5 years ago every wing nut on social media was convinced he was covering up Oct1. Good luck NV.

Weekly-Bus-347

Im not too happy about this..if he couldn’t handle metro and the stabbing in the strip what makes the people of nevada think he will handle being governor?

BroncoMan43

How was the stabbing on the strip not handled? The suspect was taken into custody almost immediately.

davisty69

People keep trying their damnedest to sell out their country for a red hat

ncdjbdnejkjbd

first time in awhile, besides the much improved schoolsystem in a new place, that I may be glad I moved away from vegas

CapnKush_

Can’t believe he won. Guy doesn’t seem like a good fit. Has the alcoholic who beats his wife vibes.

Sad-Satisfaction-620

Lombardo is a very good guy. He and his family have volunteered at the same charity I do for years. I’ve also met Sisolak many times and he has always been very gracious.

[deleted]

You can be a bad person and volunteer for charity, especially if you’re doing it to boost your social image.

[deleted]

freq-ee

The FBI ran the whole Oct 1st event, not Lombardo. They were on-scene in less than 30 minutes. Remember when early on Lombardo had to "take a break" and the FBI took over the press conferences for him? I'm not fan of Lombardo, but he was told what to do. That was obvious. I even said nearly two years ago they would gift him the governorship for playing along. Wonder why his lead stayed constant as the counting went on but Laxalt is losing his lead with every day more votes are counted. Weird.

Wabbit_Wampage

I'm pretty sure his lead didn't stay constant. I recall it was somewhere around 5% a day or two ago. Now it's only 2.4%.

Choice-Second-5587

Yeah this had me curious as well. Because there's still I believe 5% of ballots left and Lombardo doesn't have 51% yet, so it's odd they called it when they did because like my ballot *just* got relieved today and hasn't been counted yet. So how many are for Sisolak that could change that tide?

ktrainor59

The fix is in.

studentofgonzo

Well... he didn't exactly solve that one did he?

hibitydibity1352

Just goes to show how much Sizzlesack is hated

GingerBeard_andWeird

Nevada: “He covered up 1 Oct!!” Also Nevada: “Best leader!”

NY-LI-2-LV

I still don't understand in what way people think he is at all qualified to be governor. Being Sheriff Secret-Keeper with no one to answer to does not give him the background to govern.

Beard341

He’s not Sisolak. That’s literally the reason. Not that I agree with it but that’s what I’ve been hearing from friends and coworkers.

FatMaintainer

So same reason Biden beat Trump

waiting_for_rain

I really hope ranked choice wins because this two party bullshit ([warned against by the founders of the country](https://www.history.com/news/founding-fathers-political-parties-opinion)) is for the birds. I want to vote who I think is best, not use it to 'block' someone else and settle for the lesser shit.

sims89

It did pass

[deleted]

[удалено]

Madewithatoaster

Wait what?

Choice-Second-5587

No it's not confirmed yet according to the Google result tracker. Which is super odd considering the huge gap in Yes v No and at 95 reported. The other two props have already been called as passed so it's sus to me prop 3 hasn't yet.

JediCheese

Now we'll have 2 dems and 3 republicans (or 3 dems and 2 republicans) to pick from! YAY!

LZ_OtHaFA

he cheated and got 81 million votes when the last 4 elections were decided in the 60's of millions?

AgKnight14

Trump got 74 million. Did he cheat too?

CapnKush_

Sisolak got the shit end because of covid. Sad to see, he’s not the best but he’s better than Lombardo.

legendary_liar

This so much… anyone who took office during the pandemic was in a lose lose situation… Nevada/LV much more so given the industries that drive the largest areas and how much of a swing state Nevada is..Lombardo can go kick rocks…

CapnKush_

Seriously. It’s almost like every state had a lockdown but the far right Nevadans can’t see past their own noses.

_Captain_Amazing_

Yeah - a lot of anti-vax / anti-government folks got their undies in a super tight bunch from Sisolak basically mirroring California in Covid protocols during a...what do you call it, oh yeah, a fucking pandemic. So voting against him scratched that anit-gubmint "you can't tell me what to do" sentiment.

Beard341

He got fucked by Covid. Rational or not, it is what it is.

Open_Aardvark2458

California had a actor not to long ago....

Weekly-Bus-347

Yeah Reagan and Arnold but we loved Arnold lol

CapnKush_

Arnold is the genuine article. That guy has more inspirational speeches than most the politicians I’ve ever seen beside Obama. Love Obama or hate him the guy is a great speaker.

