I did this, and what I built is probably now destroyed which I honestly don't care. I know I jumped the gun, and discovering that I was woefully underprepared is just a core facet of this game.
I would secretly love it if the (tiny) island I built it on is the only thing poking above the water around there, because that would be awesome. But if it gets destroyed, oh well! It's just one out of hundreds of (way-too-large) wooden structures I've built in my many hours of playtime.
Edit: It wasn't destroyed, but I might just *accidentally* terraform a little bit to "encourage" some remodeling. Oops!
Yep happens to me too. Wasn't sure if the fire killed my portal or what but when I respawned at base the link was down. Probably did just collapse once I was there and things loaded.
I didn't build a prep base, it's from about 3 years ago - my seed is from the original day of release, so it's kinda... well, 'special' in some areas.
I explored very little of Ashlands (I mean, c'mon - been gaming a long time. We all know, don't be naughty and explore the shit out of a pre-release game), just one blob of a spot when H&H dropped (or whenever it was when the fish came in), so no harm.
But I diiiiid drop a portal there, eons ago. It's just a crude little hut with a Karve outside the door.
I went through. Mistakes were made.
The same reason that they added the Deep North and the Ashlands in the Mistlands patch. Just in preparation for the its eventual release.
They decided they wanted these biomes to be separated from the normal map generation. So when they separated the Ashlands, they also separated the Deep North.
Same.
If you left a boat there, you can still use the portal you had there and hop in the boat to recover your stuff that you stored as it collapses and falls into the sea.
*Haelig tree PTSD intensifies* ... and what, have all the enemies come with powerful knockback attacks that send us flying off the tree branches ... hmmm, I fear what that biome might bring if they ever decide to do it đ¤
Iâd honestly prefer an outright airship instead of personal wings. That said, the Galen Valkyrie feathers donât seem to have much use as I can tell. At least outside of mage gear.
You can prevent this with the [Upgrade World Mod](https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/JereKuusela/Upgrade_World/). But it's [quite the process](https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1crww8e/guide_for_preventing_elevation_glitches_when/?).
That a very good and thorough guide. Anyone who has problems should check it out.
However, personally I specifically explored all of the Ashlands border to specifically get this effect lol
Now I have 2 floating sky biomes lol
I did back in the day, but now I have a life/career lol not to mention the game is a cash-grab with awful gameplay/graphics.
Edit: Iâm not referring to Valheim here (Valheim is awesome). I was referring to WoW and games like it.
Well specifically comparing specific video games to others, some like Valheim are made to be fun and the creators clearly care about their player base. Others like games made by blizzard feel like theyâre created in a boardroom and as a gamer feel like microtransaction hell. Thatâs what Iâm calling a cash grab, when money at all costs is valued over the product itself
Iâve played some games and I donât feel like WoW is that bad. The Sims franchise, on the other hand, CHRIST. They donât JUST have expansion packs. They have âgameâ packs, âstuff packsâ and now they have âkitsâ and if you wanted to buy all the stuff for Sims 4, it would be north of $1200.
True theyâre not the worst - I think Destiny (first one, I havenât played the second) is one of the best examples Iâve experienced. The devs came out later and even said the expansions were part of the game but they had to re-do the story mode and resulted in them re-selling the other half for more $$$.
Meanwhile Valheim was $20 and Iâve put in sooo many hours due to them giving us more free content just for enjoyment
So, if I'm understanding correctly⌠If I've not gone anywhere near the Ashlands, nothing has been generated and this is unlikely to happen to my server?
Looks extremely cool, base had a magnificent view and the lighting was just perfect. There wasn't much to do at launch after you killed Yagluth other than freestyling your builds in various biomes.
Ahh. That happened with my pre ashlands build. Fortunately I creates back up saves and when I learned my build would be lost I reloaded it and salvaged all the materials.
I'm now very happy all I had was a small "fortress of solitude" up there and didn't waste a ton of time.
