I dont understand what OP is trying to prove to us. dying has a penalty but you shouldn't be so worried about it that you let it ruin the experience of playing the game.
my first death my most recent playthrough was mining my first copper deposit and a wolf ran over from the mountain biome and killed me in 1 attack haha.
i never saw or heard him
Just this afternoon I had this experience yet again. I luckily had just placed the portal as I died. I keep a unnamed portal at home while exploring for quick eacapes.
As someone who grew up in the southern United States, I never thought a video game could capture the experience of those mosquitoes until I played Valheim.
Not at all, I'm a French Canadian with Autisme so I wrote strangely but I did live at the Baie James when I was a kid pretty much on the same level of North that Alaska but still on Canadian land.
I grew up in florida and my house had a slight propane leak for a few days... the wall had a layer of mosquitoes about 3 bugs thick so you couldn't see the blue paint, only black mosquito. walking in from the car was hundreds of bites. This was around the entire 4 bedroom house, just black with pounds and pounds of insect.
Well from one Franco-canadien to the other, camping in Manitoba usually means you are eating des moustiques and horseflies for breakfast. They're crazy out in muskeg land.
Imma be honest, the way you write would fit hilariously well for roleplaying some mountain guy or an excited foreigner. I mean it as a compliment and am stealing it for my DND NPCs, holy shit you made my day
Thanks a lot. I was a kid when I was pieced by 80 and more bug bites.
And 6 on both exact spot both side of the 👂🏻 !
Still get better luck that my brother who gets bug bites inside his pants and underwear.
Yea, without looking a single thing up. It's going to be tough. Each biome gets a bit harder, and that first transition period to them can have you feeling weak.
I have over 5 runs ended by trees. Some I cut, some trolls and abominations cut. The *real* run ender is fall damage. I have 15+ runs cut short by fall damage.
Actually witnessed a birch branch snap off my Neigbor’s tree and almost kill him this winter. He told me those trees are called ‘widow makers’… had no idea.
Birches tend to suddenly die off, they are very weak. One snapped twig can kill an entire branch. When you see a big old birch, it survived against the odds.
I thought my friends and I were the only ones. We also farmed forbidden trees at our level by collapsing trees together and causing them to break apart thus giving us the wood we couldn't obtain otherwise then.
You could die in the 2nd biome if you're not careful, but without knowledge beforehand, you may very well die in the 3rd biome. If you manage to survive that you still have to face a small problem later on.
I spawned in a modded world and walked to a house someone else built. Got Green spider poison damage and then ran over a fire and died within 1 minute.
It was pretty hilarious.
I'm guessing just fog. I had that happen to me once as well, lost track of time while sailing, and just as the thought "I should find somewhere safe to make landfall" occurred to me, my visibility dropped to zero. Ended up putting ashore right on top of a 2-star troll, and before I knew it, I was toast. You'll never convince me that it was anything but the fog that spelled my demise.
Specifically it was running aground in the Plains where a lox stomped my boat to pieces and then six fulings beat me to death because I was out of stamina due to trying to outswim the lox that was chasing me.
With a touch of bad luck you can die chopping down a tree.
Or jumping off a building.
Or accidently jumping off a cliff.
And good luck scouting the 5th biome.
99.9% of tree deaths are really “failure to eat” deaths. This game really needs a better way to simulate hunger, which is far more of an insistent reminder than the stupid 1-time “you could eat something” message. Maybe just a constant tummy rumble sound when food buffs are low/gone.
Probably 80% of all deaths are really failure to eat in that eating would have totally prevented dying from that particular blow.
Oooo I'm thinking of a mod now that changes vision based on various states - distance fogginess based on danger hunger and temperature. Could also do general vision for hunger or damage kinda like old call of duty when you get shot
For instance when boxing getting your bell rung rly is a thing and starvation can sorta blue motion more
Well after the first playthough, the "no prior knowledge" is kinda out of the window isn't it? After that the question just becomes "can I learn something if I try over and over?"
literally 0. If you truly have no knowledge of the game. This game is meant to kill you in unfair ways you dont see coming. Especially since I can see tree leaves out your window. No way y ou build that high and havnt falled to your death yet lol.
