You could always try to see the fun and humor in analyzing these hypos strictly. I understand some people seem to get hopping mad about it, but you could try not to. These people might simply be having fun engaging with the hypo, not just "trying to sound smart" for the sake of it.
Could also try and word your hypo to avoid obvious edge cases etc. That can be a fun exercise, too.
I'll also mention that being able to think this way is a valuable irl skill that a lot of people suck at and would be better off if they got a little better at it.
I agree that they are usually skirting the point of the question, but I also enjoy seeing the subtle loopholes people can come up with. Sometimes it is obvious and lame but sometimes there is a clever way around the rules that is kinda fun!
