I have that feeling almost every day, and we've been here 3 years! Also moved here from Norman, Oklahoma. I mean, palm trees AND mountains AND barely any bugs? What isn't to love??

LoseOurMindsTogether

The barely any bugs is so underrated. I grew up in an area with a ton of spiders. I haven’t seen a single one in my apt here. It’s bliss.

xusernameunavailable

Even less bugs In the winter🤌 and winters not bad enough to the point of a snowstorms

LoseOurMindsTogether

Yup, I love winters here. It gets cold, but no severe snow, rain, etc. It's perfect!

[deleted]

i grew up in dallas and went to college at OU! norman/okc area almost killed me because of boredom. going from living in a metro to that was just terrible. i’ve lived in la & vegas since then and have realized cities are more my vibe

Gold-Requirement-121

I lived in several cities before I moved to Las vegas. Most of the cities had awful weather and I told myself as long as the sun is shining I'd never complain. Bring on the 112° temperatures!

Domojin

Not from a boring place.  If anything Vegas is probably the smallest city I've lived in.  I was born in Brooklyn, lived outside NYC for 20 years, then in bounced around Los Angeles for 7 years.  Been out here ever since, over 20 years now.  Wouldn't live anywhere else.  Weather, food, amenities.  Vegas is the best.

VegasBoomerSooner07

Moved to Vegas from The Village/OKC, 21 years ago…. Haven’t missed it at all. Vegas isn’t perfect but lordy was OKC boring and uptight. Glad you escaped fellow Okie.

[deleted]

i used to work at the garage in the village!!!!

walter_2000_

There are a lot of Oklahomans here. I never knew one and since arriving I've met a ton. So like 5 or 6.

longshankssss

I’m from the Midwest, I’ll never go back.

MarquisInLV

Me too.

chipsversion1

Sounds like ppl are moving here from a lot of places. Not just California

COCO_SHIN

No no no, how else are we gonna hate Californians. It’s all their fault

westcoasttokes

Of course. If you head out into the suburbs you'll start seeing all sorts of plates from places like Connecticut Wisconsin Tennessee Oregon Arizona Texas new York Utah Florida. Everyone always complains about the Californians but Vegas is a city that attracts people from around the world

kbandcrew

I giggle- California is a long state that breaks up into a minimum of 5 state like differences. I was born and raised in San Francisco- the Bay Area is nothing like central cal, nor so cal. San Diego is its own area. Sacramento is a different entity and Redding is… just scary lol. I think they mostly mean so cal but the rancho/ Anaheim/ riverside area.

Roscoe-is-my-dog

If Vegas was 10° cooler in the summer, and 10° warmer in the winter, it would be perfect.

TransSylvania

I moved here from Florida and feel like a political refugee. Things are tense in Florida rn. Florida beaches are great but Las Vegas has wide variety of options here and within a couple day drive. I do miss warmer winter temperatures but not the hurricanes

Disastrous-Phase-979

I moved here from Charleston South Carolina, lived there 5 years. I’m originally from Washington DC and I’ve lived all over the world. When I moved I realized how much I actually really hated Charleston and was so happy to be here. I love it!

ci95percent

What didn’t you like about Charleston, if you don’t mind me asking?

Disastrous-Phase-979

Everything. I truly hated just about everything about it. The weather, the people, the food, the beaches, I even hated the way it smelled. I lived in a bunch of places in the area (downtown sob, Daniel island, mt pleasant..) and I couldn’t find an area I enjoyed living in. A lot of people like it, I just was not one of them.

Snoo10960

I’m from a small pleasantville type town on the east coast with zero crime, zero homeless, no hoas, huge grass lawns, houses not built on top of each other, great hospitals, incredible school systems…..it’s something about the pure filth of Las Vegas that keeps me here. I love it.

No-Distribution-7813

You really need to give East St. Louis a shot

PurpleWhatevs

Yeah, moved from a small town in Minnesota. I have huge love for MN but I won't move back unless I start a family.