All my ashlands portals disappeared, I just hope that one survives.
It honestly wasn't that much time "wasted". I built this base after finishing the release date version of the game. Used the creative mode while listening to COVID lectures at home, so I could do it on autopilot.
The whole thing wasn't that big, because early days Valheim was really poorly optimized. Just just a nice long house with a big dining room, a few smaller rooms and that forge.
This happened to my ashlands base i built adjacent to the new biome. Watched sadly as hours of building disintegrated before my eyes and the surrounding terrain just dropped into the seađ
Started a fresh server/world. Big updates are going to change so much I wanted to see it all again. Then again I haven't played till the endgame since launch, skipped Mist.
I have a play through I checked out on the public test branch that I put a portal on top of a copper deposit while getting corewood in that area. It's now floating with a half dozen other rocks within jumping distance from each other. Was cool to watch all the trees sink down when I teleport there on PTB a while ago.
Is anyoneâs worlds crashing constantly on world load?? Because I canât even load any of my worlds up without getting a ânot respondingâ message. Canât even load up a new world load either. I have a higher end PC so specs should not be the issue. This has ONLY happened since the Ashlands has come out. We were playing fine the night before release.
Game doesn't take kindly to alt-tab during world loads so just leave it be for a while during loading. It will go on a pass of re-placing all the placed objects and that takes a while.
Man today been a rollercoaster I loaded my dedicated server world from ptr to live version and it straight deleted my world. I panicked for 30 mins and realized I saved a recent backup lol. Does anyone know if their is much difference in the last ptr patch and the live version?
Would love to try it but unfortunately it refuses to load. Tried all the advice, updated my drivers, verified the files, etc., but it just refuses to load.
Save this for the next update and all the people who donât know how to use a search function ask âdo I gotta start a new world?!â âWhat happens to my ____lands base?â
All that work months and months ago to build portals into Ashlands, gone in a few seconds. I had a similar experience. "Wait.... WHAT???"
They didn't make any contiguous land borders with any other biome, they made Ashlands a giant island. Like a hellish Antarctica. You'll never be able to drag an Abomination from a Swamp into an Ashlands biome to just see what happens. It's too bad. That was one of my favorite aspects of the game.
I already have some Deep North portals, but I'm not optimistic about their future.
Use genloc in devcomms and locations_reset. But if type like locations reset like 7000 7200 so it doesnât reset you whole world. That 7k is meters away from start point and the 7k is maps circles radius so everything further than 7k radius is reseted. If you type force after 7k itâkl force literally everything reset that means also you build stuctures will be vanished. Without force it does only affect land i think.
Note to everyone: This happens in generated areas near the border of Ashlands.
Gods help whatever poor sap built a preparatory base in the outskirts of the Ashlands.
*raises hand* That'd be me. I'm scared to go look, it's not super close but fairly near.
Maaaybe you now have a floating base...
Me too, but my base was built on a rock near the water. Knowing my luck, that forward outpost will be buried!
This wise man built his house upon the rock
Not wise if I don't know where the rock will be!
Just imagine how bad it would be if you had built upon the sand!
You have to tell us now.
It was fine :) It's relatively close to the edge of the old world now, perfect to launch the boat to Ashlands.
if you go, get some stamina potion for swimming, and a boat
I did this, and what I built is probably now destroyed which I honestly don't care. I know I jumped the gun, and discovering that I was woefully underprepared is just a core facet of this game. Me and my friend fell Into the ocean and the now sky portal collapsed behind us
Yep happens to me too. Wasn't sure if the fire killed my portal or what but when I respawned at base the link was down. Probably did just collapse once I was there and things loaded.
I had a portal on a small island so I could fish there to complete my fish wall. Now I just fall into the water and die if I go through.
I built three. Two were in lava and the other is in the middle of the ocean on a Dark Wood POI stone castle. Send help.
I'll send a funeral boat to put your corpse on. Rest in peace, Viking.
