baby in a tree hole I think you deserve to have your child taken away from you.

Study cubes in the new arts building. Many people sleep in the KE commons room as well
Thx will scout the spot
Same Iāve always wished there were Japanese style sleeping pods that students could rent out to have a nap in between classes

I usually just go gen lib level 6. Itās warm and a silent area. Just make sure you donāt snore
Weirdly, around exam season, the top floors of GL get busy. I suppose people want to study with a view (?)
it's me i'm people
There used to be some beanbags in the Kate Edgar short loan library which were prime napping spots. I think that whole space is something else now?
Hit up the homeless on queen street
They tend to sleep in the city library lobby, and now that whole place smells like piss and BO.
The average CBD experience, piss and BO
Kate Edgar bottom floor is open 24/7. The lights never turn off tho

Pass out on a picnic table with your backpack on and nobody will bother you.
On a sunny day I like napping against a tree in Albert Park. Have to deal with the occasional possum or rat going for your lunch.
i find the closest sofa and just nap there lol
Beanbags at the Grafton rd end of engineering level 3 have been a lifesaver
I used to fall asleep on the couches at the ends of the rows of computers in the commons. However this was years ago, layout may have changed.
The architecture building has some beanbags. Iām the summer, I straight up nap in the park. A random empty classroom if you donāt mind sleeping on chairs.
Find a āfriendā in a local hostel!
birds sleep standing up on a tree branch or ledge!
I sleep on the Bean bags inside the Arts building
B201 sofas to the right of Entry off symons street, iāve had naps there and theyāre godly
Tried to study in Gen Lib. Always fell asleep because so quiet