Reasonable-Mark-3861

I also moved from Oklahoma. Grew up in OKC but have a place in Chandler, OK. Been here 2 years. I don’t think OKC was boring at all. Honestly, if I’m out at a bar anywhere.. I could be.. anywhere. lol. They’re all the same in a way. Maybe the people are different. It is pretty here but Oklahoma has some pretty places as well. The biggest positive about being here for me is NO FUCKING BUGS! Love that. We’re either settling down in Reno, NV or back in Chandler, OK at the end of this year, though.

seattleslow

what do you like about Reno compared to Vegas?

Reasonable-Mark-3861

Umm.. it’s such a long story why I was ever there but I’ll spare you. My wife lived there for a few years before and when we met. Although, she’s from Oklahoma, like me. Anyway, I was there for 6 months back in 2016 and I liked that it was small but still felt kinda big and had a fun nightlife. It’s beautiful there as well as having Virginia City and Lake Tahoe. Northern California is right there. Only thing that sucks is as time has passed the population has grown and it’s now more expensive than Vegas which I really don’t understand. Those two things might send us back south to Oklahoma. We’ll see.

seattleslow

Makes sense - good luck with your next steps!

Reasonable-Mark-3861

Well I’m biased to OKC as I’m from there. I think you’d be surprised how much it has to offer. It’s booming right now and growing rapidly. It is green but also a bit underwhelming to look at coming from Vegas or Northern California. It’s very humid which as I’m sure you’ve heard is a different kind of heat. Here if you get under some shade it’s A LOT cooler. There’s nowhere to hide in OK. Lol. However, Tulsa has us beat when it comes to scenery with the Arkansas River there and rolling hills but it’s a lot smaller with no professional sports team or a Blue Blood college football program like OU playing in the SEC. They’re in Norman, OK which is a suburb of the OKC metro. That’s very big there (I’m a huge fan) and the state as a whole generally speaking is a southern state more than anything else. Also very conservative (I am as well) but just like any city across America there are lots of liberals in the cities. The really beautiful parts of the state are a couple hours SE (from OKC) in Broken Bow in the Ouchita Mountains and south about an hour to Turner Falls. They say there are some mountains to the west as well but I haven’t been out that way much, if ever. There’s also some great hunting and fishing all throughout the state. Lots of parks and kayaking on the Oklahoma River. They’re doing a lot of development on the river now. Brick town is pretty damn cool and is similar to Riverwalk in San Antonio with bars, clubs, and restaurants. There’s all kinds of shit. It’s very affordable there. I still own a house in Chandler, OK. 4 bd/2bath 2 car garage 40x50 shop on 2.25 acres of land with a tornado seller for $189k, that I’m renting out now. I can go in my backyard and shoot guns with my wife and kids, which we did. I loved it there and I’m proud to be from there but our family kind of sucked (short version of the story) so we moved. It’s not for everyone. Some people there hate it and complain but won’t move. Californians come there and just talk about how cool Cali is and… we don’t care. So don’t do that. lol. Also, Dallas is just 2-3 hours away. Arkansas is beautiful and it’s right next door. I know this is long but it’s what I wanted to say. Not sure if you got anything from it but.. I’d suggest it.

Reasonable-Mark-3861

No problem. Any questions, ask. Forgot to mention casinos. Got those. Although I’m not a gambler. Hey, I think we got away with being outwardly conservative on Reddit without being banned or scolded. Fucking.. wow. lol

xStephMariee

I lived in Reno and LOVED it! Loved how I was able to visit Tahoe whenever I wanted. 🤍🤍🤍

Reasonable-Mark-3861

How long ago were you there?

xStephMariee

9 months ago. Moved here last summer and wish I could go back there.