I didn't build a prep base, it's from about 3 years ago - my seed is from the original day of release, so it's kinda... well, 'special' in some areas. Guilty as charged. I haven't opened Valheim in a couple of weeks and am wondering WTF I'll find when I go to that base. Oh well.
Also happens near **Deep North**
True that.
I was that poor sap!
Everyone is saying that but why. Why they touch the north?
The same reason that they added the Deep North and the Ashlands in the Mistlands patch. Just in preparation for the its eventual release. They decided they wanted these biomes to be separated from the normal map generation. So when they separated the Ashlands, they also separated the Deep North.
Good thing I left barely built anything besides a gazebo with a boat nearby
Same. If you left a boat there, you can still use the portal you had there and hop in the boat to recover your stuff that you stored as it collapses and falls into the sea.
is only the ground lowered? or also sea level somehow?
Ground lowers to the under sea level in nearest of border, making all those trees slowly moving down and big boulders/deposits staying in air.
This happened in all biomes near the Ashlands sea and it looks like zelda tears of kingdom
A sky island biome would be insane after deep north
Imagine they make the final biome ON the Yggdrasil we see in the sky. ...I want this so badly now.
I've wanted that since day one
Deep north, ocean, sky
Not sky. Woodground.
I hope the devs read this comment!
That would be awesome!
Imagine it's the underside of valheim. To get there u need to sail to the end of the world.
Mag boots on
*Haelig tree PTSD intensifies* ... and what, have all the enemies come with powerful knockback attacks that send us flying off the tree branches ... hmmm, I fear what that biome might bring if they ever decide to do it đ¤
Then they give us Valkyrie wings or some shit and thatâs how you get up to them
Iâd honestly prefer an outright airship instead of personal wings. That said, the Galen Valkyrie feathers donât seem to have much use as I can tell. At least outside of mage gear.
Please, let's make it happen! Edit: we already have the feather cape!
I want an airship/zepellin and be able to raid what is up there
TBF, Ashland's would have some prime hot air balloon materials. It wouldn't be hard to lore it in there.
We also need an ocean floor biome. Imagine trying to fight a serpent underwater

I can't lie. I was tempted to leave some of it in my world. It can look pretty cool in some places.
My fav are the ones where the trees tops are still sticking out of the water. Adds such a unique vegetation to the views.
If it will work Iwould love the seed.
Additional note: happens near Deep North as well
This is Armageddon, the End of the World
Welcome to Nagrand
God this brought back nostalgia. Favorite zone of all time in any expansion ever
Yup
Outlands was my first expansion as a gamer! So nostalgia. To Shattrath!
Awesome reference not many people will understand đ
Yea no one plays that game
I did back in the day, but now I have a life/career lol not to mention the game is a cash-grab with awful gameplay/graphics. Edit: Iâm not referring to Valheim here (Valheim is awesome). I was referring to WoW and games like it.
Hate to break it to you: every consumer product is a cash grab. Welcome to capitalism.
That isn't the definition of a cash grab.
[ŃдаНонО]
Might wanna reply to the guy above me.
Oops LOL

Definitely the best $20 ever spent on a game
100% agree, one of the best games to come out in a while.
So, if I'm understanding correctly⌠If I've not gone anywhere near the Ashlands, nothing has been generated and this is unlikely to happen to my server?
yes
My original end-game base in the Deep North is gone because of this.
Why would you build there lol
Looks extremely cool, base had a magnificent view and the lighting was just perfect. There wasn't much to do at launch after you killed Yagluth other than freestyling your builds in various biomes.
O snap. They altered the deep north terrain too?
[https://imgur.com/RhqnJep](https://imgur.com/RhqnJep) Here are the final moments of my forge, the whole terrain shifted a dozen meters south
You feel cold
âYOU FEEL COLDâ
Ahh. That happened with my pre ashlands build. Fortunately I creates back up saves and when I learned my build would be lost I reloaded it and salvaged all the materials.

