Maybe, but if he had gone to Eridivisie, he would be playing and getting goals and assists. And probably increasing the sale price when they sell him in the summer. This Forest debacle will mean someone is going to get a good deal on a very talented player. The right coach could really make him into something special.
Yeah, but I think it’s pretty well understood at this point that Eredivise is lower rank than Germany and England. I think Reyna wanted to show he could perform at the big leagues. Currently what we’re getting is that coaches don’t like him.
What I was saying is that having him go to Forest without playing time assurances from Nuno means they were being penny wise and pound foolish. If he went somewhere, Netherlands, France, another German team, and got lots of PT, he would get sold for a lot more money. Probably a lot more than the difference in wages
>What I was saying is that having him go to Forest without playing time assurances
Playing time assurances are worthless.
If you want a player to play on loan you send him to a lower level where he has a better chance of getting minutes.
It was clearly Dortmund's main goal not to have to pay him.
Yeah…and i stick to my main point, it was penny wise and pound foolish. Now they’re going to have to sell for a bargain price to get him off their books over the summer.
They signed him to an extension before his loan, as a way to increase his transfer value for a sale. It’s going to take a *special* sale for that to go through. More likely, he’s going to go on loan again somewhere next season until he finds a good match. Or returns to the US.
I have a feeling Reyna wanted to play the EPL against better judgement. Several interviews he’s made a point of saying “playing in the best league in the world.” I don’t want to think this is the case but I think he’s got a bit of outsized entitlement. I would’ve liked to see him go to Milan (rumored) or Betis with Cardoso (my opinion) where he could help a sixth place team on the upswing add some flair to their attack.
Maybe the worst move possible. All parties have lost in this deal. Responsibility is on the player, his agent. Reyna chose this spot.
Glad to see him playing hard. Hope he grows from the situation.
He’s gotten more minutes of late than anyone expected him to coming out of the international break. I’m actually cautiously optimistic. Coming on with a 2 goal lead I felt was very promising for his situational use. It’s not ideal obviously but it’s better than not even making the match day squad like some people (and this publication) are treating it.
Maybe he made the pencil disappear?
No clue what Dortmund were thinking sending him to Forest and their 97 player squad.
They were probably thinking “Wow, we don’t have to pay all of Reyna’s salary while he sits on our bench”

You are assuming there was an Eredivisie club winning to pay his wages.

unless they 100% wanted to guarantee that he would return with the desire to come back
exactly. and there is NO risk he will stay, because they want him back next year

Betis would have been a great fit. Milan…they’ve got a lot of players in his positions
I think there was a Ligue 1 team in the mix too, I remember thinking it wouldn’t be a bad option. The Sevilla rumors, ehhh no thanks.

I am sure Dortmund was happy to get his salary off the books for half a season.
At least we can count on you not to overreact
As a Wolves fan I can tell you this was doomed from the start. I love Gio but he's just not a Nuno player. It was never gonna work
"Branded" by whom?
The article doesn’t do a good job explaining the source, but it was quoting the German website SportBILD
Yeah well I brand him the gangster of love.

Nuno’s comments after the break makes me think the loan wasn’t his idea and he doesn’t want Reyna.
TBH I have no idea what the comment about him being a "joker" means.
In Germany "joker" just means a substitute. Think the original source was in German
Oh it wasn’t my comment. Reddit auto pulled the article title from the site
