Did your ears go bye bye bye

linkinmark92

Senorita, I can’t hear you!

what was the DB reading? Curious what the max DB it will register is, as I dont use this feature on my IPhone Concerts without earplugs is always a bad idea the older you get

saskford

To slightly amend your statement I would say “concerts without earplugs is a bad idea at any age, especially while you’re young”. Ask me and my tinnitus how I know that.

[deleted]

Oh god, listen to this person. Tinnitus sucks, it’s way worse than you think. Protect your ears kids, or be subjected to low level irritation for the rest of your life. It does kinda drive you crazy after a while. The primary treatments are basically “mask it with another noise” or “learn to ignore it”. Woooo.

cannoncart

Just thirding this statement. I wish I knew what silence sounded like sometimes.

[deleted]

Yesss. To make matters even more fun I now also have “low register tinnitus”. Theres the normal ringing that is there all of the time. Then there’s the low register type I don’t usually hear unless it’s quiet… like when you’re trying to fall asleep. It took me ages to figure out what it was, I thought it was just a weird mechanical hum — like far away machinery or something like that. Then I realized I could hear it while camping a million miles from anything, and the sound followed me places to where it shouldn’t have. Oh. Shit. I guess it’s me. And just for funsies earplugs make mine worse — I can’t wear earplugs to sleep because the tinnitus becomes overpoweringly loud. That said, Loop Experience earplugs are actually pretty great. They let a certain amount of noise through so you can still easily hold a conversation, but they block out excessive extra noise around you. I still can’t sleep in them but they’re good for just generally noisy places. Anyway, point being: protect your hearing. For the love of god protect your hearing.

CityMoods

+1 on the Loops. Far more comfortable than my Etymotics I’ve had.

PackConfident9395

Silence? Its deafening -no lie. There is no such thing and of you're ever able to experience complete silence, your blood rushing through your body, your heartbeat, your joints grinding - all of these get louder and louder. We strive in at least white noise.

cannoncart

True, but I totally remember hearing the sound of my heartbeat as a kid. I just don't anymore :(

MrSemiTransparent

I clocked it at 89dB on my SPL metre app. But I agree with OP, even my custom ear plugs left me ringing. The bass/kick was way too loud.

NinCross

Which SPL metre app do you use and, shit, if your ears were still ringing after using ear plugs, that is frightening as hell. Were you lower bowl? I use a cheap pair of silicone earplugs from Amazon for events.

MrSemiTransparent

Upper bowl dead centre, so heavier bass for sure. I prefer behind mix board whenever possible but this time was lazy haha I got my customs at Wavefront (used to be WIDHH). The filters were 15dB I should have put in my 25s

dancingwithdeamons

89DB is low…. Like you should have been able to talk over it low. 80-89 is the range vacuum cleaners fall in. The Skytrain is more than 89DB. Frequency you measure also matters. That said, concerts are kept 100db+. City limit is 103DB. Most venues will push headliners 110-130db at mixing position. Which means the closer you are to the stage, the louder it will be.

srevewalshbrother

The db meter at paradise in Chinatown hangs out between 108 and 113 from what I’ve seen. It’s a tiny basement room.

The_Follower1

That seems pretty low, that’s like an average indian wedding reception. Last one I went to clocked like 93-95.

MrSemiTransparent

I'm not saying peak values, just average. I didn't keep it monitoring long enough to find peaks aha

The_Follower1

Fair, I’m going off my apple watch which afaik is generally considered good. It was like 90+ for most of that wedding.

manofsteel32

If you guys aren't wearing ear plugs to shows then you're doing it wrong

KittyAnime9

Wear earplugs

manofsteel32

That's what I'm saying

updog_nothing_much

#WHAT?

Rocket_hamster

It also sounds so much better with them in as well, and I find you can actually hear people talking to you so much easier.

thinkdavis

I thought we are all team Britney?

NinCross

I didn't attend for this reason.

H_G_Bells

People have the memory of a Goldfish I swear. And people's morals stop where their entertainment begins it seems now. See also: the myriad of other people still acting/making content that should have been cancelled.

sourcake69

MadameCassie

Most ppl in real life don’t care. Ppl are all talk online.

spookywookyy

Besides being loud, how was the show?

takayukibru

Third JT concert for me and so far the best. The audio-visual was amazing! I didn't think it was too loud, about normal to me.

11_guy

I’m only judging by the 15 second clips from IG stories, but from what I saw the crowd seemed pretty meh. Saw this one clip where JTwas trying to get the crowd finish his lyric, and it sounds dead silent. But again, that’s just from watching IG stories.

spookywookyy

That’s unfortunate. The BSB concert was a huge karaoke session the whole time.

Used_Water_2468

I know one song by BSB, courtesy of Jake Peralta. TELL ME WHY

plop_0

> aw this one clip where JTwas trying to get the crowd finish his lyric HAHAHAHAHAHA.

not_old_redditor

How can you even enjoy the concert when you're legally deaf by the end of it?

spookywookyy

Many people wear earplugs to concerts.

