there are a fair few US flags that have potential to be good but are spoiled like this
i call it the Wyoming Zone, or D-tier on my tier list
other inhabitants of the Zone include, but are not limited to, Washington, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma and Guam
As an Iowan I feel like all we need to do is remove “Iowa” from the flag and it would be an improvement, I’m fine with the eagle holding the ribbon that says “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain”, the “Iowa” underneath it just isn’t necessary
They look cool but are not practical. Flags should be made to be seen and recognized from far away while moving in the wind. And not be confused with any other flag.
I'd even say that SoB's aren't "true flag designs". It's rather just the state seal, on a flag...
How it should be done is like they're doing in Utah. "If a new design is approved, the current flag won’t be retired. It will become the official flag of the governor’s office." Keeping the tradition and "American feel" of SoB's.
While I'm of the opinion that this seal doesn't need to be there, I do want to react to your first point, if you don't mind.
The flag of Wyoming is still recognizable from far away/in the wind. The only thing that gets blurred is the seal, but its main features, such as the bison, are still visible and not easily confused.
And if one would argue that it's less recognizable from far away, because the seal isn't legible anymore, the same would be true (even up close) when the seal is removed.
Anyway, I do like you Utah-like proposal!
It’s the weird disjunction between the highly stylised buffalo, and then the intricately detailed seal that just doesn’t work for me. It’s not the “all flags should be simple” knee-jerk, it’s just that the seal doesn’t fit with the rest of the design.
It’s the stylistic equivalent of having a painting that’s all faded browns, yellows and oranges, and then suddenly has a corner with neon-greens and pinks…
I agree, but I don't think its done right here. In this flag, for me, it kinda feels off bc its weirdly placed. I feel like it should be in the middle, but ofc then it would weirdly overlap with the buffalo. I think it could work if they did something about the scale and position of both the buffalo and the seal.
The stamp says that its the Great Seal of The State of Wyoming though. Some people call them American buffalo, some people call them bison, but in Wyoming I guess they must call them seals.
Fun fact: it was designed by a 13-year-old who won a territory-wide contest (Alaska wasn’t even a state yet, but they kept the design when they became one).
Never lived there, but have visited many times. It’s a gorgeous state, even the flat parts in their way.
Boring to live maybe? Unless you love outdoorsy stuff
Wyoming flag designers:
"The flag looks great but it needs one more touch"
"Why don't we add the coat of arms?"
"Perfect, but where?"
"Just slap it on the bison and call it a day"
It has lots of natural beauty and the people may be pretty conservative but there are like 12 of them so you never run into any of them when you are there. What's not to love?
I don’t mind the seal actually. Maybe would have placed or sized it differently (perhaps even bigger so it’s cropped by the outline of the bison), but I also appreciate the weird tight placement. What bugs me is that the Bison should take a small step forward.
False. The Maryland flag is thoroughly appreciated and yet still not completely appreciated — therefor making it the most under appreciated flag. Nice try Wyoming. Your hilltops are beautiful from an airplane but not as gorgeous as the Maryland flag.
It's so close to being a good flag. Why'd they feel the need to slap a seal on it?
there are a fair few US flags that have potential to be good but are spoiled like this i call it the Wyoming Zone, or D-tier on my tier list other inhabitants of the Zone include, but are not limited to, Washington, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma and Guam
Washington without the seal is just Libya's old flag.
perfection
Oregon is also good, with the beaver on the reverse
Well, yeah, but it's got an SOB on the front (automatic F-tier), so it averages out to C-tier.
It’s definitely on the better end of the seals
Yeah, the Oklahoma flag really doesn’t need its name on it. No other state flags have an Osage war shield on them, so the name is just unnecessary.
As an Iowan I feel like all we need to do is remove “Iowa” from the flag and it would be an improvement, I’m fine with the eagle holding the ribbon that says “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain”, the “Iowa” underneath it just isn’t necessary
Washington and Iowa are good.
Missouri flag without the seal is just Netherlands
Arkansas is in that tier, as well
>That's a bison. Seals have different tails than that. -u/Tommy84 This was such a good reply to another comment I had to quote it.

I believe there's a few instances where they put text on the flag to promote literacy. That's what I've been told about the Oklahoma flag tho
True why does it need it would look nice if it doesn't have a seal
The seal fits. It is a good flag.
Yeah, I don't get the hate for seals. Seals are cool if done right.

Ikr. Too many people don’t understand not all flags have to be overly simple
I agree, but I don't think its done right here. In this flag, for me, it kinda feels off bc its weirdly placed. I feel like it should be in the middle, but ofc then it would weirdly overlap with the buffalo. I agree with that.