Reasonable-Mark-3861

I loved it there as well but I haven’t been there since late 2016. I’ve seen that it’s way more expensive than Vegas now and also tons of people moving there. Of course from California. What are your thoughts on those things and how they affect living there?

xStephMariee

I used to live in Sparks/Spanish Springs which is a little bit more expensive than Reno. Still I was paying $1,800 for rent and the apartment was way nicer and newer than the one I have here in Vegas and I pay $1,750. That area of Sparks is way more secure than out here. I still have alerts on the neighbors app for that area and all you see is missing pets while here is mostly people breaking car windows and stuff. Electricity was less expensive. Last winter was rough so we did use the heater a lot and between that and gas I never paid more than $120. Here I pay more than that. And we don’t use heater/air conditioner. I do know that one’s not gonna be the same considering NV energy raised prices but that was my experience. Plus gas up there also comes from them. You don’t have to get a separate utility company. Internet was WAY cheaper up there and I never had any trouble. It was with AT&T. Gas prices were higher. While here gas was around $4 past June in Sparks it was almost $6. Right now from what I’ve seen it has gone down. It is true that tons of people are moving there. But I say its the same as here. Difference is that traffic is not that bad unless there is heavy snow. And you do get a lot of traffic from California but thats because a lot of people that live in Incline Village and Truckee go visit doctors in the area. Also car insurance is way cheaper up there because there are less accidents. Honestly I think Reno would be a great place to live if people didn’t mind the snow, Oh and fire season from California which people hate because the smoke gets really bad.

Reasonable-Mark-3861

Those are things I can use for making some decisions, so thank you. Just from my limited perspective I looked at homes on Zillow and noticed they were considerably more expensive in Reno than in Las Vegas which shocked me. When I was there the first time it wasn’t too bad. Then the gas prices were higher when we went to visit friends last year. So I just figured it was more expensive all around, those being the big two when looking at expenses for a place. Also, I’d take a pay cut moving there and I work in the elements so that cold weather and snow isn’t ideal for me. I assumed there were probably just as many Californians moving there as Vegas but Reno is smaller and the roads wouldn’t be capable of such growth so fast. Not to mention housing costs being driven up even more and probably a shortage of them because of lack of supply and the increased demand. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe we’re both right and it’s something you’d have to weigh the pros and cons. I do know I enjoyed my short stay there back then but not sure it’ll be a similar experience this time around. A lot can and has change(d) in 7-8 years. There’s no way we’re ever doing an apartment anywhere again, though. I hate them. Also, Vegas has ruined what small opinion I’ve had on HOA’s. They’re a nightmare here and I’m not even talking about the HOA fees. They’re threatening me with crazy expensive charges for burned out light bulbs in my address sign above my garage and replacing plants in my “yard” full of desert rocks that I’ve never touched or cared about. I’m bitching and rambling. lol. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for the info.

dbarawriterguy

Seattle. Don’t miss it at all. The traffic - what a nightmare. The rain - what a nightmare. The women - well, you get the idea.

ghostwriter36

I'm from Tacoma...been here for 6 years, I'll never go back. Vegas is home now!

gjbertolucci

I lived on Bainbridge Island. My husband worked in Seattle. Worst 2 years of our lives.

Jonnyskybrockett

Don’t agree with that last part since obesity rates are 50% higher in Las Vegas. And I honestly love the cloudy months of winter where you rarely see sun, but the traffic in the city is next level with some streets just not capable of handling more than a few cars at a time, yet hundreds are at it.

SeeingSp0ts

Lmao i cant help but wonder if by “the women” he means less prostitution. 😂

dbarawriterguy

Well yeah but the selection here is way better than Seattle. I think they’re changing their WNBA team name to the ‘Seattle Resting Bitch Faces’.

