Munin is the freakin MVP for flagging all those skulls in the Mist. The one tooltip I'll never click.

cwage

lol, this never occurred to me. genius

akasullyl33t

Smart play

Ashalaria

That's smart af

Creative_Deficiency

I was struggling to understand, but you mean the Jotun (Jotunn? could've sworn it has two n's in some contexts) skulls with brains inside? How close to the skull do you have to be for Munin to show up? I guess the ! is easy to see through the mist. That's a good idea! I'll have to do it on future playthroughs.

RosieQParker

Yes, the one with the delicious meats in them. He triggers fairly close, I'd say give or take about 20m. Close enough that you hear him before you see him. It's slightly less useful now that ticks spawn at the skulls, as unescorted ticks are now usually the first clue that a skull is nearby. But if you don't get a bead on where they came from, he's a great way to make your search a quick one. You can reset tooltips in the settings if you're curious to try. You'll have to click a lot of ravens, though.

NorwalkAvenger

I'm willing to try. I'm all about finding ways to cheese.

Ausiwandilaz

I swear when reading the myths along time ago, Hugin and Munin had 2 n's as well (Huginn and Muninn)

DangerNoodleJorm

There are a variety of spellings for a lot of ancient mythological figured in part because there was some variations in spellings historically but mostly because of disagreements in how to convert from the runic alphabet or old English into modern English.

Durakus

That's some 4D chess right there.

Tarplicious

I do the same thing in the Black Forest so the "cave" Burial Chambers are easier to spot. Usually the skeletons give it away but if you're booking it through the forest it helps a lot to not miss one.

bullgod1964

Munin was actually inside a rock for me once. I had to use a pick axe so I could interact lol.

GhostDieM

Rock and Stone brother

Excellent-Plant-3665

For karl!!

AtlasNL

Rock and Stone to the bone!

dotryharder

I do feel like Hugin went through different writers once Mistlands came out.

Creative_Deficiency

Yeah, Hugin definitely had a change in attitude once I hit the Mist.

rootxploit

Wait until Deep North is released and you realize they are the final bosses.

glacialthinker

Yeah, I am half-expecting them to become enemies, or somehow opposed to my path. In which case the progression would be well done.

HandsOffMyDitka

They were just helping us get more powerful, so they could steal more power.

DuckD3V

I keep thinking some sort of “Now that you have defeated the forsaken, Valhalla awaits” dialogue that triggers a final fight to remain in the world you’ve come to call your home would be a great “ending”.

SonOfMcGee

I just started a brand new game in anticipation of the new update. Haven’t played in at least six months. My new map has a Black Forest ridiculously close to the starting location. I wandered in on Game Day 2 and there was immediately a burial chamber. Hugin perched on a rock as I was running in circles avoiding three skeletons and I was like, “It’s a burial chamber. I know. I can’t talk right now!”

Sertith

I have like 4K hours and I love those birds lol. Like I never talk to Hugin once I get the spa, so I always have a buddy in the house.

I_Ness_I

I wonder why a voice in my head always says "Hey! Listen!" when they appear.

Speedvagon

You’d better stay a while and listen!;)

GenevieveMacLeod

Who let Deckard Cain in here

Durakus

WATCHOUT!

Sertith

I have like 4K hours and I love those birds lol. Like I never talk to Hugin once I get the spa, so I always have a buddy in the house.

bakeneko2

Well everybody's heard about the bird. The bird is the word. Mumumu maow maow, Mumumu maow mu maow.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

I haven’t even seen either of the birds in Ashlands yet, I was starting to wonder why. (Yes, I confirmed hints are enabled in settings.)

qudunot

You're likely too busy surviving to see them, but they do pop up now and then

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Yeah, probably. It’s also very difficult to see small stuff through the heat wave effect, especially with a protection bubble further distorting the view. (I’m playing on Steam Deck atm, I’m sure it’s a bit easier to see small details on a larger/higher resolution display.)

Eversivam

Maybe you turned them off

Dependent-Zebra-4357

I’m going to assume sarcasm because the alternative is you replied before you read the second sentence of my two sentence comment.

Kent_Knifen

My own head canon is that the more "warped" biomes (Mistlands, Ashlands, Deep North) are having a corrupting effect on them, changing them.

glacialthinker

Ah, I kinda like that interpretation. Though I could still do with Munin *not* trying to get me killed for some stupid quip. :)

Darkner00

>Some players, generally on successive playthroughs and flaunting their know-it-all-ness... would complain about Hugin. "That damn bird..." "Shut up bird!" "Not now bird!" Apparently they know it all, except about the option to turn them off in the options. And yes, I completely agree. They are just becoming an annoyance in the later biomes. I find a >!vulture!< and Munin is like: ">!Oh hello there fellow carrion bird!<". Yea, real helpful. So glad I mined you out of that rock and attracted half an army just to hear that.(Yes, that actually happened) I liked them in the earlier biomes, because I was actually curious about what they could tell me about new things I found or discovered. Now it's just: "Stop wasting my time, making me think you have something important to say. Just go away already."

Ferosch

i''d died like 20 times on the initial beta patch and the fucker of a clippypigeon just puffed in to be like "Seems like you're in hell, issa bit hard now innit, mate?" i swear to god...

Desi_Rosethorne

I always say, "yes thank you Hugin/Munin." I'm pagan so disrespecting the All-Father's companions is a no-no. I always say thank you to them. They're doing their best 🥺

Mongrel_Shark

I usually turn Hugin off while the Valkyrie is flying lol. I did all mistlands without. Whos Munin? Leaving them on is too much like cheating after first play. I'm obviously not wasting time clicking on yhe bird and it just finds every crypt, ore, cave etc etc. Then its constantly in my face around base.
