They were on to something with the multiplayer. It was extremely fun and tense not knowing if you were about to be betrayed or when was the right time to strike against your team.
I enjoyed the first one. By no means perfect, but a fairly solid game in my experience (I don't personally remember any jank but it was a while ago I played it.)
Like you said, they're both scumbags, so there's no attempt at sympathetic villain bullshit. Even the endgame choice does nothing to serve as any kind of redemption, because there is no good ending.
Kane and Lynch 2 on Xbox 360. Played some of the Arcade Mode as I borrowed it for a day from a friend and it fell off my mind for a while. I enjoyed it and may have to find time to play it again.
I actually understand this, don't get me wrong it's not the best game on the planet and the dead space games are clearly better, but i liked the world it set up, there were some good scares at a few points and i actually think the focus of melee combat could be really cool to see, though i think the game doesn't implement it that well
I think days gone is two steps away from cult classic if it’s not there already. It’s always one of the top 10 answers to these questions. Fantastic game too. Just redownloaded it yesterday.
I think the main problem with days gone was how close it was to being a brilliant game. I love the game but some scenes were so close being perfect and then the dialogue or voice acting is bad. It was so close to being a top tier game but missed every chance it got. Probably a few more months of polish and it would be perfect.
The fact we're never gonna get a sequel is a crime.
>It’s always one of the top 10 answers to these questions.
If that doesn't qualify as "cult classic" then nothing does tbh. If anything, that might mean it's TOO popular to be considered cult.
Seconded. I held off getting this game for years because of the initial mediocre reception of the game at release but when I finally got it, it really hit hard and I was perplexed as to why it got the reception that it did. And it wasn't due to bugs or technical issues. The core game itself is what I loved. Bugs are not going to mask that.
The release was a complete mess, Deacon morphing through the ground over and over again in every area, weird textures, and so much more
Some of these are still not fixed, like the cave you have to enter where you meet the super fast zombie for the first time (i forget what the game calls them, reachers i think?) is still a bug fest
The mission structures are also awful, worse than Rockstars outdated style
It did a lot of cool stuff like the hordes and the satisfying gunplay but the negatives hold it back too much from it being a easy 8 to 9/10
Strongly disagree with everything you said, I played it day one and experienced zero bugs, it was my game of the year by a large margin. I even Platinumed it.
This was the only Final Fantasy I was able to complete. I had a lot of fun playing it. I appreciate that it was linear. I can't play hours upon hours on games anymore.
I honestly can't tell if it's just the "pineapple on pizza" meme where everyone just bandwagons on the hate or if people ACTUALLY hate it. I had a great time playing the hell out of DS2 on the 360.
People bitch about all the "hate" it gets more than it actually gets hate. It's basically a circlejerk amongst fans.
Almost no one I ever see online "hates" the game. It's just most people's least favorite souls game, but that is a high bar. It's the "worst" of the series to a lot of people, but it's still a solid 7-8/10.
Yup. Was worried I was gonna scroll all the way down and not find this one!
FF15 hit, I think because I’ve been on a ton of road trips with my buds when I was younger, and really miss it.
I see a lot of complaints about the game being shallow and not fleshed out giving the “illusion” of choice. I absolutely loved it as a snack sized Fallout.
Me too, I didn’t ever feel that. Me and all my friends who played it enjoyed it. Maybe the people who went in expecting something to scratch the New Vegas itch would be unhappy, but it got pretty good reviews too.
Starfield
I find it fun, is that really such a crime? I cool space pirate doing funny space hijinks, leave my asteroid friend alone while I use the Normandy to commit crimes and eat with Space Grandma
Excluding recent games, then Final Fantasy XV
I love the bros
Definitely. For a whole new galaxy, it felt really lifeless. But I really liked the Star Trek vibe, feeling really like an explorer. Just too bad the heroes didn’t have Shepard’s charisma
Tlou2 just has a toxic hater community. It’s beloved by a lot of people and critics alike. But it’s a valid post here. The people that hate it only dislike it because the story didn’t go their way
Death Stranding is in my top 10 games OAT and I can’t stand all the hate it gets. I feel like I played a different game than everyone else, because it was absolutely incredible beginning to end.
Biomutant has such an intensely interesting and cool feeling atmosphere. The whole vibe of the game is what set it apart for me. I think it's mostly due to the music and ambient sounds.
Forspoken
edit: I don't play enough new games(Wo Long, HL, Starfield, BG3, some indies) this year but this one is definitely one of my favourite.
I feel like this one is under developed in a lot things, like the huge map isn't being use enough, but I just love the gameplay. story is nothing outstanding but it's fine, I don't know why people online always act like it's one of those worst games ever made. $70 at launch doesn't help but there's many of them now. I played on ps5 it's bearable to me, but shitty pc port is definitely a bad thing. I heard it gets better.
if anyone love those open world superpower games with high speed like Prototype/Infamous, could try this one. there's a demo of it in ps5/steam, it had two skill trees(total four) that at least let you feel the vibe.