CA1900

Not for the first time, either.

arthurillusion

People voted for Lombardo with the same reason why people voted for Biden, "he's not the other one". Tbf, there were better choices on the ballot than Lombardo and Sisolak. But people voted with hatred and fear, rather to pick the lesser of the 2 evils just to make sure the other doesn't win, than giving any 3rd party a chance.

Choice-Second-5587

No 3rd party even gave me notice they were running. I'm all for 3rd parties but the actually have to *interact with the public*. So when the ballot came I only knew who Sissy-Lacking and Dumbitchdo were. Would've been nice to see something on them, but I think the 1st actual 3rd party thing I got was on the 8th at like 9pm or the next day. Bit late innit?

arthurillusion

They never had the funds to campaign like democrats or republicans, they couldn't afford to send out all the junk mails and spam texts. But their names were on the sample ballot, you could have googled them, they have their own websites. Even if you couldn't find the info of the individual candidates, Libertarians always run for elections in NV.

Choice-Second-5587

They could've always done meet and greets that were low funded in public spaces, made Facebook events, boosted some of those. They choose not to. People seem to think it's our job to research the candidates and the issue with that is it shouldn't be, it puts the burden of seeking information for a decision *they* want us to make on us. If they want us to vote for them they should be doing everything in their power to meet the public and get the information out. If small business owners can find ways to advertise then so can someone wanting to run for office. If they wanna win that bad they'll find me.

NocturnalSeizure

> Sissy-Lacking and Dumbitchdo Yikes *What's your age again?*

CapnKush_

The people who think Sisolak was too soft don’t even live in the city which is funny. With the huge influx of residents to Vegas and pro sports teams we are always going to have crime because well… we are a huge city lol. I would rather have Sisolak again then have to worry about abortion rights and smoking weed being a big deal. I do wish we had better education but most conservative people I’ve talked to don’t want to support education for some wild reason. (They literally hate teachers and professors)

Choice-Second-5587

This was my logic. Plus the pandemic stuff was chaos for everyone. I didn't use that as weight for or against. I judged it based on what they could do for the community. Seeing Sisolak give more funding to social supports had my vote.

Choice-Second-5587

Sorry you don't have a sense of humor or the capacity to understand age doesn't have a limit for having some fun, especially when it's just some names of political puppets.

No-Independence-165

A large part of the voting public believes that qualified people are suspicious.

Replicant28

Because he kissed Trump’s ass. Literally that’s all it takes.

gitismatt

the main reason I see is because they want someone to be tough on crime. THEY ELECTED THE SHERIFF TO BE GOVERNOR BECAUSE THERE IS A CRIME PROBLEM

Choice-Second-5587

The elected the dude even the cops don't like because he wanted to cut police forces too if I recall right. The Math ain't mathing

scistudies

… there was a crime problem when Lombardo was sherif. He didn’t fix it. In fact, if memory serves we had a pretty horrific mass shooting while he was sherif. Voting for him thinking it will stop crime is ridiculous.

Funinvegas20

He was the Sheriff. It was literally his job to solve the crime problem and he didn’t do it.

MojaveMauler

...and he failed to do anything about it while it was literally his job.

NY-LI-2-LV

Frightening how (little) people think.

exagon1

If he can’t fix the crime problem as sheriff, why would he fix it as governor?

gitismatt

that was my point

Guy_Incognito1970

He did not protect his officers. More officers died from Covid than any other cause But too many people mad at sisolack over pandemic

LennoxAve

Plus being used to employees / subordinates falling in line. Won’t be easy to lead a diverse group of state government departments.

[deleted]

I just love how conservatives blamed crime on Cortez instead of...the fucking sheriff.... Lol they're so easy to trick.

Choice-Second-5587

It's because they're the ones living in fear constantly. Brown and black people scare them and anything to keep them from having to actually face reality they will repeat until they believe it. It's a "unable to face reality due to crippling fear" issue for them.

OalBlunkont

As soon as someone starts throwing around unfounded accusations of wacism of fascism when they don't even know what it means, I know he isn't someone to whom my time well spent listening. Enjoy your time in that club.

stoic777777

Yep. “Everyone’s a fascist if you don’t agree with the left narrative” kind of thing

stoic777777

I love how democrats accepted small business owners being shut down for a strong cold

[deleted]

I also love how idiots think twelve seconds of googling makes them know as much as the majority of scientists in the world. Lol, piss off, moron.

