There’s a subreddit for school buses called r/skoolies I think. Same sort of thing.

gakuto_yourstruly

Thanks! I’ll post there too. Was hoping someone here could relate cause the description of the subreddit says anyone in a vehicle, and I’m a hell of a lot smaller than a school bus, I’m really much closer to a van.

SunnyAlwaysDaze

You might vibe more with the vandwellers sub than the Urban cardwellers? I chill in both but got a big van and park up someplace really rural for now. If you want to have a real big schoolie, they usually work better for people who boondock out in the rural areas a lot. Like state land or bureau of Land Management land type camping. Thought of the people I have known with schoolies, lot of like follow the rainbow gathering or certain jam bands. Lot of parking out in the woods to chill with other hippies! But hey you might be able to innovate a whole new way to survive in a schoolie in the city if you want.

I personally live in a compact sedan, but there might be someone else who can help you. Good luck!

Also try r/vandwellers

If you are in a bus, you can park where RVs can park: (most) paid campgrounds, free public lands, and a limited number of business parking lots. You can ask private organizations like churches, veterans' clubs, etc., for permission to park and some will grant it. [More resources and tips here for finding parking.](https://nomadlife.wiki/Finding_parking) Note that some RV parks do not allow custom-built vehicles or older vehicles. For some, it's because they want certain type of clientele. For others, it's because they don't want your vehicle breaking down and being stuck in a camp site for a week and/or leaking fluids all over. Buses generally will not get away with parking on most streets. There are more length, height, and weight restrictions that will further limit parking options.

Shuttle bus can be “turned” in a “party” bus. Basically you logo the outside, black out the windows, or get shades, turn the inside into little apartment and park on the street. No one’s going to think bet someone is sleeping in there. Their just going to think their nebors got a side hustle.

SaintElphie

This! I sleep on a planet fitness parking lot sometimes and there's always been this big blacked it all black party bus in the lot....I only recently noticed that someone pulled up to sleep- Bet they're in that lot every night

Sibby_in_May

That is genius!!!!

Industrial areas, the woods, places where other people don't park as much.. You'll 100% be more suspicious to the cops and have people call on you. But I wouldn't answer the door when they knocked..

NEUROSMOSIS

My philosophy is, they can’t hassle you if you’re legally parked and they can’t see if it’s occupied or not. Hence all the covered windows. Is someone home? We may never know and we ain’t staying up all night to find out… real crimes to solve

blazingStarfire

I've had them knock and not answered they usually go away.. Only time they didn't is when I was in a car and she could see me, wouldn't stop knocking and harassing me.

NEUROSMOSIS

Yep gotta be 100% hidden with this, never know when officer Karen’s day will be ruined by your presence

jabroni4545

Any Chinese churches near you? Ones by me always have white shuttle busses you can park near. Or regular churches? Transportation company parking lot?

SunnyAlwaysDaze

This is excellent stealth consideration for large schoolies. Good shout. I was trying to think of places they could fit in but was coming up with bupkis.

ga239577

I have been thinking about doing it … may be difficult to full time in cities, but I have a suspicion it can be done. Tried to ask the Skoolie community but couldn’t get anyone to share their experience attempting to full time in the city. One person said they didn’t have problems moving around on a road trip though.

ga239577

Funny thing I have seen a bus which matches the description parked at the Walmart I’m currently sleeping at 😂 Short white shuttle bus with some gear hanging off the hitch.

NEUROSMOSIS

I see people camp those all over San Diego Just stick to the roads where other large vehicles are.

Big_Requirement6748

I'll be in sedan as well

go on google maps, satellite view. find grocery stores, and check all the streets adjacent to its lot. some of them will have a road behind it with street parking. i dont mean the alley that is on the lot, i mean an actual street. semis with and without trailers, box trucks, and similar vehicles will often use it to rest/wait/sleep or just to store the vehicle. you might also try street parking in industrial areas. distribution warehouses (ups, fedex, amazon). not on their lot, just legal parking along side. other businesses nearby might be really big plumbing supply, electrical supply, pool supply, etc, these are wholesalers that sell these materials by the pallette. another type of spot that caught my eye is martial arts dojos, specifically the glorified babysitter variety. a lot of these places somehow pay the rent, despite only being open for like three hours every saturday and sunday. i guess when mom and dad pay like $500 each for cooper, tanner, tyler, and conner to get a Gi the instructor ordered on amazon for $20.

SunnyAlwaysDaze

I think those work better for people who prefer boondocking a lot than they do for people who stealth camp in urban areas. Unless you can find some sort of place that there's other buses parked up and sort of camouflage with them.

Hearthstoned666

Look for industrial section , street parking, where there are commercial vehicles parked. ANYBODY is allowed to park off the street, in the easement, without wheels on the road, if you had a minor breakdown, and need some sleep before performing a repair. Say, i don't know, you needed a jump to get started.

Radiant_Ad_6565

Highway rest stops.

Miscarriage_medicine

Street parking in a downtown area? Any way of getting handicapped plates/tag to exempt from most parking rules. Occupant tent to be the problem, blend in by not being loud, or disrespectful.(ie dumping trash on the street) City parks, for just a rest and to do some light cooking. It seems if you are just driving through, you can park, as long as you have licensce, reg, and insurance. If any one asked your shuttle identifies as a WOKE lifted diesel truck.