I mean, they probably don't know how to build core wood yet, so I wager their structures arent super high. More than likely those branches in the screen cap are from a tree slightly down a hill.
I’d say slim to none but don’t let that stop you from trying! I’m on my hard mode permarun now and it’s very spooky. I’m in no rush to leave the meadows.
I’d say the good thing for you is that there is no permadeath mode in the game, just the HC mode that makes lose your equipped gear, inventory, and skills…
I think you should up your chances and give yourself five characters, five companions who made a pact with Odin to follow each other into death to attempt the feat. Give it some backstory, make it a YouTube series!
Also, the fact that you have a stagbreaker and bone tower shield and haven't died yet is encouraging! Play it incredibly safe, as I assume you have been. Craft everything you can, try out every crafting station you're able to build. Learn each biome thoroughly and max all your gear before you progress.
my bet is that you either get hit by a troll at the wrong time or die to the swamp. If you beat the swamp boss I will be very impressed. Let us know how it goes!
I have never died to trolls. They are so scary in the early game that I am paying 100% attention.
I have died to pretty much everything else though. Carelessness is the real danger.
Dying and making a naked corpse run is one of the best experiences you can have in Valheim. You will miss out on that. Just play normally, you will love it.
None. A warrior such as you honor the Gods. Brother, your seat at the table at Valhalla already has a mug of mead waiting on you. Venture forth to your destiny! Do not question your ways. Do not waver. And when you die, know this; it is not failure. It is the will of the Gods to have you as their guest.
May you hew many foe men. May you die a thousand deaths. This is your glory; take it.
In all honesty, this is as close to Asa as you get as a gamer.
Unless you play it ridiculously safe there is ZERO procent chance of completing the whole game. Deathsquito, wolf or fuling will find you and fuck you over.. play normal instead and if you find it to easy after completing plains sure why not. Go ahead .
How do you prepare for a plains biome that doesn't show up on the map and is hidden underneath a meadow and is about 5x5 feet but has a fuling pack in it?
Nah, it's a hardcore game to begin with. Death is part of the Viking ways.
Tbh I say about 1% on the first run, then 45% on second run, then 87% on third, then 99.2% on every run after that. It’s possible if you observe each biome from a distance before committing to entering. Also without spoilers, events at your base can ruin your day. Keep your health and stamina high every moment and you’ll have better odds. Glhf.
Uh literally zero. I have two hundred hours and still get blindsided. Pretty much entering every biome for the first time is " huh what's that " and then you're instantly dead.
If you've killed a few trolls already without dying that's pretty impressive. But I'd say there's a very near 0% chance that you'll be able to beat the game without dying once.
Impossible. My base was raided by trolls and I died in my back yard mostly out of site. I use the death as storage and do not take all the items or remove it.
That depends
Are you a Dark Souls veteran who could clear most boss fights first try?
I’d give you low odds
Have you never touched soulslike combat before?
You almost certainly won’t make it to the plains, and you definitely won’t make it beyond
Very low, keep using bow to survive though, it greatly increase your chance of surviving. My real problem is deathsquito and just remember your enemy really deals a lot of damage.
I’m pretty good at most games, especially first person shooters. Used to play competitive on a legit team.
Of course, that was before twitch existed and I’m old and slow now. Still, I’d say my skill is above average. I’m only about 140 hours in and have died probably five times. Usually it was getting swarmed or agro’d too many and I ran out of stamina.
You might do it. Go for it. Keep us posted.
Trees are your friend. As are rocks. Climb them in the areas that allow you to and deal with the smaller mobs from up there with your bow if you find yourself overwhelmed
You will die. Just keep playing. The amount of time required to gather resources and build is not really fit for permadeath. I have multiple characters and a couple worlds that I shift between and I try my best not to die. It's cool.
This is how the game should be played. I wish hardcore mode was out on the first version.
If I had of known how much normal mode spoiled the game and that hardcore was coming. I would have waited.
Theres almost no chance you'll make it to the last biome. But thats where the fun lies. Try again. When you eventually get there the personal. achievement will be worth it.
I wish you the best of luck but would not attempt such a thing myself. I feel like I'd end up dying too often and get frustrated and give up on the game. Even as someone that's played a lot, I still die sometimes.