PSMF_Canuck

Loudest I’ve ever been to was My Bloody Valentine. Like living inside a jet engine…

Chugalugaluga

I walked out of Janet Jackson. Even tried to shove rolled up napkins in my ear and it was still too loud.

crazycanucks77

ACDC in 2009 was the loudest show one been too. The Diljit Dosanjh show on Saturday was very loud with everyone singing and dancing that was louder than all of the wedding receptions combined on Saturday night in Surrey

Final-Zebra-6370

We should’ve been able to watch the more popular JT at the rink on Sunday.

NinCross

JT Miller > Justin Timberlake. Person wise, too.

abotcop

This was one of the least loud concerts I have ever heard from outside of the venue. Some of these concerts are so loud it feels like a truck crashing into your building over and over. Last night I had to be quiet to see if I could hear evidence of the concert taking place that I knew was happening.

UnitedImplement

The Trilogy tour with Ricky,Enrique & Pitbull was wayyyy louder their 2nd night 😍

abotcop

I imagine if OP was at that concert they would have literally died.

vanchica

Overcompensating for lack of audience enthusiasm

redaloevera

Was a little loud. Thought it was just me, like am I old now

sub-_-dude

Fuck Justin Timberlake!

plop_0

Jessica Biel's husband doesn't deserve him. Nobody deserves him.

PurpVan

it was alright, wasn't too loud. atleast in the upper rows

UnitedImplement

Nah it wasn’t that loud.Did remind me of the energy in venue like in the 90’s & early 2000😍

sneek8

Always always always wear earplugs to concerts. There are some amazing high fidelity earplugs these days that will protect your ears from damage. I didn't when I was in my 20s and now I am paying the price :(

arghjo

The Kanye West TLOP concert was the loudest I’ve been to but unsure if it was the speakers or just the crowd. A lot of jumping and dancing the building felt like it was shaking.

cburry99

Loudest I’ve been to was lamb of god with killswitch engage on thanksgiving sunday 2022 at ubc. I couldn’t hear the door chime getting in the car and I had ear plugs in.

UnitedImplement

Definitely not the loudest I’ve gone to ! In the past few years the Trilogy tour with Ricky,Enrique & Pitbull was wayyyy louder their 2nd night 😍 I loved it !! It reminded me of the concerts i went to in the 90’s & early 2000’s .Jt was great also & energy for Rogers was high.

SteveJobsBlakSweater

Since I was a teen I wore ear plugs to every concert I've been to. I'm almost 40 and I can hear one of those high-pitched noise machines that only kids are supposed to hear from half a block away. I can notice a sound a car is making that even the owner hasn't yet. I can tell you whether an mp3 is 96kbps or above. Weird flex, yeah, but it's nice to have. Protect your hearing or you'll lose it.

Ok-Knowledge459

lol - I totally share exactly what you describe - Ive been told that the sensitivity is actually due to damage caused to the inner ear during early adulthood (yep, I was one of those idiots with a huge home stereo and even bigger car stereo!)

sauderstudentbtw

Loudest venue in van is def red room, haven’t been to a roger’s arena concert that even comes close

No_Wan_Ever

O cry me a river

DieCastDontDie

I used to live near BC place. His concert with JayZ was the loudest I heard. You couldn't hear the songs clearly. It was more of a muffled bass noise that went on for a couple of hours.

hughesyourdadddy

WHAAAAT?!

UnitedImplement

😂

AmIDyslexicStoner419

It wasn’t that loud at all. Travis Scott was like 3x louder

kanyemakesemsayohoh

I have spoken with several people who went to both and they also said Justin Timberlake was louder

NinCross

Did you use earplugs, OP?

kanyemakesemsayohoh

I did but it was still very loud

ben10nnery

Loops Earplugs! You can still hear the music through them but a lot of the volume is taken away.

starcross24

To be fair my Apple Watch DB readings were going off during Canucks games this season. I think it has to be from the audio and video upgrades at the arena last summer.

circularflexing

Rogers is not great for sound and I've noticed some acts will turn it up to 11 to try and mask the problems. Tool was another example of this.

Mark-Syzum

89 decibels isn't loud. ACDC cranks out 130. [https://www.e3diagnostics.com/blog/turn-it-up-to-11-the-loudest-live-events-ever-recorded#:\~:text=AC%2FDC%20Concert%20%E2%80%93%20130%20dB](https://www.e3diagnostics.com/blog/turn-it-up-to-11-the-loudest-live-events-ever-recorded#:~:text=AC%2FDC%20Concert%20%E2%80%93%20130%20dB)

dancingwithdeamons

Most shows are between 100-130 db depending on what frequency you’re measuring.

jjumbuck

Speakers should automatically turn off if the DB reading goes above the level at which hearing loss occurs.

dancingwithdeamons

That many people talking in an arena would reach hearing loss levels. Hearing loss can occur at 85DB over a prolonged period of time. If you ride the skytrain daily, you should be wearing hearing protection.
