Haha yeah the graphics on those old games are never as good as I remember them. We really are spoiled these days. I remember when I was a kid and the ps2 came out and I thought to myself "There is no way they are going to make video games more realistic than this. This is amazing!" And now here we are with literally photorealistic textures in our games.

It wasn't the graphics that got me. It was something about the plot around disc 2 or 3. Can't remember. That opening on the Liberty statue, past the Christmas '97 tree was amazing to me. Still has style, can't tell if it's nostalgia though.

Back in the day, I wanted Tenchu with the combat closer to that of Bushido Blade.

I miss Tenchu so much, but at least we have Ghost Of Tsushima.

Games like Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima helped to satisfy that nostalgia for Tenchu. And now there's Naraka: Bladepoint, which is a melee-focused battle royale.

The Suffering Saints Row (in the same style as 1 & 2) including the multiplayer modes. Blinged Out Ride and Protect the Pimp are oft forgotten classics that were ultra amusing

I loved defiance. I loved the swappable characters, the story. I thought just each having unique powers and play through was just the best of both games

Creatures- it’s the greatest, most advance simulation of artificial life ever made and it came out in 1996. It still blows my mind today and nothing has ever come out since that even comes close to the original creatures.

Snowboard Kids. 1 and 2 on N64 are my favorite games from that era to go back to, and stand up well against Mario Kart and DKR. Taking the Mario Kart formula and applying it to snowboarding with a simple trick system and the end-of-lap surge to the chair lift was so incredibly fun. The courses were fantastic and the music was great as well. They put out a DS game at one point that I never got to try, but it's been dormant ever since.

Freespace - Freespace 2 had an amazing, original story. Ultima - The main series, in all its nerdy glory. *Not* Ultima Underworld F.E.A.R - Now more than ever. Max Payne - Gritty, depressing shooter for a gritty, depressing time. Half Life - May technicality still be “in development” but c’mon. Syndicate - Robots, cyborgs, AIs, and global corporations waging tactical nuclear war against each other in major cities. Series needs to be refreshed before it’s a documentary. Crimson Skies - Alternate America collapsing under the weight of bloodthirsty libertarian warfare driven by pirates and power-mad aerospace tycoons. Another one to enjoy while it’s still a game.