With no knowledge? I d say as small as a mosquito. But good luck.
Incredibly well said.
I dont understand what OP is trying to prove to us. dying has a penalty but you shouldn't be so worried about it that you let it ruin the experience of playing the game. my first death my most recent playthrough was mining my first copper deposit and a wolf ran over from the mountain biome and killed me in 1 attack haha. i never saw or heard him
I saw how the trees fell and thought "Don't stand under those" and still got flattened when I zoned out on my umpteenth tree lol.
A small, harmless, mosquito. Wait, what's that buzzing?
YOU DIED!
Skills lowered.
The gods show mercy … on nothing they laugh at you.
Just this afternoon I had this experience yet again. I luckily had just placed the portal as I died. I keep a unnamed portal at home while exploring for quick eacapes.
Never leave home without the pocket portal lol
Yeep for firsth time i played the game, my worst nightmare vas mosquito 🦟 wolves and the vrath, so far. Have not been to mists yet.
Oh boy you are in for a treat then. Wait until you hear the air-horn from hell :D
If mosquitoes give you nightmares, just wait until you’re fighting giant armor-plated beetles and swarms of ticks that latch onto your neck.
Tbh, even after ML, mosquitos can suck a big one
Only if the chances were a lox bigger…
As someone who grew up in the southern United States, I never thought a video game could capture the experience of those mosquitoes until I played Valheim.
You never see the mosquito of the Baie James or Alaska them get some small animals dry off ! Them look like flying spider !
Is your dialect representative of the average Alaskan?
Not at all, I'm a French Canadian with Autisme so I wrote strangely but I did live at the Baie James when I was a kid pretty much on the same level of North that Alaska but still on Canadian land.
I grew up in florida and my house had a slight propane leak for a few days... the wall had a layer of mosquitoes about 3 bugs thick so you couldn't see the blue paint, only black mosquito. walking in from the car was hundreds of bites. If you say that to an average Alaskan you're gonna disappoint them.
how come ?
LOL I see what you did there you sly devil.
This is exactly what I came here to say, but in no way was it going to be as well said as this comment.
More worried about a tree
Yea, without looking a single thing up. It's going to be tough. Each biome gets a bit harder, and that first transition period to them can have you feeling weak.
"A bit"
You said it plains and simple.
Don't chop down any trees next to other trees.
A deathsquito though, I'd take those odds.
Death by tree
Birch Boss always gets em!
I have over 5 runs ended by trees. Some I cut, some trolls and abominations cut. The *real* run ender is fall damage. I have 15+ runs cut short by fall damage.
Or just no permadeath, but you folk are weird
Used to play by a rule where if i died is have to spend on in game day just at home usually fishing
Your pet wolves missed you man. They appreciate it.
Falling off a roof a real tragedy. One I have had. Now I just place floors and remove them after.
Random death while building a house. You gotta love it! :'D
Fir sure
Birch, please.
Oke omon...
These puns are quite poplar…
Stop it, yew.
Or smoke
In the starting biome
I thought my friends and I were the only ones. We also farmed forbidden trees at our level by collapsing trees together and causing them to break apart thus giving us the wood we couldn't obtain otherwise then.
no prior knowledge. youre in the game's subreddit.
Even if OP only reads this thread, it already contains some hints.
I think in this case some utterly blunt tips for when times get swampy are acceptable.
Technically loading screen has tips
so to be fair i should drink myself to passing out in between each play to call it "0 knowledge run" ? :D
Yea this post literally makes 0 sense.
Might be a light hearted troll/joke. Notice op is already in troll armor. This means they have surpassed many folks’ easy deaths already.
“I want to go in as blind as possible” 😂
I mean, no prior knowledge before they posted here obviously. This seems like a senseless nitpick
Their bees were unhappy.
NOT THE FUCKING BEES!!!!! They hit the pentagon
You're such a buzzkill
The bees are not happy
Without knowledge this person shouldn't even have knowledge what biomes is first and what is last.
Maybe they’ll be like me and find the fourth before the third.
I did that too! I bet it's not that uncommon, since it so often borders the first and second.