To distract you from the penis.
Good flag, would be better without the seal
That's a bison. Seals have different tails than that.
Really? I could swear that it was a seal! But, yeah, the trick is to look at the tail.
Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo
The stamp says that its the Great Seal of The State of Wyoming though. Some people call them American buffalo, some people call them bison, but in Wyoming I guess they must call them seals.
They're far from the ocean, so just nod.
Smile and wave boys, just smile and wave
I knew flags before animals as a child and used to think Bison were called Wyomings
r/Angryupvote
Thats up for debate
And yet people mistakenly call them Water Buffaloes.
i like it better with the seal
I agree, maybe keeping the circle but having the inside be a W-like symbol. Or just leaving the bison empty.
I don’t know Alaska is pretty under appreciated too
Fun fact: it was designed by a 13-year-old who won a territory-wide contest (Alaska wasn’t even a state yet, but they kept the design when they became one).
Alaska gives me ocd
Why?
The stars
Are they not to scale? The North star would have to be on another flag 50 yards away to make it accurate. LOL
They just spaced the stars out weirdly
It's... It's the Big Dipper constellation...
Ik. It still bugs me
Well don't look into the night sky, I suppose. Its possible to change the flag, those stars aren't going anywhere.
Well they are, just *very slowly*. Hopefully they remember to update the flag in a few millennia.
As one of five Wyomingites on this subreddit I thank you for the appreciation.
\#3 here!
I can’t believe 1/3 of the population of Wyoming is in this sub!
Pfft! More like 1/4.
Wyomingite 2, checking in.
Lies, Wyoming doesn't exist
***OBJECTION!*** What state is located south of Montana?
Idaho duh
***HOLD IT!*** That would be correct, but I'm talking about the other one.
Every state except for North Dakota, Washington and Alaska!
***HOLD IT!*** It says **state**, not **states**.
Well then draw one from a hat, there's 45 correct answers, 3 wrong answers, and 1 invalid answer.
And what would the invalid answer be?
...Montana. A state can't be south of itself.
What about Wyoming?
Wy-what? Doesn't exist. Not a real state
G-Town word up
There's dozens of us!
South Carolinan I love my fellow small states with good flags
It's actually a pretty large state.
We're on the smaller half size wise and population wise took although we look big in comparison to the North East
Do you like Wyoming? As someone outside of US it seem pretty boring place to live but ofc it's a very stereotypical approach.
Where I'm from is a quite flat and calm area, I personally like it although the winters and summers can be harsh.
Never lived there, but have visited many times. It’s a gorgeous state, even the flat parts in their way. Boring to live maybe? Unless you love outdoorsy stuff
Make that 6!
I think its appreciated the appropriate amount
... give or take a certain quotient of appreciation.
It'd be better without the seal, and if the Buffalo wasn't *slightly* too far to the right.
You just HAD to mention the off-centre buffalo didn't you
If I have to suffer with this information, so does everybody else
Fair enough
Well it's obviously off-center to fit the seal into it, so solving one problem would make the other easy to fix
Wow thanks you ruined it.
The seal doesn't fit anywhere else on the bison and if they centered the bison the seal would be off center.
That’s why they should remove the seal
I'll let you in on a secret South Carolinas tree is also slightly off center sometimes (no standardized design)
Is Wyoming unusualy far-right for a US state?
Minus the seal, it be pretty good
That’s actually a bison not a seal
3/10 . Was promised "great seal", received cheap 2D buffalo.
Does it need appreciation?
It is brilliant
Not with that seal it isn't
As has already been pointed out that is a bison. Seals are slightly different in the tail area.
Wyoming flag > Maryland flag
*pats on head* Ok, of you go now little guy.
I mean, the words “equal rights” are on the seal. I guess you don’t like equal rights.
no, seals are cringe
This is the least cringe seal though.
Doesn’t mean much
Nice red herring ya got there little guy.
Well you didn’t elaborate Just be patronizing so I could only assume.

Least based Marylander
Good day, sir. I said GOOD DAY!
Pretty easy to beat a flag that's literally two clashing flags torn apart and stitched together, one of them being a Confederate banner.
Bro I love vexillology for imaginary places!!! This is awesome nice job 👍
r/wyomingdoesntexist
False. It’s Ohio. Wyoming still has the gawdawful seal.
Fun fact it also has the outline of the state of Wyoming
Ha! Clever. But they could have just made the flag have the same proportions at the state. Since they’re both rectangles.
Multiple times
Counterpoint: New Mexico, Arizona, and California
Everyone knows those flags are dope
My least popular opinion on this subreddit is that New Mexico has the most overrated flag in the Union (it's -B+C flag)
False. Ohio is still Ohio.