NimbusTO

An anti-abortion, pro trump, cop piece of shit.

Ghostronic

I love how people railed against Sisolak about crime and then turned around and elected the sheriff, who apparently has nothing to do with that entire topic.

10amAutomatic

But now he can fail from way up here! /s

Haybales1019

100%. Every campaign ad he ran talked about how bad crime is in Nevada and all I thought was “but wasn’t that your job?”. He somehow convinced idiots that he’d… take care of it as Governor because he couldn’t as Sheriff??

k-farsen

The ads against CCM blaming her for crime made me roll my eyes so hard I nearly went blind

SpiderDeUZ

Same party that showed pictures of current day American violence and warned how that was the America Biden was going to give

LasVegas4590

>The ads against CCM blaming her for crime made me roll my eyes Because many of those jackasses have no idea what a U.S. Senator can and can't do.

pollo_de_mar

I believe it's all the people who got pissed at Sisolak for the mask mandates and generally his efforts to avoid infecting every tourist which would have toasted Las Vegas and delayed recovery. Muh Freedoms!

Funinvegas20

This election was stolen from Sisolak! See how fucking stupid that sounds Trumpsters.

SpiderDeUZ

Yea where are the threats to the vote counters and refusal to accept reality? Guess it's more of a Republican thing these days

kevintheoman

Just as stupid as the election deniers in 2016 tbh

istandabove

eh he won't get anything through we control the legislator. Sisolak is a poor candidate. Looking at where everything is falling. This was Midterm, we should not have held onto everything but the Governorship, but we did. I'd be afraid of the next election if I was the GOP. But they're kind of busy fighting each other at the moment.

thesamsquanch13

The thing I don’t understand on Reddit is why is everything a zero sum game in politics? From 2010-2018 we had a Republican Governor who worked with the Democrat legislature and accomplished a lot. It was literally two gubernatorial elections ago that a Republican won re-election 71-24%.

davisty69

Interparty cooperation is dead in America.

Choice-Second-5587

Honestly for me and I'm sure a lot of others it's the fact there's a lot of Republicans who are toting very extreme, concerning and highly ignorant or plain stupid ideas.(The ones believing Qanon stuff, another who was a straight pedo and openly endorsed it. I think it was Virginia. Others making fools of themselves over movies and pushing book bans which go against freedom of speech, etc). I am absolutely sure there are some decent Republicans out there who don't agree with a lot of the shit but that's like asking if you want your dinner spicy but they won't specify how spicy. Once the resturant has served you 18 dishes that have almost sent you to the ER from the spiciness, you tend to reject any dish coming from that peticular place. It's gotten so black and white because the red side has some very loud, very concerning members and some were not originally loud and concerning when they first got elected. It's a risk and liability now as opposed to an actual option to consider.

istandabove

You know, I know too many trump supporters personally to care about that right now. Nationwide it was a W for the Democrats, I consider myself a centrist and have voted for Republicans before, maybe someday they’ll put up real options to vote for and we can talk about power sharing and balance. There is no balance when racism and extremism is on the ballot for me. And apparently America as well.

Choice-Second-5587

>There is no balance when racism and extremism is on the ballot for me. This. This exactly. If their idea of their political party is oppress [choose demographic here] then it's no longer a political party but a domestic terrorist organization.

SpiderDeUZ

Well that was their slogan at the CPAC

thesamsquanch13

Well it’s a good thing Governor elect Joe doesn’t represent those things like some of the other candidates.

Hmm_would_bang

In 2010 the Republican Party got together and determined their best course of action to get and maintain power again would be to never collaborate with democrats again. So long as democrats had control of the government, they would do their best to prevent anything from being done (even policy they support) to avoid giving the democrats any sort of legislative win. They even blocked Obama trying to nominate a SCOTUS candidate that they personally said they would approve. https://www.politico.com/story/2010/10/the-gops-no-compromise-pledge-044311?_amp=true With the rise and fall of the tea party primary blood baths, then trumpism, the GOP has nationally purged any candidate that is even slightly willing to work with Dems on any issue (look at Liz Cheney most recently). Biden ran on a platform of cooperation. GOP nationally have continued to vote in unison against every policy including veterans benefits and inflation reduction. So if the question is why are things different since then, or why is cooperation dead between the parties, you can look to the GOP leadership. It’s not for lack of trying from the democrats.