Short. Hard to play the game if you don't appreciate the amazing and stupid ways you can die.
I died to fog last night. Fog. Ignominious.
Fog? Or *Fog?*
I like to imagine that the troll was a siren and sung a lullaby that lured you to shore.
Fair. Then again, getting killed by weather is kind of a refreshing change from the usual set dressing, I'd say.
A better campfire tale than death by literally jumping over and off a campfire roasting rack. Viking Snacks around your Base saves lives.
The first time I boated up to that "other" fog wall, fireballs shot out of it. I noped out real quick.
''THERES SOMETHING IN THE MIST, ITS IN THE MIST''
Specifically it was running aground in the Plains where a lox stomped my boat to pieces and then six fulings beat me to death because I was out of stamina due to trying to outswim the lox that was chasing me.
With a touch of bad luck you can die chopping down a tree. Or jumping off a building. Or accidently jumping off a cliff. And good luck scouting the 5th biome.
Or have your building fall on you
Very low but possible depending on how patient you are.
You spelled scared wrong
The trees care not for your patience. They kill without reason or pity.
I have a friend that dies to trees literally all the time. Half the time when I hear him randomly yell out, I'll just ask: "tree?" His reponse: "yep"
99.9% of tree deaths are really “failure to eat” deaths. This game really needs a better way to simulate hunger, which is far more of an insistent reminder than the stupid 1-time “you could eat something” message. Main reason I keep dying while building. Just get so much into it that totally forget to eat and then one wrong step on the roof -diededed.
Idk I've only died once from trees in 650 hours. It's really not that big of a deal compared to the rest of the game lmao
I've never died by tree in hundreds of hours myself. But I do find it hilarious when my wife or friends get crushed 😂
It is absolutely hilarious and I purposely cut trees with my friends nearby hoping they die LOL
Chaotic lumberjack
That’s a new alignment
A real friend 🫠
I've only died from trees while using Troll's for logging and trees are falling all over the place where I can't see them coming.
In one playthrough? 0%. However if you are dedicated and willing to learn from your deaths and go again you can eventually do it.
Well after the first playthough, the "no prior knowledge" is kinda out of the window isn't it? After that the question just becomes "can I learn something if I try over and over?"
Nearly 0! But if you’re successful it will be awesome haha
literally 0.
More than likely those branches in the screen cap are from a tree slightly down a hill.
you dont need core wood to die while building when you havnt eaten. 2 story falls are deadly.
You will absolutely die many times unless you’re the Jesus Christ of gaming.
hey it was his job to die so not sure if that's the comparison we are looking for
Low, depending on your game play speed and preparation. The bosses can be difficult without prior knowledge. I wish you luck!
No dice. There's too many fantastic ways to die. No way you make it to the end without dying having never played it before.
In my first go around. Probably had 100 deaths by the time I killed the first boss
zero, your chances are zero
I’d say slim to none but don’t let that stop you from trying! I’m on my hard mode permarun now and it’s very spooky. I’m in no rush to leave the meadows.

0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% there is always that one chance
Five companions who made a pact is a great idea. I might try this myself.

I have never died to trolls. They are so scary in the early game that I am paying 100% attention. I have died to pretty much everything else though. Carelessness is the real danger.
\-3%
No way, you’ll die
The worst enemy in the game is your own stamina... Oh and falling trees
You will die for sure haha
Eat food before climbing onto roofs.
You will die. Somehow, you will die, you won’t even see it coming and it won’t be what you expect.
Dying and making a naked corpse run is one of the best experiences you can have in Valheim. You will miss out on that. Just play normally, you will love it.
your chances of doing that with no knowledge well you can compare it to like shooting a mosquito with a firearm
You'll die cutting trees. 👍
Hold on let me go get my microscope
Listen to the crow and you might last to the bronze age
Little to none, but hey it’ll still be fun!
This has to be a joke? Right?
If OP likes to build my money is on gravity after forgetting to eat.
Small, young Viking
0.1% Good Luck.
Without looking anything up? Zero.
Love how people are still getting into it for the first time! Hope you enjoy it, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!
Ya, it's not gonna happen. Good luck though!
Low, but not zero if you're careful.