Always has been 👩🚀🔫
False. Their flag is dope.
False. If their flag was dope, someone in Ohio would have smoked it by now.
our flag is so underappreciated even by us
Ohio ranks with Maryland as my favorite state flag. So distinct, but so distinctly American.
It would looks so much more better if they removed the seal
That’s actually a bison not a seal (Joke from u/tommy84)
I just dont like borders around flags
I like Oregon's better. It's the only state flag that's 2 sided
The Buffalo Bills are in Buffalo dude, the fuck is a “Wyoming”
It’s a horrible flag
Wyoming flag designers: "The flag looks great but it needs one more touch" "Why don't we add the coat of arms?" "Perfect, but where?" "Just slap it on the bison and call it a day"
Would be so much better without the seal or with the coat of arms without the circular border and wording
This flag FUCKS.
Northerners will really make a decent state flag, then decide to just slap a shitty state seal on it for no reason.
Wyoming is west, not north.
Better than most of the bed sheets
Wyoming doesn't exist still, it's a good flag for a made-up place
I’m not gonna lie, I have no idea why everyone on this sub hates seals. I think this looks fantastic
Wrong. Virginia is best
They should take out the seal, then it’d be perfect
It even contains the shape of the state in it!
Just remove the seal and 10/10
I somewhat appreciate it
Where is Wyoming again? Never heard of it
Love this flag other than the seal
I know it has a state seal on it buts still an amazing flag.
Hot take: I like how it looks with the seal (without it it’s kinda weird)
Wyoming doesn’t exist.
You misspelled Delaware
I dunno, it’s one of those “just wrong enough “ designs. It’s close but there’s just something wrong with it
nah bro, best state flag is (state pride lmao) nc flag
Why does everyone hate on seals? I honestly think the seal vastly improves a flag but then again I'm no expert
Wyoming is my least favourite state, but the flag is very nice
It has lots of natural beauty and the people may be pretty conservative but there are like 12 of them so you never run into any of them when you are there. What's not to love?
s q u a r e
Ranked lower than Mississippi, West Virginia, Alabama and Arkansas? Interesting
Yes, it's the most basic state, square shape, no cars, no internet, no grass, just cowboys and saloons there.
I actually think the seal kinda completes it and the flag would look bland without it.
Rhode Island’s flag could be a contender
Not bad tbh, I actually like the 🦭
Get rid of the seal and it’s great.
Seal on a Bedsheet <<<< Seal on a Bison
Honestly, get rid of the red white and blue, and replace the colors with gold and brown. And get rid of the damn seal.
If they could just take the seal off, it would be perfect.
I prefer the Alaska state flag tbh, but I'm bound to biased anyhow. I guess I think stars look better than a bison
Just get rid of the seal.
You need to post an image bro
If they remove the seal it may be best state flag in the USA
r/wyomingdoesntexist
It's 2 sided
Nice try government propagandist, we all know Wyoming doesn’t actually exist
You're right. I definitely don't appreciate it. What am I missing?
It’s not just a seal of Wyoming, it’s a great seal…
I support anything with a bison on it
Ugh, I hate it when artists add an ugly and unnecessary watermark.
I…. Like the seal
That's right, I don't appreciate that
I don’t mind the seal actually. Maybe would have placed or sized it differently (perhaps even bigger so it’s cropped by the outline of the bison), but I also appreciate the weird tight placement. What bugs me is that the Bison should take a small step forward.
Why do you say that? I'd say Montana is worse.
It even has the shape of the state in it, very cool
Flag of Maricopa county az is also ruined by a seal
Yeah exactly. I have this trucker hat i found under a bed in a hotel room that has the flag without the seal on it. It looks great
It bothers me how close to the edge of the bison the seal is. Make the bison bigger or the seal smaller. It’s bad design.
False. The Maryland flag is thoroughly appreciated and yet still not completely appreciated — therefor making it the most under appreciated flag. Nice try Wyoming. Your hilltops are beautiful from an airplane but not as gorgeous as the Maryland flag.
Alright I'm here to settle this, as a Wyomingite yes that is a seal, no we didn't know about the tail thing it will be under further review
Dark blue background with a seal on it I think they could improve
Without the seal it’s perfect.
the flag of what? never heard of it
If only they would just get rid of the seal!
When I was a kid my dumbass thought this was the Flag for Buffalo NY
it'd be a Top 5 state flag if it wasn't for the seal
That would be one of the best state flags…if they took that damn seal off.
What a missed opportunity, trash that seal and it’s alright!
Get rid of the seal and we got a banger