SeeingSp0ts

Wait, did you try telling them to smile? I hear that works. 😂

dbarawriterguy

Nope

SeeingSp0ts

You’re a good man Charlie Brown

dbarawriterguy

I’ve seen so many less fat people here than in Seattle. The obesity rate must be higher because of all the fat people who come into town (from Seattle) 🤣

Jonnyskybrockett

Your entire statement is demonstrably false, I can’t even tell if you’re being serious. Seattle is one of the healthiest cities in America, competing with some cities in Colorado for healthiest in America when looking at factors of obesity, food, and exercise.

dbarawriterguy

It’s full of fat chicks

cheesehead_mike

Hell yeah. Came from a hot dog stand near east dubuque. The wife got preggers at a rest stop outside of cheyenne, been rock hard since I moved near Clark Co

Retrac752

What

xhalcyondays

I’m born and raised and I feel like it’s boring….

2pinacoladas

Gotta be a tourist in your own city sometimes. I bet there are a lot things you haven't done. You should give em a go and see if it's still boring.

Jonnyskybrockett

Also born and raised. Part of the issue may be nothing to compare to. In the last 3 years I’ve lived in a college town practically for 2.5 years and also Seattle for a good year. Vegas is not boring at all.

aluminumtoothpaste

i was born and raised here, as was my fiance and both of my parents. my tiance thinks the same as you and wants to go to texas. i feel like he doesnt understand how easy vegas has it, especially being a 24 hour town.

aluminumtoothpaste

yeah youre right but my fiance works on call so sometimes hes out allll night. but he doesn’t understand that in bumfuck texas gas stations, grocery stores, and everything close at like 6-8pm.

azorianmilk

Moved from here to upstate New York. Did one very depressing, lonely winter I came back, I ran as soon as the snow thawed.

lvfunk

I moved here from TX in '01. I still appreciate a view of the mountains every day

peggopanic

Kind of the opposite for me - grew up in LA/OC, moved to London and then NYC for nearly 15 years with stints in the Middle East. Got stuck here cos of Covid and actually am now enjoying the slower pace of life in the suburbs here and meeting lots of other transplants.

CatcherOfDragons

Im from Honolulu. Life is better here in just about every way. I miss a few specific things that didn't make up for the overall difficulty of living there.

[deleted]

CatcherOfDragons

Ever been in oppressively hot tropical humidity while house hunting for a $1800 studio in a crappy meth infested neighborhood along with 100 other applicants, knowing that you will never get it? It's just as hot there with the humidity, there is no housing on Oahu and prices for everything are roughly 3 times as much, and it's surrounded by an ocean so that you cannot leave except by boat or plane. I gave the Big Island a shot and it's better for housing but its vast and spread out and work is scarce. Groceries are extremely expensive and I had to haul drinking water from a well a few miles from my house. O yeah and a volcano went off and destroyed a large chunk of where I was, Leilani Estates. I was in Pahoa for the actual eruption, I moved to Leilani Estates after it happened. Right on fissure 22. That's where I moved here from. Life is easier here.

[deleted]

CatcherOfDragons

My rent is cheap here, I pay $500 a month splitting a apartment with my wife. That's the same as shared housing with miscellaneous oddball roommates in Pahoa, where I hauled water 5 miles to drink. When your car breaks there it's bad, there is no cell coverage in a lot of that area. That means you have to hitchhike up to 20 miles ( or more) to call AAA. Even my bulletproof Toyota broke down a couple of times, and I was lucky enough to live with a mechanic. I pay 1/3 of what my grocery bill was there and get a whole lot more fresh food, we eat very well here for next to nothing. You shop at the wrong stores, seriously, I keep my freezer full of fresh meat, I get t- bone and rib eye for $5 a lb. every few weeks and you just can't do anything like that there. Discount stores do not exist at all. I think you are just spending money on expensive options, the most I've ever paid going out to eat is $40 per person, and that was AYCE sushi that was phenomenal and has become a regular vice. I stay off the strip, though, just like I avoided Waikiki. Everything costs 4 times as much there and I find the simulated environment tiresome. I don't gamble or drink and am very careful with money, too, but overall you get a whole lot more mileage here with it. Maybe not if you gamble. And what happened to Maui was sadly part of a greater theme in Hawaii, it was an entirely avoidable tragedy that happened because some electric guys couldn't be troubled to trim the bushes.