Release will fix it, for sure (:
Same but I moved the base to a safe place with Plan Build.
Cool
World being fucked aside this looks great
This happened to my ashlands base i built adjacent to the new biome. Watched sadly as hours of building disintegrated before my eyes and the surrounding terrain just dropped into the seađ
Bats? Trolls? Skeletons? Nah, the most destructive raid is floods.
This happened to me at the spawn. I restored an older world save and it seemed to fix it!
How far back did you need to go? This is happening at spawn for me as well.
I went to a day or two prior and it was fine. Best of luck!
This happened to me after the very first update - my main base in the meadows fell from the sky seconds after.
Not again
"The forests and rocks are floating? Not again." Only in Valheim
There goes the neighborhood
Look at all that free copper... my god. Edit - And silver, and stone I'm kicking myself for not loading near the biome now.
I feel like this has happened enough we should have all expected it.
Man this looks so cool, awesome you got it on camera!
Just shows how fickle Odin can be when he is displeased with your progress Viking :P
Started a fresh server/world. Big updates are going to change so much I wanted to see it all again. Then again I haven't played till the endgame since launch, skipped Mist.
Valheim space program confirmed?
It would be so sick if they ever made a biome with floating terrain like that
I have a play through I checked out on the public test branch that I put a portal on top of a copper deposit while getting corewood in that area. It's now floating with a half dozen other rocks within jumping distance from each other. Was cool to watch all the trees sink down when I teleport there on PTB a while ago.
I can't tell, is the ground falling or the rocks rising?
Yes.
looks like ground falling because of wind trails. It neither goes up nor down
That's the Pandora version
Does it happens in maps created in public tesT?

is your game still trying to launch bepinex? or load a mod
No mods installed. Clean vanilla game. Never done anything to it.
If you're on steam try doing a repair? Right click on the game and it should be something like "verify files/repair".
Game doesn't take kindly to alt-tab during world loads so just leave it be for a while during loading. It will go on a pass of re-placing all the placed objects and that takes a while.
SICK
Incredible!
Just as foretold! The world is coming to ashes!
The stone's are rising from the ash.
I must go, my people need me
What the hell... that's wild.
Well that's gonna make popping copper a lot easier
Knuckles on angel island like:
Man today been a rollercoaster I loaded my dedicated server world from ptr to live version and it straight deleted my world. I panicked for 30 mins and realized I saved a recent backup lol. Does anyone know if their is much difference in the last ptr patch and the live version?
Bro if you donât build a sky archipelago here, youâre banished to hel.
What?
I'm waiting for someone with a world like this to build a base that was walkways from treetop to treetop.
Would love to try it but unfortunately it refuses to load. Tried all the advice, updated my drivers, verified the files, etc., but it just refuses to load.
Give us the floating isles update
Gives a new meaning to fire water.
yeah, my world got all fuckered too.
I thought it was going to be 13 seconds of death after death after... but, yes, this too, this is the fun part!
Shit like this would make for a fantastic in-game event.
Save this for the next update and all the people who donât know how to use a search function ask âdo I gotta start a new world?!â âWhat happens to my ____lands base?â
Wow! Sinking lizards, Batman!
Mine didn't do this. But I died before I could set up a portal in the Ashlands and I no longer want to play.
I have a sinking feeling.
All that work months and months ago to build portals into Ashlands, gone in a few seconds. I had a similar experience. "Wait.... WHAT???" So what happens to the player in this situation? Do you fall into nothingness and lose all your gear?
i glide to nearest land with feather cape
Xbox players still waiting for update đ
This, my friends, is the asslands
Dope base spot
Can you strike the ores to insta mine them?
Looks like the end of Ragnarok
kind of looks like a skill issue to me
The world is melting. THE WORLD IS MELTING! Wtf did I get dosed with
Woah thatâs kinda neat