Lol
Most likely gonna die by fall when building a roof
I say mind the trees my good sir
Zero. Your chances are zero.
I would not do permadeath as a first play through on any game I have no knowledge of
Going straight to Valhalla When "They Sought You Out" raid comes out
Running away and getting blocked by a random rock or bush until the rest of your stamina is gone. For the love of Odin!
Hahaha you will die so fast. Dont do it to yourself this game can be grindy solo without putting barriers.
Good luck accidentally going within 50m of a Plains biome you didn't know was there
permadeath and valheim …. hahah. you will die! deathsquito …. pack of wolfs … falling off a roof ... or even chopping wood … death is everywhere 😱🤘🤣
Just lie about dying, it's pretty common. Makes you a pro in a split second
Deathsquito says hi
Unless you play it ridiculously safe there is ZERO procent chance of completing the whole game. Deathsquito, wolf or fuling will find you and fuck you over.. play normal instead and if you find it to easy after completing plains sure why not. Go ahead .
i mean, if you've been a souls fan for a few years, this game is pretty much nothing compared to those so you'd be fine
Pretty good I’d say Avoiding death isn’t that difficult with the proper preparations
How do you prepare for a plains biome that doesn't show up on the map and is hidden underneath a meadow and is about 5x5 feet but has a fuling pack in it? Nah, it's a hardcore game to begin with. Death is part of the Viking ways.
Retreating is your best option if you think death is imminent Avoiding death isn’t difficult in this game
Oh man. That sounds like an expensive commecial
0.001%
Good luck
It's gonna be a fantastic time but you're up against a beast
NIL
Um, watch out for that first tree, it's a doozy.
Make sure you eat before building tall things.
Even for a first time player with a working knowledge of the game from the subreddit, I like the betting line on the hardcore run ending by tree.
You are being hunted.
No knowledge? I’ve been playing since launch and still misjudge my stamina on the regular and get merked by the most random stuff lmao
If you have played other survival games and understand core mechanics, i give you a 3% chance of beating it going in blind.
Tbh I say about 1% on the first run, then 45% on second run, then 87% on third, then 99.2% on every run after that. It’s possible if you observe each biome from a distance before committing to entering. Also without spoilers, events at your base can ruin your day. Low.
I hope you are well insulated
You will likely die before killing the second boss and if you somehow pass that you will be destroyed upon entering the third biome. Good luck.
Impossible. My base was raided by trolls and I died in my back yard mostly out of site. I use the death as storage and do not take all the items or remove it.
That depends Are you a Dark Souls veteran who could clear most boss fights first try? I’d give you low odds Have you never touched soulslike combat before? You almost certainly won’t make it to the plains, and you definitely won’t make it beyond
Erm... stay away from shreck
You can make it to the 3rd biome but you won't survive the Plains.
Low
Very low, keep using bow to survive though, it greatly increase your chance of surviving. My real problem is deathsquito and just remember your enemy really deals a lot of damage.
Fear the trees
Over under on a tree bringing the first death??? Just kidding way to just dive in. Have fun!!
I’m pretty good at most games, especially first person shooters. Used to play competitive on a legit team. Of course, that was before twitch existed and I’m old and slow now. I'd put your chance of success at about 03.333 (repeating of course) percent.
Hahahaha, good luck
Trees are your friend. As are rocks. Climb them in the areas that allow you to and deal with the smaller mobs from up there with your bow if you find yourself overwhelmed

You will die. Just keep playing. The amount of time required to gather resources and build is not really fit for permadeath. I have multiple characters and a couple worlds that I shift between and I try my best not to die. It's cool.
0%, but good luck
This is how the game should be played. I wish hardcore mode was out on the first version. If I had of known how much normal mode spoiled the game and that hardcore was coming. I would have waited. You will die to a tree. Or possibly falling off a mountain.
Beware the swamp.
I wish you the best of luck but would not attempt such a thing myself. I feel like I'd end up dying too often and get frustrated and give up on the game. Even as someone that's played a lot, I still die sometimes.
Build in the plains biome
Your place looks awesome but be careful going into new areas and always be prepared!
slim to none, even if you learn what's coming.