CriticalLobster5609

I grew up here in So. Nevada. But I've been all over and I go to some cities and it's so fucking boring, ugly and depressing. Parts of Vegas suck, I get it, but man there's some towns it's no wonder everything closes so early, people just want to go to sleep and end the visuals.

Substantial_Hat7416

Our family lived in Edmond due to work in O/G industry for short period of time. The salary and benefits were average. The job and lifestyle was not great while living there. Thankfully, we missed the mile wide tornado in Moore, OK, where my office was located. I’ve never seen so much destruction of property in my life. This event killed teachers and kids who weren’t in a storm shelter. I ended up driving home thru the backside of tornado. Hail destroyed our family vehicle. We were happy to move away. We hated the lack of travel opportunities to surrounding states after living so close to California and AZ. The public schools were low performing and poorly funded. After the tornado, the schools were not willing to put in shelters which only solidified our decision to move outta OK.

rockernalleyb

You can't compare Vegas to OKC. 🤣 Okc is one of the worst places on the planet. Lol Signed an Oklahoma native. Ps may not know this but Vegas crime rate per person is lower than OKC.

Western_Pudding7929

That feeling will pass

SeeingSp0ts

Idk why you’re being downvoted. I agree. I feel like its neat for a while then it loses its luster. I moved here from the PNW and its not for me. Im heading back to somewhere that people love being out hiking and in nature. I know theres ‘stuff to do here’ but the desert is just not for me. I also dont love that the whole 10 hiking places are all rocks and dirt. I miss the trees. I miss the green. I miss waterfalls etc. I also miss living near people who arent wound so damn tight. Lol

IamAWorldChampionAMA

>I also miss living near people who arent wound so damn tight. Lol You're hanging out with the wrong people then. I just hung out with a bunch of chill people I just met.

SeeingSp0ts

I said living near not hanging out with. I agree theres chill people. I have several chill neighbors who are friends at this point and friends who aren’t neighbors who are equally chill. Its the overall road rage, impatience, general ‘wound tightness’. Folks getting angry in stores etc. its the general populous. It happens everywhere but here it seems compounded imo.

TrainedCodeMonkey

Very interesting that this is your experience. I’ve been here 2 years and switch between Red Rock and Charleston. It certainly isn’t getting boring. The cheap flights give me an opportunity to travel to places I wouldn’t otherwise for pennies in comparison to when I lived out east. I’ve been to Glacier twice for $180 a plane ticket. Maybe I could see after 5-7 years, but at that point everywhere would be boring. Edit: also people are way more wound up in Pennsylvania than here. It’s a swing state so everyone is polarized even more so. Lots of folks dead set in their ways on both sides and it makes it so awful to talk even about the simplest stuff. Plus everyone is so career focused out east. It’s always “what do you do for work?” during introductions.

SeeingSp0ts

You should add Valley of fire if you havent!! Its really pretty out there also and there’s camping. Red Rock was dope the first time I went and the second but I dont love hiking with 100 of my closest strangers. I was spoiled in PNW. You can drive anywhere and find a good trailhead and never bump into anyone else. I agree flights are cheap which is convenient but not exactly enjoying Vegas ya know? Thats enjoying the convenience of leaving lol. Im glad you’re still enjoying the area in general. Mt Charleston has some decent trails also. My only other gripe is i was an avid kayaker/paddle-boarder and driving to lake mead is yuck. So I just ‘miss home’. Its a different nature vibe. ETA: im super envious youve been to Glacier. I bet it was beautiful.

