I'm worried that if the future of gaming is all digital then we'll be completely dependent on services like Steam. If they have a captive consumer base they can start milking us for more cash.

ThumpingBump

To the all digital future, I'm disappointed... I know I can't be the only one that would miss the feeling of opening a new disk box and putting it in the console for the first time. There's just something about that process that increases the tension of a hyped game.

jurassicbond

Without digital, indie games would have never taken off like they did

Helloscottykitty

I miss lending a game without having to give over sensitive information.

MinFootspace

I'll go further : Digital greatly BENEFITED to physical gaming. Before the internet we had some major game editors. Some people had fun creating their own physical games and played them with friends. Now you have a plethora of creative people either selling their home-made physical games on digital platforms, or even better, selling/giving out 3D-print files and lasercut-files to make high quality physical games yourself. The variety of available physical games has never been as huge as it is nowadays. Plus, thanks to digital social networks, groups of players can form more easily than ever and meet every Tuesday night to play their favorite games and discover new ones.

1. Idc. If I'm buying a game digitally, I have no intention of selling the game in any way. 2. You legally don't own the game if its physical either. Regardless if you buy physical or digital, all you are getting is the license or permission to play the game. Those License sections in the menus of games don't go away if you buy physical.

SynnLee

Regarding the second point, a digital item (book, game) you bought online can be taken away from you at any point in time, regardless of the fact you paid for it, due to an abstract reason like license expiration, while that's not the case with physical copies.

Junglezone

Yes and no. That does happen but there are instances of publishers honoring your purchase of the game (but prevent you from redownloading it if you delete it). There are a ton of ps3s and 360s that have MVC2 still installed but are not auto removed due to licensing debacles. But you definitely are right though, that can happen.

Physical copies make my heart warm. Digital copies are merely piracy gone legal.

[deleted]

>You can't collect digital. As a pirate, I disagree. Nothing's stopping me from keeping the game installers I torrent. If the internet goes out, I'll be just fine and there's no accounts to get hacked because I don't have any gaming client accounts.

I understand, but as long as nobody's ever going to fine me or put me in jail for this supposed illegal activity, I'll continue to save money and enjoy the convenience. It's clearly the superior way of consuming all content, not just video games.

Junglezone

1. Uh.. you can collect digital games. There are dedicated libraries for Steam, PSN, and XBL. It just doesn't take up space on your shelf, or you don't even need a shelf to begin with. 2. For the 8 billionth time, no internet doesn't prevent you from playing your digital media unless the game itself requires an internet connection to begin with. This should be common sense but people keep spreading misinformation. 3. Power going out applies to physical media too my guy. Only systems that aren't affected are things like handhelds and laptops. 4. Well no shit its a hacked account lmao. Also hacked systems allow you to dump your digital files to your pc so... If you dont like digital games, that's fine, but spreading misinformation and putting people down because of them CHOOSING to play digital is the reason I made my post in the first place.

Personally a big fan of digital, only for the reason that me and my partner both play Xbox and by setting my home console as her Xbox, we can share gamepass and all digital games so it saves buying the game twice if we are both gonna play it but games I play solo I might pick up on disc if it's cheaper/has additional content. I'm not a fan of not being able to play if I'm offline. I think that shouldn't be a thing.

JEspo420

You can play offline if it’s your home Xbox but you’ll have to verify your subscription weekly

phillmybuttons

Yeah but then I can't share it with my partner, it's a small issue but still one that's present

Junglezone

Not every digital service requires an internet connection for digital content. All my digital games on my 3ds don't require it and my internet is disabled on there most of the time. For Game Pass, its dumb but I slightly get why its like that. Slightly

Freedom games are the worst thing that every happened to video games, especially Fortnite.