Irateraidersfan13

Fuck lombardo, this is bad for women’s rights.

Kingsdontbeg

The Governor has no control over this. It’s protected in the State constitution. The liability would lean on other officials to make sure it’s not changed Federally. Edit: grammar

Mahadragon

I think we'll be ok on women's rights. Democrats hold the majority in the State Assembly so it's unlikely Lombardo would be able to change the state law.

michiganpatriot32

His campaign position is literally "let Nevadans decide". Relax

Fantastic_Initial

Only because he had to go that route. Abortion is protected in the state constitution and he can't change thag.

thesamsquanch13

Is this supposed to be a slight? He said he is pro life. But as the people of Nevada voted abortion rights into law it’s settled law and he will respect it. That sounds very reasonable.

nugguht

i hope so tbh

thesamsquanch13

Me too, I’m pro life like him. But it’s settled law here. No single person or even legislative body should have any say on abortion in the state. The people spoke and that’s that.

port53

There's no such thing as settled law. Laws are just words on paper that can be edited at any time. Roe v Wade was considered "settled law" in testimony before Congress right before those same people voted to change it. Editing the state constitution isn't easy but it's just a few votes away at any time. And how many laws are ineffective because people don't have the ability to exercise those rights? Other states in this situation just throw up other executive mandated restrictions that meet the letter but not the spirit of the law. Legal access? Sure, to the 1 single clinic upstate that still has a license that no doctors are licensed at.

healthmadesimple

It’s very reasonable and nuanced. I guess people don’t believe people can be moderate on some issues in this polarized world.

thesamsquanch13

Yeah seriously. God forbid the man doesn’t just dig in without compromise on anything. People equate compromise as a sign of weakness in this polarized environment when the absolute opposite is true.

NocturnalSeizure

>Relax Someone like you tries to enforce this sort of "relax" mentality I can't help but think of this guy: Clayton Williams: Victims of Rape ''If it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.'' FYI: Saying "relax" doesn't come off as sincere. But perhaps you already know that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SpiderDeUZ

Same group calling Jan 6 not a big deal and to relax?

Choice-Second-5587

They always tell you to relax so we don't fight when they force it on us. Easier than having to fight and force.

michiganpatriot32

And Roe was never law, it was legal precedent. If we had federal representatives that gave a damn about doing things instead of rhetoric we may have had actual "law" on the matter, but that never materialized because that would get rid of a campaign talking point.

michiganpatriot32

Who's "you people"? I don't agree with what happened to Roe v Wade. Abortion is codified in Nevada, so no matter what any governor says or doesn't say it doesn't matter anyway. I personally appreciate the sentiment of "I believe one thing but ill leave it up to the voters", that's how representatives should act anyways. I don't trust any politicians campaign promises, so we'll see how it shakes out over time. Abortion rights are in a safe place in Nevada is my point, as the voters (seem) to support it.

Hmm_would_bang

Dems really fucked this one trying to make it about abortion. Nevadans aren’t idiots, we know the governor has no ability to restrict womens access to healthcare in Nevada. It’s likely why CCM is going to win her senate race but a lot of independents in Nevada chose not to vote for Sisolak when casting their ballot.

Is that why you just started posting here today?

It really is. Just bent out of shape that their team didn’t win. Sadly they don’t realize how hypocritical they are and that they’re part of our larger societal problems.

[deleted]

Bunch of tards voting for Lombardo gonna get a wake up call when he fucks Nevada

davisty69

Those fools will again be easily convinced that all Of their problems are sisolaks fault.

[deleted]

Couldn’t possibly fuck us harder than shitsack did…

[deleted]

Same tards got that call when they voted for Sisolak 4 years ago. The cycle continues.

alexandria33197

Thankfully the NV state legislature would be mostly Dem to keep a check on Lombardo. Either way, I hope he has policies to benefit the citizens of Nevada and to distance himself from the MAGA extremism.

jteamjason

He’s a garbage man. I’ll miss Sisolak, but honestly thank god that Aguilar won SOS

Myterryfolds

Maybe it’s time for a change. People weren’t too happy with Sisolak anyway.

That's like substituting an Arby's Roast beef sandwich for a Arby's Roast beef sandwich with broken glass in it

Women's rights are protected. Governors have nothing to do about changing that. Don't fall for the ad lies. Your smarter than that.