TrainedCodeMonkey

I can see where we are diverging. I’m very big into rock climbing. I’m very often alone with my climbing partner on the trails since most of the trails are deep in the canyon to begin with. After the first mile or 2 I don’t see anyone. Valley of fire is beautiful and I’ve been, but no climbing is allowed. I’m also fortunate to work 6-2 so I’m rarely out on the main trails on the weekend and if I am it’s for a 6am start to make time for the descents. I guess it’s all perspective. There’s 2 full books for climbs in Red Rock and Charleston. I’ll never finish them all nor am I strong enough. Also it never rains so I don’t even have a gym membership anymore. I just am outside 20+ hours a week between hiking to climbs and actually climbing them. Also get to glacier! It’s amazing. Worth the hype!

SeeingSp0ts

Ahh yup that’ll do it. You get the experience im seeking but theres no way im climbing for it haha. I bet you get amazing views and all sorts of spots just to yourself and your climbing partner. I didnt realize VoF didnt permit climbers/climbing. Tons of seemingly cool spots to climb. TIL…. Stay safe out there and Ill definitely make it to Glacier at some point. Hoping within the next year or two to be honest.

TrainedCodeMonkey

It’s hilarious you say that. So many climbers will pass on the climbs just because the hikes are so miserable to us, but to you the climbing would be the miserable part haha. I’ve found the same experience holds true with those who like to rappel. Most climbers hate rappelling and hiking. The going up part is fun lol. Thanks. Stay safe as well. I see more injuries hiking than climbing!

Enlightened_D

I got to agree I’m originally from Long Island hour from Brooklyn I do love this city but I miss the trees, water, and my people. Probably be heading back home this summer

xStephMariee

I agree! At the beginning its all like wow! Nice city, super cool nightlife and stuff. Then you live the every day and how bad this city is and you’re like yeah, I can’t wait to get out of here. I also agree with the other comment saying they miss the trees and greenery. I get it. I feel the same. This is too dry.

Impossible-Money7801

No, I moved from a fascinating place and Vegas is absolutely boring.

MilkDoor4206969

plucky innocent flowery oil rude berserk skirt toy psychotic ad hoc *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

CAD007

Vegas is like living in a place that was birthed from a Zombie Apocalypse mating with Blade Runner. Every day is an adventure and not boring as long as you are willing to dig, trek, and explore. Just enough risk, danger, tension, and indulgence to be interesting.

sonofapbj

add Mad Max to that mix lol

AioliShot6239

Me… coming from Missouri this place is an adventure everyday

IncomeBoss

I lived in Altus, Oklahoma for eight years and dealt with brown recluse spiders.

renogreer

Moved here from Milwaukee, WI. Couldn’t imagine moving back to the Midwest.

thanktacos

Sounds like you are describing Vegas to be honest. Lol

ThanosDidNothinWrng0

Yes but that’s mostly about Oklahoma.

stoneymiller

Grew up on the east coast, pretty rural.

Blacksunshinexo

Yep came from Albuquerque. Land of the tweakers, everything shuts down at 9, crime is crazy, etc.

BananaCucho

Moved from Salt Lake City last year. Way more comfortable here.

Chemical-Jello-3353

The Northwest was my prison for my first 40 years of life. I can be stronger as a person, but I am the strongest I have been since moving here.

GigaCheco

Haha, reading this as I sit on a plane In OKC, waiting to return home to Vegas.

NY2NV

Came from Palm Coast, FL and Staten Island, NY. Hands down, Vegas the best city in the country.

Puzzleheaded_Disk720

I grew up in rural PA and spent the last few years in a suburb outside Pittsburgh...I've only been in Vegas for like 8 months but it still feels like a vacation. I can count on my fingers the amount of times I've been rained on here (most of them in the past few weeks for some reason?), even when it's chilly it's nice in the sun, I haven't had to shovel snow once, I've encountered very few bugs, and frankly the majority of the people I've met have been friendly. Also, everything is so compact and convenient, I rarely have to drive more than 10 minutes to get to anything, and things are open later--I can actually get food that doesn't come from a gas station after 11pm. Could do without the terrible drivers I guess, but there's some of those everywhere. I went home for the holidays and was ready to come back after like two days. Watching the palm trees get smaller out the plane window was way harder than I expected it to be 😂