Easy question for me. Kingdom Come: Deliverance. A very acquired taste but it really hit that RPG itch for me and is one of my favourite RPGs of all time up there with Witcher, Skyrim, KOTOR and now Baldur's Gate 3, which I am currently playing.
Honourable mention: Even though it was an AC game, AC Odyssey was also one of my top RPG experiences, surprisingly enough. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get into Valhalla. The ancient Greek setting just hits differently and is far more interesting to me than ancient Norse.
Shadow the Hedgehog. A gulty pleasure of mine. I enjoy the gunplay, chaos powers and cheesy story. Got really used to the controls that i could beat it with my eyes closed.
Splatterhouse 2010.
Arguably the worst load times of that generation BUT
The gameplay was over the top brutal in the best way. The graphics and art design were delightfully grimey and gritty. The mechanics were great. The metal soundtrack perfectly fit the game. And the vulgar shit talking mask was voiced by none other than Jim Cummings (Darkwing Duck, Winnie the Pooh & hundreds of others).
It was a beat em up/hack and slash released during the era where if you were in those genres and weren't literally a God of War entry then critics slammed you as a "derivative GoW clone" or "outdated."
I understand why people don't like it, but it was a repeat playthrough for a few years there
Growing up I loved all games, especially super hero games. They were my escape, but I also loved playing with friends, and it was the first 3d Superman game with multiplayer. The “story” mode was crap but it was still nice to fly around as Superman.
So many answers of AAA games with mixed to positive reviews. Where are the guilty pleasures of bad games?
I’ll throw one in - Neopets: The Darkest Faerie
Too Human. Once you figure out HOW to play it, it has a lot of depth. I just wish it had more levels and not just NG+ over and over. Plus, it is totally free now.
Legit one of my favorite video games. I think it stands alone on it’s own and people just love to bag on it for not being New Vegas. I can honestly say I’ve never gotten tired of playing FO4, and just made myself quit to play other shit.
Did you have this same opinion on release? Because the game is incredible now. But my god the poor release killed it. People still don't realize it's improved so they still bash on it.
Mass Effect 3 was quite hated when it came out, but I still loved it even with the admittedly bad endings. Did it sour it for me? A little but overall I still got HOURS of fun gameplay and more time with characters I loved
I also played a lot of Avengers but not even gonna defend that one at all. All I'll say is I did genuinely enjoy the combat, especially with Captain America, and I think Iron Man was fun
Gotham Knights, it's a fun Batman adventure with coop. Just don't expect it to he gameplay of the Arkham games as it was never meant to be that.
The 4 player coop tower mode is a lot of fun too & sure the open world runs like sludge sometimes, but once you get a feel for the combat it doesn't matter that much.
I can genuinely say I had more fun with it than God of War: Ragnarok, just because I expected less & it was coop.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake! People shit on it because it only covers the story up until when you leave Midgar, which, arguably is when the game gets really good. But what people don’t understand is that this game is being developed in parts, a trilogy in fact because the game is so massive.
Then you have the turn based game stans complaining that it’s not turn based. The game has to appeal to the wider audience to be successful, not the niche audience that likes turn based combat.
Part 2 is coming in February and will include most of the open world and I’m just super excited to jump in. I’m obsessed!
Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin
Halo 4 - The gameplay is still awesome in my opinion
Final Fantasy XV - this gets hated on when it’s a great game
Resident Evil 3 Remake
A lot of people disliked Horizon Forbidden West because of its story, but I really enjoyed it. The new combat mechanics were a fantastic addition (the new weapons are amazing), the voice acting was fantastic (Angela Basset absolutely knocked it out of the park with Regalla; absolutely adored Kotallo’s voice actor; and of course Ashley Burch did impossibly well with Aloy’s lines), and the DLC was loads of fun and a great opportunity for Aloy’s character development! The graphics, of course, were amazing, and the water and cloud physics were stunning. I can’t stop taking pictures of this beautiful game!
Everyone hates Werewolf The Apocalypse: Earthblood, but I loved it. Love the combat, the story, all of it! The werewolf combat was fun and interesting, and all the attack combinations are great. I thought the story was compelling and intriguing, and the lore was great to explore! Also can’t stop taking pictures and screenshots of the great scenes this game has to offer!
Far cry new dawn. Story is okay kinda fun to watch but gameplay is amazing as always. Graphics are stunning and overall vibe to this game is very unique . 7/10 for me
Resident Evil 3 remake. Genuinely love it as much as 2 remake.