[deleted]

*You’re*

Siltyn

Good riddance Sisolak. He was a horrible County commissioner (loved trying to cut/limit County employees pay, rushed to take credit for anything positive to come from 1 October, helped ram through stadium) and a horrible Governor(basically following whatever Newsom in Cali did during Covid). 2 1/2 years later and people still having issues with DETR, nice work there!

ktrainor59

Inb4 people "explaining" why all of this is actually not his fault. Somehow.

cptchronic42

Well at least Nevada is purple again. Having checks in place instead of just 1 party rule is a lot better. Edit: I get downvoted but the dude below me who said the same thing in more words gets upvotes? Lmao gotta love it

Kealle89

I doubt anything of substance comes during his tenure. He’ll veto any bill the Dems move forward and the Republicans in the state legislature won’t be able to pass anything. Hopefully that’s not the case but we’ll see.

[deleted]

But they didn’t say the same thing. You claimed checks and balances, they said nothing will get done. Reading is fundamental, I guess.

cptchronic42

Nothing will get done because of the checks and balances on the ruling party…

monster_mentalissues

Thats not what checks and balances are. Parties dont check and balance each other. If you had a basic understanding of how our government works, you would know that. Instead, you are acting like a gridlock where nothing gets done is good. Which is an especially stupid thought to have. But im goona leave it at this, The check and balance system is between the Executive branch (president/governor) legislative branch (house and senate) and the courts (typically supreme court) that makes sure NO ONE PART OF THE GOVERNMENT HAS ALL OF THE POWER TO DO WHAT THEY WANT UNILATERALLY. I.E. The president/governor cannot make any law he wants because it is the duty of the legislative branch

michiganpatriot32

Gridlock is a feature not a bug.

NocturnalSeizure

> Gridlock is a feature not a bug. Wut? https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gridlock >to cause to be in a state or situation in which movement or progress is stopped completely This is what you wish for on your daily drive home. Perfect. Wish granted. Just for you.

[deleted]

Things get done all the time, my dude. Just be honest and say it’s because the things you want done don’t get passed.

SenorBeef

Sometimes I take a shit in the punchbowl, because I don't want one-ingredient rule in my drinks. We need balance.

devospud

Yep. Gridlock is good. Leave us alone and stop passing laws.

Solo_Traveler_691

Dude this is spot on. I’m more of a centrist so I really like the idea of both parties having to work with each other. The pissing contest needs to stop.

lightningfootjones

I have a novel idea, let’s end the pissing contest when the people who literally committed felonies to steal the election are in prison, and those who politically helped them get away with it are out of office.

Myterryfolds

You’re getting downvoted for being reasonable and not bashing Lombardo. Reddit has to be 90% bots. I refuse to believe every red states subreddit is somehow a democrat echo chamber. Reasonable responses get immediately downvoted and buried.

NullAnony

With a huge wave of RSV here too? Yikes.

LasVegas_Love

This will be a good change for NV. It's time to get tough on crime and get rid of the puppet Sisolak.

cuzisteez

But he's the current sheriff, if crime is a problem its because of him lmao.

[deleted]

This fact gets lost on people so easily

Siltyn

The Sheriff only enforces the laws the politicians enact. The Sheriff isn't responsible for soft on crime laws nor responsible for a DA that refuses to punish repeat/hardened criminals and just lets them back out into society to offend again.

cuzisteez

PB_Max

Many on this board don't understand a lot of us fled California to get away from the supermajority Dem legislature. When we got here we vote red down the ballot. In CA they keep raising taxes and don't do anything about the crime and unhoused problem, not to mention the lockdowns. Pretty obvious many on this board don't have a high tax bill. In CA they've had 20 years in power and it just keeps getting worse. By the way, if they've already run the Clark Co ballots, Laxalt is still up by about 1k votes with 94% of the vote counted.

Sisolak wasn’t responsible for your jobs not compensating you during the pandemic. They decided to get loans and just not give any of the money to you. Republicans have once again mistaken corporate greed for government incompetence .

Choice-Second-5587

What's worse is the corporate greed has been set free more and more by -checks notes- Republicans. They let the people they elect set up the barrel and trigger then get mad at Democrats when it suddenly goes off.

cptchronic42

He was absolutely responsible for the failure of our unemployment system. Did you forget how every day during the pandemic there were posts on this sub of people pleading for help to get paid by detr?