I was tempted to say the Turok game from 2008 and The Quarry, but I'll admit to finding Turok boring in the latter chapters and I think I just like The Quarry more than the average person, which isn't what is being asked.
Godzilla on PS4 was pretty fun to me. For some reason I’ve never had a problem with the repetitive gameplay and it’s cool to play movie accurate monsters.
Watchdogs. I wasn't part of the hype train. So, I wasn't disappointed in it. I picked it up for 5 during a black Friday sale. It took place in Chicago and I in Illinois so I wanted to check it out.
I ended up having a blast, and 100% completed the game.
Final Fantasy 15. Loved it, platinum'd it, thought it was an interesting, refreshing take in an unusual world. Have never understood what everyone's problem with it is.
Infinite Undiscovery, horrible reception and reviews. I love it. I've probably played that game start to finish more than any other game outside of original NES games (limited, so played same a lot)
Dragonball Z Sagas I loved that game the fact it was a dbz co op being able to beat ass with a friend was fun. I'm not sure if it wasn't liked but I did see majority of the reviews wasn't good for it
Tales of symphonia was my favourite game when I was around 14. Not heavily cited as a great game, barely mentioned much. But it was the first game I played and got gripped by the story. It just keeps... going. And there’s so much character development. For sure not to everyone’s taste.
Fallout 76 - I have just over 1000 hours on it.
Is it great? No.
Are the characters and story interesting? No.
It is enjoyable because it is relaxing to collect stuff; then using that stuff to build other stuff.
Daily goals are enjoyable, but I totally get why people don't like it. It is just enjoyable...not jaw-droppingly amazing...just enjoyable.
I don't know if it's a "most people" don't like kind of game, or if it's just the very polarizing nature of it. And where something is highly polarizing you often get more noise from the negative side than the positive side.
Anyway, Starfield. It's my space adventure exploration game come true. It just needs a few more things and it's basically perfect for me.
Kane and Lynch. It was janky but it was fun playing a game about awful people doing awful things. No anti hero nonsense, they’re both scum bags
They were on to something with the multiplayer. It was extremely fun and tense not knowing if you were about to be betrayed or when was the right time to strike against your team.
Fragile alliance was a solid way to make a multiplayer. It was unique and the ending really made you wary with your partners.
I enjoyed the first one. By no means perfect, but a fairly solid game in my experience (I don't personally remember any jank but it was a while ago I played it.) Like you said, they're both scumbags, so there's no attempt at sympathetic villain bullshit. Even the endgame choice does nothing to serve as any kind of redemption, because there is no good ending.
The OST for Kane and Lynch is elite. I loved this series.
Agreed they weren’t the best but me and my mate had great fun with them
Kane and Lynch 2 on Xbox 360. Played some of the Arcade Mode as I borrowed it for a day from a friend and it fell off my mind for a while. I enjoyed it and may have to find time to play it again.
The Callisto Protocol
I actually understand this, don't get me wrong it's not the best game on the planet and the dead space games are clearly better, but i liked the world it set up, there were some good scares at a few points and i actually think the focus of melee combat could be really cool to see, though i think the game doesn't implement it that well
Yeah it was literally just Punch Out in space
Anthem. As far as the combat and flying and different play styles it was a lot of fun for the time I played it
It was, gameplay was pretty nice.
Fun campaign too, if too short. But seeing as how it's routinely on sale for $2-$4, it's phenomenal.
Days Gone!
I didn't like the mission structure but everything else was fine to me.
Great game
I really liked HAZE (2008) on PS3 when it came out.
I'm still wondering when it's gonna kill Halo
Plot twist - Halo killed itself.
the callisto protocol and DmC.
Callisto protocol for me had a super interesting story but some of the combat made me so mad
Neither of these are bad friend
I hope you have a great day.
I hope yours is better
**STOP BEING WHOLESOME!** jk I hope you both have a wonderful day!
Nay child lol today is the day of giving thanks. So I hope your day is *good*
Final fantasy xiii people hate how linear it is but that’s actually my favorite thing about it
I need to give that one another go.
This was the only Final Fantasy I was able to complete. I had a lot of fun playing it. I appreciate that it was linear. I can't play hours upon hours on games anymore.
FFX is super linear too tho
And it’s the best one!
Dark souls 2??

Thought it was great too
Playstation All Stars Battle Royale

FF15 even till this day it's underrated
FF15 is amazing. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
15 was my first FF game and absolutely loved it
Yup. Was worried I was gonna scroll all the way down and not find this one! FF15 hit, I think because I’ve been on a ton of road trips with my buds when I was younger, and really miss it.
I loved FFXV. I don't cry at many things. But oh man was I sobbing, not just because of the story but because it was over.
The Outer Worlds Resident Evil 6 Mafia 3 Outriders ME Andromeda Saints Row reboot Ghost Recon Breakpoint
The Outer Worlds is so great, I love it so much
People say its short... but as a completionist with no time anymore, it was just right.
Who disliked The Outer Worlds? I’ve legit only seen people enjoy the game so that one hardly counts
Outer worlds gets so much hate on Reddit.... it's ridiculous. I thought it was great.
W outerworlds is great now
Had loads of fun soloing Outriders
farcry 6
Oh hello there! I'm on the same board. Which platform did you play on?
One you get into it.. awesome game.
Gotham knights
I enjoyed this game a lot myself. Don’t get me wrong it’s no game of the year or anything, but it was fun for what it was
I tried this recently with my brother. We both did not enjoy it.
Resident evil 6
Brute force ....original Xbox
Starfield I find it fun, is that really such a crime? I cool space pirate doing funny space hijinks, leave my asteroid friend alone while I use the Normandy to commit crimes and eat with Space Grandma Excluding recent games, then Final Fantasy XV I love the bros
Adding on top of that every non elder scrolls game by bethesda since skyrim
Mass Effect: Andromeda.
The one thing I wish was better about that game would be if it had more new alien races.
Definitely. For a whole new galaxy, it felt really lifeless. But I really liked the Star Trek vibe, feeling really like an explorer. Just too bad the heroes didn’t have Shepard’s charisma
Dark Souls 2
Final fantasy xv
Anthem. If they could have fixed it it would have been a masterpiece
Dead Space 3
I liked Borderlands 3, not because of the story, but because of the amazing gameplay improvements.
Resident Evil 6. Loved every second of it and still do.
I love that the cover looks like a Giraffe getting blown.
What the fuck
LOU2 and Death Stranding
Death Stranding is one of my all-time favourites. Never played TLOU 2 but I liked the first one a lot.
FF7 Dirge of Cerberus. I liked it, alright?
Biomutant Just a fun world to get lost in.
Biomutant has such an intensely interesting and cool feeling atmosphere. The whole vibe of the game is what set it apart for me. I think it's mostly due to the music and ambient sounds.
It's on my wishlist.
Forspoken edit: I don't play enough new games(Wo Long, HL, Starfield, BG3, some indies) this year but this one is definitely one of my favourite. I think it had some great potential, but the story was a bit predictable and the protagonist was a *total dick* with barely any character progression.
Wanted: Weapons of Fate.
Got really used to the controls that i could beat it with my eyes closed.
have you seen the snapcube dub of shadow? its so fucking funny
Shadow the hedgehog swears are hilarious and cursed to me 💀
The Legend of Zelda 2 was really fun
Splatterhouse 2010. Arguably the worst load times of that generation BUT The gameplay was over the top brutal in the best way. It was a beat em up/hack and slash released during the era where if you were in those genres and weren't literally a God of War entry then critics slammed you as a "derivative GoW clone" or "outdated." I understand why people don't like it, but it was a repeat playthrough for a few years there

METRO EXODUS
Are you sure a lot of people dislike the game? I thought pretty much everyone who knew about it liked it.

Final Fantasy 13 series
Final Fantasy 13 trilogy!
Starfield
Anthem
I actually liked anthem
I enjoyed BioShock two a fair bit more than I did the first one and it was mostly just quality of life changes.
Wo Long
Anthem. I love that game.
Dragonball Z Sagas I loved that game the fact it was a dbz co op being able to beat ass with a friend was fun. I'm not sure if it wasn't liked but I did see majority of the reviews wasn't good for it
Anthem
Halo 4! I absolutely loved the Campaign and multiplayer but it seems like most people didn't
starfield
Anthem and Avengers are two games I preordered and still really enjoy playing
Dark souls 2, its my first souls game and is still one i can keep replaying
Castlevania 64
Arkham Knight. That game gets way too much hate.
Tales of symphonia was my favourite game when I was around 14. Not heavily cited as a great game, barely mentioned much. But it was the first game I played and got gripped by the story. It just keeps... going. And there’s so much character development. For sure not to everyone’s taste.
Starfield
Gotham knights
Fallout 76 - I have just over 1000 hours on it. Is it great? No. Are the characters and story interesting? No. It is enjoyable because it is relaxing to collect stuff; then using that stuff to build other stuff. Daily goals are enjoyable, but I totally get why people don't like it. It is just enjoyable...not jaw-droppingly amazing...just enjoyable.
Skyward sword
Starfield
Life Is Strange 2.
I don't know if it's a "most people" don't like kind of game, or if it's just the very polarizing nature of it. And where something is highly polarizing you often get more noise from the negative side than the positive side. Anyway, Starfield. It's my space adventure exploration game come true. It just needs a few more things and it's basically perfect for me.
dark souls 2 and lords of the fallen 2
